This is our go to place for potluck outsourcing whenever we are in Long Island area. =) We enjoyed their grilled Liempo (pork belly), sisig bangus, kare kare and a lot more of Filipino dishes. They have stayed as authentic as possible to the motherland's original recipe. The country has 7,000 plus islands and that means each dishes will have its regional version back home which make it good for more variety of choices. The adobo from north will be different from central, the south, the east and the west. Service was very prompt and we usually call ahead of time and so far they have never missed any of it. It gets a bit busy in here specially on holidays for so many place their order or stop by and get their Filipino food cravings. The ambiance is not an upscale which is okay for us, it was never meant to be anyways. This is not the Michelin stamped Filipino resto, but for me this place passed my standard. So disappointed. We did dine in and the food just was eh. We have been to their other locations and enjoyed the food, so disappointed that this spot is different. There is a point and pick section and dine in seating. The sizzling Sisig was so disappointing. It was mostly peppers and onions, and random little bits of ginger. So every bit had a potential to have ginger in it since it was so small and blended in. And no egg. The beef soup was eh. Garlic rice was garlic rice. Service was bad. Other diners got a tall glass of water but we were ignored and just got up and got our own little plastic cups of water from their pitcher. Great Filipino food in a casual environment. Authentic flavors and they have a very extensive menu. Place can get crowded during peak hours but they try to accommodate and are super kind. Prices are great as well. My kids love their lumpia and hubs loves their kare kare. Soups are really good too. Their pancit isn't the best, actually I would say is their low point. You can order a whole roast pig (lechon) also, just need to give them advance notice. Almost love their chicken Adobe. So there you go, they have all the great classics! read more

So glad we finally came to try this Filipino joint! I haven't had a lot of Filipino food, only ones I have tried were in the city. Compared to the city Filipino restaurants, I have to say I felt the authenticity in the food at Kabayan Grill. Their food tasted more homey, less salty and less greasy as compared to the other Filipino food I've had. Both my sons really liked the food kept saying "mommy the food is so good!" My husband was craving soup and the bulalo soup hit the spot. It was delicious, hearty, meaty, loaded with vegetables, just everything you can ask for in the perfect soup. Thought the small building was cute, and I liked the arch windows. Has it's own parking lot. Realized it was partly a store bec saw "walis tambo" and "tingting" (brooms) before we even entered. Pretty tight inside. Tables were back to back, side to side, with just enough space to walk through. Definitely not wheelchair accessible. Food can be ordered from the menu (which has similar layout as other Kabayans) or pick from the assortment of prepared food (turo-turo) which we did. Combo prices seemed ok - but food was mostly meh 2.5 rating. Bistek was fine, tender beef. Mongo was watery, though tasted ok. Laing was salty. Pork bbq was dry and had some chewy pieces. Didn't like the texture of the sago in the Sago drink, which was forgotten and had to ask for it- price is $1 more than on the menu, so not sure how accurate the menu is. Some pre-packaged baked goods/grocery items. A couple of the dining tables were filled with some. Spacious restroom in the back, via a tight hallway which had store items on one side. What a delicious and cozy spot! I was recommended this spot while I was in the area and this is definitely going into my saved collections for Long Island! There were so many foods I wanted to try but ultimately went with the Bulalo and barbecue pork belly skewers. I did end up buying some pandan to take home as well and I wish I had bought more. The Bulalo came in this huge pot with a giant bone marrow in it and even with 2 people, we could not finish it all. Best part was that it was only $25 for such a large portion. The broth was amazing and there was so much marrow. Usually, most restaurants don't give much marrow but this place was very generous with it. Been going to this cozy Filipino resto since it opened. For the positives, variety is plenty, staff is friendly and attentive, place is decently clean. For improvements - bathroom is old, leaky, and smelly; a senior server (Harold) is unkind, bossy to younger helpers, sometimes overcharging customers (or poor math skills?); the parking lot has holes, fly control is needed (are there other bugs?), annoying smoke or poor vent from the kitchen, very loud music, hot in summer, arroz caldo is bland. This time I just went for the Halo Halo, which is a Filipino shaved ice with flan pieces, adzuki beans, ube, ice cream, and evaporated milk. It was yummy. When I've been there before, I ordered a whole bunch of different food, and all was really good. The service is great. The staff is very helpful and answered my many questions as I did not know what half the stuff was. The ambiance is like a small cafeteria. I came across this place recently and it's crazy cause I remember this place being a Taco Bell a few years ago. It's nice that there are 2 Filipino restaurants right down the street from each other in East Meadow. Back in the day, there were none. I walked by here recently and saw they were advertising combo specials so I decided to grab lunch here on a weekday. Inside, you'll see all types of good stuff behind the counter including some tasty looking meat skewers. They have a decent amount of seating so it's a fine place to eat in. So I saw they were advertising a $7 combo of 1 dish + rice. So I picked a beef dish (I think it was beef tapa?) thinking it was going to be $7 but it was $2 extra cause it was beef. I thought this should have been communicated more clearly as their sign is hand written and not too clear for someone who isn't immediately familiar with what they have. FYI they had a cooler with lemon water for customers to take so that was great. My meal came out to $9.23 with tax included. So I sat down to eat and it didn't seem like that much food. They put the beef in a small paper container and it came with two smallish scoops of rice. The beef was juicy, had good flavor, and was very oily. I thought it was pretty solid, but there wasn't too much of it in that small cup. The rice was rice, nothing special. So the food was pretty alright but my meal was kind of one dimensional. Having some vegetables in the meal or an egg or something would've been nice to balance it out. All in all, I wasn't too impressed with my experience at Kabayan Grill. read more

They even had Filipino desserts and sweets. The staff is very nice. 1 star is lacking because the food is good but some are too oily but if you want you're Filipino fix, go to Kabayan! Everything I ordered today was made upon ordering. They also have a buffet counter with other food, but they also take orders and can make them for you while you wait. Unfortunately I was not able to try this place for the second time. The first time I visit the one in queens. I was really excited to eat Philippino food. The closing time was 7:30pm but chef leaves at 5:00pm. I arrived at 6:00 grrr Today I went to east meadow location, which closes at 8:00pm and I got there around 7ish and called before I got to the restaurant to confirm eatery. NO SUCH LUCK AGAIN!! I guess customer service is not on the top of there list. I don't believe I will go back to any Philippino restaurant. There are much more variety and options to chose from in LI and Queens... SCAMMED!! Don't waste your money!! Subtotal of dine in was supposed to be $54 but the total came out to $68!!! When I brought it up with the one in charge he was using excuses that it's an "old menu" and prices weren't updated. Then proceeded to say it was because of tax after I still insisted that he's over charging me and wouldn't admit he's wrong. No tax has an extra $14 added onto the amount on top of the $5 tax already on the receipt! Unbelievable. Owner proceeded to ridicule me and ask, "didn't you learn that in school?". This place is one of our go to places in Long Island. Place is pretty decent for a quick grab and go ulam spot. My wife sometimes finds the food a bit too sweet though. But I think it fine. Decent price and I like that they have a small grocery inside for your basic suka and Tito needs .. One thing though, get ready to smell like food even if you're only inside for a few minutes. I used to frequent this restaurant in spite of their cold garlic rice. I liked their pork BBQ sticks and liked that they sell the LAPID fried chicken skin chicharron. First thing on my list of complaints is due to last March 5th's experience. My brother, my 2 sons and I went there for breakfast at 10:45am . Here's what we ordered: 4 combos called Longsilog that consists of 2 Longanisas, Garlic Rice & eggs @ $9.95 5 regular sides that was charged as 2 combos but missing the rice if that's the case. First side was charged as a combo @ $8 and the other 3 @ 9.00. 4 turrones (sweet plantain rolls) @ $1.50 each. 3 sodas @ 1.00 each + 1 beverage @ $1.69 The total was $97.02!!! Does that make sense?!?! If you've been there, you know that they serve their food as is. If it's cold, it's cold. It doesn't get heated up. We were lucky since we ate at 10:45am. When I go at night, the rice is cold but since I do take-out, I didn't mind. I figured I could always heat it up at home. Now tell me, how come my charges at diners, even the expensive ones, charge me $60? They wait on us. Greeter seats us upon arrival. Bus attendant places our utensils on the table, gives us fresh coffee cups & asks if we want coffee. I'm the only one who takes coffee so he pours mine. At diners, our typical orders are: 1 corned beef hash & eggs served with home fries & toast & coffee @ $14.75 1 challah French toast @ $8.25 2 orders of 2 eggs with sausages, served with home fries and toast @ $12.20, total is $24.40 2 chocolate milks @ $8.00 total price 1 large Fresh squeezed OJ @ 6.25 Coffee with multiple refills is $3.00 Total for these: $68.15 + taxed at 8.625% = $74.02 That's a $22.99 difference! Knowing what I normally pay for breakfast, I asked for an itemized bill. Suddenly, I see the tall young man sweating. He talked to the older man, the one who wears a baseball cap most of the time, who told him to list everything that was charged. Young man starts adding things on the register. I see the total at $64 & change. He was literally sweating when he realized the difference and started over. He went up to $78. He redid it again. The total was $88.35. He gave $8.65 back to me. He apologized for the mistake. I said nothing. I drove away. Then I handed the itemized bill to my brother. I asked him to calculate and see if it made sense. I also asked my 15yo to do the calcitonins. They both said it kinda made sense except the SC. What was the SC? SERVICE CHARGE! They charged me a $13.89 service charge!!! What service was given? Scooped the food and placed it on the tray? It was a "turo-turo " restaurant. For the non-Filipinos, it refers to the method of ordering items by pointing at the food that's been prepared ahead of time. Think of a buffet stripped of a buffet but with sneeze guards. Then you bring the tray of food to your table. In this restaurant, they make you go & get your own PLASTIC utensils yourself. When you're done eating, you are expected to empty the trays into the garbage cans and then hand the empty trays back to them. So I asked the tall young man with glasses what the service charge was for. He said "I'm sorry but I'm only doing what my boss instructed me to do." I pressed on & asked again what the service charge was for. "It is because there were 4 of you." Diners & other restaurants place service charges on 5 or more. Large party service charges are imposed to protect the servers against lousy tips from tables that take up a lot of time. My two sons, brother and I do not qualify as a large party. I started to make a scene. Can you imagine that they basically charged me the $13.89 service charge plus the $8.65 that was refunded to me after I asked for an itemized bill? They are thieves. THIEVES!!!! They intended to pocket $22.54. Although they didn't wait on us, I placed a $5 in their tip charge. Why? I don't know. To be nice? I've been going to Kabayan Grill for years. I've had very high bills paid for my big orders. I never questioned them. I trusted that I was charged correctly since my to-go orders were usually large enough to feed 6 people + a few extras to save for the next day. Did they charge me a "SC" for buying a lot of food? They did not serve me when we dined in and take-out is the same process. Was I charged? How much have they stolen from me? Most likely several hundreds. I went there at least twice a month. AT THE VERY LEAST. Sometimes I would stop by on my own for a few little snack items since they are a restaurant/store. I've paid hundreds of dollars. We are talking thousands in fact for all the times I've gone there from 2018 to that Saturday. I frequent there to support a small Filipino-owned business. That ends now but Before I go, if you've been to Kabayan Grill and feel that you've been taken advantaged of, please speak up. Let everyone know what kind of thieves they are. We did not come here for the food but we DID come for the Halo Halo!! Y'all know me and my sweet tooth so I just had to have my sweet cravings satisfied. Before we came here, we went to another place around the area that had Filipino food and we regretted not coming here first. The other place did not have halo halo which is why we ended up eating here to satisfy our sweet tooth cravings. For those who don't know, halo halo is a very famous filipino dessert that consists of flan, jellies, ube ice cream, and sweet milk. It is SOOO good. The one here does NOT disappoint. For only $7 (I believe it was 6 but for the ice cream it was additional) you get a HUGE serving of halo halo. My boyfriend and I shared it and it was more than enough for the both of us. We were so satisfied after. Halo halo does tend to be on the sweeter side because of everything inside but it was so worth it. The workers were so sweet and they service was super quick. We would definitely come back again for their dishes. They also get bonus points for the parking lot outside as we didn't have to waste any time looking for a spot. 10/10 would recommend!! When I found out that this place is just a mile away from my work's new location, I decided to stop by today for take outs. The restaurant has a huge parking size- a plus since normally looking for parking is a headache. It has nice serving counters. An option of sit down dining, cafeteria style dining or to go ordering and pick-ups/delivery by Yelp services. Groceries are out for sale. The restaurant is sufficiently clean and neat that turned the place to be homey. It was an empty house at 4:30 PM so I said why not have some soup or noodles while waiting for my take out order. I specifically told to my waitress that I want to eat-in while waiting. Happy for the complimentary water with lemon when served which meant that she knew that I was staying to eat first. As I was waiting, I have noticed my take outs: tokwa't baboy (tofu with pork), fresh lumpia (vegetable wrap) and pinakbet (mixed vegetables with shrimp paste) were getting ready first and foremost than my lomi ( noodle soup) which was supposed to be eaten here. Big mistake in customer service especially that during the visit, I was the only customer that needed service. A bit pricey (food from the menu book) for the serving size. The combo pricing is reasonable and fair but the serving size will not make anybody with big appetite happy. Super disappointing! Food was inconsistent and from their buffet kitchen. They filled it up a mixing bowl and went around the table to serve all 13 of us. If they ran out, that was it. So some of us got to try everything while others did not. The portions were eh...inconsistency was the problem. They did not prepare the meal for 12 people. When we asked about the sausages, chicken adobo, fried chicken and pancit. They answered saying they sold out so that was why we did not get any. Who does that? I have ordered twice from this place using delivery apps while tasty they were inconsistent. The first time I order the barbeque pork was juicy and not chewy and came with fresh white rice. The garlic rice isn't for me the garlic is too strong and smokey it doesn't even taste like rice anymore. The pancit bihon was a great portion and easily shared. The second time I ordered the barbeque pork and chicken was a bit undercooked and a bit burnt on the outside. The pork was chewy. The arrozcaldo was refreshing but the garlic on top was overpowering and needed to be removed. Tasted like the same grilled garlic from the rice. Very good Filipino food! Tried it from their food truck when they were at Walt Whitman Mall and was impressed. Friendly staff. Solid offerings and large variety on the menu reminiscent of the Philippines. Ordered the fresh lumpia, lumpiang Shanghai, pork and chxn bbq sticks, laing and fish balls. I gave this establishment four stars mainly due to their outstanding staff. They were so friendly and accommodating. I thought the food was okay. Their other location in Elmhurst actually has better food but the service here is much much better. You can buy from the ready cooked options next to the register or you can order from the menu. They also offer different platter specials. The prices are about the same as the other locations. They have plenty of parking which is very nice. And this location just feels cleaner and brighter. It's not as crowded as the Elmhurst location so it feels much more civilised. read more
