Good spot for India food in San Ramon! My party of 5 came for a late lunch around 2 pm on Saturday. They don't offer a lunch buffet over the weekend; it's offered on weekdays only. The space is decently big and decor is modern. You feel like you're eating at a nice restaurant. The 5 of us shared a couple of appetizers and curries. We started out with the cauliflower manchurian ($10) and the samosa chaat ($11). Both were flavorful without being too spicy. We then shared veg three curries: shahi paneer ($14), kadai paneer ($14), and dal tadka ($13). Of the three, the dal and the shahi paneer were my favorites. The shahi paneer had a sweeter flavor than the kadai paneer, which was also good, but there was a lot more gravy than I'm used to in the kadai paneer. We also ordered an assortment of rice and breads (roti + naan) to eat with the curries. Please note they do close between lunch and dinner. We were there a little bit past 3 since we got there so late, and eventually they started dimming the lights and turning off the music as a hint to us to leave. read more

Honestly the food here was sub par. Seeing all these 5 star reviews, I'm convinced people don't have a palate and don't know what good food actually is. The food was extremely bland. We got the butter chicken, garlic naan and tandoori chicken. All were bland. Chicken curry wasn't hot when it came out, garlic naan was plain and the tandoori chicken was decent, but overall all lacked flavor. The service was non existent. Never checked on us, didn't refill our water, and the waitress seemed like she hated her life. The utensils all had food residue, as did the plates. Lastly it seemed tho as if they cater to individuals with the same ethnic background. I noticed this when there were guests that's clearly came after us and got served before us. Amazing lunch buffet! Came on a Thursday around 12:45 and it was busy but we were able to get seated right away since we were only 2 people. The smell of spices and herbs when you walk in is mouth watering! As soon as you're seated you're given water to show that the table is taken, and then it's self serve afterward. We tried a little bit of everything (butter chicken, egg biryani, fish pakora, vegetable pakora, and more) and were happily satisfied, the flavor of everything is amazing and they provide unlimited refills of naan. Also love the self serve chai too, and they have little sweet treats like kheer near there. It's about $20 a person for lunch buffet, which is a great deal for how delicious and fresh the food is!! read more

So this was my first ever experience with Indian food.... My boyfriend has had Indian food many times, and he thought Kabila was as good as if not better than what he's had in the past! Because it was my first time, we ordered fairly traditional items (butter chicken, potato samosa, tandoori chicken). We also ordered rice and naan to be safe the naan was served with a green dipping sauce that I thought was excellent! If they sell it by the bottle, I'll buy it! Everything else was good, since I don't have any experience with Indian food I'm not sure if it was traditional, if the seasonings were on point, etc. but if you like Indian food and live in the east bay I would give Kabila a try! read more

Kabila is the best Indian buffet this side of the San Ramon valley. It has great dish variety (lamb, chicken, vegetarian) and good flavors. The lunch buffetprice is a reasonable ~$20, and for that you get all you can eat and larger portions than what you'd get at any of the single order places nearby. Their naan is also good. read more

I think the food here is great. I am kind of surprised about the sub 4-star score. The Okra dish (Dhaba Bhindi) is the only one we've gotten which was not great. As one of the other pictures on here shows, they use pieces they shouldn't in this dish instead of throwing them out. The Cauliflower Manchurian is excellent. The Kadai Paneer is really good. Malai Kofta is great. And the Dal Bharani is solid as well. They lose one star for service because the second time I ordered from this place they told me it would be ready in 20-25 minutes. Apparently, they had a large catering order come in and didn't account for that when providing the estimated time. I arrived, asked for my order, they took several minutes to find it, then told me it would be ready in 5-10 minutes. Well, 45 minutes later, they gave me my order. This was 75 minutes after I placed the order and nearly an hour longer than they originally stated over the phone when I ordered. That is some serious lack of respect for their customer's time to make someone wait for an hour. No problem if you have a catering order and screwed up the time. Call me back. We go to Kabila every weekend!! The reason my family and I love Kabila is due to their delicious food, excellent customer service and friendly staff. Manager, Harwinder pajji always greets us with a warm smile. It feels like home eating at Kabila. The ambience is lively and comforting. Very bad experience at Kabila, San Ramon on a weekday buffet on friday. We are vegetarian and they had 3 curries and they were all at the bottom, when we asked them to refill, they just added pakora on like that, no mixing at all, they taste really awful. 5 stars for Kabila's lunch buffet!! We first tried this restaurant for takeout and our dinner was delicious-full of spices and very flavorful. I've since visited multiple times for the lunch buffet. Every dish is freshly made and the buffet stays full. Service is quick and attentive for water and clearing out dishes. My favorite is the tandoori chicken, goat/mutton curry and the green sauce. I do wish there were more vegetable options. Kabila's lunch buffet is a family favorite and we'll be back for sure. read more

They suck at doing the simplest tasks! If you order from here they will 100% not get your order right, whether it's from uber eats, door dash, Over the phone, or pick up. I've given them the benefit of the doubt 3 times and they still can't do the simplest thing like adding extra chutney to your order. Came here for a group lunch to celebrate Diwali. They have a nice buffet with lots of meat and vegetarian curries, tandoori chicken, and some seafood dishes too. There's several different rice dishes as well. The problem is trying to try everything because there are so many choices, and everything I had was delicious. The naan came to the table, and it was warm and soft. There's also chai tea, but limited sweets on the day we were here. There was only rice pudding and besan burfi (or barfi). Neither was very sweet and just ok for me. Overall, a very good buffet and quite reasonable for $25. read more

Aloo tikki chaat was overall good, only complaint would be the taste of the oil used for frying Tikkis. It tasted like dalda back in India or Maybe oil going rancid (I hope not!). We also got dal maharani, shahi paneer, and mixed breads- everything tasted good. Paratha are tandoori paratha which had good amount of filing and tasted well. I'm shocked I've been sleeping on this place given the very limited selection of Indian restaurants in the East Bay! I was in the area for a medical appointment and stopped by Ulta afterwards and was curious when I saw this restaurant as I hadn't heard of it before. Walked in and saw a buffet was available and it loooked good!! The selection is measured but delicious. Apps were tandoori chicken, fish pakora and chutneys. Then Butter chicken and Goat curry. Goat biryani and veg biryani. Gobi masala, paneer, and chole for the 3 veg curries. Goat was amazing, but all the food was good. The desserts were incredible! Kheer and moong halwa were extremely well made, and this is coming fe someone who does not have a sweet tooth whatsoever! I rarely eat ice cream or Indian sweets except gulab jamun. Food was very authentic and delicious. It is a large restaurant, it did not feel crowded despite being quite busy. Service was good. Will be back for lunch buffet! $20 and hits the spot. read more

Buffet was mediocre while it lasted. We were a larger group so it took a while to get seated - the staff were clueless as to how to sit us or had an estimated wait time. Anyway, we were seated at 2.20 pm on a Saturday and staff confirmed that the buffet is ongoing. We start eating (took 5-10 min to get things going), at around 2.40 pm ish, we noticed the buffet counters almost depleted and when asked, staff said that buffet closes at 2.30 pm - why the hell did you sit us and suggested your buffet then?? In addition, as the food was dwindling, I noticed at least on 3 occasion that the staff diverting buffet food to takeout orders - see image below. Come here if you are craving some good Indian food! We went for the lunch buffet and we were definitely satisfied with the dish offerings. All of our favorites were served. From paneer to fish pakoras they had what we wanted. This may make the review a bit biased however if you enjoy these traditional dishes the same way as we do then this is the place for you. Everything was flavored perfectly. Not too spicy and not too strong with the curry spices. The goat curry was fantastic. The meat was tender and flavorful. I like how they cut the tandoori chicken pieces in half. It allows for better control of your portions. This is because you will definitely want to save room to try everything! I also want to make a point to mention the naan. I have had naan from a lot of different places. Somehow this one stood out! It was cooked perfectly on the outside yet stayed light and chewy on the inside. For us that is perfection. Can't wait to bring more of my friends and family here. First of all, we had to wait 15 minutes in line to put in a takeout order. Then they said 25 minutes, wait but it took 50 minutes for them to get my order done, a total of 65 minutes. Then we bring our food home and all four entrées tasted about the same, rice was undercooked, and the very mild butter chicken was spicy so my husband could not eat it.. We have been to this restaurant twice and each time we were left very sick for the rest of the day. All the food served are drenched in oil even the plain rice. The food was so flavorful . When we ordered the lamb Punjabi, we ask for mild spicy and our waiter asked "you don't eat spicy?" I looked at him and figured out that he is hinting that this dish is meant to be eaten spicy. Hahah. I told him "ok, no change, I trust the chef and I will eat however the chef prepares the dish." The dish turned out to be flavorful and medium spicy. It was very good. Our first dish was tikki chaat. It was so flavorful and very spicy. The mashed potatoes were very soft with a variety of sauces, yogurt, and a small amount of fresh jalapeños. I wanted to lick the plate clean. Hahah I love it when the food is spicy but not lose the flavor. It is above normal spicy. I scooped all the left over sauces onto my plate. I impatiently waited for my naan to clean up those sauces. It turned out to be my favorite dish. We also ordered tandoori chicken. I like the green sauce. It was a very cold night. I got a double order of the Marsala chai tea. It was also very delicious. My dessert was Gulab jamun. The smell of butter from the fried ball just made me say "yum." I was sad that the fried ball was not soaked in syrup so I can drink the sweet nectar. Was so excited when Kabila finally reopened after their closure during lockdown. Unfortunately, don't think they have fully recovered from that enforced closure. Came by for lunch about 4 months ago, Halloween 2024. At 12:30 pm, the dining room was only half full. Pre-lockdown, this place was full with a wait list. The buffet is now mostly rice dishes though they had the requisite tandoori chicken, butter chicken, dal, chana masala, goat curry, and pakora. A nice selection but nothing like the abundance of the pre-COVID buffet. Also noticed the serving dishes were not refilled until they were almost completely empty. The butter chicken was mostly sauce with a few lonely chicken bits swimming in the gravy. Honestly the sauce is always the best part. But still. Won't ding them too much for this because I approve of minimizing waste. But at 12:30 pm (the middle of lunch) don't think waiting for more chicken when I only have a 1 hour break was good customer service. Another oops, noticed the flavors have been toned down. One thing I really liked about the buffet pre-COVID was the food's intense flavor profiles. Now the food tastes OK but doesn't stand out from that of other restaurants in the area. We went for a weekday lunch buffet which was decent. The buffet provides option to taste multiple dishes, however was not impressed with most of the dishes. The spread had 3/4 appetizers, 2 chicken entree, 1 goat entree, chicken biryani , 3/4 vegetarian entrees. There were a couple of desserts and tea. The goat was the best, very soft and delicious. My fiancé and I used to live in San Ramon and would come here when we craved Indian food. The only reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars is because we've noticed the food comes out inconsistent. We've ordered from here many times and we get worried to how the food will turn out but order anyways because even if we suffer eating it, some of the foods aren't spicy and taste amazing. I usually order the Baingan Bharta and my fiancé orders the chicken Tikka Masala. We both share rice and Naan. When the food come out at the right spice level, it's amazing! But sometimes it's so unbearably hot that it's so difficult to eat. We ask for it mild and it's still so hot. I have had to ask them for VERY VERY VERY mild and then it's just right! Food is great! Kabila has been our go-to place for Indian food since a long time now. The food is great. The staff is very kind too. They are very warm and welcoming people and whenever we eat at Kabila, we feel as if we're being welcomed into a friend's house rather than a restaurant. The servers are so kind. We have liked pretty much everything we've tried at this restaurant. However, our favorites would be the Amritsari chhole, the veg samosas, the paneer tikka masala (it's not on the menu but just ask for it....they'll make it for you) and the masala coke (again....this is not on the menu but just ask for it). Service is quick and efficient too. Haven't tried the buffet yet but we will try it soon! read more
