Parking is pretty easy - there's a parking garage available within walking distance. The only downside is the restaurant and this cafe area is located on the 2nd floor of a building and the elevator was not operating when we were here. Not bad for us as we're still mobile, but could be a blocker for others. There are 2 screens available for you to order your drinks and sandos at outside of the restaurant and right before the balcony space. I opted for their strawberry matcha and the banana chocolate sando. It came out to about $15 for both before tip. Overall, the drink wasn't very strong in matcha flavor and the freeze dried strawberry bits on top of the foam didn't do much for me, but the sando was crispy and filled with a generous amount of whipped cream and bananas. read more

I was surprised to see what our wait was as it seemed like there were several open tables through our stay. We got our menus and started to order. You can actually order online for your table, which made it easier as multiple people could order at the same time. Food came out pretty quick compared to other AYCE sushi places I've been to, which was nice. I've had times where I've forgotten I've ordered and food comes out to me unexpected, 30 minutes later... not here! We definitely ordered the one omikase box allowed per table. The raw fish is pretty good for an AYCE place and they have a nice selection of rolls and cooked food as well, most of which was pretty good for an AYCE place. I've been coming here for years! Recently saw they have pocket sandwiches thanks to TikTok. Called my order in over the phone and was told they would be ready in 15 minutes. Arrived and paid as they were bagging my order. I've never been to Japan so I can't compare them to the real thing, but these are gooooooood! The order total was about 37 dollars for 4 pocket sandwiches. They contain a lot of filling whether it be the fruit one or the chicken. Their elevator was out of order and the stairs that led up to the restaurant were really interesting, it felt like going up to a doctor's office. I tried both the AYCE sushi restaurant and the cafe side, and honestly, my experience was very different between the two. For the AYCE sushi restaurant, it was good but not exactly mind-blowing. The fish and seafood variety didn't taste like the freshest quality, and after a while, a lot of the rolls started tasting the same. For around $45 AYCE, I personally think there are better options out there. Some of the skewers came out burnt. Takoyaki was 1/5, you can skip on taht. But that being said, the service was really good. The lady serving us was super friendly and attentive, and overall the staff was kind and welcoming. However, there was only one other table besides ours at the time, so I'm not sure how service would be during peak hours. Now the cafe side, I loved it. The vibe made me feel like I wasn't even in Hayward. The sandos were really good, and the matcha looked amazing. I'd definitely come back for the cafe experience alone. My biggest concern though is the elevator situation. It wasn't working during our visit, and I heard it hasn't been working for quite a while. When you get to the second floor, there are kiosks to your left where you can order cafe menu items and to the right is the sushi restaurant. The doors lead to the balcony waiting area, which I'll admit has beautiful views of the hills and downtown Hayward. Best to come in the evening when lighting is photo worthy. The menu options are mostly matcha and sandos, which are sweet or savory, and sushi bento boxes. Stopped by with family and got the following 1. Strawberry matcha - 10/10 omg the matcha was DARK, well mixed and frothy. This is what matcha is supposed to taste like. The strawberries and cream at the bottom were perfect and not over sweet. 2. Mango matcha - 10/10 same as above 3. Salmon sashimi sando - 10/10 this savory one was so good. They mixed it in a spicy mayo sauce and crisped the bread to a yummy buttery perfection. 4. Strawberry sando - 10/10 so dang good! They also crisped the bread in butter but it was a sweet butter flavor. 5. Banana sando - 10/10 absolute banger if you love bananas. We ordered two of the sushi boxes, a strawberry sando and the chocolate sando, and a salted matcha. The wait was a bit long for the drinks and sandos being that we were the only customers there. I'm not too much of a fan of the matcha. The sandos were pretty good but don't expect the chocolate to be sweet. It was straight unsweetened cocoa powder which threw my kids off lol. Tried their AYCE for dinner and thought it was reasonably priced for what you can get, especially if you're big on sashimi. Started off with the omakase box which came with 5 different items curated for our two person party. Also got a salmon nigiri and all the fish tasted fresh. If everything on their menu was this caliber and taste, I think this could have be a 4.5 instead of a 3.5. Unfortunately, their rolls, tempura, and hand rolls were not to our liking (mostly because the rice had too much vinegar). I would have been curious to try their ramen if it wasn't so hot, but the restaurant didn't have the AC in and we ended up skipping this option. Hinata has been one of my fav AYCE sushi spots since 2023. You've got unlimited rounds in a specific time frame to order. They do limit how many items you can order per round to limit food waste which is great! The staff is very patient and enthusiastic when they know you're really enjoying your food. Their menu is very versatile, offering a lot more than just rolls or nigiri. You can get a perfectly seasoned Gyudon or even a chef's choice sashimi box! Their menu has changed a lot over the years but I think that their dinner menu right now is at its peak. My go to is the scallop skewers. Tender, fresh, and a nice bbq flavor from the open flame and a great value! The restaurant has a lot of seating but it's better fit for groups of 2-6 rather than larger parties. I am rating this lower because it is on the second floor and has a BROKEN ELEVATOR for over a YEAR, which makes it impossible for disabled people, wheelchair users and my senior dog from accessing this restaurant. They have a new matcha bar with bentos and sandos and a cute outdoor patio I want to visit with my dog but I can't get in due to the broken elevator. I wanted to bring my elderly mother here for all you can eat sushi but she cannot walk up stairs. Please fix this! This would increase your number of customers. Ordering delivery is nice but all people deserve access to your restaurant. It is not ADA compliant and Yelp needs to change this on this listing. They have an AYCE sushi restaurant, but outside on the patio there is a small stand that sells matcha, bento boxes, and both sweet and savory sandos. 100% recommend! I attended the Patio's Grand Opening day and it was all beautifully set up and the food was perfection! The chicken sandos stayed warm and were amazingly good! The spicy does have a kick to it so be aware if you have a light tolerance to spice. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The balance of flavors is perfect. The fruit sandos were just as amazing with the fluffy cream and bread. Best sandos I have had. The matcha was also really good. I love pistachios, but the strawberry came through better in the drink. Our group of 4 went to Hinata Sushi Kitchen to celebrate a birthday. They are on the second floor of a building next to a cinema. First thing we noticed is that they have an outdoor patio that is very popular with families and couples ordering Matcha drinks and sweet Japanese sando from two large tablet devices. It is a very Instagrammable spot with a swing and artificial flowers. The main dining room itself is huge. The furnitures are very basic, however, and lend the dining room a budget vibe, making us felt overdressed. We decided on the AYCE option. The waitress informed us that on the first round we cannot order more than 3 items per person. After the first round, however, we are free to order on my own using our phone to scan the barcode and select items from the menu. What makes Hinata unique is the omakase box offered as part of the AYCE option. This is a chef's choice selection of premium sashimi pieces set in a wooden box and decorated with an orchid flower. For our omakase box we had very good tuna, hamachi, salmon and some kind of smoked fish, plus a large piece of scallop with roe on a decorative spoon. We were impressed with the omakase box. However, that turned out to be the only thing we liked from the AYCE menu. Although there are good variety of choices(appetizers, cold dishes, nigiri sushi, hand rolls, sashimi, sushi rolls, mini ramen or don, etc) for AYCE, the quality of the other items are just so so. Soft shell crabs were soggy and had too much batter. Mini ramen tasted bland. Grilled skewers of pork belly and scallops lacked depth. Hand rolls had too much rice. It was almost out of place because it was a box of premium nigiri among your standard strip mall sushi rolls. You can even order sushi rice on the side if you wanted to make your own nigiri. They had a wide selection of rolls to choose from, they don't overload the rice like some other places. First thing if you have any difficulties with walking up stairs keep in mind their elevator does not work so it's not ADA friendly. You do have to go upstairs to get into the restaurant. I did enjoy the sandwiches because they are sweet and the fruits are very fresh. The sandwiches also have mozzarella shredded cheese in the bottom I wasn't expecting but it was good. They also offer small bowls of ramen but I would not go here for ramen. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor by the Cinemark Hayward 16 movie theater. There is an elevator available for handicapped folks. Easy to find. Plenty of street parking or at the free parking lot across the street or the free garage parking in the back. The staff are helpful but they don't remember who orders what and just puts it on the table. The best one to order here is the Omakase Box which has fresh fish selection. I'm very pleased with everything. (I took the matcha down to Kin down the street to sip matcha and play board games. Perfect combo) * Strawberry Matcha: I was pretty skeptical. I always get strawberry matchas wherever I go. The first time I went, I skipped this one. My boyfriend got it instead. I didn't like the photo because the matcha seemed too light. It's only because the matcha is mixed into a cold foam, so it can get the pretty layering effect in the photo. Strawberry chunks at the bottom, milk in the middle, matcha foam on top. Very pretty. Yeah, if the matcha wasn't in the foam it wouldn't float so well. I still loved it! I could taste the matcha very well, despite how milky this drink is overall. The milk is basically strawberry milk once you swirl it all up. No notes. Yummy. * Double Matcha: So good. I love matcha so I wanted more of it. Delicious matcha latte on the bottom with a sweet matcha foam on top. Wow. Again, not too overwhelming with milk, it's just creamy enough for that earthy deep flavor of the matcha to come through. I would get this again and again. * Dirty Strawberry Matcha: This is my usual order anywhere, though this one doesn't have strawberry chunks at the bottom. It's like a strawberry milk with matcha poured on top. NOT matcha foam. I'm more used to this kind. It was good, I swirled it all together. Again, creamy. Lightly sweetened by the strawberries. In the end, I couldn't taste much of the strawberries, but I don't mind. I still enjoyed the overall flavors. ** Note: There's no options for alternative milks. Fine, I'll take multiple lactaids then! Still tastes great, but I do wish I could enjoy these without dairy. Also, no sweetness or ice change levels. This I don't mind. They barely give you any ice. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. Personally, I like that. The drinks that I've had so far aren't too sweet anyways also. So the sugar level isn't a problem. You order through a kiosk, so bring a card to pay. Bento boxes: * Truffle Salmon Bento Box: I first tried the truffle salmon. It was really tasty. I am a salmon lover. Raw salmon is my main diet. Fresh, big slices, even ratio of fish to rice, the sauce is sweet but light. Would get again. Be warned! The truffle is smelly!!! I don't care for mushrooms so I scraped it off and gave it to my boyfriend. Big thumbs up. * Ichi Don: I also tried the other salmon box, this one was torched salmon. I don't really care for my salmon to be cooked at all. I will make an exception! They torched it just enough to get a smoky flavor but still keep the creamy texture and flavor of the raw salmon. The slices of eel were tender, I love eel! The crab and seaweed salad on the side were so good too, fresh and just the right amount. Both boxes were big, good portions. I shared some, and still got full. Rice is definitely helpful for feeling filled, but luckily they offer nice cuts of fish to fill you too. Worth it in my opinion. * Blueberry Sando: Simple. Bread and whipped cream, fresh fruit. Buttery and light, the cream cuts through the richness of the butter. While the blueberries offer that tart sweetness. I liked it a lot. I'm sure all the other sandos are great as well. They're all pretty simple, but are executed in a visually pleasing way while also being a great combo of flavors. Can't go wrong. For $29 AYCE sushi in the Bay for the lunch special, that's a pretty good price. I would pay $20 alone just for the chirashi bowl. I wouldn't pay $42 for the more extensive AYCE dinner menu however. The restaurant itself is on the second floor of the building. Thankfully there was a working elevator to get to the second floor. The place itself is pretty clean. The staff were speaking to each other in Cantonese while you eat with Hong Kong pop playing in the background, which I found hilarious and only added to the atmosphere. When I went on a random weekday, the place was pretty empty sans like maybe 3 other tables occupied. Like many others have experienced, despite punching in your orders through the iPad many of the things we ordered never came out, which ended up working out fine for me because my party was so full after maybe 3 rounds. For the lunch menu, you get to choose one special item per person like the chirashi bowl or donburi and for the rest of the menu you punch in your orders through the iPad. The fried food (karaage, squid tempura, shrimp tempura, veggie tempura) was okay compared to other AYCE joints, nothing noteworthy. The sushi rolls were quite filling but also nothing noteworthy about them. By the time we asked for the check we were all feeling heavy and gross kinda like after one left the Hometown Buffet back in the day and not like heavy and gross but still satisfied... like the pain was worth it yaknow? Came here for a late lunch on a Sunday, wasn't really packed at all so it was nice, got sat down and someone first took our first round then we do the rest on a QR code at the table, pretty smooth sailing. The food overall was nothing pretty special, presentation wise it was nice, but the wish is a little chewy and had more of a fishy taste which I didn't really enjoy. Fried & hot foods were good though. I recommend doing the full menu if you like raw fish to an extent but I would just go for the lunch menu price. The place is located up on the 2nd floor on the left before entering Cinemark, it is pretty easy to miss if you aren't looking around. This used to be a buffet but it has solid ground and it has a nice vibe. Recommend for a good AYCE sushi place in downtown Hayward! read more

I can't believe I finally tried this place out! It's been on my radar since forever! So I've been to this spot before , when it was a buffet. Location is still easily accessible and with plenty of free nearby parking. The service is decent. They aren't the friendliest, but they do get the job done and keep the orders coming on time and accurately. The bussers do a great job keeping the table clear of used plates, which is really nice! Sushi rolls were tasty, the omakase box was yummy and fresh, but honestly they don't really include the nigiri option as ayce and that sucks a lot! They have the tastiest skewers though gosh! Sushi is generally supposed to be nigiri pieces so... for that this place only gets a 4. Loved the food! The price isn't worth the hype though and especially because the ayce package was limited!
