This place was a very surprising find. The Koobideh was amazing, one of the best I have had in a long time. The rice was also fantastic. Very fluffy and soft the way rice should be made. My Friend and I decided to go here based on Yelp reviews, and it was worth the visit and the reviews .At first we didn't want to go there due to the fact that it is in a strip mall and doesn't look that great from the outside. Being Iranian and just moved to Walnut Creek, I didn't want to risk eating at a bad Persian restaurant. But once we read the reviews and walked in, I was glad I went. It had a beautiful decor and was full of Persian families eating (always a good sign when you go to ethic restaurant and see people of that ethnicity eating there). The staff was also very lively even though it was around 9pm. The Barg was pretty good but not as good as the Koobideh. The Dough was made with regular water instead of carbonated which made it much smoother and very taste. The owner and waitresses were very friendly and nice. They even brought us extra rice for free without us even needing to ask. It was a very pleasant and enjoyable dinning experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant to persians and non-persians alike. If you like good Iranian food, Check out the Kabob House. A lot better then Pomegranate on North Main. I had lunch here about a week ago. I got the ground beef kabob (Koobideh) which came with saffron rice and a grilled tomato. It was the most flavorful ground beef I have ever tasted and so juicy! Generous portions too as I could only eat half of my lunch. All this for only $8. I want to go back and try the chicken kabob lunch and also their dinner entrees. One reviewer compared this place to Silk Road and Pomegranate. I don't think that is a fair comparison as those are Mediterranean restaurants and Kabob House is Persian. If you must compare to another WC establishment then it should be Bijan at the corner of Locust and Giammona. read more

My husband took me here for a special dinner, knowing that I really wanted to have dinner here. I had a house specialty, a walnut pomegranate puree with shredded chicken over basmati rice. It was amazing. He had the lamb. I could tell he really enjoyed it. We loved the fresh made lavash. We also ordered an appetizer, a yogurt sauce thingy that was divine with the lavash. We were not familiar with the spice on the table -- sumac-- and the server with the Iran necklace sent us home with a few packets of it to try at home. Our food was absolutely delicious! We decided to give this "strip mall" place a whirl...What did we have to loose. Our Persian place in Concord had dissapointed us the last couple of visits, with sound checks from a DJ during dinner to not having the stew we wanted twice. Well...this place is more than we had hoped for. Great, warm, friendly service, amazing food and surprisingly nice ambiance. Really, the food was delicious, generous portions, cooked well and served with care. It was a quiet night and we arrived after 8:00pm and were served a fantastic meal. I came here about a week ago to pick up my phone order. It was my first time, my first impression is that this place is small although it felt cozy. I was overall happy with my experience, my food was hot and fresh and they even added a large piece of freshly baked bread in my take out bag. I ordered the Koobideh and Joojeh kabob along with the eggplant appetizer which tasted great. My reason of 4 stars is that it was overpriced for the amount of food I received. I expected more quantity although the quality of the food was better than I expected. I will be back next time I crave Persian food, just not too often! :) read more

I took my parents to this little hidden gem in a small shopping area on Newell Ave. They had a Great service and delicious food in a warm cozy atmosphere. My parents loved the lamb shish kabob and we all ate our fingers with the delicious Mirza Ghassemi dish served with their tanouri bread. We will definitely come back. I recommend it highly. We took the family to the Kabob House for a late lunch yesterday. We were most impressed with the quality and taste of the food not to mention the wonderful hospitality of the charming Persian couple, recently arrived from Dublin, Ireland who now own the restaurant. It definitely has the feel of being in someone's home and one receives all the care and attention that goes with that. I would highly recommend the restaurant for all Persian food lovers. Dined here with friends and as soon as we opened our menus got lost among the chicken bargs, kabobs and combo platters. As if we summoned a magical menu wizard, this man pops out of nowhere to explain the menu items and help pick out our choices. (I'll glaze over the fact that you almost tricked me into spending an extra $12 Mr. Menu Man, otherwise thumbs up for A+ customer service!) One koobideh and lamb kabob combo later, my stomach is satisfied and i'd say this place is definitely worth a return. I absolutely love this place! By far my favorite restaurant in the area right now. Very welcoming interior with the friendly owners helping to serve you. Food is amazing and very authentic. I always default to the super juicy traditional koobideh and rice with almonds, carrots, etc. I've also tried bites of the other things on the menu and it's all so good. I actually have leftovers from last night in my fridge! The baklava is so delicious I don't even know where to begin explaining it. Definitely a must have at the end of your meal. Overall, VERY highly recommended compared to ALL of the Persian/Mediterranean food in the area. I've been to pretty much every one of them within a 4 mile radius and none of the others compare, in both price and taste. Will be returning very soon! :) read more

This place is superb. There are a few Persian restaurants around but after trying them all this one stands apart. It's a family owned business and the daughter (i believe) served us. At the time we went, we were fairly new to Persian (not the case anymore) and she was very sweet and helpful with the menu and personal suggestion she had for how to enjoy the food. The small dining room and family run atmosphere was absolutely fantastic to experience in Walnut Creek. Too often restaurants in WC attempt to appear more glamourous than they are and the mom and pop's and the dives just seem to get ignored. As always our favorite here was the koobideh, and they are very generous with the roasted tomatoes and rice. Kabob house is a must try for any Persian food fan! read more

This place was very amazing! Food: Exceptional! Decor: very elegant and romantic! The outside is sorta janky but when you walk into the restaurant it takes you completely away to a different land. The chicken Kabob is the moistest around. This is hands down the best I have had in the bay area. They are attentive and even gave my husband and I a complimentary plate of crispy rice and green stew. I also really like the savory yogurt that goes with everything. Best kabob i have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and it tasted amazing. Not dry, not charred. Perfect. We also shared a lamb stew. I am not a fan of lamb really, but the owner recommended it and boy was he right! It was delicious! The eggplant appetizer was also amazing. We walked out of there 100% satisfied. One of the best Koobideh. I was introduced to this place by business colleagues for lunch. Owners are very courteous and hospitable. They make you feel so welcome as if you are guests in their home. Food is delicious, juicy and flavorful. Real authentic Persian food. On top of it prices were amazingly low. I hope they are making profits at this prices because rent in the Newell are is not cheap.I am going back with my wife, hopefully sooner than later. Never had kabobs before, went here for my 28th birthday this year and wow SO tasty. The rice is great too, for being just rice you expect it to be bland without any sauce on it, but the seasoning is great. Had the lamb and chicken mixed kabob plate, both were cooked great and tasted like heaven, the chicken slightly dry but not anywhere near the point of thinking about returning it. The atmosphere is another story, I would have never thought such a nice looking place would be in this (somewhat ghetto looking) strip mall. The guy that I assume was the owner was very attentive to our needs and questions as well as the waiter, both very friendly! At the end he tried to say we didn't put the right amount on the bill after adding tip, we noticed before we left and we told him we were right after all, lol. He totally seemed like it was an accident and was very apologetic, fixed it back to the proper amount and apologized profusely to us. Would go more often if I lived closer and the prices were a little less, now it isn't cheap but for this quality of food I expected the prices, it was worth it BUT I am slightly frugal :D Check this place out if you get the chance! read more

Not too sure where to start besides my wife and I love this place! First off do not let the location deter you at all. The food is awesome, the kabobs are juicy. The stews are one in a million. The owners and their daughters treat us like family. They even help entertain our 2.5 year old son when he "acts up" when their time allows. Sure the location is small, but it gives us a feel of walking into our family dining room at home with all the food comforts and joys we can ever want. When we eat there we get our "regular" items and we could not ask for any better service than is provided to us. The quality of the foods, tea's and deserts are top notch. We can not imagine going anywhere else for our Persian food, even across the bay to SF we have not found anything that compares. Amazing! I've had the Baghali Polo, Lamb Shanks, Koobideh Kabob and Barg Kabob. My family is from Iran and I love that I found authentic Persian food at a casual place where I can go with friends or get take out. The staff is really friendly and the owner gave my friends and I coupons for our next visit. I love supporting locally owned places and this one is awesome! Also, the portions are HUGE. This is a family owned and operated establishment that deserves a strong following-- the food is good, the people friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere quiet enough for a decent conversation without shouting (a rarity these days). We've tried about half the menu and not had a bad dish so far-- and we've specifically ordered things that aren't the established staples (the Kebobs). One of my only criticisms is also a strength, depending upon what you want and need from dinner-- service is swift and you can have a meal in well under an hour if you choose to. I sometimes prefer to linger a bit (and you can do that) but food arrives quickly (this is great if you want 'real food' before catching a movie, for example). One thing I'd like to see is either an expanded wine list or a corkage-- the wines available are limited. I suspect if I brought a wine they would open it (but I haven't tried or asked specifically about this yet). The place doesn't look like much from the outside-- it's in a neighborhood strip center-- but that's part of the attraction too. It has ample free parking and doesn't get slammed by the yuppie tourist foodies that are screwing up a lot of our favorite Walnut Creek dining locales. Having lived all my life in Orange County, CA it makes it really tough to find a good Persian Resturaunt. I believe OC/LA have by far the best Persian Resturaunts hands down. I recently moved to Downtown Walnut Creek about 6 weeks ago & last week I had a horrible experience at a Persian Resturaunt in which I won't mention here but have already reviewed. I wish I would've came to Kabob House first. Yes it is tucked into a small strip mall/shopping plaza so you can say it's a hole in the wall. I was politely greeted upon walking in, the service was excellent and to me service goes a long way even if the food isn't amazing. I ordered mast Mousier & a Kabob Soltani. They have a full service menu and I will definitely come here again when I'm in the mood for Persian Food. The pricing for being the Bay Area I understand. The food overall was pretty good but like I said it's tough for me because Southern California and Los Angeles will always be the best Persian food for me. Portion size was decent overall. I like my Mast Mousier thicker than liquid, there Mast was better than the previous place and so was there Kabob Barg. I have to try other things on the menu to see. Again in Downtown Walnut Creek you only have to choices for Persian Food so I'm happy to have gone here as they were far superior and better than the other option. With Kabob and the other traditional dishes it comes down to the ingredients, the process, quality of meats, and your chef. What makes the restaurants in OC and LA so great is their recipes, methods, and having had long time chefs teach this process over and over to those in the kitchen. This place had very nice and pleasant decor compared to the unattractive strip mall. Dark wood mahogany tables and chairs with white linen tablecloths created a nice atmosphere. The waiter/owner? was very gracious and hospitable. I ordered the chicken combo (combination of chicken and koobideh kabob) and it was moist, flavorful and delicious. They served it with a huge bed of saffron rice and grilled tomatoes. The waiter told me to mash up the tomatoes and mix it up in my rice with butter and sprinkle it with the sumac berry spice that was sitting on the table. Delish! For dessert, I ordered the baghlava; it was flavored with rose water and cardamon. It tasted better than the Greek style baklava's that I've tried. I'm definitely coming back! read more

I had the lunch special Koobideh (ground beef) kabob. It was pretty good and came with rice, a small side salad and some flatbread. Very filling and very cheap, a great place for lunch. The Koobideh kabob at Bijan (the other Persian place in WC) actually had better flavor and was less greasy, but it also costs more. It didn't wow me, but it did satisfy me. The service at lunch wasn't great and the location is a little out of the way. However, the food and prices are reasonable. Great place for lunch if you are in the area. Unfortunately, it feels so out of the way that you'll probably pass this place up for something closer or more noticeable. read more

I went here on a Wednesday night and got my food to go. Place was clean and operated by an adorable couple who was bickering a little bit when I was there. I ordered the Mirza Ghasemi (baked eggplant with tomato, garlic, eggs and other spices) and the Lamb Kabob. The Mirza Ghasemi was delicious! I ate this with the bread they provided. It was really oily and probably not healthy, but definitely a good dish to try. The Lamb Kabob was not bad. I think I've had better, but it was still juicy and the portions were decent. They give you A LOT OF RICE! The saffron basmatic rice here is delicious. I could eat it forever! I got the Limeade as a drink and I really liked it because it wasn't overly sweet. I definitely want to come back and try other dishes (it seems like they have pretty good vegetarian options and a few seafood dishes). I really wanted to try all their desserts (I love Persian ice cream) but had to restrain myself because I already had a lot of junk food earlier in the day. Next time! read more

Best food I've had in Walnut Creek thus far! Went with the boy to get dinner a couple nights ago. The service was great and respnosive, and we got enough to probably feed a small family. We tend to over-order and over-eat. Especially when there's free bread. Definitely when there's free bread. The lamb shank was awesomely fall-off-the-bone delicious. We fought (as much as two stuffed people could fight) over the last bite. And continued to shovel the basmati rice in our faces as quickly as possible. We also got the tahdig, which is crispy rice (don't get it if you have weak teeth or jaws) with stew. I liked it, although it was more sour than I was expecting. The conversation towards the end of the evening went something like this: "I'm so FULL." *takes a bite* "Me too!" [pause] *takes a bite* "I should stop eating... This Persian restaurant is a gem that should not be missed by any means. Today afternoon was my first visit & I visited this place due to the high rates given by the other yelp reviewers. Yes, this restaurant is cute, clean and comfy. Their decor is very inviting and pleasing to your eyes. For the appetizer, we ordered hummus & the pickled veggies that was served with their bread. The hummus was so good that we took some home as it was the best ever hummus. It was slightly more coarser topped with a generous amount of olive oil. They also serve their house salad for indoor dining. For our entree, we had ordered the chicken kebab served with basmati rice and also the grilled veggies with eggplant puree, dill rice and basmati rice. The quantity was very good and the taste was superb. We finished our lunch with 2 baklava's to go as we were stuffed. The baklava's are to die for as they were the best (5 stars). I am planning to visit again as I want to try the other items that is on the menu. My final opinion:- 1. Good restaurant to take your family or friends. 2. The free, hot bread that they bring to the table is AWESOME, and the chicken and rice was delicious. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside; its in a strip mall. I wasn't disappointed with my lunch today -- I just wasn't bowled over. I ordered off the lunch menu, which offers meals for $10 and under. My chicken lunch special (which comes with saffron rice, bread and salad) was very satisfying though lacking in memorable flavor. The chicken was perfectly moist and the sauce wasn't overpowering. The salad would have been better with more deep greens, but I liked the tangy dressing. I found the flat-bread boring and I don't think you are suppose to serve it with butter. Even though I'm not Persian, I felt nostalgic eating such a warm / robust / earthy dish in such an elegant yet homey environment. (Yes, don't let the bland strip mall and cramped parking lot fool you. The interior of Kabob House, albeit very small, is attractive enough to bring a date to.) I believe the owner was the gentleman who took my order, conversed with regulars and tended to tables. Despite a serious expression on his face at all times, he came across as a nice man who strove to satisfy his customers. I appreciate seeing a family run operation like this.
