Love this place, one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago, hands down. It's huge bur still cozy bc it's filled with families, but always packed so sometimes a lil bit of a wait. The soup (ash reshteh) is so comforting and herby and delicious, the kashk bademjan is good if you like eggplant. Can't go wrong with any of the grilled meats, gormeh sabzi (if you like bitter/sour). We did the family platter for 3 with 4 people and had plenty of leftovers. Do NOT forget the saffron pistachio ice cream at the end, no matter how full you are, you will regret leaving without it. 08/15/24 - I had lunch w/a former co worker Tayfun @ a Kabobi Grill. He and I worked together @ OWPP Architects for several years. Even though I'm retired Tayfun has a firm and is still practicing architecture in Istanbul Turkey. The beauty is he still loves Chicago & still comes here several times a year while living & practicing architecture in Istanbul. My wife & I are planning a trip to Istanbul in the near future so this lunch had a duel purpose. It was great to see him to catch him & gather information on Istanbul. A good friend of mine recommended this place for good persian food. Welp... I should have listened to her sooner. This is a hidden gem in the city I believe it recently moved from a nearby location. We arrived about 15 minutes before the lunch specials were up and so we promptly ordered so that we could try a variety of different things. To start you do have to order at the counter however they will let you sit down and then come up in order so that was nice. Additionally they do not sell beer and wine in the restaurant, however you can bring your own and there is a small corkage fee ($6 bottle of wine & $1 for each beer). So BYOB. We weren't prepared for this so we had to go across the street to the local liquor store which had plenty of cold options to purchase. Onto the food my dish was the Chicken thigh Kabob and the Beef Koubideh Kabob. The beef koubideh kabob was a skewers of juicy, charbroiled, seasoned ground sirloin, served with grilled tomato. Everything was so flavorful. In addition to the meats my plate featured a cranberry rice (upcharge) cucumber salad, hummus and soft pita bread. My husband grabbed the chicken breast kabob with grilled veggies instead of rice. The food was plentiful and we were able to take some left overs home. We went here on my birthday and so it was a vibe but I really wish I would have some dessert as it looks really. All in all very nice lunch. I would definitely come back to try some more of the different entries and also I realize they have some dishes that are normally are hard to find: Baba Ghannouj, Dolmeh, Persian Salad and Falafel. I also peeped that they had this black persian tea that everyone was buying and I wish I would have purchased some of the raw tea leaves to go which they did have for sale. One of the best meals my boyfriend and I have had in ages and that's saying something bc we love good food. We got the multi kabob plate- with the filet mignon and ground beef and an Indian chicken dish with a side of labneh which was incredible. Such a nice and lively restaurant with very hospitable workers, they seem more like a family with how well everyone works together. The food comes in big portions so I recommend sharing, especially with the order I received which was the Lamb Biriyani. Only 4 stars because I do wish I had a balanced amount of lamb meat with the rice, as I was served a mountain of basmati with less than a hand full of meat. Next time i'll try their desserts after my meal because they always look so good behind the display case :) read more

My favorite place for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food in Chicago. Their lunch combinations are the best if you are able to get them in time. I usually go for the Daily Combination 4, which is chicken breast and lamb. The chicken is juicy and the lamb is spiced beautifully. The food is amazing. I get the chicken breast kebabs every time and they're so good, but don't be deceived. You think you're eating healthy and getting a lot of protein...they dip the skewers in butter. I gained a solid 10 lbs eating them almost every night for like 6 weeks. I still order it, still love it, but this is not food for cutting. If I were exacting and had one other slight complaint, it's the Pita. I ordered butter chicken, chicken biryani, and chicken koubideh for delivery. While on the phone I asked several clarifying questions. First, I asked whether the butter chicken was served with naan, and the representative said no, so I said I wanted a side of naan. Turns out, the butter chicken came with naan, and I was up charged for extra naan. Second, I asked if the falafel are fried fresh and the rep. said they are fried fresh daily. So I said, no thank you to the falafel. I was still given falafel and was charged for them. The falafel were cold and dodgy. The butter chicken was so watery and had no taste. The chicken biryani was alright. The chicken koubideh was good, but the rice with the added raisins was a very simple addition that was priced way too high. I would stick to the grilled options and share a plate with 3 people as the portions of rice are massive and just add extra protein if you want extra meat. read more

I love going to Kabobi Grill! I intentionally go out of my way to go here when I'm craving Persian food and I love their set up. You walk in and order at the counter, they give you a number, and you are led to a table and given water plates and eventually, your food. One of the coldest days in Chicago and I had a taste for Mediterranean food such as kabobs, hummus. Able to grab a metered spot nearby and slowly made my way towards a fully packed room of patrons who also enjoys food here. Menu is straight-forward as items are categorized as beef, chicken and so on. I like like simple ordering as beef and chicken kabob next to a river of dill rice. There is no wait staff to take your order as you are given a seat. You read the menu and walk up to the cashier and pay and they give you a number and the food will be delivered as they are ready and search for your number. Food is given to you on a 14" pizza tray with no nonsense. The meat is as tender as air and juicy, fresh off the grill. The rice is fluffy as how it should be. There is no service charge and that is how it should be for honest food at a decent price. I ordered hummus and I ran out of pita (which is piping hot when it arrives) I asked one of the many wait staff walking around and they gave me a refill for no extra cost. Unfortunately found a pretty long hair in my food, I am a guy with short hair. I took it back and one of the guys showed it to the chef and I saw them just laughing out loud. It was horrible. So had to give pretty low rating. They replaced the rice with hair and gave me the same kabobs back. Food tasted good but I have had better. First time here and definitely won't be my last! I met up with a friend here for dinner on a Sunday night and it was steadily packed all night long. They have a very large dining area and it's definitely a good space for not only couples but even large parties or families dining in. Their ordering process is unique in that they sit you first but when you're ready to order, you go up to the front area and then they give you a number. It's not a full service restaurant but the still bring the food to you, refill your water, bring you sauces, etc etc. Everything from the service (which was excellent - everyone was so friendly here) and to the amazing food was perfect. Per middle eastern friend's words, this place is legit Order at the front and they'll bring food to your table. Busy little restaurant with Persian staff. Kinda vintage looking. You know it's gonna be good. There's a dessert section with various Persian ice cream and sweets. We got the churro like dessert. Like an airy sugar coated churro and not too sweet. Great texture. Also had the honey pistachio (kinda tough but lots of pistachios and not too sweet) and coconut rice pudding (one of the best rice pudding I've had, the added coconut powder on top is on point!) Lunch menu is for individuals. Dinner menu plate size is for a big party. Saw the comments mentioned the size is big but still shocked in person. We only finished 1/3 of it. The value for the price is great! Lamb shank: you cannot miss it. Meat is super tender and fall of the bones directly. Great Middle Eastern flavor with lots of various spices. Great match with the dill rice and the nang ( which is so soft and fluffy!) Chicken biryani: was worried the chicken would be too dry like most mediocre Mediterranean food. If I could describe the experience of a visit to Kabobi Grill in just one word it would be: incredible. The food is just so delicious. They have a pretty extensive menu, and if I lived closer to Albany Park I'd probably be able to review nearly all of it by now. But on my one visit so far I tried the chicken koubideh and it was exceptional. Service was also good, and all the staff who helped me were kind and very courteous. It's also open late which is an added bonus if you need a tasty and filling meal late at night. read more

Only the complaint was I ordered lamb, kebabs, chicken, kebabs, and beef biryani while I was eating my boneless beef biryani, and boneless chicken kebabs. Why I just cut my mouth on the roof, biting into a big chunk of bone shard that was sharp and pointy. It was in the rice almost chipped. The tooth cut my go on the roof of the mouth. Well what can I say I had a craving for Kabobi and it's been so long since I had it and I did not know they relocated?The reason why they relocated on the Lawrence side is because it's much wider than their old location on Kedzie and they got more parking so they don't need to use valet parking. Service as usual was good. Note you have to order ahead They don't come to you and write down an order like a waiter,waitress or server. They give you a number post for your table wherever you sit just like in the old location which was something unique when my niece and her husband introduced me to this restaurant with the other family members. Hummus is always fresh as usual Pita bread is always delicious. The lentil soup is also fresh and delicious. The lamb kabob is what I crave for and of course their signature Persian Churros of honey is always the best. They even gave me a complimentary one which I didn't have to pay ahead of time because how I mentioned it's their signature dessert. Parking should be easier with the meter parking on the side of the side street instead of having valet parking. I recently tried Noon O Kabab, and felt that Kabobi Grill has them beat, by almost everything. Service, taste in food and price. While confusing at first, it went pretty smooth once we figure their system out. They walked us to our table and we patiently waited and no one ever took our order lol. I noticed everyone had numbers, so I got up and placed my order at Hr counter, received my number and sat back down. Shortly after, we received our food. My wife ordered their Chicken Koubideh with white rice. The chicken was so tender, juicy and flavorful. I really loved the chicken here and regretted not ordering it for myself. I'm more of a beef guy, but will definitely be ordering this chicken on my next visit. I ordered their Mixed Grill #1 and ordered their Lamb Koubideh and Beef Koubideh. These were also pretty good. Both the lamb and beef were very tender and flavorful. Not as good as the chicken but still very tasty. I also payed extra for dill rice. I had suggested to my wife that we should order an appetizer and share one of these entrees but once we sit down, I completely change my mind and end up ordering my own. The entrees here are very filling. The problem is that its so damn delicious, and I can't stop eating. Will definitely be returning very very soon. read more

When you first go in they ask if you want to eat in or take out. We went for dine in. So we got sat down in the dining room. When your ready to order you go to the front to place the order and pay. . I ordered the lamb kebab and filet mignon kebab with dill basmati rice. Also got the tomatoes lentil vegetarian soup. And some turkish coffee. . The kebab plate is big and the portion is alot. Easily split between 2 people. I loved the meat, it is so flavorful, temperature hot. The rice was fluffy and moist. Paired with my tomatoes lentil soup is perfect pairing. . I had a good dinner with my friends. I'm so grateful to have a friend to show me their favorite neighborhood eats. I am glad I got to try something authentic. . Turkish coffee is served in a little ladle copper shot . The turkish coffee is small but strong and flavorful. . Overall I really like the food. The service is great and on it. Kabobi Grill has Superb food, in comparison to Noon O Kabab or OG Reza's. The salmon is so moist and tender, as it sits on a very well seasoned pile of dill rice that has been made generously with buttah. The steak and chicken kabobs also come out hot, tender and juicy. There could be more grilled tomatoes and onions but that's fine. There's also a thin lining of bread that separates the meal from the steel plate, I really like that too. There's so much rice and protein that you will definitely have left overs. It's BYOB here but not during Ramadan. I do have to try the Turkish delight sweets next time. There's street pahking and the bay windows open up during nicer weather. This place gets really busy so try to be the first ones here for a peaceful meal. This my first time here. It is street metered parking. The max for the meter is 2 hrs. I'm a little torn. The service was top notch. There was always someone around if you need something. We had a large table so we gave the waiter the list of the orders once everyone arrived. It's very loud and hard to have conversations at the table. It was an open room with lotz of tables. Big parties with reserved tables. All the food for our table came out together. So it was good to eat at the same time. I had the mixed grill #1 with lamb koubedih and beef koubedih. I asked for the basmati rice. The food arrived on a platter. There was lavash underneath everything. I was wanting more seasoning on the meats. It was tender and I dipped it in the red sauce. I may have to try it again. But I did go to the place across the way and thought that was more flavorful. But Mediterranean food is like for me. So I wouldn't mind giving it another try. read more

I find that most Mediterranean or Middle Eastern-esque restaurants that most people end up going to in the city tend to be trendy, upscale, and usually not worth the money. Kabobi kicks those stereotypes away by providing an amazing, small family business type experience to provide an exceptional food experience for its customers. The format of the restaurant can be either fast casual or typical sit in as you order at the counter and they bring you food. Even though we opted to order at the counter the waiters still provide exceptional service as they kept coming to us to accommodate our needs. Food? 10/10. You can't go wrong with any of the hummus or dips and the sheer volume they provide you will give you leftovers for the next few meals. The prices are super affordable and it's super filling and hearty. The food was delicious! From the hummus, babaganoush, salad and bread! There were 6 of us eating and it was enough food for all of us. I'm not sure if they offer it, but Tzatziki sauce would have made the meal complete. We ordered the lamb shank and we devoured it before I could take a pic. It was that good.
