Service is horrible. Tony, at least that's what I thought I saw on his name tag, our server, came by once and asked, "What do you want to drink?" We waited for about 15 minutes before he came back. At this time there were about 8 tables occupied, well below half of the restaurant. He came by, out of peripheral vision and loudly said, "Ready?" Not aware he was talking to us, I turned almost behind me, and he was standing by the next booth. I told him I was ready, but my family had just went to the bathroom. Before finishing my sentence, he had already started walking away. Probably another 10 minutes, same thing, except he stood by our table. "Ready?!" He again said loudly and rudely. A family member ordered, he stayed quiet and just stared at us. Someone had a question about an item and he just said, "whatever it says on the menu." Like dude, if you don't want to be here and be helpful to people, go home. We finally get our order in, our water cups are empty. He eventually comes over when one of the orders is ready, says the name of the item, leaves it at the end of the table and leaves. He does this with every order. My family and I need water but this guy clearly doesn't care to be aware of people. Even a son who took his mom out for lunch was fed up at the next table. He started saying, "Excuse me" louder and raised his hand to get the servers attention. Our server didn't return to our table until he dropped off the check. I'll take my family an hour away to Sawtelle instead of dealing with the lack of service here. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Got here just in time for happy hour. Service was great I just didn't know his name. He had a good side area to service and he was working it and checking on his customers. A great vibe, Mica music was perfect! Food was excellent. I always enjoy the sushi here. The fish is always very fresh, and the other foods aside from sushi are also always superb. I love the deep fried ice cream and tempura from here. The deep fried icecream is not at most other sushi places, but it is delicious with a crunchy exterior, a pound cake like layer also wrapped around the icecream ball. But the thing that gets me the most and what would allow me to overlook these things is customer service. But the thing about this place is the customer service is even worse. So for this latest review... wanted to do a family holiday dinner..cousin was calling around. She said she called kabuki and they took her reservation for 10 people at 4pm. This was a week ago. Come today we show up at the restaurant and they tell us its going to be an hour wait!! I understand delays.. but an hour means you never actually took our reservation. And come to find out..they didnt. They had my cousins name down but said they cant actually "reserve" it because they dont take reservations. Well that should have been made clear when my cousin called unless you purposely wanted to trick you to showing up and staying. Which makes it even worse that you would purposely do this to a group of people especially during the holidays. So this is my final straw. Not only will I never give you my business. I will also tell anyone who mentions this place my experiences and tell them I recommend going elsewhere. Maybe if you get new management and staff that cares I will give it another go. I truly hope I am the only one for some reason having these bad experiences because I would never wish this stress, anguish amd disappointment on anyone. 8/16/24 PERFECT way to end the work week, the best choice for Friday dinner! Again, I am surprised I have not dropped a review for Kabuki. Hubby & I have dined here before. It was a loooonnnggg work week & we both decided to dine out. We threw some options in the air& ended at Kabuki. It was close to 10 pm on a Friday & so many places were closed already. We appreciate that this location closes at 11 pm, and to our surprise, Happy Hour starts late today, it's either 8:30 or 9 pm til closing. Please see photo). I've come here twice for a family dinner and it's been quite disappointing each time. While the space looks new and modern, the service isn't great, and it takes 10+ min for a refill on water each time. The last time, the waiter took our cup to refill it and never returned. We had to get the check from a different waiter too. There were maybe 5 tables but it was so hard to find anyone to get help. As for the food, I think the rolls are usually your best bet! I wouldn't get the mixed tempura, the batter was plain and there wasnt any sauce to dip it in. The gyoza was also dripping in oil. We got these rolls: sunkissed roll, truffle yellow tail roll, and the unagi roll, which were pretty good! I would also recommend the sashimi salad and the poke bowl. read more
