I've been to the other Garlic & Chives location before, so I came in with high expectations and this Artesia location absolutely delivered. I ordered the rotisserie chicken along with the Bo Ne (the sizzling skillet with eggs and filet mignon), and wow... that combination was ridiculously good. The meat was tender, flavorful, and perfect for dipping into their amazing sauces. And speaking of essentials, whenever they ask how many baguettes I want, the answer is always two. One is simply not enough. The bread paired with their spicy chili oil sauce is next-level delicious. Their Thai tea is consistently amazing too. I've had it at both locations, and it's always rich, refreshing, and the perfect complement to the meal. What really makes Garlic & Chives stand out, though, is the service. The interior of the place is beautiful with really nice ambiance. I went with a group and we were greeted by the owner and head chef. She's very sweet. We had a couple things : the corn cheese plate which came hot and melty. It was really savory tasting and was not just one note the way others tend to be. If you like corn and cheese it's hard to say no to. We had also a salmon spring roll which was DELICIOUS along with the salmon belly. The sauce was sweet and complimented the roll well. We ordered the toothpick lamb dish as well which was so good. No funk and no musk which I'm very sensitive to. I tend to avoid lamb all together but actually really liked this. I only ordered a couple items for the NFL DRAFT but very flavorful food. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the gal who helped me was super nice. There's also a pretty decent bar there. I just wanted something to gnaw on with my beer chaser. The Crispy Chicken wings were delicious and super crispy. I also had to get the Garlic Noodles with SHRIMP. They were huge. Spacious restaurant with pretty easy eats. Went for a workday lunch. There's plenty of parking in the plaza and we were the first ones in the restaurant (came around when it opened). There's quite a few things on the menu, including some all-day specials. However, heard the better dishes are not from that menu, so opted for some appetizers and an entree. Ordered the salmon belly spring rolls and pork spring rolls. We also ordered the pork clay pot. Spring rolls came first - they were both well made and tasty. The sauces match great with them. I preferred the salmon belly spring roll but that's all relative - both were good. The clay pot dish came shortly afterwards. The rice was nice and crispy from the rice pot and went well with the pork belly pieces in the other pot. The sauce was on point - was worried it would be salty, but wasn't. Price point was decent. This Garlic and Chives is so much better than the one in Garden Grove and has many more decorations upon entering. We tried their special garlic crab, which is seasonally priced, along with shaken beef, egg rolls, spring rolls, garlic noodles with prawns and drinks. Located by a shopping center. This restaurant is able to accommodate large groups for any occasion. The food is so delicious. Each plate is very pleasing to the eye. For my birthday I decided I wanted to go back with the whole family husband, kids, daughter in laws and grandchildren. Once again great food great service. We went on a Sunday at 1:30 and was seated right away. We were actually the only ones there and they gave us their full attention. Love the ambiance and lovely details of the decors and they also have a private room nicely decorated with a chandelier for special occasions. I inquired and they had a $600 consumable for 2 hours to reserve and it fits like 20 on this gorgeous long wooden table but they said the room can accomodate more. Food was really good and our fave was the mango pomelo salad. I also love the crispy noodles ghat came with yummy sauce and lots of veggies and meat on it. Actually everything was good. I've been here before and have not really been wowed by the food. I came back to see if anything might have changed for the better. There were only two tables occupied when our family & I arrived for 7 pm dinner, but no one was out front to welcome us at all. It seemed like that was a harbinger of how the rest of the evening's dinner was going to be. We got several dishes , although mostly they were just shy of being mediocre to forgettable. They have a lot of dishes on the regular menu plus an all day specials menu. We got dishes from both menus. Chicken pho was so salty, and the chicken thigh slices were not tender. Braised vegetables was the usual mix of cauliflower, broccoli , carrots and some bokchoy. Fried crispy tofu was crispy but bland , even with the garlic and chives sprinkled over it and the sweet chili dipping sauce. Whole fried flounder with mango strips was smaller than I've had elsewhere. The sauce was exactly the same as the tofu except with shredded mango added. Grilled spareribs in lemongrass marinade did not really taste like it. Although it was tender. Rice was included and served in a hot metal pot that gave it a crispy crust, I prefer my rice to be soft. The decorative motif is also bordering on overly floral that it's almost tacky. We ordered their famous corn cheese as an appetizer, then the claypot pork spare ribs, walnut shrimp, and garlic fried rice for our mains. Lychee martini- Sweet and refreshing with a good amount of alcohol. I felt my drink after a few minutes and enjoyed eating the garnish lychee at the end. Corn cheese- This has got to be the best version of this dish I've ever had. Perfectly buttery and cheesy and practically melts in the mouth. Has a hint of sweetness to it as well. Walnut shrimp- Engulfed in a signature sweet and savory sauce, the shrimp has a nice crunch outside and soft inside. The walnuts add an extra depth of texture. Claypot pork spare ribs- The meat is perfectly tender and the caramelized sauce is delicious and pairs well with rice. Served with a side of vietnamese kimchi that was nice and crunchy with a sweet-tangy taste. Garlic and Chives' original location in Garden Grove was in the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand selection in 2021 for its quality and value. It was recommended by Jonathan Gold in the LA Times as one of LA's top 100 restaurants. Nevertheless, I actually feel that this location is underrated. It's one of my favorite spots to eat in this area for Vietnamese food and it's usually easy to get a seat. These are my go to dishes: 1) Toothpick lamb: This lamb appetizer offers flavorful meat that's cumin forward without being too gamey. It's tender and delicious with plenty of garlic and cilantro. 2) Egg rolls: I love eating their eggrolls wrapped in generous amounts of lettuce and herbs. Wrapping it with fresh herbs and veggies gives a freshness that is really nice. 3) Salt and Pepper Shrimp. This is my favorite dish at this restaurant. The shrimp is nicely fried and the skin is carefully butterflied back. You get a garlicky and perfectly cooked shrimp, and you could eat the skin of the shrimp like a salty and peppery chip. You can't miss this dish. 4) Beef loc lac: Eating tender steak stir fried with peppers, onions, and garlic with a garlic fried rice is my ultimate comfort food. This is a fair rendition of this dish. Garlic and Chives and Vietnamese food, in general, are incredibly underrated. If you order these dishes, then you will be able to eat some flavor bombs. I appreciate that they take reservations though! They have both booth and table seating. It looks like they would be able to accommodate larger parties as well. The menu here is Vietnamese/Asian fusion focused, and it's pretty extensive! They have several noodle dishes, clay pots, seafood, meat entrees, hot pot, soups, and salads. The prices are... pricey, but given the restaurant's pedigree, I guess it's justified. The food portions are generous and every dish was good. We have no complaints about the food! And those chicken wings *chefs kiss* damn, they were good. The only odd thing was the service and ambiance. We were 1 of 3 tables during what was a typical lunch hour, so that was kind of depressing. Music was kept low, as if they had just opened (or closing). Our server was nice, if not a bit inattentive. We had to ask for water more than once, for the same refill. And it appeared to be one of those manager acting as server type situations? I'm not sure, but maybe it's a sign of the times. Restaurants be struggling y'all; support your local stores!! There's plenty of parking in the plaza but can get very busy as there are other popular restaurants. They're able to accommodate big parties but need some slight work on service. Our waiter had to double check on our order a few times and make sure we didn't have any peanuts as we had allergies. Of all the dishes we ordered, the shaken beef with sauce was one of the best along with the chicken wings. We were really there to try the scallops, razor clam and snails. The scallops were overcooked, razor clams needed some additional sauce and snails were super big. The bigger the chewier and the smaller they were, the juicier. Dish had a good amount of heat, but was not overpowering. Rice porridge was a perfect option for a cold day. Very warm and comforting. Service was very friendly and food was cooked fresh to order.
