Last week, after a graduation ceremony, our group of 28 came here for dinner. We were honestly worried that there wouldn't be enough seating for such a large party, but the host Sean went above and beyond to accommodate us and managed to arrange tables for everyone. We were able to enjoy a meaningful and memorable meal together. Of course, both the food and service took a little longer than usual because of the size of our group, but that was completely understandable. What impressed us most was that Sean continued checking on our tables throughout the evening to make sure everything was going smoothly. Ready for the check, you don't even have to ask... it's here. The combos come with an amazing amount of food. Sure, the tofu pot is A LITTLE smaller, but only by 2-3 bites and you get to pick a meat or vegetable side big enough to share! The quality of their food is inconsistent. My partner and I share a combo but some days, his spicy pork comes out cold or just warm, but when it's good, it's good. Their soups are good most of the time, the spiciest level is very spicy, which I like. Their seafood pancake is great to share with seafood lovers! You get a piece of seafood in each bite and it's great appetizer. The service is also a hit or miss. When it's slow, they will come with the side dish refill carts. Dirtiest restaurant I've been to. They need to train the busboys how they practice from cleaning up the dirty table to setting up the table. I've been observing the 2 busboys how they've done it. Let's start from the busboy cart, they should only place all the dirty dishes and all the trash on this cart right? But i was surprised that the first shelf has all the dirty dishes, under that cart has their clean papermat, napkins, chopstick and spoon and on the side of this cart is the dirty garbage can attached to the cart. When the busboy cleans the dirty tables of the restaurant, they don't use gloves, they touch all the dirty dishes and trash and place it on the dirty cart where they also get all the tableware for the next customers. They also has the same dirty towel to clean the dirty table without any sanitizing spraying solution, they are just spreading the dirt and bacteria on the table. It is very disgusting while I observe because they did it on all the tables each time the customer leaves. I don't know how they passed the examination for health inspection but this restaurant needs to think about customer's safety and cross contamination. You're busboy is touching the new set of napkins and tableware that we use to wipe our mouth and for eating. Very unhygienic and disgusting. I talked to Catherine (the host) but she did not apologized for their bad practice and denied everything but good thing the busboy came infront of us and I told Catherine to observe what the busboy was doing, and right in front of her, she saw all the disgusting ways the busboy does and she just told me that she'll just talk to the manager, she did not bother to apologize nor talk to the busboy. I've come to this BCD location multiple times with my boyfriend and have had a great experience everytime. In my opinion, this place is better than the Irvine location in terms of food quality and the welcoming atmosphere. The freshness and high quality of the side dishes (especially the cucumber kimchi and potato salad) and the tofu soup (my favorite is a childhood nostalgia, the ham and sausage, and is filled to the brim with tofu) is always such a hit, especially when I'm craving something warm. My partner also has enjoyed the dolsot bibimbap, the spicy pork, and the kimchi beef soon tofu. My favorite thing to do is not eat the rice directly with the tofu soup, but have it with the hot barley tea poured into the rice stone pot (as requested). My boyfriend tried that for the first time on our most recent visit and really enjoyed it as well. Additionally, the service is great here. They fill up the side dishes frequently as requested and make sure your water and tea are topped up. In particular, I really like a worker named Julie, who is hilarious and also makes sure to thoroughly top up whatever side dishes my partner and I request. Went out for a dinner of 4 on a Saturday night. The line was long but the turnover is quite fast so we got seated not long after we joined the wait-list. We all order different things off the combo list, which came with a soft tofu soup each. We were also served a fried small mackerel as an appetizer. The fish was a little bony as mackerel tends to be, especially when you're frying the whole fish, but the taste was great. The rice served in the hot stone was fluffy and of the perfect consistency. I already had one small mackerel as an appetizer so I wish I would have chosen a different entree rather than a larger mackerel, but it was still good. I really enjoyed my tofu soup. It even came with a raw egg to crack inside so that this soup could cook it. This hot stone keeps it blazing hot the whole time you're sitting there. And the banchan was definitely flowing. They refilled it multiple times so we definitely felt like we got our fill of kimchi, potato salad, cucumbers, and other pickled veggies. There are a lot of vegetable and vegan options here so it's great if you have some of those in your crowd. Not the fanciest place, but we were well fed and the quality of everything was nice. My friend and I came back from Vegas after EDC weekend exhausted and starving, and we were honestly so excited to eat here after the long trip home. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I've had at a BCD Tofu location. Right away, one of our rice bowls never came out. We mentioned it to our server and she said she'd bring it over, but she never did. We kept waiting while everyone else was already eating. Then came the part that honestly grossed all of us out. We had stacked all of our dirty side dish plates together to help clear space on the table. When we asked for refills on the banchan, instead of bringing fresh plates, the server literally unstacked the dirty used plates from the pile and started refilling those same dirty plates. That felt extremely unsanitary and honestly like something a health inspector or corporate would not be okay with at all. To make things worse, when we asked for a water refill, the server spilled water all over my Crocs and socks. Accidents happen, but there was barely any apology or urgency after it happened. The floor was also super dirty and the entire restaurant just felt poorly maintained. Between the careless service, lack of cleanliness, and unsanitary handling of dishes, this location seriously needs improvement. Not sure when this started, but this is the first time I've seen a banchan cart going around at BCD! Someone goes around pushing a cart of banchan containers on ice asking if you want refills of kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cake, bean sprouts, potato salad, and preserved squid. It's great! The kimchi was a little inconsistent during this particular visit (e.g. the first batch was very bland, but the second batch was super salty), but the other side dishes made up for it. They still have some of the best fish cake around! Their fried fish appetizer is always good, and I look forward to it whenever I come to BCD. The Dumpling Soon Tofu is always my go-to. They give several smaller dumplings in the soup rather than a few large ones, which I prefer! The soon tofu always comes out piping hot and delicious. The menu says that you get an egg by request only, but our server made it seem like it's always included. Either way, ask for one just in case because the egg make the soon tofu even better! Their Seafood Pancake is also good, nice and crispy! I like it has a decent amount of seafood, including shrimp, squid, and mussels (which I haven't seen in other restaurants' seafood pancakes!). Expect it to be a bit slower when they're busy, but from my many experiences here, they're usually pretty good regardless of how busy it is. Expect it to be a loud environment. Plenty of seats but when it's busy (read: weekends and nights) expect it to be a bit packed. They usually play kpop on the speakers, ranging in generations, which is great. Parking can be tough - it's shared with the plaza with plenty of other businesses and restaurants, but even if you're parking "far" it's still not that far of a walk. You get unlimited side dishes. My friend devoured a bunch of fish cakes which made her full before her meal came out. Then tofu soup and entrees were served hot in stone bowls. I love to get their combo plates, which comes with an entree, spicy tofu soup, rice, and unlimited side dishes (banchan). Usually I'll get a bibimbap in hot stone pot, which gives you crispy rice with meat and veggies. When you mix it together, you get a fresh rice dish that's one of my all-time favorites. Let the rice sit in the sizzling hot pot for a few minutes, so you get a bunch of crispy bits. Their tofu soup is extremely comforting and it's their signature item. I like to get it either "medium spicy" or "spicy" as it's perfect on a cold day. It's the type of comforting dish that warms you from the inside out. Their galbi is also a favorite of ours as it's perfectly marinated and consistently delicious. I typically have to pay $50 if I get it at a korean BBQ spot, but I love the reasonable portion in their $33 dinner combo (that includes the soup, rice, and all the sides). read more

I ordered the Dumpling Tofu Soup with Mild spice. Every order comes with banchan such as kimchi, cucumber, fish cake, and a fried fish. It also comes with a bowl of rice that the servers scoop out for you and a raw egg to crack into the tofu soup. Our food came out quickly and was bubbling. We cracked our eggs into our soups and let them cook. My soup had five dumplings that reminded me of the mini Bibigo wontons that can be purchased from Costco. I don't remember these were always used for the tofu soup. The soup was kind of bland, but not sure if that's because I chose Mild spice. There was plenty of tofu. Our sides got refilled during our meal which was nice. Overall, giving BCD Tofu House a 4/5. Service was good and staff are friendly. Sometimes, I add on the seafood pancake when I'm feeling extra hungry. The sides are so yummy and the plus is that they are refillable too! Cucumbers, fish cakes, and kimchi are my favorites! Service is great for the most part-- although there are times when I have to chase down the waiters to ask for refills on sides. Ambiance is also nice as they have a pretty modern aesthetic. I come here literally every week because the food is good and most of the staff are nice. My only complaint is the older lady that always wears black (I think she's the manager?) The first time she was rude, I ignored it. Second time, okay maybe she's having a bad day. Third time? Nah. At that point it's just her attitude. She's always so unapproachable and acts annoyed whenever you need something. It honestly feels like you're bothering her just by asking a question. Won't be back. Wish I got a refund for having a dead caterpillar in my food instead of leaving a review but oh well. And wouldn't have left this review if they admitted to it & apologized... instead of lying to our face. Do vegetables have legs now? Met a friend here for dinner around 610pm. I wasn't surprised at how packed the place was since 6pm is dinner time for most. We got seated within 5-10 minutes, but everything was so slow. But, beyond the slowness which wasn't the worst thing, the food was a huge miss tonight. Someone also ordered a stone pot bibimbap which took a bit longer, so keep that in mind. Banchan tasted great especially the kimchi and grilled fish. The waitstaff were constantly running around with people flagging them down. I decided to get the S8 Ham and Sausage, where in the past I'd just get Combination. My favorite BCD location in OC! Whenever I'm craving gopchang (beef intestine) soon tofu soup, this is my go-to spot and I love the side dishes here. The fish cake, cucumber kimchi, and seasoned squid banchan are always fresh and flavorful. The place is clean, spacious, and the staff is super friendly. Special shoutout to Kelly 이모! She was so nice and took the time to explain the menu and combos to us. We really enjoyed our lunch! We ordered one Spicy Raw Crab Combo and one regular. The spicy crab was fresh, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of sauce, and paired perfectly with fluffy rice. I always choose spicy crab over galbi! For the finale, try the nurungji with seasoned squid! This location is inside a plaza with plenty of parking. I went on a weekday, so I'm not sure how busy it gets on weekends, but there were tons of parking during the week. Highly recommend! read more

BCD Tofu House This is a review for my dinner dining experience at BCD Tofu House. Food: 4.5/5 Service 2/5 LOCATION: It is located in a small plaza on South Street. Parking can be difficult because there are so many shops in the area. FOOD: The food was delicious! Every plate we ordered was seasoned well and tasted excellent. There are different types of dishes. With the Entree Combo it comes with your own: -Fried Mackerel -Hot Stone Rice -Soup selection: I recommend the seafood tofu soup -Side Dishes: kimchi, fish cake, bean sprouts, mashed potatoes, cucumbers, stir fried small anchovies (all to share for the table). For the entree combos we ordered beef bulgogi, bibimbap, and chicken teriyaki -All were tasty,especially the chicken teriyaki! ---- SIDES: Seafood pancake Fried garlic tofu SERVICE: Unfortunately the service didn't do it for me. We were a party of 4 and we each ordered an entree combo. Therefore, we were supposed to get 4 hot stone rice pots. We only received 1. Our entrees also came at different times. The bibimbap was first, then we waited 20 minutes for the beef bulgogi, then an additional 20 minutes for the chicken teriyaki. It's frustrating because you would expect all of the hot entrees to be served at the same time and not staggered. To be polite, one party member tried waiting for the rest of the entrees to come to the table so we can all dine together but this wasn't the case. We had to wait an additional half an hour for the chicken teriyaki to be delivered to the table while the other entrees were already served. Unfortunately some of us ended up getting full waiting and snacking on the appetizers and side dishes and didn't get to fully enjoy our entrees. Another huge dealbreaker for our group was the fact that we had to ask three different servers for water refills. The first two people looked at us blankly and kept walking by. It wasn't until I literally stopped a person bussing a table when we finally got our glasses refilled with water. Wow. It was shocking. No server came to check on us, no one came to see if our food was alright. In fact, WE were the ones who had to remind them that our banchan needed to be refilled and that we were STILL missing our entrees and needed water refills. ****FRIENDLY SUGGESTIONS: -Have a pitcher of water and cups at the table before seating a party -Have designated staff to fill the side dishes for every table -Have a strong expo "expeditor" in the kitchen to help manage the timing of delivering items to the table ***I would eat at BCD Tofu House again, but I would dine in during lunch or at a time when it's not busy. Again, I want to state that the food is delicious. They have high quality dishes with great flavor, but the service needs work. read more

Ah, out of K-town but still busy! Food is pretty consistent with the original location. The prices continue to increase, as dinner combo prices are in the lower 30s now. They no longer hand you the egg with your soondubu but it is by request. Highly recommend the spicy raw marinated crab combo or the galbi combo. read more
