Absolutely delicious, fresh and well seasoned food. Came with a group of 6 on a Sunday night, was immediately seated and served by the very hospitable Rafi. Everything came out fast, we enjoyed romantic flame and black teas, and the dessert firnee pudding (a milky, aromatic custard topped with ground pistachio) was amazing. Going to Kabul Grill was just like going to Kabul. We had a heavenly mixed grill of unctuous marinated beef kebab, sublimely roasted chicken morsels and perfectly anointed minced meat skewers. The rice was like your Afghani grannie makes it. A rosewater scented yoghurt-like dessert was the fabulous finale accompanied by cardamon tea. Second time here. Compared to Turkish and Persian food, Afghan is tastier, less oil, more charcoal grilled flavor, more saffron. Jujeh was scrumptious, brown basmatti rice was unusual for us, Kubala was less sweet, more savory than others, went better with food, zareshk was too. Nan and furniture was like Indian, but no melted butter on nan, and no rose water in furniture, both of which was preferable for us. My family has been going here for almost 20 years. The food is pretty good, the Sultan Combo has been a go to for a long time. However, the customer service and ambiance need work. The place is a mood killer it's like going to dinner at the Library. Also, the customer service could be better. Finally, they will close the "dine in" arbitrarily and turn you away if and when they feel like it. Last time we went there they closed the dining room 2 hours before closing time. It would be nice if they put that info up especially if you are taking the trek to go there. This by far is the best afghani kabob/ barbecue place. Most people say Helmand's in Baltimore or Boston... trust me. They pale in comparison. The lambchops are superb and the Cornish hens are the best I ever had. For those that are not familiar to Afghani or near East cuisine, the meat is usually cooked well done. It is the carmelization of the meat and spices that give it the flavor profile. This is not a steak place. If you decide to eat here, do the following: 1) order the lamb chops and Cornish hen spicy 2) get the brown rice (not the white rice)... amazing flavor 3) when eating the rice combine it with the onions, white sauce, and the red sauce or the green sauce 4) never mix the green and red sauce read more

What a lovely place. I ordered a lamb kebob to go. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. While I was waiting I had a delicious cup of green tea. The food did not take long and I was quite pleased with it once I got home. The lamb was tasty and very tender. There was a huge portion of rice served with the meal. A staple in the hicksville/plainview Area. Family owned restaurant. We've been coming here for years. The service and the food are like no other place we go to. My family and I can eat here 10x a month and still crave it the next day. BYOB is another added touch which makes this a very popular spot. The family is super friendly and they always remember our orders. I usually stick with the lamb chops and barg combo over brown rice but I've tried other things and nothing has ever disappointed me. This is my go to spot whenever I'm craving fancier Afghan food. Lol. They are near my home so why not? I love everything on the menu and I've been coming here for years. I came with my friend recently and had their delectable kadu/pumpkin appetizer which is so healthy and so good. Their mantoo is great and the rice is always done right. I love the old Afghan ghazal music they play which is very representative of their identity creating a very appropriate and harmonious ambiance. I just hate it when I enter a Middle Eastern restaurant and they are playing the same crap that's on the radio. Anyway - the samosas and bolani here are on point!!! The food here is delicious! I haven't been here in years and found out that it us under new ownership - the original couple I would see retired! However, the new family is just as great! The two daughters were there and they were adorable! I give those two young girls so much respect for running the whole place on their own! They were always smiling, so friendly, and always happy! The food was also really good! The chicken kebabs were cooked really well and very flavorful. The rice was also not too oily or greasy. I also liked how the salad portions were a decent size and already had white sauce on top of them! The white sauce was also very good! Food was amazing!! Me and my family went here for iftar and we all were extremely satisfied. The portions were perfect. Definitely a place I will be visiting again. On top of that we got on of the best services in a long time. A young lady was our waitress and for her age her service was beyond outstanding.
