We've gone here several times so depends on who you have as your chef as to whether or not you have a good time or not. We've gone a few times and had an awesome time and then we've Gone other times and it was pretty lame. Food is good. They need some more flavor in the noodles though. I've been trying to get in this place for the last year, but it's always a long wait. Finally went on a Saturday and was able to get in... we sat at the bar. I ordered the famous scorpion bowl. It was okay, very strong. It was happy hour until 6:00, which was cool. We ordered the wings and pot stickers. The wings were very small and the pot stickers was okay. They didn't have a big entree menu, so I ordered shrimp teriyaki and fried rice. The entree came with a small salad that had a peanut butter sauce. The peanut butter was very strong, but okay. The rice was not fried, it was just brown and the shrimp came out with a large amount of onions. The shrimp was okay, but there was way too many onions. The bartender was short and to the point. I guess he was too busy worrying about the ladies at the other end. Overall for this place to always be so crowded and have a long wait,it was okay. Decor nice, food mediocre, staff mediocre. Ordered the lasagna roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. The spicy tuna hand roll was delicious only missing some cucumber but overall it was very tasty. The lasagna roll was quite a disappointment when I got home to eat it all the avocado in the roll was brown like it wasn't fresh like it had been sitting for awhile. Let me start by saying we have frequented Kabuto many times in the past and very much enjoyed. This time was very disappointing.. We came in at 8:30 after our son's graduation. We sat down and were told to order right now. We had until 840 To order if we don't we will not be able to eat because they will close the register. We quickly scan the menu and ordered for the table of four. Our $160 worth of sushi came quickly and thrown together. We were told that we cannot order dessert it was too late. At this time it was 9 o'clock. The check was dropped off at our table and the waitress walked by four times wanting to take it. Came in today for a birthday dinner and was given about a 20 minute wait. Left and came back to wait indoors and was yelled at by a very unpleasant man at the front desk. Asked was it an issue waiting and was rudely told to go outside or sit at the bar. Totally understand restrictions due to covid and don't mind complying. Only asked because there was no signage indicating waiting prohibited and on my countless trips since they've re-opened people have waited indoors. The yelling was very off putting. I rarely give 5 stars, but I just want to say ... wow! The atmosphere, the service, the food, its all stellar. I just moved to the area from downtown Philadelphia and was worried about the restaurant situation. I left behind some of the best food in the country to live in a so-so suburb of Baltimore. I was pleasantly surprised to see this place only 5 minutes from my house while driving down 40. Based on its location I went in pretty skeptical and expected to be unhappy. Boy was I wrong. First up is the atmosphere. From the time you step in the front door you're transported from Pulaski Highway to a fun, downtown restaurant. The decor is sleek and modern without being pretentious. There are cool lighting and design elements that give it a pop without making the place seem too swanky to come enjoy in jeans and a (nice) t-shirt. They nod to the Japanese cuisine with the water feature and some of the art, but its not tacky and cheap like most Asian restaurants. It all flows very well. Whoever designed the restaurant really knew what they were doing. The service was equal to the atmosphere. I was greeted by an amusing old man (owner maybe?). He was quirky and funny without being annoying. The hostess he was with asked if were were doing hibachi or just ordering, then offered us a table or the bar when we said we were just doing sushi. If you're going with just a couple I recommend the bar! The cool underlit marble and watching the sushi chefs was a nice touch. Our server was the bartender for the whole restaurant and the server/busser for the bar. We went in around 6pm on New Year's Day, so I guess they had less staff than normal. Our server seemed pretty overworked but handled it brilliantly. She was quick but never seemed frazzled or stressed. Always really polite, helpful and professional. The food was equal to any place I've ever been in any city. We started with a complimentary dish. I'm not sure what it was, but it was two bundles wrapped in a piece of fish. The first was a bundle of cucumber sticks wrapped in some sort of white fish, and the second was a bundle of mango stick wrapped in a piece of salmon. They both had the same sauce on them. Whatever this dish was is awesome. Really well balanced and the flavors really worked well together. We also got pork gyoza, which was pretty on par for gyoza. It was cooked well, not too heavy, but otherwise like gyoza you would get at any quality Asian restaurant. The miso soup was above average with a great balance of flavors. The maki is where they knocked it out of the park. We got 4 standard rolls and 1 of their premium rolls. The 4 standards were Spicy Tuna, Philly, Boston and Miami. They were exactly what you would expect, but done really well with really fresh fish and good ratio of ingredients. The star however was the Volcano roll we ordered. I don't even remember all that was on it. I know it has crab, but there was a ton more going on. Whatever was in it, it was perfectly executed. Nothing was too heavy or too light and it all just worked flawlessly together for a great bite of food. When we go back I'm going to try some more of their specialty rolls. They had maybe 10 to choose from, and if they're all as good as the Volcano, I'm going to be in heaven. To top it all off the price was much less than you would get that level of food at a trendy downtown spot. Our final bill was only $50 for all that food. I will definitely be back with a group to try the hibachi. I hope it is as good and fun as the sushi was! read more

I'd give this place a 5 star rating except for one thing: the service. I've read many other reviews and everyone has basically agreed: the service is terrible. There's maybe 30 people here, and it's awful. That being said, everything else is fantastic. The food is amazing and very well priced. I stuck with sushi, which was very fresh and presented beautifully. Edamame as an app was steamed perfect and lightly salted. Specialty cocktails were great; perfect amount of alcohol. Not too much, but not so little that you couldn't taste it. The ambiance is GORGEOUS. Considering it's location, it has a very posh lounge feel to it. Very different and cool. I'd 100% recommend this place AS LONG AS. You come during non-peak hours. Otherwise, expect to wait, and/or have a completely confused server. read more

We celebrated a family member's birthday here yesterday. We arrived at 4pm and quickly were seated as they had just opened. No reservations allowed currently. The restaurant quickly filled. Prices were slightly higher than posted here but there was also no upcharge for fried rice either so it was a wash. Also they are definitely cheaper than some others nearby. We had some special requests which were handled nicely (some didn't want a lot of spice). I ordered the Emperors feast which for the money was delicious. Filet and scallops were exquisite. Shrimp also delicious and larger than you usually get at their competition. Only slight knock was they yum yum sauce (everyone's favourite) was runny in consistency. It tasted good but didn't stick well to the food and dripped easily on my shirt lol. Maybe just a bad batch? Overall we were very pleased and definitely would return. read more

I came to Kabuto for the first time on a Friday night at around 6:30 pm. My friend and I ate at the bar (which is very nicely decorated.) It was not busy so we had no wait. The service was great. We had the owner, manager, sushi chefs waiting on us before we could ask for something they were on it. Before we ordered the sushi chefs made us a complimentary sushi which was some combo of warmed cream cheese, crab, rice, seaweed, roe, and three different sauces. YUM!! For dinner I ordered the vegetable goyza and a spicy tuna roll. The goyza was good but fried and I usually get it steamed. Completely my fault for not reading and talking with my BFF instead. The spicy tuna was good. My friend got two different kinds of sushi and a miso. I think she got the Dynamite roll and maybe a Philly roll. She loved her sushi and it came decorated with a blue volcano light decoration on the plate very cute. We overall had a wonderful night out and will be making this our monthly BBF dinner night out. The ONLY reason I can't give it a 5 star is because it is a Japanese Steakhouse and I can't say 5 until I try the Hibachi. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a decent size group. The atmosphere is very calm and welcoming. It took about 15 mins or less after we were seated for the food to get going. The chefs were quite entertaining. The salad was good but I felt like the soup was very salty. The hibachi was great and the yum yum sauce is about average. We leave close and I'm sorry to say that today was our first visit! Our family of four (including a 9 and 6 year old) had a blast! The showmanship of the chef was very entertaining! He was also quite comedic! My 6 year old kept screaming "cool!" The food was spot on. I enjoyed my hibachi shrimp and chicken. The sunflower adult beverage was delish! (Happy hour is 4-6!) The decor is modern and every inch of the place (including bathrooms... very important to me) was immaculately clean. It was a little pricey, but still cheaper than Kobe (and we enjoyed it more). Another random thing was the music mix was fun! No boring music! The only odd thing was that all of the floors seemed sticky, but I think it's related to the finish on the tiles. Great happy hour sushi options! Stopped in for sushi happy hour mid week and sat at the bar. We got a few drinks that were on the happy hour menu and boy do they sneak up on you! The bartender was very friendly and checked on our drink order frequently. The reason I'm only giving this restaurant 3 stars is because we waited 45 minutes for our sushi and sat right in front of the sushi chefs and where the sushi was being sent out to the other customers. We noticed that the sushi would be plated and ready for pick up but would then sit there for up to 30 plus minutes and then taken out or thrown away because the customer left. The bartender was super sweet about our sushi taking long and apologized, as it was due to a ticket that didn't print. We understand these things happen and was not at all mad. We were more upset at the fact we saw many dishes sit and later go to waste as they never reached their customers. We will probably try this place out again to see if this was a one time thing, as they do have a great happy hour sushi menu with pretty fair pricing and over all when we did get our sushi we did like it. read more

This is the place to go if you like sushi and hibachi dishes. I usually go here with my sister and we Order a few rolls and split a hibachi plate. Large portion for the hibachi meal. We always order our favorite roll ( pearl river rolls) and always switch up the other ones and try something new. Their green tea ice cream is also good. The menu/website didn't mention happy hour specials, but they had them, which I was really excited about. They had a few dollars off of several kinds of Drinks & Rolls from 4-6:30pm. This is an update after my first visit and first review. After the incident on my first time at Kabuto (getting sick, bad chef) I managed to get a hold of the manager (owner maybe?) Of the place and he asked me to come in and see him. I did so and he was very kind and was very interested in remedying what had happened the first time. Basically it ended up sorted out and he was very very kind the whole time, I have since returned twice, the first time I only had drinks and they were nice. The second time I decided to give the food a try again... The jalapeño yellowtail was actually quite fantastic, very fresh and tasty. I also had some tuna sashimi which was very nice and a couple of nice drinks at the bar. I have not tried the hibachi yet again but I may give it a try sometime. All in all not a bad place, decor is lovely, manager and bar staff are all very kind, and sashimi is fresh. I don't know what happened the first time around but it must have been some sort of fluke because the second and third times all was well.... So now I'm thinking I may return sometime.. Which is a much better outlook than my last review :) read more

I love this place. I don't know what took me so long to stop and check it out... It doesn't look on the inside how you think it would from the outside (if that makes any sense). I saw a menu on the counter at Ashley's Furniture so I asked the guy who sold us our living room set his opinion, and he is a big guy so I trusted that opinion. He let us know the best times to get what and that he orders daily. Decor is lovely, food is delicious and prices are easy on the wallet. What's not to like? Worst meal ever at Kabuto took grandson and his family for dinner. Food was terrible didn't ask how we wanted our steaks cook drowned the scallops in sauce. 22 year old granddaughter got the chicken that had less meat then the 10 year old kids meal portions were really small by the time the meat got around to being cooked everything else was ice cold. Do not waste your time! The only good thing I have to say is the Sushi is good. Myself and some friends dined at Kabuto last night and let me say it was not a pleasant experience. The service was sub-par at best, and the food was under seasoned and watery. The noodles were mushy. The waitress was very inattentive. We had to repeatedly ask for water and it was never brought out until we notified the manager on duty, which still seemed to take 10 min. or longer. Others who arrived after us were already paying before our meal was even being cooked. They throw raw zucchini for you to catch instead of shrimp. Who does that? We had to ask to have our soup and salad cleared. And they were very skimmpy on the yum yum sauce! Some one ordered sangria and it was brought out in a cracked glass so we had it replaced in a non cracked glass. When she ordered her 2nd glass of sangria she received the same BROKEN glass and never brought her a new one! The fried rice had a fishy taste and the noodles were very mushy. The vegetables were watery which created a pool of water on my plate and all over my food. Save your time and go to Kobe. Then the whole check fiasco is a whole other story!! Took hubby here for his pre-birthday dinner. We had reservations for the Hibachi Grill dining experience and were seated promptly. If you've been to one you've been to them all. There was nothing better or worse than similar restaurants. The chef was funny, gave us shots of sake in a squirt bottle, but seemed rushed. The server wasn't very personable or friendly. We ordered steak, shrimp, and chicken...all were fresh, but the chicken and steak was a little dry. The martinis were strong, but served in a small glass. Overall, nice dining experience. We will return, but not for Hibachi, we will probably sit at the bar. There was a lot of smoke during the cooking demo and it all was in our direction. Tasteful contemporary decor.
