They were super clean. Took your temperature at the door and gave you sanitizing wipes as you sat down. All of the utensils and salt/pepper shaker cane in sterilized packaging. The food was out of this world and flavorful. I really loved the ambiance as well as the service. The servers where in great moods and good at describing the menu. The Kafee is great, smooth, and not too bold. The chocolates on the side are so good. I recommend the scone, perfect! Also the breakfast meal if you are hungry. I really liked the terrace and the decor of the dining room and the hallways. Our server was quite pleasant, but service was slow probably because there were not enough servers for the whole dining room. My mussels were great, but I wonder how customers will react since there were a lot of red pepper flakes and the broth was quite hot-spicy. I did not realize that Austrians add a lot of chili to their food. My friends were also pleased with their dishes. I had the kouglof for dessert and find it too dry. Don't come if hungry. Portions are small but the food is reasonably good. The desserts are very good. I think this place is better for desserts and coffee. Big turn off are dirty toilets. Coed bathrooms and all smelled like urine. I ran out. Main reason why bathrooms should never be unisex. read more

Pretty nice spot for late night dessert. We got a bunch of different cakes to split: Karamell-Grey, Fraisier, Papillotte, and Apfelstrudel. All were very good, but the struedel and papillotte were my favorites. read more

Friendly service and not over crowded. Space is nice and very modern feeling with small tables. Coworkers wanted to come here and one shared that the priority was dessert since that is the tastiest part of the meal and to not to expect too much from the rest. Ordered the steak medium rare and it came pretty much well done so that was disappointing but I worked through the plate. Fries were ok and not very seasoned. Dessert was pretty good. Got some pistachio based strawberry cake that was surprisingly good but not mind blowing enough to balance out the rest of the meal. Will probably come back for dessert but not dinner. Service was not so bad as reviews suggested so maybe we lucked out! read more

We came here on a Sunday forgetting it was Father's Day. We had no reservations, but the wait time was 15 min. 25 min later we still weren't seated, however, people who had just arrived were seating themselves. Multiple groups of people just came up and sat in unoccupied tables (that had not even been cleared of dirty plates yet) ignoring the line of people who were waiting to be seated. The staff allowed this to happen which caused longer wait times. My 3 stars is for service because the food was great and delicious. read more

My friends are big fans of the place, so I went with them on a Saturday. Very nice interior. The breakfast they served while visually appealing did not taste very good. While this may be more an incitement of Austrian food in general and not this particular restaurant. As I haven't been to any other Austrian places, so this place for all I know did it perfectly and I just don't like this country's cuisine in general. read more

Kafe Leopold is a European style restaurant in Washington DC, specifically in Georgetown/Caddy's Alley. This is one special place where I have been going since my college days and meeting up friends. Whenever in DC, we still make it a point to stop here. I love their coffee drinks. My favorite is melange- that consists of espresso, steamed milk and foam and a artistic pattern made of cocoa powder. Their lattes and cappuccinos are always consistent in taste as well. My last visit with my raspberry friend and I ordered an amazing warm baked flourless chocolate mouse that was topped with coffee ice cream. They make fresh daily pastries and have decadent desserts. I've taken the pastries to go for my family and they have always loved them. Service is cordial but at times kind of slow due to them always being busy. Overall a great atmosphere to meet friends and family. They have nice seating inside and outdoors near a cute fountain. Surprisingly I have never stopped here other than a coffee break. The moment you walk in there is a receptionist waiting to seat you and then it opens up to a contemporary setting with lovely colors and a cool bar with tasteful cold desserts. Now down to the food. It was not the greatest! The calamari was probably the one good thing we tasted. We've had better steak and salmon dishes at other places before. The steak was slimy and coldly served, and the salmon was ok, but could've have been complimented with better ingredients. We do not recommend this place. read more

Pretty unfortunate to leave a negative review. My dining partner has a food allergy and is on a nutritional restriction. Despite the other members of our party ordering off the menu, the manager came over to tell us she couldn't eat inside. "No outside food" is the "policy of the house." She ordered a drink but couldn't trust the food of the kitchen. As a doctor, it's sad to see a place being so unaccommodating during COViD when we are trying to patronize and keep them in business. Also there are laws and rules to accommodate for other issues such as wheelchair accessibility and ada compliance. But if you have a dietary restriction you're not welcome. Pretty disappointed. read more

Stopped by for a sweet treat after dinner with a friend. I had the opera cake, holy sweetness, it was soo rich and soo worth it! Layers of chocolate-y goodness, cannot recommend this highly enough! My friend had the zitronen tart, and aside from being a complete taste-bud shock after my first bite of the opera cake, it was very good as well; though I would not recommend having them together! read more

Been here a few times, the past couple years. It is European in style cuisine and to a degree in clientele. This style of the space is smooth and modern. There is a significant outdoor seating area. The pastries and beers are good, which is what I had on the most recent visit. read more

I've returned to this awesome cafe after many years and was amazed by the menu options, everything was so good & tasty. The hibiscus margarita was really good, highly recommended. The staff was super nice & patient. Some tourists brought Georgetown cupcakes & started eating them after their meal. The service staff gracefully notified them of "no outside food" policy which I was surprised the family said was crazy. Everyone knows you can bring food from outside to a restaurant that serves food. Awkward moment but I thought the staff handled it very well. I love this relaxed cafe environment. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. read more

Overall: This place is a staple of Georgetown for Austrian (and overall Central European cuisine). It is spacious, lots of seating indoors and outdoors and a robust selection of food and drinks. While it does not excel in any particular category, it is "very good" in all of them! Tastiness: Over the years I have tried desserts and coffee, many entrees, and a good variety of drinks. Recently I noticed a gradual move towards accommodating different types of diets (which I appreciate), resulting in making this a favorite place to get-together with larger parties. The schnitzel is as good as what I've had in Austria (and just as large) and the soups and stews are just as good! My favorites are the desserts - there is just so much variety to choose from, you will feel compelled to order at least one. Presentation: This restaurant's vibe is more utilitarian, so the presentation serves the greater goal of enjoyment of the meal. It looks nice, but nothing unique about it. Service: Decent service, which makes sense given the sheer size of the restaurant. Ambiance: There are usually plenty of large groups dining here, so there is some noise flowing about. The overall vibe is that of a Viennese cafe. Cleanliness: Clean and organized in a way that makes sense. Price: Well-priced for NW DC. read more

We were wandering around Georgetown looking for a place to eat and lucked out by finding this spot. It has a beautiful outdoor patio but it was unfortunately too cold to seat outside when we came. We ate at around 6 pm and the restaurant had some customers but it wasn't very busy thankfully. We sat at the bar and the service was helpful but did a great job of not being invasive. Ok so now to important part, the food. I got the mussels dish which amazing with a delicious broth that I used the bread to soak up at the end. Also be sure to check out their desserts. They have a beautiful display in the front showing all their pastries. We tried the Napoleon and were super impressed. read more

A must-visit if you are in Georgetown. And if you are on a dairy free diet like me, make the trip to Kafe Leopold! The sea bass was delightful with an accent sauce which was so creamy & light, and I would eat spinach every day if it were like this savory citrusy creation. I paired with the elderberry spritzer and followed with a pear sorbet which again was so creamy my DF self was over the moon! The staff is warm and welcoming and the ambiance is hip while being relaxing and a good place for a romantic date or meet up with friends. I will be back! read more

I cannot comment on the food as I did not eat anything (so this review is based strictly on drinks and Ambiance) but we definitely had drinks/coffee and had a great time! The ambience there is wonderful. It's a well decorated place that does serve food along with desserts, pastries and coffee. There's a nice outdoor seating area which I'm sure gets extremely popular in the summer. It's located in Georgetown, off a very busy street with lots of shopping. If you're visiting from out of town definitely come here, grab some pastries and coffee and maybe even something to eat if you need a quick break before you go back to shopping! We got the passionfruit mojito and it was one of the best I've had - but the portion size was a little small... Our waitress was very, very sweet but the service was slow. I went here with a group who frequent this coffee shop/restaurant and they say the service is normally excellent and fast! So, maybe this was just an off day... If I lived in DC I would definitely come here on the regular. If you do visit this restaurant, get some food and pastries and let us know how they are!! :o) I would definitely recommend you come here! This was our second time visited this restaurant but this time we had very negative experiences. Started from waiter was rude and odd. We are Asian but she kept assuming we want Chinese dishes and gave recommendation based on it. Also she made faces when we didn't all order drinks. Secondly, we sat outdoor but even with blanket and heater it's still a bit chilly. This we asked for hot water and she ended up charging 10x dollar for it. Visiting from NYC and came here for a late brunch on a Saturday in mid-January. No wait for a table, food was fire, and McKenzie the serve provided great service. The worse host experience in Georgetown. Host said table should open in 15-20mins . Once table got open table she says "Oh no we are sitting someone shortly". By the way there were few open tables, she wouldn't let us sit cause those were with 2 chairs, and it was 3 of us. read more

We were all able to get tasty drinks- from n/a Hibiscus Citrus lemonade, white wine, a cinnamon toast old fashioned (what? A cereal inspired old fashioned, yes please and it was fantastic!), and a Bourbon basil smash. Then the crew settled on some food-the waiter was patient with the questions and contemplation from the table (thank you!). We started with the SKILLET CORNBREAD with Habanero Honey Butter | Sea Salt (v) And that was melt in your mouth cornbread. Damn. Real cornbread seems hard to come by any more and this is the real deal. And the honey butter and flake sea salt-can't go wrong. I'm a spice weeny-for reals-and this was incredible. It's a MUST get. Across the table we had two of the double cheese burgers (I warned, we have a lack of adventurous eaters) -and they both said the burgers were the best they've had. I had the Philly French double dip, with horseradish cream and caramelized onions-so fantastic-the roast beef was melt in your mouth and the broth was the perfect saltiness. Our fourth got the fried chicken sandwich and really loved the dill pickle slaw that came with it, and the chicken was not over cooked and not raw-perfect! We all had fries with our meals, the thinner kind with light seasoning and none of us could stop eating them, even when we were clearly full, the fries just kept disappearing.

Space is large, bright, and contemporary. Reservations recommended.

From there, we moved on to two of my favorites: the Duck Hunt Pizza and the Gamberi. The Duck Hunt continues to be one of the most unique pizzas in DC, balancing rich, savory flavors with an incredible crust, while the Gamberi was cooked beautifully and packed with flavor. Of course, no visit to L'Ardente is complete without the Lasagna. If you have been here before, you already know. Layer after layer of perfectly balanced pasta, cheese, and sauce, it remains one of the best lasagnas I have had anywhere. We wrapped everything up with the Blueberry Panna Cotta, which was light, creamy, and the perfect ending to an incredible birthday lunch. As amazing as the food was, the service deserves just as much praise. Our server, David, was absolutely phenomenal. Hospitality like his is becoming harder to find. When another one of my fraternity brothers decided to join us unexpectedly, David happily accommodated him even though he was not part of the original reservation. He made sure our guest felt just as welcome and even served two celebratory shots at the table, adding another memorable touch to an already fantastic afternoon. L'Ardente has mastered the complete dining experience. They were super attentive to us throughout our meal. For our meal, we ordered the Cesare, the Rigatoni alla Carbonara, and their famous Lasagna with 40 layers. Everything came out in a super timely manner and each dish was so rich in flavor. I am happy that my friend and I ended up splitting everything. The Cesare was addictive, the Carbonara was very creamy so the bite of salty bacon in the dish was a welcoming taste and then Lasagna was divine. It reminded me almost of eating a delicious warm stew but in lasagna form, making it such a comforting meal to eat. It was a lovely experience and is the perfect spot for your next date night.
