I went here to get a cup of tea. It took about 15-20 minutes. There were three people working the counter, clearly enough to handle the number of people coming through the door but the service model they were using was the most backwards, inefficient model I have ever seen. Making coffee shouldn't/need not be so difficult or time consuming. These three people were working way to hard and their process had a lot of extraneous steps that added time. I am saying this because I stood in line for ten minutes while they took the orders for the TWO people in front on me. Then I waited another five-ten minutes for them to literally pour hot water into a thermos with a tea bag and hand it to me. The actual shop is super cool and I would totally hang out here and read a book, meet friends etc... The drinks they made looked and smelled delicious. Kaffeine's "old world charm" invited me to cozy up and stay for awhile! When you pull up there is free parking outside, which is quite the novelty for Mass Ave! In addition, they have quite an extensive list of teas and coffees from around the world. I was even invited to smell all the lovely teas before making my decision. I ended up with the pomegranate green tea, which I really enjoyed! A friend ordered the chai and was less than impressed with the flavor unfortunately. One of my favorite coffee shops in Indianapolis. Their menu is so unique with many types of international coffee and espresso drinks, all of which are authentic. My personal favorite is an iced Spanish latte. Honorable mentions include the Bicerin, African coffee, Vietnamese coffee, and the Cafe de olla. The coffee brews taste great too. The owner and baristas are very nice and show great patience with me when I stare at the menu for 5 minutes before deciding what to order. Great place to study (lighting is a bit dim however) or socialize with lots of seating space. I enjoy the aesthetics of the atmosphere here as well. Indy needs more places like this! read more

I enjoyed the Spanish latte (coffee, milk, and cinnamon). The coffee is great bang for your buck. Together, me and my friend's coffee was $8.18 (both 12 oz). They also sell pasteries to enjoy with your "kaffeine." The space has been converted from a garage, so it's a little dark inside, but keeps a chill vibe. Located off the beaten path and quite hidden but we did not have trouble finding it. There was limited parking out front but didn't have an issue. We walked right up to the counter and ordered with no wait, found a table and sat down to drink our coffee. My favorite coffee shop in Indianapolis. I always come here to get my coffee and they'll grind it for me (I have an espresso and french press at home). I mix it up each time, and the recommendations of whomever is working that day have always turned out to be good! I have not had a coffee from here yet that I didn't enjoy. I always get 1/2 lb. bags of different varieties for Christmas gifts, and everyone always enjoys them! The only downside is that they are true to their name. They do not sell decaf coffee. My Dad can only drink decaf, so this was a bummer when I took him here. Lots of seating inside, some snacks and other drink options. From amazing authentic equipment to great vibe in their space and delicious smell of coffee in the air I was impressed from the very first minute. The barista, Regan created great experience for us at the bar as we tried multiple coffee drinks. Every coffee lover will find their favorite here as they offer different types of brews and beans and also many espresso drinks and great cold brew. I can't decide which was my personal favorite but I have to highlight their Spanish latte (sweetness was spot on!) and delicious pour over (Brazil recommended by Regan!). The location is an older warehouse-feeling building with a lot of rustic elements and vintage decor. They have a variety of seating options for both those working alone and those meeting others. The entire vibe of this coffee shop is incredible. There's plenty of parking, and you walk in and there's so much empty space, it's comforting not to be crammed in shoulder to shoulder. There's at least 6 tables with chairs for working and you can also sit at the bar. Most of the time I don't like the background music at coffee shops, but Monday around 9:30... I FELT that. Great coffee! Interesting varieties and skilled baristas to help guide you through the selection and make a great cup for you. I really liked the interior, sparse and spacious, not too busy, not trying too hard, which is a nice change from most shops that have so much crazy shit on the walls or are 'about something', that model has been played out and it's boring. You can find plenty of areas to read or get some work done or simply sit and relax with a nice cup. Free WiFi too. The pastries were few and far between but really isn't an issue if you are there for the coffee. While a small menu of food is nice, it's not too high on my list. Parking is even more sparse so park along Mass and walk or get lucky with a spot in front, again, not a great parking situation but worth a short walk to this pleasant coffee spot. read more

OH YEAH! This is a place I could spend all day doing WERK. Sadly, although not surprising, I was pretty basic with my coffee choice and just got a latte. I went here for a morning meeting and ended up working from there until lunchtime. What made me stay, you ask? Well... #1 Those big windows! They gradually let the light in and brightened up the space as the morning drew on. It was cool to see and feel the sun spread its goodness through the shop. #2 The music was ON POINT for my productivity. It was chill yet upbeat enough to keep me bobbing my head to the tune of my work ;) It's a music medium not all coffee shops achieve. #3 I loved that in the first couple hours I was there I saw six friends meeting with various people. That contributed to the chill and welcoming vibes that make this a good spot to do some networking or have a meeting. The cheery and kind baristas also set the tone to the overall happiness of the shop. BONUS: I found out a friend of mine is the coffee cake supplier meaning it's just about as homemade as it can get. It's tidbits of info like that that remind me of Indy's friendly feel. read more

A friend recommended this place when she learned I've recently gotten into third wave coffee. I absolutely loved it. Very cool space and the coffee (I had a Chemex with beans recommended by the barista) may have set a new standard for me. The barista as also super-friendly and talked to me (without me soliciting, but not in a pushy way at all) about techniques and tips to help me develop my pour over skills. Best coffee shop experience I've had. Great place to sit and catch up with a friend, too. My lone complaint - which applies to a lot of coffee shops - is I wish they had longer hours. They close at 2:00 and I love to spend my workdays in coffee shops when working remotely. If they ever extend their hours, I may just stop going anywhere else. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in indy. I love the ambiance of the place, as it's in an old warehouse garage. Ceilings are high, very industrial, very unique. The coffee is good, and the espresso is stellar. Their espresso is fruit forward which makes the con panna (espresso with whipped cream top) is one of my go to caffeinated drinks in indy. The baked good selection for breakfast and snacks is high quality, and they have a large loose leaf tea selection for a coffee shop. Just moved to the area and had allotted myself 20 extra minutes to stop and get coffee before work. A guy walking out the door muttered "good luck" as I walked in so I assumed he had been in too much of a rush. Inside there was 1 woman starting her order and 2 tables with 2 people each. The woman ordered a basic drink and a pastry. So I should've had plenty of time. Nope. I had to leave 25 minutes later without even placing an order. The woman manning the counter (I'm reluctant to call her a barista) was just fluttering around, not even doing anything. Because the server was literally just staring at a pile of ground coffee on the counter and occasionally using a teaspoon to occasionally move it around, I asked (really nicely even though we were at about the 15 min mark) if maybe she could ring up that order so I could place an easy order (not that the order in front of me wasn't easy - a routine drink and a pastry that still hadn't been bagged). I was told in a saccharine voice that she would be "right with" me. I'm pretty forgiving (originally from Western Australia where WA seems to = wait awhile) but this was unreal. I had to leave. I realize she was scheduled to be there for several hours but that doesn't mean customers are able to wait for hours. The location is very convenient for me on my way to work but I'll have to stick with the dreaded Starbucks on days I feel like having a coffee made. Really disappointed as it sounds like the coffee might be good if one is ever able to get it. read more

Love, love love Kaffeine!!! My friends and I discovered this place when we were checking out study spots in Indy, being college students, and it has become our favorite! The location has its own parking spots and also you can park in the Circa apartment spots. Inside, it has a rustic, homey feel with low lighting and wooden tables. In the winter it's nice and cozy and when it gets warmer, the garage door opens to let in fresh air and light. The establishment itself is nice and its coffee is even better. Honestly I think they have the best coffee from a local shop in Indy. My friend loves the Spanish lattes and I love their mochas and iced coffee! I usually try to visit every few weeks, but sometimes about once a week. Some days it's busier than others and honestly is the luck of the draw, but if you find a seat, take it!! The only thing I wish they had more of was seating and open hours, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing! read more

My small coffee seemed a little expensive but it was good. My only complaint was the wait time to get our coffee after ordering. While the location is a little off the beaten path, Kaffeine is definitely worth taking the side road. If you're a coffee snob, you won't turn up your nose here. They have a pretty lengthy menu that includes all the typical brew variations, but it's also the first place I've seen in the US that has my favorite Spanish espresso drink--Spanish style espresso aka Cafe Bonbon. Just try it. You'll fall in love. Beyond their coffee/espresso options, they have plenty of tea choices and a little spread of baked goods as well. I love their baristas. They treat each drink as if it's the first they've prepared each day--plenty of attention, taking no shortcuts, guaranteeing you the quality drink you want. They're pleasant as well--super friendly and make small talk when they aren't focused on making your drink just right. The ambiance is cozy but spacious. There's plenty of room to spread out, and the large windows bring in a lot of natural light. It's always pretty quiet, so it's a good place to get some work done. The only downside is the parking situation. There are few spaces for customers, so prepare yourself to park down the street and walk a few blocks. The walk is still worth it. read more
