This place is great! I know why it has a line out of the door on a regular basis. They are open in the off peak hours which is SO appreciated. I have seen the young women here working hard behind the counter while there are an overwhelming number of orders. They are friendly and keep up a good attitude. Had 2 completely different customer service experiences. -On Thursday morning 9/10, the 2 girls were absolutely lovely. They had outstanding customer service. They were friendly, helpful, and sold us food (when we were only coming in for coffee). They gave us recommendations on things to do in Newport, and were truly wonderful. -On Friday morning 9/11, the 2 girls were absolutely miserable. They did not greet us AT ALL, and they acted like they were doing us a favor by preparing coffee. We asked the one girl making the coffee how she is today, she responded with "good".. no further conversation. They did not ask how we wanted the coffee, and just handed us a black coffee. They were then annoyed when we needed milk (we assumed it would be out for self serve when they did not ask). One girl was on her phone texting. As we were leaving, they did not say bye or anything.. the 2 girls were actually arguing with each other in front of other customers! The 2 girls from Thursday morning deserve a raise, and the 2 girls from Friday morning need to find a job that does not involve dealing with people. Baked goods were good on both days. read more

It's basically a limited menu coffee shop; kind of beat up too. This is definitely one of my favorite places I've visited during my trip to Newport. The service was good and the way they make these milkshakes is like watching an artist. Had a great experience. We went for a little morning pick me up. I got an iced vanilla chai which was wonderful and my partner and I split a piece of red velvet cake. All very scrumptious! When we were about to head out we saw that they offered sandwiches so we ordered the Avocado, Bacon and Turkey sandwich to-go and enjoyed it on the rocks of the shore. Terrible service, girls just sit there on their cellphones at the counter. Nobody made my drink I had to ask for it again. They were not apologetic or professional. I ordered a peanut butter banana toast and there was barely any peanut butter on it. My husband did not enjoy the fruity pebble shake and he was only able to drink less than 1/4 of it. The bathroom was also disgustingly gross and dirty, smelled terrible, no hot water, no paper towels and it was 1 in the afternoon, doesn't look like they clean their bathroom daily. Very inconsistent. We went to get cookies and saw the people after us get these beautiful huge milkshakes, so we went the following day. Upon arrival there were tons of fruit flies in the cookie case, then the milkshakes took about 10mins each to make and what we got was not worth the $12 per drink. Less than half the cup was milkshake and the gentleman used about an entire can of whipped cream to fill the rest. After eating about 15scoops of whipped cream, the milkshake was the consistency of water and tasted like watered down chocolate milk. I do not recommend getting their milkshakes for anything other than a photo. They look gorgeous, but you can get a better tasting one from McDonald's. read more

Possible experienced racism at this place. I really wanted to try their specialty milkshakes but didn't get a chance. I ordered the Pacino and waited about 10 minutes and asked how long it will take for my drink to be ready since I had people waiting for me. I asked if they started my drink yet. They said they hadn't started and were working on other people's drinks that were quicker to make. It seemed they were going to wait until the line went down before they even started my drink. The line was getting longer as I waited. You would think that the person who ordered a $12 milkshake drink compared to everyone else who ordered $3-4 drinks would be served in the order it was taken but no. I guess my drink takes too long for them to make so they waited. I asked for a refund since it didn't seem like they were going to start making my drink anytime soon. They said they had to get the manager to get me the refund. Which I was happy about. I wanted to let the manager know what happened in hopes to reduce my frustration but instead one of the workers said "I refunded your drink". No apologies; nothing except here's ur money back. Is it because of my ethnicity (I was the only non white person there) or were they too lazy to make my drink or was it both? I felt completely disrespected and snubbed. Which makes me think it was a racial and lazy thing on their part. Hope the manager or owner read this and consider the type of people they hire. I would never recommend this place to any non white person and I would never step foot in there again. Update: Ok. Got a nice response from manager or owner so changing my review a bit. ; gave them 2 instead of one star. Mostly because it wasn't due to racism or discrimination; which is good to know and reassuring being an Asian and the way the world is these days. I understand the staffing issue, as well as when it gets busy. However when I ordered, it wasn't that busy but started to get busy shortly after. Still I feel I shouldn't have to wait for the line to go down for my drink, especially since the line was getting longer as I waited. If they decided to make my drink once the line slowed, we probably would've been waiting an hour; which would've been rude and unfair for those who were with me and waiting for me to get my drink. Which is why we left and I never got a chance to try their awesome looking milkshake. When I return to Newport, I might give them another chance due to the response I received from the owner/manager. I was really looking forward to this place. I practically came to Newport for this and boy what a disappointment. First of all the milkshake was 11 and change which is fine I will never give bad review for price because it's posted. The thinking that ticked me off was even when I told them it's to stay I got everything in a plastic cup. That's so cheesy and cheep for a place that's not. Second it was like cold milk no thickness. Since this is a coffee spot, you would think that their coffee would be the focus of their attention, especially since they have a small selection of baked goods and just some sandwiches they can make by request. I ordered 2 coffees on a cold day and was served 2 cups that were just as cold. You could tell instantly by touch they were ice cold and the employee handed them over to me like that anyway. When I requested new cups, the employee told me that it was likely because cream was added - I've been drinking coffee for 20 years and never had a tablespoon of cream turn coffee cold. I again asked for a new cup and, after taking the top off the machine and looking deep in to the carafe (knowing it was at the bottom since they clearly hadn't made coffee recently), she told me "I guess I can make some more." After a few minutes, she told me that the machine is "not heating up" and that she could heat up the coffee she already poured or make an Americano. If she knew the machine wasn't heating up, why would you charge and serve someone that coffee....?? I would have appreciated it more if she was honest about the machine/coffee status rather than trying to pull one over on me - says a lot about what they think of their customers. read more

We stopped by on 10/6 and watched as the staff made multiple lattes and did not clean the steam wand between uses. Which is a major health concern especially when they're using soy milk then dairy milk and back again. A barista made one of our drinks and then informed us they were out of syrup for the second so we modified the second order. At that point there were no more customers and the baristas were just chatting at the counter. About 10 minutes into their conversation we asked for the drink and they informed us that they completely forgot about it. The tables were chipped and the jars containing the ingredients for their milkshakes looked like they just keep being filled and had never been cleaned. Love the new spot in Newport - Kaffeology! Have tried 4 shakes so far and love every one! Favorite is the caramel pretzel shake and made it dirty with an espresso shot. Great Lattes, & quality coffee overall. The location is perfect.. and the Cafe design, lighting and all the artwork on the walls make it unique with cool vibes. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I've been inside a number of times because I do genuinely enjoy their drinks, the vanilla rose with oat or almond milk is to die for, but I cannot bring myself to frequent the shop anymore purely because of the awful customer service. The first time I showed up, there was a young woman who didn't even acknowledge my presence. There was another young woman making a number of drinks so I figured maybe the two of them were going to finish the drinks before serving me, which is perfectly fine I know how busy it gets here, but even a simple "I'll be right with you," would have been appreciated. Ok. Then the two young women proceed to go downstairs and are down there for I would have to guess five minutes. Several times I said "hello" and no one answers. Ok. I wait patiently the young women come upstairs and STILL don't acknowledge me. I say "excuse me" and one has the nerve to say "be right with you." Ok, once again. Then I notice the language the young women are using. In private, fine. But completely unprofessional in front of customers. Another time there's a long line out the door. There are two young women, one making drinks and the other at the register and they seem to have a smooth system going. So I gladly waited. I forgot what time it was but I think maybe these young ladies shift was over because two other ladies appeared (from the above incident) and the woman at the counter started count tips. No big deal, I figured since two people were being replaced that the line woukr continue to move smoothly but it instantly turned into a train wreck. The young woman at the register was conversing with the other worker and once again the foul language was present. Completely unprofessional, especially right in front of the customer. There were a number of times where the woman at the register was visibly getting upset dare I say overwhelmed and whenever the girl making drinks try to help her it seems like she would get into almost a verbal altercation with this worker and just had a very bad and unpleasant attitude which is just not something anyone wants to be around. I'm sad because I do genuinely enjoy the pastries, of which sometimes I have to wait close to 10 minutes to get, and the drinks but just the customer service is atrocious. read more

Yummy - delicious!! So happy the lady at the Newport visitor center suggested this coffee & tea shop. After visiting the mansions, then walking around downtown in the rain, this was a perfect place to get a specialty coffee. I like supporting smaller coffee places, esp when travelling. I had the most delicious iced-latte and my sister had the Hot chai which she said was the best she's ever had. Supposedly they are well known for their shakes, so next time I am visiting Newport, I will certainly try one. read more

We have been here in the past for a quick breakfast but was extremely disappointed today. I ordered avocado toast and it was missed half the ingredients. Supposed to come with radish, pickled red onions and everything but the bagel seasoning in addition to the other ingredients and it did not have those on it. Very "ok." My husband and I ordered the rice krispy milkshake and the salted caramel. Other places that have fancy milkshakes are just plain vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry flavored but these had fruity pebbles or caramel blended in. Needless to say the pictures don't do the shakes justice. They were so delicious and the owner of the cafe is so unbelievably nice and helpful. She will help you narrow down which flavor would best suit you. She mentioned this cafe is pretty new so there isn't signage for the milkshakes but she's working on it ! Definitely worth a visit and awesome to help a local business out. There are a ton of chain ice cream places but why not help a local business out AND try a delicious milkshake! read more

The ladies running the shop were dealing with the lunch rush and handled it with grace. They made my three different coffee orders so fast. My father said their house blend was the best coffee he's ever had(he didn't even need to add sugar, he always adds sugar). I have to agree the coconut brûlée was the perfect balance or sweet and strong espresso. Will definitely stop in again so I can try some other treats on the menu. read more

This was an amazing stop for coffee as well as a small cannoli. The cannoli was delicious and she hand filled it right in front of us with a fresh mixture of cream and choc. Chips.
