With super mixed reviews on Kai Coffee, I wasn't sure what to expect. The line was long, but it moved decently well. At $6.50 (USD) for a small, the Kai Latte was disappointing. I mean it was okay, but, I didn't love it. The Deluxe Breakfast Sandwich on a ciabatta bun though, was delicious! It was also quite large; my husband and I split it. I'd come back purely for the breakfast sandwich. The girl who took our order was sweet and nice. read more

Iced coffee was pretty good but we got sandwiches and there was 2 pieces of Turkey and two pieces of bacon on my club sandwich. For a $14 sandwich, I would've thought there would be a little more to it. Service was what you would expect at a busy coffee shop. Truly a gem!!! I came here around 730am and it was crowded! DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED by the long line, it will clear very fast. I ordered a macadamia nut frap and it was DELICIOUS!!! I also ordered the breakfast sandwich... to die for. The sauce is truly amazing!!! I highly recommend everyone to try out this coffee cafe at least once while you're visiting Oahu (def will not disappoint). First cup of coffee after arriving in Oahu. Service was great. The cashier took time to ask about our day and was very friendly. Ordered the Kai ice latte and it was delicious. Coffee was smooth with no bite after taste. Since it's close to our hotel I think this will be our spot for our time here in Waikiki. read more

I love Kai Coffee. First discovered them at their other Waikiki location, not far from this one, at the Hyatt Regency. The coffee... they say it best... it really is aloha in every cup. The quality of beans can be tasted in every sip. My go to is a regular latte or cold brew. Now why only 3 stars? This location has an expanded menu compared to the other, namely a selection of made to order crepes. I love crepes. I love Kai. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I did try more than once just in case it was the fact they were extremely busy the first time for the lack of quality. Sadly, not true. The crepe itself was flavorless... luckily Nutella does fix most everything. The staff are friendly and very efficient, given the popularity of this location. The location itself is also great, right across from the beach. The open air design is eye catching and inviting. However I think I'll stick to just my coffee order from here. read more

This was my go to coffee shop when I visited. Great lattes and açaí was better than some of the other places. I will definitely be going again. They do get a bit busy, but it's worth it! Service was great and they have multiple locations. I like this location the most though. read more

Cold brew tastes like steeped dried plums and was borderline disgusting. The nail in the coffin was the $7 price tag. If I want to get screwed I'll go to the homeless people behind the store with the $7. 2/5 stars, +1 for the view. read more

Locally owned, they do a hoping business-don't let the line dissuade you-it moves along.I had a straightforward latte and it was yummy. Dude ordered the mac nut latte BUT the barista said that just adding mac milk wouldn't result in the wow factor, you needed the macadamia nut syrup. So he had the mac nut latte with mac syrup and loved it. I'm a huge fan of their signature Macadamia nut latte (aka Kai Latte), I call it coffee from heaven, perfect combination of coffee bitterness and macadamia deliciousness. During December 21, small size was $6, but totally worth for the taste. Large was $6.75. A bag of small macadamia nut latte ground coffee was $30. Coffee shop is very nice, they have tables outside for you to sit safely. They also have a section at the end where you can see how they grind the coffee. Only complain I had was that there were two personal trying to help all costumers when I was there, it took close to 10 mins for them to take my order. But coffee was ready in 3 mins. Kai Coffee was a short walk from my hotel and is all the rage on social media and Yelp, so we gave it a try. I became obsessssed with the macadamia nut latte. I ordered it with coconut milk. *chef's kiss* I got it twice during my stay in Waikiki. It's a little pricey at about $7 for a large with coconut milk, but I will say that it's worth it. Especially since a macadamia latte is something that I'll unlikely find back home. It's not too sweet, strong on the caffeine, and very refreshing when iced. Usually there is a long line, but the service is quick. Coffee beans are locally sourced and there are also a lot of other caffeine and food options on the menu. Highly recommend! read more

If you're staying on the Waikiki neighborhoods, Kai coffee is a must have. My husband and I try to stay a little away from chain establishments since there are sooo many local opportunities, however this was an exception. We both had their signature Kai latte and boy was it amazing. It was a little on the sweet side, bit not over powering. The Mac nut syrup was such a great pairing. Enjoy! read more

We walk by Kai Coffee every time we go surfing, and finally we got to try it out! I got their Macadamia Nut Latte, and it was quite good. I don't like it when the coffee is too strong in lattes, but the balance was decent here. However, the coffee here is really expensive. It was almost $6 for a small cup. I like that they streamline the process in a one way line. You order on the left, then walk around the coffee booth in a single file line to the other side for your order, while browsing the coffee merchandise on display. My last grip is that the cashier had a really apathetic attitude. She seemed so bored and uninterested. It was around 10am on a Monday, and it wasn't even that busy to warrant such lackadaisical attitude. If she had been more friendly, I might've liked coming back despite the price. But alas, I think one visit here will suffice a lifetime. read more

A great spot for morning caffeination, special props to Kai for making the best made-to-order coffee I've found on Oahu. Their Kona Extra Fancy, Kona Peaberry, and 100% Ka'u are available via V60 pour over, Aeropress, and French press (all $6). Of these, the peaberry was my favorite for its bright tropical fruit notes and it was easily the lightest tasting of the bunch. The house blend drip coffee was also pretty decent if you prefer to spend less and/or want a massive cup. Some baked goods and breakfast items were available as well. read more

Long line out the door as soon as they open for the day. Granted it is beachfront and touristy, right across waikiki beach. My boyfriend and I decided to see what the hype was about. We tried the iced macadamia latte with macadamia milk and the hot macadamia cappuccino with regular milk. Both were strong and very good, unlike any coffee we've had back home in Vegas. Sadly didn't buy coffee beans to take home with us this time, but that will definitely be on the to-do list during our next vacay! Their hot food looked good too. read more

Love this little cafe! Awesome baristas, amazing coffee, and great overall atmosphere. Kai Coffee is easily one of my favorite coffee shops in the Honolulu area. The coffee beans are locally sourced/roasted and their espresso-based drinks are to die for - so smooth, strong, and flavorful. With a cup of coffee in front of you, the shop is also a great place to do your work or hang out - they have indoor and outdoor seating (ideal for small groups), free/fast wifi, and a nice view of the beach across the street! **Bonus - Kai Coffee offers a 15% Kama'aina discount. This is the definition of a tourist trap, I asked for local Hawaiian coffee and I was not impressed at with what I got. Very average if that and the staff and atmosphere was not very friendly. I would pass on this spot but all in all I guess it's ok if you want to try it once or twice. read more

I was in need of an early morning coffee while visiting Waikiki, and this kept being recommended by people. So I strolled over there early on a Friday morning, and ordered the breakfast burrito and macadamia nut latte. The staff was super friendly and got my order out promptly. Good coffee. I'm curious how the drinks are made so quickly after you order. The line can get long, but once you order and walk around the corner, your coffee is miraculously ready? Even with only one barista? The food is good but overpriced at $12ish for a wrap. Most things are big enough to split though. read more

Woke up early took a long flight, checked into my Waikiki hotel and there is a festival going on. I was overdue for some coffee and Kai Coffee was nearby. Check their menu and they do pour overs. A pour over is a single cup of coffee made carefully to order. As such, they are priced higher than coffee from a pot, and you get to choose the coffee you want to try. I make them at home but I'm no barista. The two people working here were very friendly and easy to engage in conversation. Enjoyed my coffee outside facing the beach. The coffee was brewed strong, but was not bitter in the least. Full flavor and fully charged, ready to face the crowds, sights, and sounds of the Spam Festival. Highly recommended. read more

The coffee is SO GOOD. I got an iced latte w/ oat milk and the oat milk was creamy- no clumps lol. The breakfast wrap is amazing and the sauce it comes with is the best thing ever. I would eat the sauce by itself seriously. The açaí bowl is delish and classic, a little small for the price but has a thick blended base and fresh fruits. Caprese was just okay because there wasn't a lot of mozzarella and it was melted so it was thin and stringy when I thought it was like a cold slice or mozzarella ball. But it was pretty good other than that and maybe ppl like the melted vibe. Overall great place for a quick breakfast! read more

For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a coconut latte and then ordered a blueberry malasada while my father went with a custard-filled one. At Maleko, the malasadas are pre-made but not filled until you order which I think is a smart move. I first tried my blueberry malasada and thought it was good. The dough was light and fluffy and the filling had a great flavor. As for my coffee, I have to agree with other reviews that the syrup made it overly sweet. I still drank it, but I definitely would have preferred something less sweet. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again for the malasadas. As for the coffee, I would probably pass unless you prefer your drinks on the sweeter side.

I ordered the Kai Latte (Macadamia Nut Latte). I liked the Macadamia Nut syrup but I didn't taste it until halfway through the drink. The coffee itself wasn't as strong as I would prefer but it was great to have in the morning.

This is the only standing Kulu Kulu and I hope this place does not close, or if it does relocate, come closer to Central Oahu where the rent is cheaper, haha (hint). This location is on the outer edges of Waikiki on Hobron Lane in Eaton Square. I rarely venture to Waikiki, and if I do make the dreaded drive to "town", this place and Kan Sushi will be the only regular places where I will make my stop(s), because its so worth it. I've had a long-standing love-affair with Kulu Kulu from the Shirokiya Food Court location with it's waffle bears and Hello Kitty waffles, the takeout Nama Chocolate cups stocked at Mitsuwa Marketplace and now here, in town. The Ube Coconut Mousse $6.95 blew our minds, it was THE best tasting thing, ever. Both the ube and the coconut were not cloying, and as with all of their treats, not overly sweet either. That's why I love Japanese pastries, they get the sweetness just perfect and I have no idea how they mastermind that ratio! Strawberry Panna Cotta $5.95 was creamy, flavorful, delicious and surprisingly light and refreshing for such a creamy dessert. I normally don't get this kind of combination of flavors, and it tasted like something you'd get in a Michellin-rated establishment. Looking back at the photos, I see vanilla bean seeds in the panna cotta, so every loving detail and nuance shows through with each mouthful. Nama Chocolate $5.75 is my go-to chocolate LOVE. It's cut into cool creamy semi-sweet squares dusted with cocoa and it melts in your mouth! This is my favorite of all things that Kulu Kulu makes. I actually enjoy this better than the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan. We ordered another seasonal Strawberry dessert slice cake but it was eaten before I could review (and/or taste it); I've heard it was very very delicious. This place is so good that I plan to bring my friends who will be visiting from Virginia here to try their pastries. I also plan to support this business for as long as I can and make more frequent trips to town just to get these amazing desserts.
