Really enjoyable experience. My wife and I got one order of chicken soba (chicken stir-fry with vegetables and noodles), as well as 3 sushi rolls for dinner. Everything was fresh and delicious. The "Red Sox Roll" was amazing. We also each got an alcoholic drink, which were nice and strong. For dessert, we got the tempura bananas and ice cream. Again, very delicious. Not a complaint, just a heads up: They are understaffed. There was one bartender - and he was also the only server for the entire restaurant. The poor guy had bar patrons and about 8 tables to cover. The food here is really really good. It's my go-to place to get sushi since it's close to where I live. I've dined in a handful of times as well as taken out. The atmosphere inside is pretty relaxed. It is a small location though, so I wish they would expand. I usually get take-out because the wait staff can be slow sometimes, but even then, I still end up waiting a bit. I would call and place my order and be told it would take 20 minutes to be ready. I've come multiple times after 20 minutes (and sometimes even after 30) and my order still wouldn't be finished. Every time I get take-out here I end up waiting an additional 7-10 minutes but the food is good so I usually overlook it. My advice is to only eat here if you aren't on a time crunch or an impatient person! read more

I love Kai's! One of my favorite sushi places in Worcester as it is a good combination of freshness, unique rolls, and reasonable prices. My favorites: crab avocado salad (sooo creamy and delicious), ginger dressing, beef tataki (drool-worthy), dragon roll, and the bul goki roll (beef in a sushi roll? yes, please!), banana tempura dessert (I manage to have some space for it after all that food...). Their crab rangoons and udon noodles are also good! Always have had good service here too. Their Sturbridge location is just as good. Located in a plaza so plenty of parking. I have been coming to Kai since they have opened-though my visits are sparse since moving to another state. I crave Kai constantly and it's a must go to place when I visit home. I'm constantly pleased with the sushi, drinks, desserts and appetizers-try the Red Sox roll, and the sexy roll. I also had an amazing Gekkeikan Sake martini on my last visit. Green tea Ice cream is necessary. The service is great, and I always have the same server who has been there since the beginning. Don't know her name but she is always so fabulous. Kai's is one of my three favorite places to get sushi. The others are Baba Sushi and Kyoto Restaurant. The sushi is always fresh and tasty. I tend to get the spicy maki rolls (spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, spicy scallop and spicy shrimp). Okay let me start by saying that the food here is good. The service is what kills it. I was there once and told the server of a shellfish allergy. She assured me none of the food I ordered had any in it. Then I get the sushi to find crab in one roll. Then I was there the other day and wanted some quick take out. The hostess sat me at the bar where I had to ask for a drink whike I waited. I asked for an irish coffee decaf, they told me they had no decaf on. When i said regular would be okay then, the bartender said it would be a few minutes; she would have to brew some. Could she not have brewed me the decaf as easily? The whiskey, milk and coffee all came in three seperate containers. To top it off although she knew I was waiting for take out, I was presented with two seperate checks. I have worked in food service and this kind of work is way below par. Won't be returning anytime soon, I am sad to say. I'll stick to Baba. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you! I loved this place! The sushi ("Sexy Roll") was amazing! I had the Hibachi Filet for an entree and it was incredible! The dressing on the salad that comes with the entree is delicious also! I'm a stickler about good service and I'm happy to say that this too was very good. I had an Entertainment card and there was a restriction on when you could use it but the manager allowed it to be used without hesitation...great! My only hang-ups about the place: 1) it took a little long for our sushi to come out, but that could have just been bcs of what was ordered. 2) there were too many onions and not enough other types of veggies that came with the entree. 3) I don't like Miso soup; which comes with your entree. Two good bartenders but the other staff just stand around and when you look at them they ask, "you need something?" We sat down at the bar one night - not too busy at all. One bartender legit was standing around. There were someone else's dirty plates in front of us for about 10 min until we asked to get them cleared out of the way and menus. We had to ask for eating utensils, soy sauce plates and regular plates. Then the bartender/waitress came over with a random plate of coconut, offered it to us, "coconut?". Came for dinner on a Sunday night during a football game and the restaurant got surprisingly busy! I enjoyed our sushi rolls (dragon, warrior, and spicy tuna) and the fried rice was also pretty good! We also got crab Rangoon as an appetizer and I don't recommend it, very underwhelming. Unfortunately when the restaurant and filled up there was still just one waitress who was doubling as bar tender. Although she was very kind and clearly she was doing the best she could, she was very busy, and we ended up waiting longer than we should have for most things. The sushi is good but the service is horrible. I do not like going to Kai because their service is so bad. Every time I've been there, the service is incredibly slow, even when the restaurant is not busy. When I was there the other day, the waitress deliberately ignored our table multiple times while she was very attentive to the table next to us, this isn't the first time it has happened either. In the past, our waters would not be refilled or the waitress would brush us off or give us an attitude. I like Kai for their food and atmosphere but the service is horrible and has been for years (it has been the same bartender/waitress). For this reason, I avoid Kai unless I am getting take out or if someone really insists on eating there. read more

Was told that this place was a good to go if you wanted good sushi, like something that's not mediocre. The place is small but what do you expect from a restaurant that's in a plaza? And at least you don't have to worry about parking. Staffs were super friendly and nice, one of them quickly notice I was looking for assistance just from turning my head and looking towards them. And bathroom is very nice and clean. Now for the sushi, me and my brother took my mom out for mothers day and we ordered Party 2, that's it, and it filled 2 out of the 3 of us up. Then again, me and my mom have smaller stomachs so it doesn't take much to fill us up. But still, originally that's supposed to be for 2 people, the party 2 is good enough to feed 3 people and it's definitely worth for what you pay for. The quality of the sushi was excellent, only downside is I don't think the rice was fresh but that was because we ate around 8. Although, if this place wanted to be really authentic, they would have put wasabi in the nigiri. Oh, and the wasabi was really good too, not like the cheap pasty ones at other places. It was kind of more thick. Bottle of beer was cheap too, brother got a blue moon for $3.75, not too shabby. Overall, I had a great experience at this place, would definitely come back and recommend this to others. Walking into Kai, you don't feel like you're in a strip mall, at all. The decor and atmosphere is lovely, and due to one wall being a mirror, it doesn't feel nearly as small as it is. However, atmosphere can't make up for carelessness around food. When I went, I ordered an ohio roll (it was basically sweet potato sushi.) It was delicious, so just as my friend was ordering another fish-based sushi for herself I put in an order for a second ohio roll. Up until this point, all was well. But then they brought out my second plate of sushi. One look at the sushi, and you could tell the level of care put into sanitation here. The sushi; which was supposed to be vegan (or so the server had told me) had some fish eggs on it. If fish eggs were normally used to garnish this type of sushi, then whatever, someone just messed up when telling me if it was a vegan variety. But these were clearly just a sprinkling picked up from the counter or rolling mat or some other surface that hadn't been cleaned properly. If it were just one fish egg, it could be forgiven as an honest mistake. But this was at least a dozen of them. Okay, okay... I know some cross-contamination can happen in a kitchen. But really? Using the same surface for both raw fish and vegetables, and not bothering to clean and sanitize it between handling those two foods? I thought that it was common knowledge that you just don't do that; especially in a commercial kitchen. All in all, yuck. The food may taste okay, but it clearly isn't up to par in the sanitation department. read more

I was a regular customer to their Sturbridge location (Kaizen) until I moved to Worcester. The menu is identical and the quality of the food is identical. The restaurant itself is physically smaller, but the atmosphere and food is just as fantastic. In my opinion, some of the best sushi that you can get in the immediate Worcester area. When it comes to sushi, quality is what I look for and you definitely get that here along with great value. Since the restaurants are of the same ownership, they mentioned that they would be willing to make something off the menu from their Sturbridge location even if they didn't offer it on their menu. Drinks are reasonably priced, $8.50 for a martini, and a nice small bar that seats about 10 people. When we arrived at 7 for our dinner, the place was empty, but by the time we left the bar was completely full and the restaurant was mostly full. I plan to be a regular here for my sushi since they've expanded into Worcester. read more

My first time to Kai and I had a great experience. I forget her name, but we had a fun waitress. She recommended the Sexy Maki, it was soooo good. I am a sushi lover of at least 10 years now and have never had sushi like that in Worcester. Framingham and Boston yes but never this close to home. I also had my all-time favorite, a Volcano Roll. It was right up there with the best. The Mai Tais were as good as Dragon 88 in Boylston. That's saying alot because those things are world famous. I have to say I didn't know what to expect from a Sushi Restaurant/Steak House in Webster Square Plaza but as far as I'm concerned its a home run.
