Hand Roll Factory is a hidden gem of a restaurant. Located inside the Tokyo Central Market, it may not look like much but you will definitely be surprised in a good way. It's super affordable and tasty. I ordered the 5 hand rolls that have Bluefin Tuna, Scallop, Salmon, Yellowtail, and Crab. The service here is fast and friendly. Emilio and Isaac are super friendly, and very conversational. The restaurant seating is bar style, super clean, cute, and cozy. Definitely give them a try.

Hand Roll Factory is a newly opened restaurant (back in April), found inside Tokyo Central with bar seating available, making for an intimate setting. My husband and I ended up having dinner here towards the end of May, on a Thursday evening. We arrived around 6 pm and were greeted and able to pick from a handful of seats. We ended up choosing the following for our dining experience: 6 Hand Roll Set, $31 prior to tax- I decided to get the 6 hand roll set because I wanted to make sure that I did not leave hungry. This hand roll set comes with BlueFin Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, Scallop, Crab and Unagi. I really did enjoy all 6 of the rolls but my favorite was the scallop and crab. You also have the option of getting a spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail for an additional $1 each. But I don't eat spicy foods so I declined the offer. Everything was fresh and delicious. Omasake 5 Hand Roll, $28 prior to tax- My husband had some of the same rolls as myself but he also had a seared wagu beef roll with tamago. I do remember that he had another roll that was different from mine but I don't recall what that was. But my husband did enjoy his rolls. Miso Soup- Normally $3.50 each but during out visit, if you spend $25, then you are able to get a free bowl of miso, in which we both were able to have a bowl. It was nice to have a nice warm bowl of soup since it was a colder early evening on the day we came for dinner. Hot Water- we each had a cup of this and it was complementary. ----------------------------- (Total= $64.75 after tax, prior to up) The chef who made our hand rolls was very nice and made some light conversation (I am sorry that I did not get his name to mention him properly). He was telling us when they first opened there were a lot of challenges but they are doing much better now. He also told us that they did not have their liquor license yet and so we were not able to do a sake tasting. There was another couple that was also eating their meal when we arrived. I overhead the female tell the chef that she didn't think the 6 hand roll set would be enough food but was actually surprised that she was not hungry after finishing her last roll (she also had a bowl of miso soup like us as well). I have to agree that I was also surprised that I was okay with the amount of food I had. This made for a light dinner and because of the pace, it was good for the amount of food. Overall, we both had a great dining experience and see ourselves returning again in the future.

Came at 12noon on Sunday. It's inside the Tokyo Central. Limited seating but luckily there were still seats available. My husband and I ordered the 6 hand rolls set menu. Every hand roll was very delicious. The Bluefin chutoro was my favorite. They have a promo if you spend $20, you get a free miso soup. There's also an alcoholic beverage menu. Shoutout to the great service, especially to our server Alexander. Very attentive and friendly!

No nonsense, low entry level hand roll bar located inside of Tokyo Central. Man, I remember when that nook was first used to host cooking classes and Pocky deco for Valentine's Day and when it was the anime/kawaii corner shop. Now it's the Hand Roll Factory and I hope it does well as it's a source to dine in at Tokyo Central, something I feel that this location is severely lacking in comparison to the other locations (I know space is an issue but still). That ramen shop that they had inside didn't last, so fingers crossed. I came here on a Monday afternoon and I think the other party before me ordered to go, so I was seated immediately and solo dined my entire time there. No other people pulled up, but I also hilariously ate my hand rolls pretty face due to my big back nature. Didn't know that they were supposed to come out one by one as you eat them, so you learn something new everyday. There's only 12 seats here since it's a bar, so it might be more fisted during busier times, but I believe they have a buzzer system. Currently, they didn't have their omakase ready to order, but I was informed that it was going to be available soon by the gentleman working there. Instead, I got the 5 Hand Roll and the hand rolls it came with were: 1) Bluefin Tuna: -I made this spicy (add an extra $1). -Delicious start, nice and fatty but and some firmness to it with a kick from the spiciness. 2) Yellowtail: -My friend who used to work at a sushi restaurant says that a great pH test for freshness of fish is to try their yellowtail and this didn't disappoint. 3) Salmon: -I made this spicy (add an extra $1), -Nice texture to it, but this was definitely one that was a bit saltier than the others, not sure because of the spicy sauce and the seasoning of the rice, but it definitely didn't need to be dipped into soy sauce and wasabi. Perfectly fine on its own. 4) Scallop: -Small scallop bits in the hand roll, nicely moist and not dry. This had some sauce in it too, good balance of creamy and umami. 5) Crab: -This is a popular one and I can see why. One of my favorites of the set too. -Deliciously fresh without tasting too fishy. Rich flavor with some saltiness to it. I'd get this again for sure. They put in a lot of effort and care into the preparation and the ingredients with the imported rice seasoned with their dark vinegar (mixed with rice and red vinegar) and they sear and toast the nori seaweed before creating the handrolls. Adds a slight smokiness and delicious crunch. Good stuff. I feel like with the dark vinegar and rice, it negated the need to use the soy sauce and wasabi. It can get a bit salty with that, so just keep that in mind. I'll come back for sure. Great balance of fanciness without too many bells and whistles attached.

i have heard good things about the handroll factory in yorba linda and when i saw one coming soon closer to me, i just could not wait to try it. on a weekday afternoon, after my appointment, i finally was able to try this spot and it definitely exceeded my expectations. it is tucked to the side in the tokyo central with some floral decorations and partitions to set it apart from the store. as for the food, first off, their sushi rice is seasoned with red vinegar which adds more flavor. second, they also add a little heat to crisp up the nori. third, their fish taste nice and fresh. and lastly, their fish to rice to nori ratio is perfect. the one who helped me was michelle. she has such a bubbly attitude and was the one who made my experience delightful. she made every handroll with lots of attention and care. i will definitely be back and i can not wait to bring my loved ones here !!

Located inside of Tokyo central in West Covina. I was so excited to try this spot. The rice is different from most hand roll spots I've tried. It's made of Red and black vinegar so it gives it a little color. The fish is fresh, of course. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't since Tokyo central is known for fresh catches. It's bar seating only. They also have authentic Japanese green tea. It went perfectly with the hand rolls I ordered. You have the option of a la carte or set rolls.

Michelle was amazing - extra star for service. I believe the rice used is a red rice vinegar - not quite my cup of tea. Fish was fresh - and the miso soup was solid. I got the 4 item set - did the job. Similar to Kazu Nori setup but not quite KN. Ambiance is what you would expect being part of a supermarket. Clean - well lit - might come back again.

Surprisingly, solid hand roll experience. It is not a 5 star restaurant and it's not Japan. That being said, it is a solid causal dining spot. We had the 5 hand roll meal and the uni roll. All were good with the nice touch of crunchy nori (seaweed). Service was great. We will definitely be stopping by often. Missed the pictures because I was so eager to eat.

I almost don't want to post about this place because there's limited seating, but the hand rolls are really that good. Made to order, everything is of high quality and super fresh. The rice is impeccable, and Emilio was fun to chat with. They even had the nori packaged for to-go orders so it doesn't get soggy. Will be back soon!

tried out hand roll factory during their soft opening. it's located inside tokyo central near the exit. walking in, the place looked minimalistic and clean. i ended up getting the 4 set combo including bluefin tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and crab. an additional madai roll recommended by the chef. it was amazing! i love hand roll experiences because it is so fresh and crispy. the fish tasted awesome. shout out alvin for helping me today! the service was wonderful and everyone was communicative and friendly. 5/5 would come back! i recommend you give it a try post grocery shopping :3 or for a quick lunch

Was excited to see the Hand Roll Factory finally open up at this location! My husband and I stopped by for a quick lunch when they opened at 11 so we didn't worry about a wait but was told there is a buzzer system for the busier hours. My husband went with the 5 rolls set and I went with the 4 roll and added the chutoro roll. Before i dive into the food i wanted to give Emilio a special shout of for his hospitality! It was great speaking with him while he made our rolls. We enjoyed the quality of the fish and I loved the season rice. I didn't really need to add soy sauce! This is a nice small, simple hand roll spot and is a great addition to West Co's Tokyo Central. We overall enjoyed our meal but only thing I will note is I wished there was slightly more protein added in the rolls. I've been to other handroll spots that charge the same but had more fish inside and was still the same price as what they charged here. But what's also great is you can just get your hand roll filling from here then walk around the market to try their hot food items too! Nonetheless this won't stop us from coming back as we still enjoyed everything, just wish there was slightly more protein per roll.

This new spot inside Tokyo Central Market hasn't officially opened yet. As of this visit, they were still in training, with their grand opening scheduled for Wednesday, April 8th. The counter seats about 12 people, so if you plan to dine in, expect a wait. I wouldn't recommend coming with a large group, though they do offer takeout. Since everything here is hand rolls, it's mostly finger food, but you can use chopsticks if you prefer. The chefs prepare each roll right in front of you and place it on the counter for you to pick up yourself. Every roll is made one at a time to keep things fresh, and the quality really shows. I'm a medium‑sized person but I can definitely eat, and so far I've tried the bluefin spicy tuna (no photo), salmon, A5 wagyu, scallops, spicy salmon, bluefin chutoro, madai, and tamago. All of them were excellent. I really like the madai. Really refreshing with the mint leaf. I'd absolutely recommend trying this place, but since it's newly opened, patience is key. The chef I watched was trained by Japanese experts and paid close attention to detail with every roll, which made the experience even better.

We ordered both the wagyu donburi and wagyu steak bites, and the meat was rich, tender, and literally melted in my mouth. The wagyu paired really well with the rice and each bite felt super indulgent. The Wagyu Sunshine was a nice contrast because the mango salsa added a refreshing citrusy brightness that helped balance the richness. We also ordered the Ginza sushi platter, which was beautifully presented with each nigiri coming on its own plate. The fish tasted fresh and buttery and made for a fun presentation. The chicken katsu was another solid dish -- crispy on the outside while still juicy inside. Also worth mentioning: they have a sushi roll deal where the second roll is 50% off, along with beer and sake specials which make it even better for groups. Overall, a great spot if you're craving sushi, wagyu, and izakaya-style food with plenty of options.

I arrived twenty-five minutes later and observed that the restaurant was clean and well-maintained. There were three groups of people sitting and dining at numerous tables. After confirming my name, the employee said it would be a few more minutes while my orange roll was being made--no problem, I stated. I noticed a white, plastic-sealed bag containing six to seven rolls in plastic containers, sitting on the counter, ready for pickup. I asked the employee if that was my order. They seem to have everything in their menu including udon. I'm always ordering their #13 lunch special with California rolls. #13 normally comes with chicken and beef teriyaki, a salad, miso soup, rice and sushi. They are nice and allow me to substitute the sushi with California rolls. I like that their beef teriyaki comes with thicker sliced beef, not bulgogi meat like some Korean owned Japanese restaurants. We've also celebrated a milestone birthday for my dad a few years back in the banquet room which is great for celebrations. We have our regular go to meals like the combo 3 and combo 18. It's always so much food and good to take home for later. The menu continues to evolve and periodically with sushi rolls and sushi bowls nowadays. Regardless, we always come by to say hi and enjoy some time at Sakuras because it makes us happy to enjoy dinner there with family. Also we eat here so often we can redeem our stamp cards for the freebie appetizers. :) We always appreciate the kindness and hospitality that Johan & family and the rest of staff give us. We always feel welcome and a part of the family when we dine in. That's why Sakuras has been around in West Covina for all these years! 5/5!
