This is top tier barbeque. I am not from here and was not familiar with Canyon City Barbeue before finding them through Yelp, and they have definitely earned those hundreds of amazing reviews. I will gladly and without hesitation put Canyon City Barbeque up there as some of the best Barbeque I have ever had in my life. When I say I dream of their Barbeque, I mean it. Just writing this review my mouth is salivating as I think back on the food. We ordered the Canyon City Sampler, and it is without a doubt the way to go if it's your first time. It was enough meat for 3 hungry adults with leftovers. The sampler let us to try every cut of meat they had, and every cut is barbecued to the highest level of quality for the cut. The brisket and ribs were our personal favorites. I was also blown away by how perfect the chicken was. Every side is pure deliciousness. Don't sleep on the cornbread. I wish we would've ordered even more. The texture is perfect. Crisp crunch on the outside and perfect moisture on the inside. The way cornbread should be. The Mac and cheese and coleslaw were absolutely delicious as well. We all wish we would've bought some of their Barbeque sauce to take home. They have 2 main sauces, one for pork and one for beef. I would happily drown myself in either. Our server was very polite, attentive, and made amazing recommendations (though I'm now convinced I could close my eyes, point at the menu, and be a happy camper lol) I seldom have reason to be in the area, but I now will be looking forward to making a trip back to specifically to grab some Canyon City Barbeque. read more

Great selection of meats in the Canyon City Sampler, my favorites were definitely the brisket and the pork ribs, but all of the meats were so tender and packed with a lot of flavor! I got the jalapeño mac and cheese and cornbread on the side and they were both amazing. We got the brisket fries but the fries were quite soggy so I would just stick to the regular meats next time. I visited this place over five years ago, and it was so good that I remembered it when I came back to Azusa. First off, I totally recommend the Canyon City Sampler if you can't decide what to get. It can easily feed 2-3 people (I'd say 3, but 2 if you both eat a lot). Here are my thoughts on the individual meats and sides: Pork Rib - WOW. It's so tender and fall-off-the-bone. Nice BBQ flavor and just so good. (5/5) BBQ Chicken - Tasty with a nice bite and tons of flavor. I added some extra BBQ sauce to make it even better. (4.5/5) Beef Brisket - Cooked really well with a great texture. Soft and easy to eat. (4.5/5) Pulled Pork - Very good, but my least favorite of the meats. A bit drier than the rest. (4/5) Cornbread - Tasty and served with flavored butter. It's not the moistest cornbread I've had, but it's still super good. Recommended! (4.5/5) Mash & Gravy - A classic done well. The gravy has a strong flavor and is made from the brisket drippings. Tasty. (4.5/5) This place is a total hidden gem tucked away in a random corner. I have heard from several people that this place was great. IT WAS. It was a great call. We were in the neighborhood so when they asked where we should go eat, I suggested this place. My wife and I agreed to order the brisket and rib combo plate but at the last minute, she ordered the Rodeo Fries. Nope, I just ordered the brisket [7 oz] with garlic bread and Mac N Cheese sides. I also ordered a smoked sausage on the side. Between my daughter and I, we both ate and still took a lot of brisket home for tomorrow's lunch. My daughter's boyfriend ordered the three BBQ sliders and they were really good. In fact, he did not eat the BBQ chicken slider so into my lunch container it went! :) The food was prepared very well. Great taste and we ordered the BBQ sauce on the side because the girls like the sauce lightly spread where my meat should not be visible. Both sauces were good. Ain't gonna lie, and nobody can prove it, but I used the "pork" BBQ sauce on my beef brisket. My husband and I recently got back from Tennessee (home of some serious BBQ), but this local spot, right in the heart of Azusa, blew me away -- hands down the best BBQ I've had in a long time. I ordered the piggy fries and a hot link, and both were absolutely packed with smoky flavor and just the right amount of heat. My husband is from Texas and we lived there a while and I have to say out of all the bbq places we've been too this is the closest to Texas bbq there is. The brisket is well cooked and moist still not dry and stale like most places. The spud loaded is excellent! The baked beans are a hint too sweet however paired with the potato salad and corn bread it's excellent. The Mac and cheese is pretty overcooked and bland for our liking. First time in here (ordered to go), let's start with the good: Staff was nice and appeared to be on top of it, order was accurate and it came out pretty quick. It looked like a pretty clean place. This is about where the good stops. I came into place a to go order for myself, was told I couldn't order just the brisket and just the beef ribs by themselves, so I had to order two entire combos that landed me with 4 sides that I really wasn't interested in eating. The brisket combo was $26 for 10oz and the beef ribs $29, with tip the meal came out close to $70 for me. The beef ribs had a decent bark, and they were as tender as one would expect from a bbq restaurant. However, for the price they were smaller than I expected and they came with someone's hair (accidents happen, and it didn't stop me from finishing but worth noting). I was expecting the bigger Dino ribs. The brisket was a big miss, it was bad. It looked like ham. The faint smoke ring was about the only indication these were on a smoker. There was next to no bark at all, it was largely flavorless, dry, and not as tender as one would expect from a bbq spot. I am inclined to think it was not properly rested and/or it wasn't quality beef to begin with. I wanted to like this place, but retail market price for PRIME brisket is around $5-6/lb. If you are charging $300% more than that at a place with "bbq" in its name, it can't be what I had. read more

Found this gem after finishing a nearby hike. We didn't really know what we wanted but stumbled upon this place. Without a doubt one of the best bbq spots I have been to! The cornbread was a little dry for my taste, the chili was average, jalapeño mac&cheese was pretty good and so was the macaroni salad. The real winners are the Brisket and pork Ribs.
