The Blooming brands of Darden and Landry restaurants along with fast foods like Mickey Dees and wingstops' of the world, so no o don't expect everyday their food will be perfect. They actually cook their food unlike most of the above ref'ed places So open mind going in. It's a cute little spot designed with their home land in mind good music some flavor spilling out onto the sidewalk. I ordered an oxtail meal with 2 beef patties total was $38. It looks like they make the food early and place in warmers with a line prefer buffet style glass protecting the food. (I didn't like their glass set up you could have a child slide their hand back there, so that felt iffy) So the only delay were the folks in front of me ordering and them plating the meals. I was in and out within maybe 12 mins, I couldn't wait til I got all the way home as I hadn't eaten all day and it was almost 5, so I took a few bites of one beef patty. It was flavorful (a bit spicy for me but I'm not the most spicy eater) I had to force myself to let it go u til I got home. I didn't want all the crumbs on me and my newly cleaned car! My drive of 4.5 miles seems so long thank Goodness it was a good weather day, so I could roll down the windows and not be overwhelmed by the flavors and spices for what felt like 35 mins as I kept staring as my bag. I'm home and I immediately finished the patty. And I must say I enjoyed it spicy and all I wished I'd gotten me a extra as the second of my order was for someone else:( Now I'm onto the meal and I have to start with more gravy please. I don't know anyone who gets this that wants their rice dry. I'd love every bite to be moisten with a bit of gravy. Presentation: the oxtails are a bit on the smaller side I believe they chop the bigger ones in half to stretch out the meat. (If I were them I'd add a couple more slices plantains to compensate for that) I too taste the salted flavor it tastes like they use garlic salt and a seasoned salt maybe using garlic powder would alleviate while still elevating the food. The oxtails were tender I just wished there was at least half a serving spoon size more. Overall I'd give this place 3,5 out of 5 stars. Yes they have a couple kinks to work out but they definitely are on track to making some delicious Caribbean food and wouldn't that be nice so close to home!!! I will revisit in a couple months to see if they've up dated their technique and for a spicy beef patty!

And am I glad I followed my spirit in this one! When I pulled up I was greeted with fragrant scent of spice then the doors opens to deep aromas of jerk and curry! Bag was ready and piping hot! And I must tell you it was the longest 14.6 miles home ever with all those spices slapping me in the face! We ordered 2 Dinners and a side. Dinner one was Oxtails with gravy the second was Curry Chicken. Each dinner comes with rice and peas, a cabbage mix and plantains. Along with a side of jerk chicken. The oxtails were delicious. Be sure to ask for heavy gravy as that's kind of light (Wish I had asked for that on the Curry). The flavor was so deep I flew back to my island retreat in my mind!! I am know as the bland food eater so the curry and oxtails were at my spice max. I enjoyed the fullness of the spices and even appreciated the heat that came with it . I polished off the remaining rice and peas later in the evening (glad I ask for additional gravy) and I think the flavor may have been a bit better after settling at room temp, as I I was staring at the plate like why isn't there more!! I did bravely taste the jerk and it too was a very Carribean scent (although too spicy for me personally) the flyover was rich and chicken was moist so that a plus and my partner gobbled it up so tells me that the item was good. Tameka, you and your hubby need a store front restaurant , food truck or hell a cart to be tablet to serve the AV. Y'all owe it to yourselves, the AV. The community, heck to me! The food quality is spectacular! I always get the Baracoa Cubano sandwich and it never disappoints. The ingredients are fresh and organic with each dish I've ordered. Since I have allergies to ingredients used to preserve frozen food, it's always been so hard finding a restaurant with a menu that doesn't cause me issues--and Baracoa has never compromised with their ingredients! The organic quality of their food is something you'll taste on your first bite. And finally--the service is impeccable and I have yet to see such excellent hospitality at any restaurant I've visited, even in Los Angeles! The waiters are always kind, attentive, and energetic with their behavior and service. It's very easy to tell they love the work they do and it shows in their work ethic. In addition to that, the managers are always making sure we're having an excellent night and have transformed it to a level of service we've never seen! My parents and I went a week ago and talked to Daniel the Manager about how much we missed a Piña Colada from a closed restaurant which would make it in the pineapple itself--and he said if we promised to be there in a week he's make it himself. We came on Friday, and the joy that my family felt was palpable when Daniel came out with the drinks we've wished for years now since that restaurant closed! Honestly, I've never heard of someone caring for their guests so much to do that--truly everyone should visit this establishment and experience true fine dining. I don't think I'll ever eat anywhere else for a special occasion ever again.

Took me awhile to do this review…read more THE FOOD LOOKS VERY ADVERTISING looks great very photogenic looking!!!!! but unfortunately SMH I place the order at 3:43p.m. on Sunday November 17. I have my six year old niece visiting me for the weekend so I figure I'll do some takeout. traditionally in my family we enjoy Soul Food on a Sunday. Typically when you order soul food you expect to pay and get your money's worth!!!!!! (((((MONEYS WORTH))))KEY!!! When you order soul food the plates are normally big enough for two people. When i order my food the lady did inform me that she was doing a catering event and she will have to get to me last on the list she kept me fully updated that was consistent with communication gd. ((((8:38pm)))) we finally finally finally received our order. Here's where everything turned left. When I received my plate from her very unprofessional and rude passenger I noticed the plate was very light practically empty so I stood there expecting to receive another when I didn't I said Thank you gave them a smile walked away. Here's what i received. After a 6h wait i received 4 LITTLE pieces of party wings that were dry and cold. 1tbsp literally 1 tbsp of macaroni cheese literally 1 tbsp of greens which I did not ask for and a dry inflatable piece of dessert that we do not order that's all I got for $21 my niece ate it all a six-year-old And ask for more because it wasn't much in the beginning I didn't get an opportunity to really taste the food like I said great advertisement. And I had to ask "What is a Jamaican Style Meat Patty"? and they told me it's like an empanada! But WOAH. It's much bigger than any empanada I've ever seen! The staff was super nice on the phone to me when they explained what it was and that we were able to turn the meat patty into a vegetarian friendly version - nice! They also had a vegetarian one! So we grabbed 2 and got 2 free then decided to also order their vegetarian curry because we thought the meat patties wouldn't be enough. But omg. It was more than enough! The meat patties were huge and thick! And so so so FLAVORFUL! When you come to their shop inside the food hall the shop looks unassuming, it's cluttered and doesn't really give me the excitement of wanting to order here but wow wow wow. Once we ate it we were like "we shouldn't have judged!" Once we dived into the curry we were just waaaay to full but the vegetarian curry was so good. Not as flavorful as the meat patty (should've had the curry first so our tastebuds wern't overwhelmed!" but still tasty nonetheless! It had so much chickpeas and the rice was pretty good! I think we're going to have to come back and try it again when we're in the area!

The Jerk chicken was cooked perfectly, though the spice level was mild, even after a warning. The oxtail was tender and good, but not the best I've had. While the rice and beans were a bit too wet, the plantains and cabbage were great. I would have preferred some hot sauce and fluffier rice, but overall it was a solid meal. A text notification system for when orders are ready would be a helpful addition, especially for those seated away from the counter. The staff member gave an estimated time, and my food was actually ready sooner, which I wasn't aware of. While not a major issue, this is an area that could be improved. The service was friendly and helpful, and I would definitely return to try more of their dishes. While the food overall was good, a few things fell short, like the rice. Overall, it's a tough call because the food deserves more than 4 stars. Caribbean Gourmet is easily the best Caribbean spot in the SGV and my second favorite in LA County. The prices are very fair for the portion sizes, and I must highlight how affordable they are, especially these days. Kudos to Caribbean Gourmet for keeping prices affordable while serving delicious food!

The restaurant is in a strip mall, next to a barber shop. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and helpful that I was genuinely concerned about the quality of the food. Typically in a Jamaican restaurant, the ruder the service, the better the food is. This spot is the happy exception to the rule. The food was EXCELLENT. I asked for a recommendation for their best menu option and she suggested their fried chicken and maaaaaannnnnn, I think about that chicken like white dudes think about the Roman Empire. I'm actively trying to come up with reasons to take the long drive back to Chatsworth to try more of their menu. If you're ever in the area, this is worth a visit.

Stopped by this restaurant towards the end of the day on a a Saturday…read more Experience: since I'm not local, I called first to make sure they had oxtails and jerk chicken. The gentleman who answered, was dry and quick. Damn near hung the phone up in my face to get off the phone so fast. Upon arrival, said gentleman was sitting at one of the dining tables. It was empty inside of customers. I greeted him with an excited smile and he softened his disposition. Now, if you know Jamaicans, being fair I wasn't overly surprised at his stoicism and seriousness. The restaurant: There was only the remaining patties in the display case. Outside of that, a pretty empty place. Doesn't look like a bustling and meticulously decorated restaurant. It's cold and cafeteria like. There's no smell of deliciousness in the air and again nothing to see. No pictures of the food, nothing. Even the kitchen was so clean and closed down, it looks like the food is prepared elsewhere and brought in. Service: the gentleman wasn't rude. He just didn't offer any advise, ask any questions.. nothing. But as I was waiting on my plate, another young lady walked in. She called in as well and received the same dry and quick energy when she called. But when she walked into the establishment, clearly she's a regular. He lit up like a Xmas tree. She was such a pleasant and beautifully spirited woman, she gave her opinion of the gold (she said it was good). The food: Reminder, I was basically going off of the pictures on Yelp. My boyfriend talking about if the Mac n cheese looks good get him some. My response, I can't see a dang thing! The regular customer was surprised they had Mac n cheese (mind you). I ordered a large Oxtail plate. Wasn't asked about sides at all. Basically giving I'm getting what he's got. And I ordered a large jerk chicken plate. When the gentleman began bagging up my food, before he tied it up, when I saw him try and give me (1) small ahss thing of jerk sauce.. I had to stop him to look before he tied it up. Sure enough, chicken dry as hell. For dang near half a chicken with some dry rice and peas (1) jerk sauce?? At the price point of each plate (over $25) . I ask for more sauce, I said, if I bring this home to my boyfriend he's going to have a fit! He gave me one more. I insisted another and he was getting ready to deny it, but ok told him I'll pay for it. I said there's no way my BF is eating that dry. I was so caught up in making sure the jerk was right, I didn't peep everything else too deep. I bought (2) patties as well (beef). $70 to feed (2) with large plates and a patty. The Oxtails: small oxtails, a good portion. They were ok. Some pieces were a little tough and dry, let me know this was definitely the bottom of the pot. Had they had Mac n cheese (they were out) I would have opted for that over rice and peas. Only because most places don't do it right. Again, it's end of the day.. Both my plates definitely got the burnt bottom. My boyfriend had more of the crispy parts than I. But definitely dry and sitting. BUT not bad actually. I threw some of this Carribean hot sauce I have on it, turned it up. The oxtails: 6.5/10, The cabbage a total NO (0/10) . The beef patty: 9/10 (good ). The rice and peas: 6.5/10 The jerk chicken... as a disclaimer, Jamaica is my choice vacation spot, jerk being a staple upon visits. So my idea of what jerk should taste and look like is high. Do not expect your chicken to come to you already sauced. It's dry, like it's straight off the grill. The chicken was tender, and had a really good flavor. Without the jerk sauce. Now does it give me that taste the grills in Jamaica give the chicken. No. Being fair, it has a really good Smokey grill to it. IF you have your own jerk sauce use it. The sauce they provide the texture wasn't saucy more like applesauce texture. It wasn't spicy and just not jerkie. The jerk: 7.5/10 Last, I was irritated I didn't pay attention. The menu I could have swore said , festivals come with the plates. Instead we were given (1) plantain each. That had me hot. Overall: 6.5/10
