Love love love this small business. My family has been buying their empanadas for a while and now I am able to drive over and get them for a small snack or even lunch on my own. The workers are super friendly and sweet. The bakery has a good range of stuff but my fav have to be their large empanadas and their turon. I have heard about this bakery from my Filipino friends many times. My friends always order a party tray of fried bananas. I decided to pay a visit. My friend and I bought 5 different desserts, and they are all pretty good. The big baseball-like friend coconut balls were my favorite. 4 in one skewer. (Sorry I don't know the name..) It's crunchy outside with a thin layer of sugar coating, so it won't be soggy even when it's cooled down. Inside is the chewy coconut, the texture is like Boba. Fried Banana: This is wrapped with spring roll skin and deep-fried. It also has a thin layer of sugar coating. The tartness of the banana filling and the sweet and crunchy skin is the perfect combination. Ube rice cake, sell-by small box: The texture is chewy but not with a strong Ube taste. Bamboo cup rick cake, sell-by big box: this cup cake's cup is bamboo leaves. So these rice cakes have the aroma of bamboo leaves. The texture is more like a honeycomb cake but chewier. Halo Halo (drink): This drink is so colorful, but not my favorite. I was expecting to have a coconut milk base drink, but it's a condensed milk base drink. Inside has cut papaya pieces and some jello-like stuff. Best turon in town! We've tried turon in other places and nothing beats this place in terms of taste and value. However the line is long and the wait time for the turon is long too (because everybody is ordering turon!). We've had instances when the person in front of us ordered a whole lot of turon and when it's our turn, we had to wait for the new batch which they said for 10 minutes but turned to be 30 minutes. Not cool. We should've ordered ahead maybe but we were getting less than 10 turon and still, we felt like we shouldn't be lied to! read more

Great place to purchase their warm Pandesol, which are absolutely amazing. My grandson loves their puto, and I love their bibingka. I'm a frequent customer here because it's the best tasting joint for Filipino delicacies in the area. Totally frustrated that they charge you 4% more if you use a card instead of paying cash. So if you patronize this place make sure you carry cash because that's how the business owners would prefer it. It appears like the customer needs to adopt with what the owner wants. I have been coming here since I was a kid. I came on a Saturday afternoon, and there was a line!!! Even when I left, there was still a line. Seems like everyone knows about this place. It has been here for 20 years now and they still going strong apparently! We initially weren't planning to get it, but we happen to be in the area, so we made a detour. The turon here (Filipino dessert - fried banana wrapped in in an egg roll skin and covered in sugar) is the best around!!! I don't know what makes it so good, but it is!!! They cost $1 each and totally worth it. You want to eat them fresh because they are fried. The skin will get soggy if you do not eat them then and there. I waited 45 minutes just for it. They also have a ton of other Filipino pastries available. I have yet to try anything else besides the turon, but seeing other people order online, it looks like the other stuff is popular too. They also have some pre-package strings, dessert, and snacks available. The only downfall is the wait. I had to wait 20 min after I order because they ran out. The store is small, so you can't wait inside. I had to wait outside in the sun, so that was a con. Either way, I love the turon here. I'll be back again once I'm in the area!!! read more

Been passing by Kalahi Bakery for years and had never stopped by until this past week. Looking through the Yelp reviews, I knew I had to try the turon. Came here on the weekend and they were busy, so we decided to try again on a weekday. There were so many goodies that we didn't know where to start or stop. The coconut pie and the empanadas looked delicious! We will most definitely get that next time because we know items taste better when fresh and we already bought too many items. Hopia Ube $6.50 Turon $0.95 Bibingkang Malagkit $6.50 We loved the turon! Wished we bought more, but next time. The Yelp reviews are on fire with the turon and I am glad I listened. The Bibingkang Malagkit was too good. We almost finished it all the first day. Coconut anything or ube anything, and I'm down! The Hopia Ube (Mung bean and Ube) wasn't very sweet and the outer shell was not very thick. Ratio of filling and exterior shell was perfect. We will most definitely be back in the future. Best place to come get turon! I haven't had any other turon that stays crispy in the box. I love coming here because I get to be adventurous and try out all the many different types of desserts that they have. I tend to always over buy turon but I make sure to share with my family. When they are nice and hot, I can literally eat 5 pieces all at one sitting. This place a definitely a little hidden gem in Walnut. It's in a small strip mall on Nogales Ave. The plaza actually doesn't have much parking and if it's a holiday, you are most likely going to have to wait in a long line that goes around the whole plaza. Until today :( I hope the owner reads this so they can improve their system when it comes to being organized, systematic way of dealing with busy holiday, orders and long lines Today Thanksgiving, I placed an order yesterday for pick up today so I can share the delicious pastries with my out of state relatives and friends. Pick up time 10am. I was there 9:45, long line. I told myself, nothing to worry , mine is only pick up. I should be in and out of Kalahi. When I was placing my order, I was reminded to pay "Cash only". No problem.!! When I was about to enter the store, someone told me that I should be following the line ( mind you, long line). I told them that mine was pick up. I was told that I I still need to go and be lining up. Because I can't wait, went inside and asked the lady behind the counter where to get the pick up. She asked the name, time and what I ordered after I gave the info, nothing was said, no follow up then I found out that some Of the people inside were waiting with their pre order and some pick up time was at 9am. At that time it was already past 10am People getting impatient and telling the lady that it's been too long, what's the point of pre order. Then, the lady said, calm down and don't get upset. In tagalog " walang magagalit". and they keep telling people cash only If they're asking us to pay CASH only, the expectation is don't let us wait especially if we Pre order. If you have the gut to ask us for CASH only payment then we expect a timely service too. There' should be an area for pre order and an area for walk ins with associate in each area so it will be faster, lines shorter and much quicker. Pick up on pre orders and separate line for walk ins. I'm sure they know that it will be busy especially they chose to open on a holiday. PLAN ahead so it will be more systematic. and people will not get crowded inside and outside. Then they will give a time frame on when the order will be ready and it's not being followed. Also that means the pre orders are not ready. They deserve a better rating than what they have now. They have the best Turon (fried banana) in the area. Turon is a Filipino fried banana snack that looks like lumpia but--it's sweet, crunchy, and yummy. Inside the fried banana egg roll is ripe saba banana, jackfruit, and coated brown sugar (on the outside). It is fried to a beautiful golden crisp. Sometimes 3 stars doesn't mean they have bad food or service. Maybe a one bad experience. I went in today, there was a short line, the service was quick and friendly. I come once In awhile the Turon and the customer service always good If you have a sweet tooth, you'll be hooked. I don't have a sweet tooth and these Turon are perfectly sweet (which is sweet on the outside and a bit of tartness on the inside.) Perfect combo for a crunchy and tasty snack/dessert. I found out about this store through a friend. Or else I wouldn't have known about this place. Maybe only the locals, through word of mouth, or only Filipinos know about this small establishment. The only complaint I have is they use to add more jackfruit, but now there's only a small slice. Very inefficient staff. They will take orders over the phone but once you pick up your order (TURON) they'll tell you they don't have ANY Turon anymore. Today is just an ordinary day and not an Holiday and still very inefficient! Customers drive all the way to their store hoping they'll get their orders but to their frustration the staff will just say "Wala na pong Turon." How unprofessional. When your mom tells you to give them a good rating, you just do it! I came here for the first time today. The graduate student I'm mentoring and my coworker both said I have to try their turon. They were absolutely correct. This is the best turon I have ever had. The turon is a pretty big size. The wrapper was fried perfectly with the perfect amount of caramelization (?). The wrapper was also nice, thin and crispy. The banana was soft and sweet. Their turon has langka (jackfruit) in it which makes it even better. Other stuff I got... Chicharron: crunchy, not greasy. Yes, I know, how can chicharron be non greasy, well it was, sort of non greasy or as non greasy as a chicharron can get. It was not overly salted also. Ube hopya: I don't normally like hopia, and I still don't. I heated it up for a little bit to soften it up and it tasted better. But, I still don't like hopia. Camote-que: camote on a stick. Camote---yam or sweet potato, I don't know. It's good... Nice chunks of camote on a stick with some caramelization on it. Nicely cooked. Melon juice: refreshing! Service: the sales lady was nice to me. I think some people are overly sensitive if the workers don't immediately shower them with attention. Definitely recommend this place!
