Nice lil mom's n pop's bakery shop filled with yummy snacks and baked goods. Their empanadas are very popular and delicious. They also have fresh breads and a variety of Filipino pastries. Very nice and family service. Located in the same plaza as Red Ribbon Bakeshop and Jollibee's off Amar Rd. and Azusa Ave. with plenty of parking.

Hopia Mongo ! Yum ! I don't know about the spelling on the label.

I was in the area last night, so I always make it a point to stop by. I tried to control the quantity of my purchase, but it was hard. I bought three chicken and three pork empanadas. The chicken empanadas had white sesame seeds on the outside ! I love sesame seeds ! The chicken empanadas were delish ! I thought I saw carrrots and perhaps potato, but we ate them so fast, I didn't have time to carefully inspect. The pork empanadas had a bbq ish sauce with shredded pork which was a surprise, but good ! I also bought two packages of Hopia Mongo. I love their Hopia ! My hubby, son and I love that place! The service is always friendly and the assortment of baked goods doesn't disappoint ! I wanted to try the beef empanadas $2.99 but they were all sold out. Sad face There's always a next time ! They take credit cards ! Yay ! No plastic bags, so bring your own bag, or pay 10 cents for a very nice brown paper bag with handle. I'm frugal , I carried my goodies out the door after paying without a bag ! I'll be back !

This continues to be my favorite Valerio's because of their Cheese Pimiento Bulilit ($5.99)! No other Valerio's makes it the same. Unfortunately, this shop is far from me so I don't visit often. I remember the days when it used to be $3 for a pack, but at $6, it is still worth it to me! To be honest, I can't speak to the other bakery items here as I only come here for the one item. I have read reviews of items that have gone bad or go bad quickly so I always inspect the package carefully. Even so, I understand that with many Filipino bake shops, moldy bread can be an issue so I buy knowing that I can get unlucky with a bad/old batch. Service here is always friendly in my experience! It's in a busy plaza and an old building, so don't expect it to be bright and pristine.

Stopped by on Saturday, 10/21/23. This place is my family's go-to for all Filipino pastries. A LOT of assorted options to try out. This location is very popular and gets crowded inside. Extremely small area and hot. Prices have gone up over the years.

Always fresh baked goods here. Every time I come here I always wished I could get everything money can buy. I always calm myself down just to get 3 items at a time . The ube bread is my grandkids' favorite snack. I just purchased 2 bags , 1 for my grandkids to share snd 1 for me to share...

Very small bakery and there seemed to only be one worker handling everything when we got there, but great pastries! The bakery is filled to the top with Filipino baked goods, pastries, and desserts. Breads, buns, and even empanadas are available. Lots and lots of variety. There are some bagged pastries that are ready to take to go but there are also fresh baked goods that are behind the glass. We got the fresher pineapple flowers. Imagine cinnamon rolls but less scathingly sweet and filled with the pineapple bread dried icing. Good good stuff. Gonna get some more sweets from here one day !

if you're looking for authentic filipino pastries this is your spot! This place has been here forever mom/pop shop! It's literally a hole in the wall place in the always busy Seafood city plaza for all things pinoy. During covid they are limiting 4 customers at a time inside the store with face masks required to enter! They have all sorts of fresh pastry and breads freshly baked daily. The MUST get items include the cheese rolls, turon, and variety of ensaymada. They do sell out often especially for the cheese rolls and popular ube flower ensaymada so come earlier! If you've never had a cheese roll its like Porto's Cheeese roll but more asian style without all the super sweetness. The texture is like a crispy croissant filled with cheese. The turon are fried egg roll skin wrapped plantain and jackfruit with a crispy caramel glaze. These things are so addictive but MUST be eaten fresh for best crispness. Ensaymada they have all types from savory to sweet. My favs are the pineapple or ube stuffed ones. The selection does change daily so check back often. The prices are all super reasonable with items ranging from $1-6 for entire boxes of bread. The auntie staff are all super friendly even with those unfamiliar with pinoy pastries. Ask them what's inside or what do you recommend and they'll explain it to you.

COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. All of the staff wears a mask. All customers are expected to wear a mask too. The staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs only with limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my baked goods from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour (duh! It's a bakery lol). They also do not allow pets in their establishment. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big since they share the lot with several other establishments like Seafood City. Food: I ordered white pan de sol. My parents are a big fan of their dinner rolls because they are so buttery and fluffy. Perfect for the fam bam to enjoy. Staff: The staff here are very nice, friendly, and welcoming. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is a $10 credit card minimum.

My wife bought some desserts for the New Year's party going on right this second and when we opened one of them up everything was molded, this is really disgusting and they should check their food before selling, who knows how old This thing is, I don't even want to eat any of The other deserts we bought, would NOT recommend!

Ask the Community - Valerio's Tropical Bake Shop

Does anyone know if Valerio's on Amar & Azusa is open?

    Yes they are.

    Are they open?

I was there on 5/1/20 and they are closed 😭😫 the sign hasn't been updated like no one has been there

Does anyone know if they're open right now? Or have changed hours due to covid 19? They don't answer the phone

I was just at Valerio west covina and it is close. The sign on the door said that they will open on 2nd week of April.

The bathrooms are pretty clean and most of the prices are pretty reasonable. I do feel like some of the daily made food is a bit overpriced, but after 7pm, they do offer discounts. I do feel that the ambiance offers something very different than other markets as the store is usually decorated and generally feels clean, although it used to feel cleaner in the past prior to 2020. Always love visiting here from time to time, especially to get some sake. The size of this Tokyo Central is also a bit bigger than most others, but I do feel like other TC's are more modern and cleaner than this one, but you still can't go wrong here. Edit: I went today because I was in the area and the store feels much cleaner and they added a brand new sushi bar with a chef where the old anime stuff used to be. It's pretty nice and the store feels slightly refreshed. 4.5/5.

It's a bustling shopping center, so parking can be a real headache. think musical chairs, but with cars. Once inside, you'll notice the aisles are about as wide as a handshake! seriously, it's like playing bumper carts with your shopping cart. But, the star of the show is their fresh produce. So many tropical fruit-galore! You can get papaya, all sorts of bananas, jackfruit, basically a mini vacation for your taste buds. They've also got a fresh meat section, plus an Asian snacks corner that's like a treasure chest of goodies, perfect if you're hunting for that unique bite. And let me tell you, some of their offerings are downright wild; like chicken heads and legs you won't see anywhere else, plus packaged beef and pork blood!!! yep, blood in a grocery store! I'm not exactly sure what to do with it, but it sure is a conversation starter. And speaking of interesting finds, they've got all kinds of liver; beef, chicken, pork. I grabbed a few things, including some fresh fish, which they'll clean for you, though, if you want a full fillet, forget it. They'll just chop off the head and tail, maybe scale it, but no fancy filleting here. All in all, I'd give this place a three stars. It's not the cleanest spot, let's just say the whole store smells like a seafood market at low tide. And with only two cashiers, you might feel like you're aging in line. But if you're on the hunt for those rare ingredients and don't mind a little chaos, it's worth a visit!
