One of my favorite Filipino restaurants in West Covina. The attendants are nice, always calling me Kuya. Ugh, am I that old? Well, it's better than Manong. I've been here about a dozen times. Sometimes with my Tita and Mama, and sometimes pick up dishes to go and eat at home. Many of the dishes look delicious, and they always look recently prepared, unlike other places where they've been sitting a few hours and they look tired. They have really good pansit sotanghon and pansit palabok, and beef bulalao, and pinakbet. I also like the mongo soup and chicken and pork BBQ. An older couple led me here for my first time & it's time to leave a review. I had such an amazing experience. I wanted the chicken adobo, but it was sold out! I am not surprised, the dark sauce looks so delicious. They did still have pork adobo but Instead I was offered the chicken afritada and a chicken ginger soup, which i was eager to try. The chicken gravy rice combination is insanely delicious. The soup is so warm & hearty, I am taking it home to eat later for dinner w some steamed rice. Having lived a couple blocks away for a couple years in WesCo .. and growing up with lots of Filipino friends and family.. I've grown accustomed to Filipino foods and I'm especially fond of the breakfast.. this right here on Azusa and Amar is Little Manila in the SGV.. with a wide variety of Filipino shops, markets, bakeries, and of course restaurants.. I tried Pinoy Pinay, DJ's, Jollibee's, and a couple others but I like Itoy Sa Atin the best out of all of them, the food has always been fresh and delicious.. the sisig, tocino, and baby octopus have been superb.. very home cooked taste.. since moving out to Chino, the IE .. there are no Filipino restos out there except closest being Jollibee's in Chino Hills which is disappointing to say the least.. whenever I'm back in WesCo I hit this spot up for some masarap grub.. I came here by myself, without my family, sometime after school/work and in my uniform.... ordering my favorite... that's when I knew I was a fan. I've been coming here for a number of years and my family has been returning time and time again, even for catering. Having tried many Filipino restaurants and increasing my options, I decided that this location is one of my favorites when it comes to home cooked meals. Walking in the staff is very welcoming and pleasant, ready to take your order. Much like you would when ordering at a mall or in a Chinese place, grab a tray and select your food... as it is all shown to you behind a glass. There are number of dishes offered with a variety of fish, pork, beef, and chicken. Also, what's great is that the menu is slightly different each time. There are a few staple dishes available, but for the most part they dishes rotate: as far as what I've seen. A few items that I love to get here are: -Beef Igado (?) -Bangus fish (Milkfish) -Dilis (small fried fish) -BBQ chicken kabob -Kare Kare (meat in a peanut butter curry) -Adobo (slow cooked meat) -bistec (beef steak) -Bihon pancit (thick noodle-like chow mein) -Their house soup, which comes free when you dine in. The most recent thing I ate was the Igado, bangus, dilis, pancit, and house soup. Beef Igado is just a beef with some gravy. To me, it tastes slightly sweet, but still savory. The beef is nice and soft... very easy to eat. Dilis, one of my favorite items. It's nice and crunchy, though sometimes you can taste the oil. Typical it's eaten with vinegar, which is available at the tables (the clear one with chilis on the bottom). Or, if you're ordering to go, you can ask them for a couple to go as well). Bangus, the milkfish. I like this a lot. This fish tastes really good as it is slightly fried. It has a great texture and the fish, in itself, has a good flavor. Just be careful as there are quite a few bones... unless they have a boneless milkfish available. Pancit. I actually ordered to for my class potluck and my colleagues ate seconds and took some home! Though I forgot to ask if they had lemon available, it was still very good. The vegetables were still nice and crunchy and the noodles absorbed all the flavors. I ordered the one with shrimp, pork and chicken- but you can pick and choose what you want and don't want in it. Also, this was a catered item, which was a tray that can supposedly serve 8-10 people and costs about $23. Everyone loved and there was nothing left over. :) The house soup is pretty good and what makes me want to eat in rather than take out. :) It's kind of like sinigang, but without the veggies and meats in there- though you do see some meat residue floating around. It's just broth that's reeeeeaaaalllllyyy sour. So simple, but tastes good! :) I suggest you try it out. You can even try little samples if you're unsure about what to get or can't decide on what you want (like me! ^_^) What I typically get is a 2 side combo, which comes with the house soup and a good portion of sticky white rice. Of all the Filipino "turo-turo" cafeteria styled restaurants that I've eaten at, this is quite possibly one of the best. There are many other similar restaurants around it seeing as it is located in a very strongly concentrated Filipino locale. The service is amazing. If you are wondering what something tastes they'd be happy to give you a sample. Food in return is a good sized portion. Slightly cramped though.
