I have been to several other locations and this one is "hands down" the worst one I ever stepped into! And what I can't quite figure out is why it's so packed and why people keep coming here... I ordered their Hibiscus margarita which I love at the other locations ...but here it tasted like Koolaid with a splash of tequila. My Queso birria had thick pieces of shredded beef that were tough and fatty...not good. Inside is quite dark with bad acoustics and the temp is a little chilly... I will stick to the one in NOHO thank you. ~ and that's all I have to say about that...

I really wanted to like this place... Have been here a few times and the result is always the same. The check ain't ever right. I order tequila soda with a splash of lime and get an up charge for the lime juice... Add this to the fact thag my drinks either weren't delivered or weren't made correctly at certain points. Great crowd vibes and staff are friendly but the bill being incorrect and the up-charges and poor delivery of ordered items is tragic. Would like to recommend this spot but can't. FYI the discount shown was added after I had to point out the check wasn't correct.

Kalaveras has one of my favorite happy hours in Los Angeles, and this place continued the trend for me when I came in last Friday. The energy was electric, as there was a Mexico soccer game on for the World Cup. We ordered some asada fries and birria tacos, and both were super tasty. The asada fries in particular were a generous portion and you felt like you got your money's worth (a challenge in this economy). The vibe inside is very chill and the lights are down low. I loved the trees inside and always appreciate the color the painted skulls add to the space. A couple small things...first, we didn't get the food for a long while after we ordered. Probably around 35 minutes, and happy hour finished in the in-between, so it was too late to add to our order if we had wanted to. Second, I noticed that sometimes the silverware is not 100% clean (this has happened to me at 2 locations), so i make sure to check that I'm not getting anything dirty and mention it to the servers. They always promptly replace it, but it'd be nice if that was not happening in general. Anyway...love the deals here, the flavors are on point, and the atmosphere is fun. What more could you want?

the vibes in here were pretty fun. it was taco tuesday so there was live music playing. we came kinda late but we were sat pretty quickly, service was very fast throughout the night so props from me. we got the guac as our appetizer, it was kinda cold tbh, but still good. i got the birria tacos and they were VERY good. served with a little bowl of the broth so you can dip them in. i devoured that thing 10/10. for the drinks, we of course tried the soft serve margs. i felt like the menu was a little deceiving because the only margs that came in soft serve were pineapple and watermelon. the pineapple one was super good, definitely strong. my only problem was that they melted rather fast and you just have to kinda start slurping it bc they don't come with a straw

Food was great, only complaint is that we came at 1:00pm (Sunday brunch) they said only buffet available and it would end at 2pm. We started eating and at 1:40pm they started putting all the food away!!!! I feel like we didn't have enough time to eat

Kalaveras is a Mexican restaurant chain with a significant footprint in California. My first visit was to its outpost in Simi Valley and I was impressed with the different accent on food, music, decor and overall ambiance. The menu is eclectic with both Mexican and Latin influences and there is a good variety of dishes. Therefore, by accident I learned that it has been only 3 months and they are herein Northridge, in the vibrant culinary environment of the SFV. I came here for a late lunch, and chose the Huevos Rancheros. Having the crema and cheese on the side is good for me. The rancheros sauce was not too overwhelming, even though it almost camouflaged the taste of my over easy eggs. The dish is supposed to come with Mexican potatoes, but they were just fried small wedges. The corn tortillas were disappointing (from a bag) and served dry and rubbery. I could not eat them. Why not make them fresh? The complimentary chips and salsas were good. I also asked for the habanero, which was excellent. It was a rainy day and cold, but they refused to heat up the place. Service was mixed, a hit or miss. They also have a Sunday Buffet (9 am - 2 pm), that is totally disorganized. For one they are understaffed and therefore cannot keep up. Second, selections were running empty and the servers were ignoring, until told. Third, the lighting by the food was bad, what is in that tray? Fourth, there were absolutely no labels for the food. What is in that taquito or that enchilada? The mini huevos rancheros were stacked with so much cheese that I thought it was a tostada, until I saw an egg peek out of one. A lot of the dishes were drying out. Including the liquid chocolate tower. The taco station was good. Mariscos, not bad. They need to update their signs. Be more innovative. It is nice to finally have a Sunday Mexican buffet in town. But here at Kalaveras, they still have a lot of work to do.

My hubby was craving Mexican food, a cool vibe, and a margarita. So we finally checked out Kalaveras in Northridge super close by and plenty of easy parking. For food, we each ordered our own entrées: enchiladas verdes and tacos gobernador, plus a couple of drinks to top it off. Big shout out to our waitress, Brandy, was super sweet, really informative about the menu, and helped us pick the perfect dishes. See you all soon, xo!

Had a reservation for 10 & we were at pretty quickly upon arrival. We went for their Banda Night that they host every Fridays. Vibes are great the atmosphere here gives like turn up vibes lol, which we enjoy. I ordered the pepino con chile margarita which I liked a lot, wasn't too strong so I was able to enjoy it. Food wise I had the birria tacos n ther were good I feel like you really can't go wrong with that option.

A beautiful restaurant love the decor! It gives Mexican culture and beauty through artwork painted on the walls and trees incorporated in the seating area. Service was great waiter checked on me many time during my visit. The food was out quick! I appreciated the flavors and everything about the food and ingredients were fresh and had a great quality! The prices are reasonable and you will leave satisfied. They have a bar area and cocktails are between $14-$15! Only downside a large section of fat was inside my carnitas taco which was a bit underwhelming but the flavors and tenderness of the pork to die for! Parking fills up fast but it's in a plaza there is ample parking but not directly in front! Great vibes and the meat was so tender and flavors were wonderful! Definitely must try I will be back!

I have been to a couple Kalaveras and not just this one but all of them as far as Long Beach, Northridge, Burbank, North Hollywood, and by far all of them are terrible when it comes to food and service. I also think the ambiance isn't the best. If it was an actual night club I would completely get it. But its not. Its just meant for food and drinks and even the prices are so over priced. I asked for 2 long Island (That didn't have any effect) for $45! At first I thought i was being ripped off but going to Kalaveras for years now for peoples birthdays or events. That's just there normal prices. Food is okay just as good as any other Mexican chain restaurant. Its nice for pictures but when it comes to sitting down for an event you have to yell across the table to have a conversation. If you don't mind the yelling, loud music, or overpriced drinks then this is the place. read more

We came with a big party of about 12 of us. The food and drinks came out fairly fast. The food had no flavor. 10/12 of us didn't like the food. Our bill was slightly off of $1000 and they tried to add things we didn't order like if we wouldn't notice. They had music so that was probably the only nice thing. We ordered shots and they did the whole "show" thing and gave the shots to the wrong people and still charged extra for the other shots to replace them. La comida es muy regular, nada que sorprenda, el servicio es pésimo si vas al brunch. Hay que estar pidiendo que sirvan más café o que se lleven los platos sucios, cosas que no hicieron (solo una taza de café por que pedimos y los platos sucios los tuvimos que pasar a otra mesa. Been going here multiple times .Great vibe.Yes ,i understand after a certain time it turns into a nightclub vibe .The staff is great but the manager needs to implement some type of dress code and drink limit .On May 12 around 3pm there was a group of ladies with their cheeks out and other bodily parts .I was carded for one drink which is fine .But how were these ladies sold so many beverages .They were in no condition to drive but still drove .And other clients do not need to see twerking and body parts read more

Came to the all you can eat Brunch on Sunday and it was fun/delicious. I was skeptical about coming since some Kalaveras have bad reviews about the service but our server Nathan was amazing. He was attentive and made sure that we always had a glass full for the unlimited mimosas. He also checked up on us and cleared out our plates to make sure we had space for more food. The service was really good (shout out to Nathan). The Birria tacos were good. Everything was seasoned. The ambiance is pretty chill. They play reggaeton in the background but you can still hold a conversation. We ordered the enchiladas de Cameron which were delicious. We also ordered 3 tacos. One of the following: carnitas (9/10), chicharrón (9/10), and barbacoa (6/10 would not try this again here-too dry). The tacos were accompanied by a chile de árbol sauce which was phenomenal IMO! For drinks, we tried the Guavarita marg which was OK (7/10) as the rim was a sweet Tajín taste. read more

Visited yesterday on Cinco de Mayo around 7pm and the hostess with the fake blonde hair completely ruined the experience. The moment I walked in, she stayed on her phone for several minutes until I finally had to ask if I could put my name down. When we came back in, she started slamming menus on the countertop and giving my family dirty looks the entire time for no reason. Customer service was beyond unprofessional and honestly embarrassing. If you hate your job that much, don't take it out on paying customers trying to enjoy a meal. read more

I had a disappointing experience at Kalaveras. After waiting 45 minutes for a table, I was frustrated to see the car next to me get seated immediately. I had to go ask the status of our table. When I approached the host (they were all just talking to each other), they recognized me and seemed flustered for skipping us, which didn't set a great tone for the evening. Once seated, we ordered and only received one drink instead of the two we ordered, causing another 10-minute delay for the second drink. The same with our meals. My partners meal got cold waiting for the second order to arrive. Our server didn't write down anything, we repeated our order three times. He came back to ask again. It still came out wrong. It took an additional 20 minutes for the lomo saltado to come out and honestly, the service felt unprofessional, as if the staff were poorly trained. Overall, a very disappointing dining experience. I had very high hopes for a Kalaveras in a very popular area. Will visit again but not any time soon. read more

Lomo Saltado was delicious, it was different, using sweet potato. Goberbador tacos were fantastic. Ceviche and aguachiles were perfect. Service was quick. If you're looking for a birthday party place, this is the spot. They go all out for your bday. Very glad to have them in Northridge. read more

Took the wifee out for a Sunday brunch / buffet. Wait was not bad, seated within 10 mins. Waiter was nice, nothing special. Decent selection of options, however 80% of what I tried was bland. Manager came by, asked how everything was, shared my opinion on the food. He stated, they just opened, and are in the process of perfecting their menu / recipes (nice guy). After tip, for 2 people, north of $90. Will hold off returning, until they perfect their recipes. Atmosphere and decor was nice. read more

We stopped by Kalaveras in Northridge on a quiet Monday afternoon. The place was pretty empty, but that's understandable for the day and time. We were seated right away, and our server came over almost immediately--great start with friendly and prompt service. We ordered drinks and appetizers to kick things off. I got the mango slushy, which was refreshing and not overly sweet--just right. For appetizers, we chose the taquitos (Tinga and potato), and they were excellent--crispy, flavorful, and seasoned really well. The real standout, though, were the Asada nachos. The carne asada was marinated beautifully, bursting with flavor. Honestly, those nachos set a high bar for the rest of the meal. For entrees, I ordered the Carne Asada plate, and my husband went with the quesabirria tacos. His dish was fantastic--rich, savory, and full of depth. Unfortunately, my plate didn't quite hit the same mark. I was expecting the same flavorful asada as the nachos, but it seemed like a completely different preparation. The seasoning was flat in comparison, and it just lacked the bold taste I was hoping for. It felt like a missed opportunity. Overall, the experience was mostly positive. The service was fast and friendly, and the appetizers and my husband's entrée were top-notch. My only real disappointment was the inconsistency with the carne asada. I had a deeply disappointing experience at this restaurant and would strongly caution others before making a reservation here. I made a reservation for my birthday party a week in advanced. Despite arriving on time with my entire party and checking in at the front, we were later told that our reservation had been given away and that we had to join the waitlist and wait an additional 2 hours for a table. There was no clear explanation, no apology that felt sincere, and no effort to accommodate us after the mistake. It completely defeated the purpose of making a reservation in the first place. What made the situation worse was the staff's behavior. They were dismissive, disorganized, rude, and outright unprofessional in how they handled the issue. Instead of taking responsibility, it felt like they were brushing us off and treating the situation as if it were our fault. Overall, the lack of basic organization and respect for us made this an incredibly frustrating experience. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Our server had difficulty understanding English, which made it hard to communicate even simple requests like asking for mineral water. It took a very long time just to get our drinks, and the birthday flan we requested was either forgotten or took so long that it ruined the celebration. The food was also very disappointing. Every dish we ordered was unappetizing and did not taste good. To make matters worse, the staff came across as unfriendly, unwelcoming, and lacking any enthusiasm or customer service. No one seemed interested in making our experience enjoyable. We came looking forward to celebrating a special occasion, but we never even got the chance because of the poor service and disappointing food. 1 Star Last night was our first time visiting and it was very disappointing. I called in the morning and was told that although they were no longer taking reservations due to a live band event, they had saved spots for walk-ins and suggested we come around 8:00 PM for a small party of 4. When we arrived, one of the hostess told us they were NOT taking walk-ins until maybe 10 - 11PM or until all reservations were seated. This completely contradicted what we were told on the phone. If that had been explained clearly, we would have saved ourselves the drive. On top of that, the front staff was not very friendly. Unfortunately, our first experience was not a good one and we left. So if you don't have a reservation on one of their special event nights, I suggest saving yourself the trip and time. read more

The food is delicious, the drinks are well made and not watered down, and they are very generous with their portions. Their happy hour is amazing, with great deals on both food and drinks, making it an even better value. What really stands out is the friendly and attentive staff. Everyone is welcoming and makes you feel appreciated from the moment you walk in. We've been there twice already, and both experiences were excellent. Great food, great drinks, great service, and fair prices. It's rare to find all of that in one place. The happy hour deals were also great, definitely worth checking out if you want good drinks and bites without breaking the bank. The only hiccup was at the start -- service was a bit slow, and I waited quite a while for my drink. But once we got a new server, things completely turned around. I haven't been there since they changed owners and decided to give it a try. Apparently, the chef and the waitresses are the same so I was thinking the food would be the same as before. This time when I went, I ordered the chicken taco and shrimp taco. The chicken taco was cold and contained small pieces of dark meat thrown into a taco. Usually tacos use shredded or stewed chicken so this was not the norm for me. The minute I bit into it, I could taste the chicken was old and gamey. I bit into a large piece of grissle from the bone and almost threw up. I took one bite of the shrimp taco and could not identify the flavor. It definitely wasn't cilantro, but some other kind of herb I didn't recognize. I ended up throwing it away. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, I will never go back. I'm sorry, but I cannot recommend this place
