Their policy for separate tabs is ridiculous. They say we can't divide the tabs, but I don't understand how they can't do that by just speaking to their customers individually. They double charged me for items that were already charged to another individual at our table , and then kept that on the receipt they gave us we ended up paying almost $300 for items that were already paid by different individuals I am not OK with double charging and making a hassle for a separate checks . I understand it might be easier for them to put everything on one tab, but that should not be imposed on the customers. On top of that they automatically charge for tip. Went for my father and grandfather's birthday and it was a blast (their birthday song is one of the best I've seen).The food was perfect (highly recommend the dragon roll) and our server, Carlos, was very attentive and very kind. I wanted to share my recent experience at KALAVERAS restaurant. I placed an order over the phone for 4 burritos, lomo saltado, and tacos governador. However, when I arrived to pick up my order, there was a mix-up. The host repeated my order for me, and that's when I realized it was incorrect. I informed the general manager about the mistake, but instead of addressing the situation professionally, he started speaking Spanish to the host, unaware that I also understood the language. I expressed my concern about the wrong order, but the manager abruptly walked away in the middle of our conversation. After a while, he returned and publicly reprimanded the host in front of me, insisting that she must repeat phone orders three times in the future. This place is very loud, but has a cool ambiance. The hostess acts like she'd rather be anywhere else and is "too good" for her job. This is my 1st time visiting this restaurant. My friend decided to check this restaurant out since it's new in our community. Because it's her birthday she also wanted to celebrate here. There are some good points and there are some bad points so here we go. The decor is nice, unique & fun. The prices are reasonable, and I was surprised to find out that the $5 tacos (each) were part of a Happy hour special (for $3.50 each instead) which they didn't have a menu for anywhere. The tacos were a nice size, delicious and they were able to accommodate my weird pepper allergy, which was a plus (because when I originally called the restaurant, I was told that all meat was delivered to them pre marinated.) But the grilled steak was not hot by the time I got it and the waitress wasn't around. The ambiance is nice, their set up is unique with a mix of colors, including vibrant neons. The restaurant is one big area with a bar in the center and tables and booths surrounding it. The chairs with the tables aren't comfortable, and I kept hitting my elbows. The tables were fairly close to the booths. The staff was nice, but not always attentive. There are fake roses on the walls, a flat screen on the wall, showing music videos of Hispanic music artists. My director was told that they're would be live music, this wasn't the case. There are colorful cylindrical hanging lights that change color, but it was a bit hard to read the menu with the lack of some extra lighting. It's also a bit loud to have any real conversation without yelling across the table. My friend and the rest of the table enjoyed the food, which was great. She told us that she was confused about what she was told prior to coming and she she arrived. On the phone, she was told that reservations could not be made, and when she arrived, they asked her why she didn't make a reservation. I understand that this is a brand new restaurant, and people are being trained, but first impressions are so important, especially to have the right info. They did a great job celebrating my friends birthday with a shot and a flaming thing coming from a cup, a big sign and signing staff. It's a nice restaurant, pretty decor, some staff that needs to be attentive with one last mix up. So i got my bill, As I mentioned, I was presently surprised to see that my tacos were on a happy hour special. My bill was $7.51, and I gave a $10. I was given $2 back, but there was no change. So I asked the waitress and she told me that they didn't give change back at all. That their role was if the bill was under 50 cents, they would round it down to say $7. If the bill, like mine, was over 50, they round up to $8 and give change accordingly. I guess with this plan, they should just automatically round up or down on all our bills. This was a bit weird for me. She asked if I wanted an additional dollar, but the damage was done... I told her no and told her that since they had taken and kept my 49 cents , I would only be giving her a dollar. So yes, her tip was 1.49. 4 stars is generous but it's was their 3rd day of being open. They have work to do. Happy to see a new eatery in Simi Valley. Unfortunately, we are a "great-food" desert so having a new restaurant come to town is always promising. It's a very busy Saturday night. The wait for table was about 1 hour to 1.5 hours. We left our name and headed to the bar since two stools had become open. There is a very nice selection of tequila, mezcal, and whiskey drinks. They have vodka as well if you prefer that spirit. The margarita flights are popular. You get a tasting of (4) small margs ($35 - mango - pepino - piña - fresa). I wanted a larger drink so elected to go with the full size options from the menu. I tried a little of everything. My Whiskey choice was "GUAYABERA" $16 (whiskey - Guava - pineapple nectar). Next I had the "FUEGO DE DRAGÓN" $18 (habanero-infused mezcal - pomegranate- agave - lemon - cherry bitters). This was my favorite drink of the night. I ordered another at our table and it came smoking inside a coffin!! Then had a "CHAMOYADA" $14 (traditional silver tequila - chamoy - mango purée). Finally, was talked into ordering LA VELA $18 (Serrano infused tequila - mango - pineapple - cucumber -lime juice) from their "secret" menu. Unfortunately they didn't have all the ingredients to make the drink properly. Apparently it's supposed to come on fire. For food, had the enchiladas verdes. They were tasty. A chicken-cheese enchilada served with green sauce, rice and beans. I wish that it would've had some more beans and rice considering they were $20. We waited about an hour and half but luckily we sat at the bar. Overall we had a great time. Kalaveras is a party atmosphere with great food and drinks. My favorite was the pepino (cucumber) margarita. My favorite drink was the Horchata Colada, absolutely delicious! Sweet and strong. I ordered the tacos which were a little disappointing. The tortilla wasn't cooked all the way. The carne asada (4/10) didn't have much flavor, it got soggy and honestly they put 3 pieces of meet which I thought was a joke. The chicharron (4/10) was soggy as well. It wasn't crispy like it is supposed to be. The shrimp (7/10) was tasty it was soggy as well but due to the sauce. The mushroom (9/10) was surprisingly delicious. It had great flavor and was paired well w its toppings. My bf enjoyed his enchilada, I did try the beans and rice which were really good. My sister had ceviche which was bland and had no flavor. My uncle had the pasta which he really liked. Service was good from the food runners to the hostesses and waiters. Our first experience here was really good, the older lady was our waitress and she was amazing, checked in on us, took our order in a timely and professional manner, asked if we want water, etc etc. second visit, the younger lady was nice but we had to wait sooooooooo long to see her, she checked in on us every 30 minutes.
