Very cute mom and pop joint serving vegan food! We went for breakfast after a wedding in the area and ordered the breakfast burrito and acai bowl. There was only one person serving, working the counter, and cooking in the kitchen and wow was she efficient! We had to wait a little for the food but honestly given the staffing it was not at all as long as I expected. The acai bowl was yummy, but I've had better - the base had icy chunks and they added about a full half cup of peanut butter on top (which might be a plus for some). The breakfast burrito was HUGE, definitely enough to split. The soy chorizo was delicious and the tortilla was crisped up which was really nice. The only thing is I am not a big fan of vegan cheese, and there was a generous amount in there, which made it a little goopy.

We picked up a couple acai bowls, fries and a smoothie and they were okay. They were extremely overpriced in my opinion. 44$ for the 4 items. The bowls were sooo small too they weren't worth the cost tbh. Cute place but likely won't be coming back. Also we ordered "Kali's Açaí Blended Acai Berries, Banana,Berries, Strawberries, Granola Banana, Granola with coconut flakes." Which as you can see in the photos it's even missing strawberries or the granola with coconut flakes

What a blessing Kali's Garden is to the Julian community! Some recent meals I've enjoyed were kitchari (Indian rice with lentils and spices), a massive, savory, hearty breakfast burrito, luscious coconut curry ramen, decadent Jackfruit asada fries, comforting pozole, an excellent lasagna, amazing bbq jackfruit burger and the best chana masala I've ever had. Every day there are several specials. The chef is excellent and generous to the clientele. I've seen a complaint on here that the food is too salty, which is absurd. The seasoning and flavors are on point. I've also seen a few complaints that the service isn't great, which is also wrong. The people are very welcoming, friendly and hardworking. The food is fresh and made to order, so it's not fast food. But it comes out quickly enough and is always hot and delicious. It gets busy everywhere in Julian on the weekend, so plan accordingly. And the most ridiculous complaint is the person who is mad that they couldn't get dairy in a plant-based cafe :D Every other one of a dozen places within 2 blocks where you can get a coffee offers dairy milk, and this person is upset at the only vegan place within 30 miles for not having half and half? Folks, there's a reason Kali's Garden has a strong average of 5 stars. Ignore the few haters and take the word of the majority on this one. Don't miss it!

3.5 STARS: If you're like "wait, is this the same place as the coffee shop from before?". It's the same location but different ownership, menu & vibes. If you were looking for that simple small town coffee shop with games in the back room, unfortunately, that does not exist anymore. In place, we have the new Kalis Garden (not a bad thing! Just completely different if you were looking for the coffee shop that used to be here). Let's talk about the coffee: Everything on the menu here is vegan which means they only use oat, almond and soy milk in lattes. We noticed the same employee making the drinks as the last shop here so the lattes were good if you're used to oatmilk being the main base. Now the food: I felt like all food items were generously sized and tasted great! The breakfast burrito was great (I recommend adding guac!). And the avocado toast came with 3 slices and had a cilantro forward taste (would be even better with a splash of lemon on it.) The only issue was how looonnngg it took for the food to come out and we went first thing in the morning before the rush Overall ambiance: Not going to lie we were disappointed when we first heard the old shop was replaced but we thought we'd give the new place a try! The overall vibe of the shop felt like meditation/yoga. With crystals, tapestry, and ambient meditation music playing. If that's what you're into, you'll love it here! It wasn't your usual "coffee shop" feel so we will be exploring new "go to coffee spot" for our Julian trips.

Was so excited to see our hotel was right next door to a vegan restaurant!! I got the breakfast burrito and my bf got the skillet and both were delicious. Also got a freshly squeezed juice (try the sunrise juice you won't regret it) and a smoothie. All around great place and the decor is also very nice :)

As a family who is predominantly plant based, it was literally a sign that we saw Kali's Garden as we arrived into Julian. The food is delicious and healthy! The also have a pay it forward board for those who may be going through a difficult time and need a coffee pick me up. The service was great. They even came out to double check to make sure the yakisoba wasn't too spicy for the kids. A definite place to come back to!

So glad there's plant based options in Julian. We had the breakfast burrito (HUGE btw) and asada fries. Both were so good. The asada fries were bbq flavor. Also had the sunrise juice. Also very good. When leaving Julian I stopped for an iced latte and apple chai latte. There were also pastries we didn't get to try. I'm not vegan, but you honestly can't tell it's plant based. It's super cute inside. You order at the register then sit down with a number. There's seating inside and outside. So good, wish it wasn't so far away. We'll definitely be back. We were also there for the snow but there was no snow. The guy helped point us in the right direction. Friendly staff.

We found this place on Yelp and it had great reviews so we decided to give it a go. Honestly, it was just ok. The coffee was ok, nothing I'd get again since it tasted a little watered down. The açai bowls we were excited for since they make their own and it's not the sorbet stuff. The açai was good, but our bowl didn't come with everything it said on the menu so that was a bit of a let down. The location of this place is wonderful, it is in the heart of Julian and so it was accessible. It had great ambiance due to it's location and cute outdoor patio. The staff was extremely friendly and overall great. I would maybe return for the açai but get my coffee elsewhere.

This vegan restaurant was amazing! For those who read my posts, I will often say that when a restaurant has a small menu, that means the food is great! Small menu means they can master the few items they have available. This restaurant has done just that. They just recently opened in Julian, CA, and they have about 12 things on their menu. I had the Yakisoba, which is a Japanese noodle dish, and the Breakfast burrito. Both items were fantastic! Yakisoba was filled with fresh crunchy vegetables and a marinated, pan-fried tofu, which was the best tasting tofu I've ever had. The veggies were cooked to al-dente, which is so wonderful. There is nothing worse than over-cooked veggies in a dish. The homemade sauce in which it was already tossed, was yummy, and a bit spicy. I am not a vegan I love my meat, however, this dish was so filling and wonderful, I did not miss the meat. The breakfast burrito was filled with beans and vegetables, and it came with a homemade salsa and aïoli sauce, which were both vegan, of course. So to summarize, the food and service were excellent. The ambience was very rustic, farm-like. I sat outside with my dogs. It was clean and rather peaceful.

I am unbelievably happy to have this new plant based cafe in my hometown! Many great businesses have been housed here in the "coffee shop" and Kali's Garden is no exception. Same old great caffeine offerings but with oat, almond and coconut milks - as well as healthy matcha and various other teas, lemonade, etc. they have a full breakfast and lunch menu, as well as dairy free baked goods and pastries (the lemon blueberry scone is heavenly). We had the Lunch Burrito and BBQ Jackfruit Burger and I'm looking forward to trying other menu items like the Tofu Yakisoba. Julian has historically had very little to offer vegetarians and vegans, kudos to the new owners for leveling up the cuisine in this picturesque mountain town and showing even non veggie folks that this type of food can be not only healthy and good for the environment, but also incredibly delicious.

best service! they let us stay in their garden after closing hours during the mid afternoon and then opened back up for a couple who camd right when they were locking the doors to make them the breakfast burrito that they drove 1 hour for. The best people and the best food/drinks! definitely a place worth coming to. read more

A special place in Julian - one of the only complete plant based eateries out there. Though more importantly, the food is amazingly fresh, flavorful, and tasty. We ordered jackfruit tacos, eggplant lasagna, and the coconut based ramen. Everything was bomb . The only feedback is they should ask for spice level when the order is taken - we found the ramen a tad bit spicy. The place has spacious sitting outside and a few tables inside. It seemed busy, which kinda speaks for itself about the food. Staff was friendly, and I spoke to one of the owners, and he was pumped about the place and taking it to new heights - good for him . We learned about this place at Quiet Mind Lodge, where they cater. Worth to check this restaurant out when one is around the Julian area. Lastly, I would like to visit the place again if stars align, and meanwhile, I hope the place gets more power to maintain their goal of "Ethics, Integrity and Value" read more

Highly recommend, we have had nothing but great experiences here. The owners and every employee we've encountered have been very helpful and friendly. They have the best coffee in town in our opinion and the food looks amazing. Next time we go we will definitely be ordering food as well. We love the energy and vibes there, it's definitely our go-to spot in town. We also love the story behind the name, it's very fitting with what they've been doing there. They also have a big patio with tables and chairs right out front that's such a great spot to sit when the weather is nice. read more

Food is good no problem there. Not new owners fault. The kill for me is no half and half. I know I may sound high maintenance but half and half is essential. I'm local. Came here with the wife every weekend meeting other locals when regulars was running it. I'm just a little afraid this genre of food has kept the locals away. Yeah there may be some locals but not most that's my feeling. Prove me wrong on that. For context, when I go out to local Julian restaurants I look forward to meeting other neighbors. I also enjoy the local vibe in many local restaurants here in Julian. Not feeling it here yet. I've gone from every weekend and the previous owner knowing my name to a stranger. I know that's what happens when a change owners happens. I do agree with other reviews I think two other reviewers stated food is expensive 18 for a burrito, yikes. I do understand creativity, innovation and the rent for that spot is expensive. Yes I do know what the monthly rent is there. So bottom line, good tasty food, expensive tho and missing that Julian vibe for me. This seems to cater to outsiders of Julian. Like the city folks. To the owners, please continue to keep innovating, attract the locals. Welcome to Julian! read more

Vegan food for folks who don't like vegan If you don't choose vegan food because it's too "weird", this cafe will surprise you. The eggplant lasagna I had was so scrumptious and had the right texture and flavor for lasagna. My husband's yakisoba was really flavorful, too. Nice location away from the crowds. I'm all for offering plant-based CHOICES. But when you offer coffee, but not half and half, that is no longer a choice. You are deciding for us. We are locals and had high hopes after the hit or miss and very expensive Regulars Wanted sold/closed. We didn't think it could go from bad to worse, but it did, at least for us. We won't be back. read more

Very cute little cafe with vegetarian and vegan options. Staff was friendly. Service is very slow though. Ordered tofu yakisoba and I feel that I ate 100grams of salt from that dish. To be honest, if it wasn't because I really do not want to waste food, I'd dump that to trash and bought something else elsewhere. That dish cost about 20$. Also just saw other review about food is being salty. The level of salty is not what you can imagine. It's like they put half jar of the salt in the dish. I would say good comes with nice blend of veggies (very little veggies but good amount of tofu) but I can't taste anything but salty. Parking situation is tough. I didn't see any private lot parking as stated on yelp. I think their coffee/tea might be good but I didn't get any so can't say. personally, I don't recommend eating here but definitely cute to enjoy a cup of coffee in a nice seating area. Long line for restroom always.. I see a lot 5 star reviews only had one comment ever on yelp with no profile photo so I kinda suspect how real they are? If it weren't for those reviews, I'd not trying to find parking for 15 mins to come up to be super disappointed. read more

Was surprised to see that the coffee shop had changed, but was relieved that this place still offers great coffee! We ended up staying for breakfast in addition to our coffee. Everything was so delicious and was so fresh. I opted for the açaí bowl which was so delightful and my wife got the avocado toast which was equally as great and on some amazing bread. But would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal or some great coffee or tea! read more

Truly, some of the best tasting meals, plant-based or not, I've had in a while. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean, more roomy as you move to the dinning area. Now, the service is slower than you'd expect, but it is worth the wait as everything is prepared fresh. And you can taste it. We wish we had a Kali's Garden in San Diego. There were domesticated cats in the restaurant while we ate there. The only question the staff asked was 'are you allergic to cats' but made no effort to remove the cat from our table where she was licking around our food. Very unhygienic. We lost our appetite and left without finishing our meal. Very young and untrained staff; the main server was even upset at staff for letting the cats roam around but made no apology to us. Food was ok. read more

I've lived in San Diego for 25 years and my family has been going up to Julian once every several months to enjoy a country drive and to see what's going on up there. We've never found a restaurant or place to eat in or around Julian that was in any way special. But now we have. Kali's Garden could, and should, be in La Jolla!! Their food is fresh, healhy, and exquisite!! Matter of fact, I enjoyed my meal so much that I drove back the very next week just to eat at Kali's Garden again!! I told Rosy, the owner/chef, to make me something special. Something she thought I should try. She made me a plate of Jackfruit fries. I wasn't excited about the idea of a plate of fries, but trusted Rosy. The Jackfruit fries was SO DELICIOUS!!! A perfect mix and blend of flavors! Beyond awesome! I'm so glad I listened to her. And the healthy drink options are all just awesome! By far one of my favorite places in all of San Diego County!!! Treat yourself and eat at Kali's Garden. You will not be disappointed! read more

My Breakfast Skillet was delicious! Perfectly cooked potatoes, peppers, avocado, vegan cheese and a slice of sourdough bread. Everything was very fresh and the whole dish had a wonderful layer of seasoning. You would not know this was a vegan dish. The Soyrizo was crispy and put this dish over the top! read more

Great to have plant based options in Julian. The staff, especially Alex, is a great ambassador and pleasant to hear him explain the choices on the menu. Great coffee and great food in a relaxed and cozy restaurant. I had the breakfast skillet and an iced coffee. The skillet was extremely tasty. The coffee was ok. The first time I was ever served 1/2 toast. That's ok less carbs are better for me. I plan to return often. Thanks for being in Julian. The nice part is that it is all plant based. Many restaurants have vegan options that are like eating a consolation prize or option that is not their best well planned and plated dish. Here you get their best! read more

I went here about a couple weeks back and it's amazing to have a full plant based restaurant up in Julian! The workers there were amazing in service and speedy with the orders. Their jackfruit and mushroom tacos were amazing and I do recommend trying one of their specials. Lastly, The ambiance was nice and relaxing compared to most of the other chaotic food areas in Julian. Extremely delicious food! I'm not vegetarian and was a little wary about trying the jackfruit tacos but I'm so glad I did! You cannot tell that it isn't pulled pork as the seasoning is done so well. Great location as it is walking distance to all the shops. Would definitely recommend and the staff was very kind and considerate. read more

The food was absolutely the best vegan food anywhere in San Diego County. This is a true gem of San Diego County, to have found a great vegan place in one of the most rural parts of the county is crazy. The customer service was great. The workers here care about each customer that comes in. This is true customer service at its best. We got the tacos and burrito with extra salsa. The best vegan food I have tried anywhere. The ambiance is homie and cozy, it makes you feel as if you were in your own home enjoying a classy lunch/dinner. I will definitely be coming back to support this vegan business. read more

What an awesome addition to Main St in Julian! Everything here was a hit, from jackfruit tacos to yakisoba noodles to delicious coffee. The service was even better than the food though. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The crumbles on top added the bit of crunch with the soft gooeyness of the apple pie filling, The small scoop of ice cream covered it all, but I had to scoop the ice cream off to eat the pie.

We showed up at 1pm on Wednesday and it was quiet. In the past there was a big lunch crowd and the shelves were full of fresh baked breads and pies. Supposedly, breads are baked every other day now. I bought a loaf of Hawaiian sweet bread and it was at least a day old. I suspect more like 2 days old. The outside was starting to get hard while just the center was soft. There was an aroma of bread sitting around for a while. King's Hawaiian bread from Costco has a fresher aroma and has a fresher more vibrant flavor while you get twice as much bread for the price. Maggie misses the fresh baked fruit bars and were soft and full of sweet fruit flavor. Cashier told us they are only baked on Saturday now. We touched the fruit bars and they were all hard from sitting around half the week. It's sad as we loved stopping here after a trip to Julian for fresh baked treats and Doc Brown's Root Beer.
