We came for dinner on a Saturday and had a pleasant experience overall. The staff was friendly and efficient, and our food arrived promptly. My Chicken Vindaloo was flavorful, though it was a bit less soupy than I'm used to, and the potatoes were slightly firmer than I prefer. The restaurant itself is spacious and beautifully decorated with a traditional touch. It was a little disappointing to hear they no longer offer belly dancing, as that would have added to the atmosphere. After hearing from friends about this place for months, we can confirm this is one of the best Indian food places around. The saag paneer was delicious. Perfectly cooked with a beautiful and warm blend of spices. The paneer in it was just as tasty. Meanwhile, my partner was so surprised by how much spice was packed into the biriyani. The naan was nice and fluffy though I'd always like more garlic which is the only thing holding this back from being a perfect experience. Garlic basil naan: delicious piece of naan however the garlic was relatively bland and I couldn't pick it up. The naan itself was delicious, light, and fluffy by itself though. Tikka masala with chicken: generous portion of white meat chicken. The chicken didn't seem to be cooked in the tikka masala as the center of it was completely white but that makes sense as you can adjust the proteins. The flavor of the tikka masala was heavy with tomato - it almost seemed like the only ingredient was tomato. Overall an okay spot for Indian food but it doesn't seem authentic. read more

This place is such a gem. I've been here twice now and both times the service and food were fantastic. The food is super flavorful, served fresh, and comes out to you quickly. The servers I had were incredibly friendly and attentive. The ambiance is nice, it's a small restaurant so it's not super noisy or hectic. They usually have some sort of video playing softly in the background on a large TV, one time it was an Indian musical and another time it was an ASMR video of a guy preparing food on a frozen lake. If you're looking for a quiet, local, hole-in-the-wall gem of a restaurant to eat some incredible food, this is the place to try. We'll be back here quite a bit. read more

Just an FYI this place takes spice seriously - we did 4/6 level spice and it definitely packed the heat! Its a very simple interior (no AC). Samosas - delicious and pipping hot! only comment is that they did not have the green mint chutney but they did have tamarind. Aloo Gobi - the best aloo gobi I have had in Seattle. Finally an aloo gobi that has a saucier consistency! it was delicious. Chicken tikka masala - generous portions of chicken in a delicious masala sauce. Absolutely awful food - the fact that their entire restaurant was empty at the beginning of dinner rush should have been my first clue. PROS: - good location, plenty of street parking. Large spacious dining area - the owner was nice and gave me free lassi drink while we waited for food. He chats with everyone and tries to build a community. He will try to invite you and get you to dine in, I did not. CONS: - Absolutely rubbish, ill-prepared food. I cook better curries at home. The spices were not cooked down or tempered properly, so the dishes lacked flavor. The vindaloo did not taste anything like vindaloo, it was like eating boiled meat in some meagre ketchup and tomato broth. Disappointing. - The prices are outrageous, the portions are stingy and small. The owner clearly doesn't know anything about food. After chatting with him for hours (the kitchen was mercilessly slow), it was clear that he's a businessman and has other ventures. Owning a restaurant is just one of them, so his focus is not on the quality or preparation of the food but solely about profit. No self-respecting individual with Indian heritage would eat at Kalia let alone pay these prices for such mediocrity. Please head to Saffron Grill in Northgate for tasty Indian food. Harassed by the owner in 2023 and he had my negative review deleted on google. Back in 2023 I was picking up an Uber eats order from Kalia Indian cuisine. When I arrived to pick up the order, the owner approached me and insisted that I take a beer and take my phone number so he can give me food for my hard work the next day. Hindsight 2020 this wasn't a good idea, but I gave it to him and he said I could come in the next day at 2pm. Shortly after leaving the restaurant and picking up the food, he began to blow up my phone with calls and texts making sure that I would come. I was already nervous, but I figured I would just go pick up the food and leave. The next day comes I drive by the restaurant and park. I noticed when I drove by that it was dark inside so something told me to look up the hours of the restaurant and I found out it was still closed. I had a bad feeling so that made me look at the reviews and I had saw other reviews of women saying he offers to give them free food and take their phone numbers and harass them. Needless to say, I quickly turned my car back on and left. Who knows what he was going to do since he had me come to the restaurant while it was closed. Please avoid this place at all cost. There is a Reddit thread full of women saying the same thing happened to them. read more

Our waiter was friendly and when we all ordered Indian lagers, he brought 6 different types and offered recommendations and descriptions of each one. This place is amazing! I usually never write restaurant reviews but everything about the experience was so impressive. It was a very slow night and we ordered an appetizer, two types of bread, and two entrees. The food was all outrageously good and I'm very critical of food when I go out to eat. Everything was piping hot and fresh, cooked perfectly, and so flavorful!!!!! Excellent use of spices and heat and salt. To top it off, the waiter, who I will assume is the owner, was very kind and friendly with us and patient with our questions. He brought us TWO FREE MANGO LASSIS which were delicious and then a side of hot sauce and other sauces and then later, a sample of the spinach puree dish with their fresh made paneer cheese. It was so generous of him and we were very grateful. I will absolutely be going back with friends and family. We've been back several times to eat in the restaurant, as well as continuing to order for pickup/takeout. My husband and I have been huge fans of Kalia's food for many years - I am surprised I haven't already reviewed this place. Excellent food, definitely a step up from the typical Indian restaurant. You can really taste the thought and care that this establishment puts into preparing their dishes. The environment inside the restaurant is just okay, kind of lackluster, but we usually got take-out from Kalia even prior to the pandemic, and we got take-out for our dinner tonight, so we don't really mind that. I love that almost everything on the menu is Gluten-Free! We ordered all of my favorite meals from this place tonight - Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, and Lamb Rogan Josh. We split all 3 meals. They do only offer white rice on their menu, and we strongly prefer brown rice, so we make brown rice in our rice cooker at home prior to going to get take-out from this restaurant. When we get home, we put our Kalia meals over the brown rice, to make our dinner even more healthy and tasty. :) Easy to do and we don't mind it. Our friend Vineet was born and raised in India, and his wife Michelle is American but she has visited India several times with her husband, and Kalia's food has their seal of approval. We sometimes buy a gift certificate to Kalia for them as a present if they're feeling especially busy or stressed, and this simple gift has always been a hit. I've had Indian food that was home-cooked by Vineet's Mother when she was visiting them, and I must say, her food is much better than Kalia's food! However, we like Kalia probably better than almost any other Indian restaurant we've tried in the Seattle area, so we're very glad they're around. read more

Ordered take out form here for the first time and WOW. I was so surprised with the flavor in the butter masala and the sagg/palak paneer. I honestly think the butter masala (I got paneer) was probably my favorite butter curry around Seattle. It's also hard to get sagg/palak masala with a decent flavor as it's mainly spinach, but it had a lot of flavor as well! We also got garlic/basil naan which is hard to mess up and I got a mango lassi. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wasn't the biggest fan of the mango lassi. It had a little too much yogurt and not enough mango for my liking. Also, I'm not sure if it's cause I got it to go and maybe the ice melted, but it was pretty thin compared how i usually get it. Overall, I definitely love the food here and will definitely be coming back when I want some good Indian food (especially for the butter masala). read more

We ordered their:- Channa bhatura ($10.99) - The Channa curry made is very flavorful. The bhatura though is very oily. Samosa ($4.99) - They serve 2 pieces in a serving along with a sweet and a spicy chutney. It was OK, more on the milder side. Special curry ($10.99) - We got the curry with vegetables which comes with a side of rice. Few veggies like cauliflower and potato were slightly under cooked. Not a fan of their curry. Garlic Naan ($3.25) - It was decent. Overall, decent place to get Indian food. But the quantity of food they give in comparison to the price, is too less. read more
