    Firefly squid tempura
    Tara H.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. I love soba and Japanese food, so this was the perfect spot. I went here with my husband and we started with 2 small plates to share. Before we got our first dishes, they provided us with an amuse bouche which was chilled watermelon with seasoning. The king oyster mushroom was very good with a mixture of umami seasoning. It was firefly squid season - so we decided to get this in tempura. Their tempura is so light and tasty, I also loved the fresh seafood taste. My husband ordered their Kamonegi seiro. It was a dipping soba that came with a bowl of broth with a duck meatball. I ordered the shrimpcado bukkake. This was a cold soba noodle bowl that came with shrimp tempura and avocado. Both of these meals tasted great. We finished off with their strawberry rhubarb soufflé style cheesecake. This was also very good and I loved the texture of the cheesecake. It wasn't overly sweet and the perfect way to end our meal. I'd highly recommend coming here. Tip-you can make reservations ahead of time to secure a spot.

It's between a 4 and a 5 for me, but I'll lean 5 because the dishes are pretty unique! The dishes we ordered were the anago, uni shiso bomb, kamo-nanban, and cream of morel. They also give a complimentary amuse bouche! The anago was lightly fried and I love the curry salt that it came with. The uni shiso bomb was probably our fav! Uni + ikura, what's not to love? A little salty imo, but packed with flavor. I got the kamo-nanban and I thought it was good, but the highlight was the cream of morel. Super leek-y, creamy, and so delicious. Their soba is flat, whereas I'm used to round soba, but it's good nonetheless!

Came in for our 5:45 reservation. We started with the chawanmushi and smoked hamachi kama, and both were warm, comforting, and nicely done. Unfortunately the soba didn't live up to the same level. I ordered the tempura kake and while the tempura itself was crispy, the broth and noodles had very little depth or flavor and tasted pretty flat. We also tried the chestnut coffee custard for dessert. The crust was hard and stale, and it was paired with some orange ice cream that didn't really complement the custard, so the dish felt a little disjointed. Service was fine for most of the night, but the pacing toward the end felt rushed. When we were still deciding on dessert, we were told there was another seating after us, and once we finished we were quickly prompted with the check. I understand timed reservations and table turns, but it did take away from what could have been a more relaxed experience. Overall not a bad meal but the soba and the rushed ending made it less memorable than I expected.

Ordered a few items 1. Duck soba noodle. Warm broth is good. A lot of soba noodle but not a lot of duck pieces 2. Hamachi Kama. Pretty good and Smokey 3. Coffee chestnut custard. Oh my this is a flop. The mandarin sorbet doesn't go with this dessert at all. The coffee crisp is soggy and hard. Feels like it has been living in the fridge for a while. The service is good but there is a 20% tip added automatically regardless of the group size.

We came here around 8 pm on Friday without a reservation and had to wait about an hour. We didn't mind and decided to check out a nearby bar while we waited. I highly recommend making a reservation since it's a small restaurant. Their specialty is handmade soba noodles, and our server recommended ordering one dipping-style dish. My husband got the Matsutake Beef Sukiyaki, and I got the Birria Curry Nanban. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful, and we're already looking forward to coming back.

Was able to get a reservation for two. Small restaurant that I've actually been to when it was Art of the Table a longggg time ago. Service was excellent. We got a little free appetizer bite which was super nice. I got the signature duck noodles. Nice umami tasting broth. The kabocha app was very much like Korean wings. I'd def come back to try other things next time! Easy street parking as well.

One of the best meals I had in Seattle! It is a must and was great for a rainy night like the one we had. The space is very small but well worth the wait. Our total wait time was over 2 hours because we were 4 adults and one child with no reservations. We ended up checking out the brewery up the street during our wait and wrapped back around. The staff are all extremely nice and welcoming. Everything was flavorful and the noodles had the perfect bounce to them. We ordered a sake that we tried sharing with staff to no success, but instead, they came around with a shot of their spicy tequila! It was definitely a memorable last night in Seattle and i would definitely go again. MAKE A RESERVATION. PERIOD.

The restaurant was absolutely sweltering when we walked in, like a sauna. Much hotter inside than outside. There were overhead fans and standalone electric fans in the restaurant, but we were seated in a corner without any airflow (barring a window, but there was no breeze outside). We were sweating within seconds and it took over 5 minutes before we were served water - which is not out of the ordinary at all, but felt like forever since it was so hot. The food was all good and came quickly though. Tempura was crisp, mushrooms had an interesting sauce, and the cold soba noodles were fresh and delicious. Would have given 4 stars if not for the discomfort we experienced while there.

This place is wonderful. I went on an unusually hot day (90F), and although they definitely wernt built for the heat, they accommodated well with little personal fans for everyone. Wait staff is super friendly and the place is very cozy. They are known for their soba noodles and the one named "ship" or something adjacent was amazing. True fried nostalgic mochi and salmon roe with very good soba and broth. You can definitely tell the freshness of the soba in house. Fried pumpkin was my favorite side dish and my top pick, it was fantastic, although I really did enjoy the pickled and miso assortment as well. I would love to come back.

Fancy Japanese nook serving made to order soba and seasonal apps. The foie gras tofu was STELLAR!!! Make sure to properly mix the wasabi paste into the soy sauce before eating. The sharpness from the wasabi really cuts the fattiness and the foie gras is enhanced by the saltiness of the soy sauce. Burst of flavor. There is not much shrimp that comes with it though. Their soba is very fresh, they make it per order and don't pre-make / freeze the batches! It is more on the fully cooked side, but it is nice for the dipping soup because it's softer, almost like you're drinking the noodle. The Kamonegi seiro (duck + yuzu zest) was nice in flavor and adds a "darker" richness to the dipping broth. There wasn't much duck meat itself but the one duck meatball was nice and savory and the duck breasts weren't overcooked. Tastes best when warm so eat it while it's hot! Their menu is seasonal which keeps it quite interesting :) The service was really great the staff are well informed on the dishes and are very friendly. There is limited seating so I recommend reserving. The ambiance is also nice, great for dates and dim lighting.

We made a Friday 4:30p reservation as a group of 4. The vibes are very cozy tucked into a relatively quiet street. Servers were all nice and introduced the menu well. Overall the apps were unique and tasty and we really enjoyed them. The soba unfortunately was little underwhelming, so if the goal is just soba probably overhyped. Our favorite actually ended up being the dango tempura with black sesame ice cream. The ice cream has crunchy bits in it and pairs well with the hot dango. Other standouts were (1) uni shiso bomb which had crispy tempura and a smooth sweeter uni on top (2) foie gras tofu which was extremely creamy and unique in flavor. Apps - uni shiso bomb $13 - foie gras tofu $14 - kabocha squash wings $15 - duck meatball $18 Soba - kamonegi seiro $26 - kamo nanban $26 - nira beef $27 - salmon bukkake $29 Dessert - dango tempura $12

Small quaint Japanese restaurant that specializes in soba noodles. Overall, it was okay. I'd give them 3.5 stars, because the food was good but nothing spectacular. (I'm an Asian food snob - my hubs is Japanese and he makes Japanese food for me, including soba, so it's a hard comparison.) - Foie gras tofu was unique. A little heavier of a flavor than expected, but something I've never had before. - Coffee salmon tartare was a crowd favorite. Though I didn't care for the chive sour cream on the side. - Duck meatballs was mid. But always love a good sous vide egg. - Kabocha squash 'wings' was also a bit heavy, but a well made tempura. - Soba was ok. Sukiyaki was pretty sweet. Preferred the seiro dipping broth. But overall, underwhelmed. I guess I didn't know what I was expecting, something more umami? The noodle to have more texture? Not sure. Just recall it being ok. We enjoyed our meal, but don't think I'd seek this place out again. If someone else wanted to go, then sure, I'd be down.

My husband and I went to Kamonegi on a Tuesday at 5 PM- we did not have a reservation, but were able to grab seats at their back bar (they have 9 or so seats at their two bars available on a first-come, first-serve basis for those without reservations). At the time we arrived it wasn't too crowded but was starting to fill up by the time we left. The back bar experience was kind of nice because it feels like an izakaya where it's just you and the waiter. Our waiter was prompt to take our drink order, as well as our food order- he was very attentive and always seemed to know when we were ready to order! The pacing of the food was great- first an amuse bouche of pickled watermelon bites, then we ordered the uni shiso bomb appetizer and our main courses. The uni shiso bomb came first and was absolutely delicious- their tempura batter is great and it was my first time trying roe! Soon after, they brought our entrees of the Kamonegi seiro (cold noodles with hot duck breast and meatball broth) and for my husband, the fish curry seiro (cold noodles with hot fish curry broth). I greatly enjoyed the contrast of hot and cold, and we both ate every bite! They do bring hot water towards the end of your meal in case you want to drink the remaining broth as a digestivo which was a nice touch. For dessert, we ordered the Oreo tempura which was hot and fabulous- definitely gives state fair vibes as our waiter pointed out! We will definitely be back the next time we want to celebrate a life win- at $125 for two people it's a bit on the expensive side, but they do include a service charge so any additional tip is purely optional.

Kamonegi seiro dipping sauce - disappointing :(

    Ask the Community - Kamonegi

Can you tell us about the parking situation? is it street parking?

Hello! Yes, it's residential street parking.

Are these soba noodles gluten free? Buckwheat only?

Hello! At Kamonegi, we use a traditional nihachi ratio of 80 percent buckwheat and 20 percent all purpose flour to ensure that our noodles have a proper yield and buoyancy.…

Are any of the buckwheat noodles gluten-free?

No, unfortunately all of there noodles are made with 20% flour/80% buckwheat. This fact is printed on the menu.

Does this place any kind of Omakase?

    No, it's a noodle shop.

The reservation system starts with parties of 2. What if I just want to come in solo? Does anyone in the community have experience coming to Kamonegi as a party of 1? Were you able to make a reservation? If walk-in, what was the wait? Thx.

Walk-ins are welcome. Waits at peak dinner times can be up to an hour.

I see that reservation is $10 a person, will that go towards the bill?

The reservation website may have indicated that, probably in case you do not show up for the reservation, but we were never charged the $10 to my knowledge. Our final bill did not mention anything about $10 being deducted either. Hope that helps!

Since my last review the restaurant has closed and reopened, and expanded their menu, to now include more dumplings and varieties of noodles. They also now have a very handy duo of ordering kiosks, which you order at prior to sitting down. I found their kiosks easy to use, which isn't always a given. This being my first visit back in a while, I had to get the spicy cumin lamb biang biang noodles. However I had to try some dumplings, so we shared the lamb dumplings, while my dinner buddy had the spicy cumin lamb rice noodle soup (the same kind of noodles you'd get at a ten second yunnan noodle type of place). They also now have a complimentary side dish bar that has seaweed salad, peanuts, and kimci, as well as some condiment type things like scallions and minced garlic. I helped myself to some seaweed salad to nibble on while waiting for our food, and it was good although food comes out quickly enough that you don't necessarily have to rely on it unless you're really chomping at the bit. The spicy cumin lamb biang biang noodles are just as good as I remember. The biang biang noodles here are perfectly chewy, and the rest of the dish has a lovely flavor aside from just spice. They're generous with lamb and cabbage which add a lot of textural variety to the plate. The lamb dumplings were the sleeper hit of the meal, filled with juicy, tender hunks of lamb surrounded by toothsome clearly hand-rolled wrappers. Absolutely do not skip the lamb dumplings. My dinner buddy really enjoyed her rice noodle soup with spicy cumin lamb, which I think would be a great option on a cold day. Everything is pretty much self serve here, so don't expect full service -- although they did stop by to refill our water once. Writing this sucks and also I feel like I'm giving a completely honest and fair review of last night (Friday, June 19, 2026) from 7 to 8:30pm ish. Two hairs - one in my kaisen champon, one in my partner's niku udon. A dead bug in the niku udon. A staff member walking the floor actively bleeding from his nose with a napkin stuffed into it. Any one of these on its own would have been a rough night. All three in the same meal is something else ‍ The kitchen is small and open so you can see and hear everything, which meant we also got a front row seat to the chef yelling at his staff multiple times throughout the evening. The team was clearly working hard and seemed genuinely understaffed, but the kitchen felt like it was coming apart at the seams. We were in line to order for about five minutes, during that time we heard the employee at the register say to the man in front of us that there is no more summer special cold udon flight. Bummer, but totally understand. The menus are acrylic boards at the ordering counter, there were two for the two specials and they were left up when we went to order. The employee told me that unfortunately they have run out of the other special (not the flight). She turned around to do something else for a bit, came back, so I ordered the flight and she said they don't have that either. LOL okay!! No worries! I asked if any of the udon can be made cold? She asked the head chef. He yells back that he has no time for this. Like a good one minute lecture, yelling at the staff. So sorry I made him yell at this poor girl I ordered kaisen champon and my partner ordered the niku udon. We waited for a good 30 mins for our food. Food is good but there are hairs and a bug ‍ During our time waiting the water wasn't ever filled (it's self serve) so after our food came I asked for water three times, kept getting "I'll refill it". The chawanmushi showed up 20+ minutes after our food, basically as we were finishing. And they don't have to-go containers, which fine, but worth knowing. I've given this place real chances. Last night felt like a hygiene issue, an understaffed kitchen, and a service breakdown all stacked on top of each other. Usually we go during lunch so maybe that's my recommendation moving forward - I'm giving this place a rest from the rotation for now.

The regular tonkotsu ramen stood out for its deep umami flavor without feeling overly heavy, and the noodles had a great texture that held up well against the broth. The vegan options also stand out, including miso-based bowls with flavorful broths that give non-pork options more depth than many ramen shops offer. The toppings are generous, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked to that perfect jammy consistency. Beyond ramen, the menu has a few sides that complement the meal well, including gyoza that came out crisp and well filled. We also grabbed mochi ice cream for something sweet afterward, a light finish after the rich broth. The seasonal ramen options are worth checking out since they add variety beyond the standard bowls, giving regular visitors a reason to come back and try something new. Service is generally quick and friendly, especially considering how busy the restaurant gets. The ordering system is straightforward, and the staff handles the constant flow of customers efficiently. The team kept the pace moving without making the experience feel rushed, and they were attentive to refilling water and checking in on the table. The biggest downside is the popularity, since the lines can sometimes feel long for a relatively quick meal, but the wait tends to move faster than expected given the efficient turnover. Ramen Danbo is a reliable spot for a satisfying bowl of ramen in Seattle. The customizable bowls, strong broth, and consistent noodle quality make it a place worth visiting, although planning around busy hours can make the experience much better. The balance of customization and quality means you can dial in your bowl exactly how you like it, and the focused approach to the menu keeps the attention where it belongs.

This place is a true gem, serving satisfying, delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere at an affordable price. The restaurant looks small from the front, but space is used efficiently and they manage to fit quite a bit of seating into not that large of a dining room. Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much. There are so many other items on the menu that I'm eager to try, so I will definitely be back.

My wife and son highly recommended this place as a tasty place they found…read more.. After my son's fencing tournament where he stabs his friends... we went on the adventure. The start of the journey began with the requisite parking fiasco and issues that are perpetual in the Seattle ID...but that should never, and I mean never, stop an important mission like finding a truly delicious noodle restaurant. When we went in, it was pretty empty. We were immediately sat, and ordered. The hot jasmine tea quickly followed. Our Calamari came out quick and was delicious to the point I nearly had to fight my son for the last piece. I quickly surrendered as he does stab people...see above...he parried my fork and stabbed the last piece before quickly finishing the move. Our mains came out shortly after we finished the calamari. The 14yo ordered beef brisket noodle soup. He said it was delicious, but too spicy after he added too much chili oil. The wife scoffed at the idea that there's such a thing as too much chili oil and ate some of his soup. This was after she dug into her hot pot. I did get a chance to sample the delicate pork pieces and the flavorful rice. The slightly crispy rice at the bottom of the pot were so delicious. I had the Singapore style fried noodles. Really tasty. The noodles had so many flavors from the vegetables to the meats (shrimp, chicken meat & egg, and pork) and the sauce. I enjoyed the meal, and look forward to discovering more dishes to try on our adventures trying to find parking. JuFeng, thank you for the delicious meal!
