I enjoyed a superb meal, albeit an expensive one. The presentation was great and each dish was explained to us by the food runner. They offer an okakase option, but it wasn't like your typical experience. I was told that it's basically endless, while the chef and server choose items for you and you'll pay for each individual item that is ordered for you. I opted to choose my own items and was happy with that. I was very impressed by their quality of fish within a land locked state. 5-6 items and 2 alcoholic beverages totaled about $150 after tax and tip.

Great experience from beginning to end at Kampai. When we walked in we were greeted right away and then seated. We sat at the Sushi bar and had an awesome server who was very sweet and attentive. I love a good Old Fashion and love the variation in flavors, so the waiter recommended the Open Sesame cocktail which was perfect for this dining experience. We ordered the following items; Akami, Buri, Unagi and Seared Salmon Belly Sushi. We also ordered two Hand-rolls ;Sake Avocado and Spicy Scallop-Avocado and two full rolls; Gros Ventre and the Crypto. Our appetizer was the Gomae (spinach) and we had the Gindara( black cod) entree. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly!!!!! We will definitely go back next time we are in town!

TLDR: The best upscale Japanese food in Jackson. Beautiful, modern Asian aesthetic inside, and the food is just perfection. You can't miss the house salad and nasu eggplant for appetizers, and I have a soft spot for their sweet black cod dish as an entrée. ------ FOOD: 1. [Must Try] House Salad (5/5) - So good we ordered a second one after we tried this. Amazing texture, delicious dressing, felt relatively healthy too. A perfect appetizer. 2. [Must Try] Nasu (eggplant) (5/5) - Eggplant lovers must order this. It come with an addicting miso glaze so if you're trying to watch yourself, you can also order the glaze on the side. I didn't think it was too sweet to have the dish prepared as is though. 3. Black Cod (4.5/5) - The only reason why this is a 4.5 and not a 5 is because this also has that traditional, sticky miso glaze, but it's thicker and sweeter on this so it can be a lot for some people. I personally loved it, and the glaze aside, this cod was melt-in-your-mouth quality. I would ask for lighter sauce next time but this is still almost perfection. Plus a large serving! 4. Crispy Brussels (4.5/5) - Really unique Brussels dish! Comes with salmon caviar/roe that bursts in your mouth as you eat the Brussels sprouts. Gives it that fish / benito flavor that works well with an Asian-inspired Brussels dish. 5. Crypto Sushi Roll (4.5/5) - The seared wagyu on top has a great smokiness that gives this roll character 6. 10 pc Chef Choice Sashimi (4/5) - Great selection of tuna, yellowtail, scallop, black cod, and salmon sashimi 7. Hamachi Serrano (3.5/5) - Not the best I've ever had. I think was too strong on the soy and not enough on the yuzu? Others in the group really liked this though ------ SERVICE: * Top notch. You know this place is attentive and thoughtful. * They were constantly coming by to refill drinks and clear the table of any empty dishes or other small things ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Absolutely beautiful, modern, cozy Asian interior * Has a few different dining spaces all with slightly different vibes but all would have been great to sit at * I didn't feel like it was too crowded such that you could overhear what other tables were saying * Lots of street parking outdoors but by night there are lots of people trying to park so you may need to look elsewhere nearby to park

Although we had a rough start with the hosts not being able to accommodate us in the main dinning room, we had to wait a couple of hours and it was totally worth it. We sat at the sushi bar with a view of the massive bonsai tree in the middle of the dinning room and the Chefs gave a phenomenal experience that did not disappoint. Highly recommend and cannot wait to go again.

Best dining experience I had in my visit to Jackson. I was supieses to find a sophisticated; yet unpretentious dining experience like this here. I'm guessing most people are thinking they're visiting Jackson, WY for sushi. Well this place is legit. Chef (believe name is Chris) and Owner comes from San Francisco. He brought the goods with him. He was personable. Answered questions. Tempo of the food came out perfectly. I don't have a complaint on any of the pieces we had. Fatty Tuna was divine. Absolutely the best bite. When I'm back, I'm make a bee line to this place. As you might imagine, don't leave your wallet behind, because you will need it. P.S. Hit me up with you're landing in Austin. I was to be a first customer!

Words cannot describe how amazing the food is here. One of the best restaurants if not the best restaurant I have ever been to. My boyfriend and I loved this place so much that we came back 2 days later. The sushi chefs even recognized us and gave us extra special food. We sat one night at the dining room table and one night at the sushi bar. Both were a great experience and service, but the sushi bar was 1000x more special. The sushi chef can really cater to your taste and were super talkative and friendly. It's hard to choose what my favorite foods were. All the fish were incredibly fresh and high quality. The chef special (nigiri or sashimi) are a great price. My favorite appetizers were the sunomono and the gyoza. This is a fine dining restaurant, but I felt like the price was very fair for the quality and the service. We spent about $100/person (not including tip).

If you're in Jackson Hole and love sushi, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. It was so amazing that we ended up going twice during our vacation--we just couldn't stay away! The sushi is incredibly fresh. The sushi chefs are not only talented but also super friendly. They make you feel welcome the moment you sit down. For the best experience, you should definitely dine at the sushi bar. Watching the chefs at work is a show in itself, and they're more than happy to chat and give recommendations. On my second visit, I tried sushi with caviar and foie gras, and it was mind-blowing--the combination of flavors and textures was unforgettable. The service was top-notch, with a team that knows how to take care of you without being intrusive. If you're looking for a unique and delicious sushi experience in Jackson Hole, this restaurant should be at the top of your list.

Forced to reconsider and calibrate expectations and ratings. It's a resort town but trying to consider location and pricing makes it even hard to assess. Space is modern but comfortable. Service is kind and professional. Loved the tree in the center of the dining room, with the shadows projected on the ceiling. I understand it only opened a few months ago so everything is quite new. Arrived a little early for a reservation for 3 and seated in the lounge area, offered water and had the chance to order and sip on drinks. Eventually seated at the counter in front of Chef Peter, and we were able to order sushi directly with the chef himself. Ordered a good mix of rolls, a cooked miso cod plus 2 orders of the sashimi combo. Our added bites were sea perch (I almost always get this if it's available) and o-toro (noticed this was almost ice cold). The o-toro seems like a no brainer if you want tuna at all, as the lean tuna was $10, chu-toro at $11 and o-toro at $12. Sashimi cuts were very generous, in terms of thickness. However, this seemed to highlight one noticeable flaw, which was how watery the cuts were. Not sure if thinner slices would have saved it but was noticeable even in the toro roll. That said, you get your value in quantity, and the flavors were on point. Otherwise, the rolls were pretty good, with many strong flavors which could be good or bad depending on preferences. The wagyu on the crypto roll (only on half of our order) was lost. It might have provided some richness but as with the other rolls there was a lot going on. Cod was cooked well. Chef Peter was quick to respond to sushi orders and kind enough to explain that dark sushi rice was colored from aged vinegar. It didn't have the texture of brown rice or taste like soy sauce so I was curious, but our rice were mostly in rolls so I assumed it could have been sauces. However, we did see a massive order of 11 toro hand rolls with caviar for another party and could clearly see the color of the rice, so we had to ask. We ended with a black sesame vanilla ice cream, and was gifted an additional hojicha softy as well, apparently a personal favorite of the chef. Both were absolutely delicious, and that's coming from someone that doesn't normally care much for dessert. For the price, the wateriness of the fish would normally get a harsher review from me. I understand that most fish need to be frozen to a certain extent but there's definitely a difference in the texture vs. examples elsewhere. Still, considering the location, the quality and comfort of the facilities, along with the friendly staff and service, it adds up to a strong experience overall and a warrants a solid recommendation. It would be unfair to compare to omakase quality in Tokyo and New York even if the prices start climbing into the same territory. Considering the expected clientele there will definitely be customers with even more experience with sushi and I would be very curious about their opinions. For what it's worth, one dining companion was ready to replace a reservation at another spot in town with a repeat booking here.

Such a beautiful spot in Jackson that has such a comfortable but posh feel inside. The dining room felt more like you were in a friend's modern home/kitchen. Service was so friendly and prompt from the moment we got in. They got drinks going while we waited for our table to be ready and food came out quickly. The sushi is as good as it gets; truly some of the best sashimi I've had in my life. So melt-in-your-mouth flavorful and fresh! Even got seconds on the salmon it was so good. The cold smoke cocktail with maple sake was also fantastic and such a unique flavor, highly recommend! 10/10 spot, definitely snag a reservation when you can!

The restaurant is SO beautiful and truly a wow moment when you walk in. We greeted by our waitress Bestie and what a rockstar she was! We were informed that it was Happy Hour so we took advantage of the drink & food specials and we are so glad we did. Easily one of the best margaritas I've ever had!! The Tuna Crudo was so delicious, fresh, and fantastic. We decided to split the Cucumber Salad and the kitchen split the plates which was much appreciated - It was also fresh and amazing. We decided to also split the Miso Black Cod and the portion was HUGE! For the price, especially in Jackson, the portions were more than generous and for the quality of food... An amazing deal! We finished the night with a Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet (not pictured because let's be real, it was gone in 60 seconds haha)! Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough to visitors or locals to Jackson. 10/10 across the board!! Thank you Bestie and The Kitchen for a fabulous experience!

The bar seating was available and allowed us to watch the kitchen staff hustling. Once seated, we waited for Beste to take our order, about 10 minutes. She was MIA most of the evening. Our evening started with the braised beef bao bun with carrot, kimchi, sesame seeds, kimchi aioli, and pickled onions. The flavor was good but it was grossly over-sauced and extremely messy. The bao bun was delivered broken in half. The lemongrass flavored pork dumplings were accompanied with onions, radishes and fermented black bean chili crisp. The dumplings were boiled and had no crispness from being pan seared which left a doughy taste. Our favorite was the Caeser salad with gem lettuce, tahini Caesar, aged parm and nori dusted rice crisp. A truly crisp bite with little taste crunches from the nori and tasty tahini Caesar. Homerun! Our final dish was the shrimp toast with kimchi aioli, pickled jalapeno, toasted sesame seeds on a milk bread slice. There was no shrimp taste and was told it was a "thin" shrimp mousse spread covered by other ingredients. I would bet there is less than a teaspoon of mousse on 4 pieces of toast. I have several issues with tonight's dining experience. A waitress, Beste was MIA, left empty plates piled up with limited room at the bar, did not change out plates coated with kimchi sauce between services, and a short attitude when we asked about "where is the shrimp". I hope the restaurant can correct these issues or find help that truly cares. Hospitality means pay attention and "Anticipate" the patrons need prior to them realizing it. This also falls on management who needs to guide and set a culture that employees can emulate. SHOW THEM THE LIGHT!

The trout with a green curry sauce was good but again, ummmm.... Trout has a subtle flavor. Green curry coconut sauce, and stuffed with another type of Asian something something....might as just as well better to use a neutral tasting fish like a better quality tilapia imho. Let trout taste like trout. Use a different, neutral tasting fish for these kinds of sauces and fillings. Well at least it wasn't covered with a garnish of micro greens lol. Just a little cilantro heh heh heh. I mean don't get me wrong. Both entrees were okay. But a waste of quality fish when a less costly fish would have been fine what with all those other flavors. And the foam and powder embellishments on the steak were barely noticeable. The whole menu reads like a community college cooking school graduate little bit of this little bit of that. When I get home I'm going to have fun writing the different components of all the menu items on index cards, shuffle, and see what combinations come up each time. And I love the idea of a General Tso steak sauce and want to try creating one. And using a packet of Ramen seasoning instead of Cajun seasoning sounds like a fun thing to try. I just won't do it on a fifty dollar piece of meat. If you are counting calories you skip the gross doughnut hole dessert. Dense ball of dough. Gummy. Like they used a cake doughnut recipe instead of a yeast doughnut or beignet recipe. But if not counting calories , go for it. It's fun to try the sauces, even if not that great a doughnut. Great, festive, lively ambiance . Super friendly staff and service.

I was quite surprised that they had white Japanese sweet potatoes, they have the purple skin sweet potatoes, and plenty variety of savory potatoes too. The salad selection was vast as well too. I didn't expect to see vegan options such of tofu, tempeh, vegan cheeze, wonton wrappers, etc, but they had it all. One thing I wasn't expecting was there's NO plastic bags. Cardboard bags without handles are .20 cents/each and the reusable bags are $1.99/a piece. I just decided to get the reusable bags so I can use them again at Aldi's in the future. The reusable bags look small, but are very spacious without feeling heavy if you overload it. The handles are very sturdy too. I must mention the prices are fairly reasonable than Kroger's especially in the produce section. The crackers were pricey compared to Texas prices. I'm just glad the vegetables were cheaper. Clean store. Helpful staff. Plenty of parking.
