Kanak Express food truck, Sunday July 13th lunchtime at Green Acres Boise Been awhile since I had visited Kanak Attack, the food truck started up in 2009 and the business model now includes a mobile group that supports fire fighter activities, as well as a permanent catering division at Lake Harbor with a restaurant. As with any food truck, some of the hardest part of finding them is knowing where to look. I've had the best luck by following Kanak on Instagram, but you can also look up Green Acres by Shoreline Drive on Pioneer street (new location) to see the multiple trucks scheduled that week. Another source I use a lot is the Treasure Valley Food Truck Finder (formerly Boise Food Trucks) on Facebook. Like most food trucks that feature proteins, the prices have jumped up in the last two-three years. A salad with protein is the best bet for bargain hunters at $10, or the three tacos (see menu photo) but I have found that getting the twenty dollar "Two Entree Plate Lunch" works out pretty good as it's usually enough for one meal immediately and another reheated in the microwave (rice) and air fryer (meat). The plate lunch includes a) choose a rice, b) choose a salad and c) choose a protein. My favorites are the Kalua Pig, which is smoky, shredded pork that is juicy, not overly fatty, but maybe to salty for some. I saved most of this and made enchiladas the next day at home. Teriyaki chicken is the same price, add a $1 for the Katsu Chicken which was juicy and crispy with the breaded fried exterior and includes a dipping sauce that's a little sweet and addictive, it's so good. Used to plain macaroni salad? Hawaiian style is a little different, but delicious and is usually the first side I finish. If you are a first timer, don't be afraid to ask for help figuring out what to order, the crew usually takes the time to answer questions and guide you. This is a real good Food Truck. My wife and I had it today at the Green Acres Food Truck Park, in Boise. I got the tacos; one was Katsu Chicken, and it was to die for. I had two other tacos that were Brisket. Delicious, fresh, absolutely good. My wife had a bowl of chicken and slaw. That was so fresh and delicious as well. The staff is so nice. This was the first time that I've tried Kanak Attack in house. I've had their awesome catering before, but I had no idea that they had a storefront so close to my house. We needed a quick, but delicious lunch and trusty Yelp guided us here! This location is right next to their catering office. So you can try some delicious food and then hop next door to book them for your next party. The interior is very cute. Open and bright. There is plenty of space between tables and they are all table and chairs. The decorations are nice...obviously Hawaiian themed and they look pretty authentic (to my very untrained eye). Their menu has a decent amount of choices, but it's not overkill, so we easily made our decision. You order upfront and then they'll bring your food to your table. One thing that drove me crazy was the freshly lacquered tables. We kept sticking to them! Obviously that will correct itself soon, so no big deal. I only have one dish to go off of, because the hubs and I ordered the same thing. We both got the street tacos, trying out each of their meats. My favorite was the teriyaki chicken, my husband liked the pork the best. The brisket was good too, but a bit more plain than the other two. All the tacos are served on a corn tortilla and has a crunchy, sesame slaw on top. The teriyaki chicken was a bit spicy and the chicken thighs were so juicy and tender. Overall, the meats and the slaw are both pretty saucey so all of my tacos fell apart. My tortilla was pretty soggy so I had to just eat the meat and slaw with a fork. Not a huge deal, but sort of took away from the taco experience. Perhaps they could drain the meat a little more or double up on the tortilla. Overall, we were so stoked to try this place out and we can't wait to bring out of town family here! read more

Hey y'all! If you are in Meridian/ Boise area you MUST try this place. The food is delish! Some of the best brisket I've had in some time! The service is +1, the price point is way more than fair and the portions are generous. Yesterday I last minute ordered lunch for the clinic where I work (company paid ). I recommended Kanak Attack Katering/ Pineappleexpress. The guys were insistent they could make the larger order work! They were thankful for the business and we were so excited to purchase/ support local! One gal told me she could eat her weight in their brisket. Everyone loved the mac salad and the fried rice is my new fave! There is something for everyone. I heard they will even do plated style. Get the Ohana package. Best bang for your buck! The food was excellent. Admittedly, I don't know much about Hawaiin food. (See I don't even know how to properly spell Hawaiian the first time there?) The staff at the counter was so polite and knew their menu - I just glanced at the first 10 reviews here and when I visited, the staff actually identified EVERY issue mentioned and noted that I may or may not like something reviewers commented on. That's not the norm, at all ... that's a staff that listens and cares about customer experience. That alone is 5 stars. Tried some variety of chicken and some variety of steak. Both were 5 stars. Place was spotless. 12 of us ordering took ~15 minutes to reach our table so the manager brought us donuts while we waited. Nice gesture. OMG Freakin Amazing food!!!!! I was in Meridian for work and was told about this place by a co-worker. The staff are very friendly and took the time to explain to me the food. The different rices are excellent and have great flavor. The meats are to die for. My ultimate favorites have been the pineapple spam fried rice, the teriyaki chicken and the coconut encrusted salmon. Absolutely amazing!!!! Tried for the first time today. Got a manini plate. I had the park rice, which is delicious, and the mac salad, standard, as sides. I ordered the katsu chicken as my entree. I was told the katsu would need to be cooked in the back and it would be a few minutes. I was ok with this since that meant I would get nice, fresh food. Not so much. The katsu looked like it had been premade and just re-dipped into a fryer before being served. It was dry and severely over cooked. And the portion was tiny! 5-6 thin strips of chicken. If you have never eaten Hawaiian food before, then you are in for a treat. This business started as a food truck, but found an open spot in Meridian, and the rest, as they say, is history! The still have the food truck. They took it out this summer and fed the crews working on the firelines! But I digress...... The food is AWESOME!! They use all authentic Hawaiian foods, including seaweed wrapped spam, and they can even accommodate those of us with gluten-free challenges. The tacos were delicious, and quite surprisingly, filling. Sometimes food truck tacos aren't filled with much meat. I can honestly say, the tacos left me satisfied. We were in town for a soccer tournament and wanted to think outside the box in what to eat for both the players and parents. Claudine and her team were awesome in orchestrating the details and accommodating our request for a part of that size (100-125). The crew arrived 30 minutes early and were up and running in a matter of minutes. The average turnaround on orders was legitimately under a couple of minutes and the rice bowls were a hit. Was in town and was looking for something locally owned and we stumbled upon this place. Having lived with a couple Hawaiians I have been spoiled with amazing cooking from them and their families. I must say this place did not disappoint! Upon entering we were greeted and given a rundown of the menu. We ended up sharing the 3 meat plate and it was glorious. We had the loco moco(simple but amazing!), katsu chicken(a little different then I've had but was damn good with the sauce), and the Kalua pig(by far my favorite! Was super tender and fatty just how I like it). We had the Hawaiian Mac salad for the sides and had a spam musubi which is always great. I was a maid of honor for my best friends wedding. I was so excited to have the food she raved about. They were punctual which is critical in such occasion. The display was professional and easy to access for a party of over 100 people buffet style. I had to talk to the guy (I wish I remembered his name!) to discuss when he would be set. He was super friendly! He always ensured when a dish platter was done a new one was set. Honestly, not having to worry about the food was such a relief! We had a salad, 2 dressing choices, grilled veggies, fried rice, pulled pork and chicken teriaky. Each item was sooo tasty. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. I emailed the catering manager 3 days ago to explain how we felt about the service and still no reply. So' I'll post here: Claudine, Good morning. I wanted to reach out and tell you a little bit about our experience with the service we received Saturday. I'm not necessarily one to write reviews on social platforms because I understand the impact they can have on a business. With that being said, we were supposed to pick our large order up Saturday at 4:30 PM in order to make enough time to set up for our wedding reception. When we arrived exactly at 4:30, no one seemed prepared for our arrival. In fact, the staff seemed confused and gave no information as to what was going on. As we stood there waiting, everyone started running around in a mad dash (it seemed to actually get our order ready) and arguing with each other. Not one person said to us that our order wasn't ready or that there was a mix up. No one said anything to us. Not an apology, not an acknowledgment of fault. Just nothing. We gathered from the arguing and running around that our order wasn't ready. By the time we got everything loaded and back on the road, it was after 5PM. To me, being in a position of management for many years, this is completely unacceptable. I understand that things happen. I do. But the fact that no one told us anything about what was going on or communicated with us about the issue... that is just poor customer service. And not even one person apologized for the issue. Honestly, this was some of the worst service I've received in years. Please keep in mind when training your staff the true importance of business. The customer. When the customer pays $800+ dollars for a service, they expect the product and a friendly smile. Not "take your food and leave" which is ultimately how we left feeling. These guys catered our lunch on Saturday for an all day seminar. Great stuff. I wish I had a chance to talk food with the chef; I was too busy stuffing my mouth with all the steak and chicken. If you were around a few years ago when there was a Kanack Attack in that strip mall off Broadway, this is the same owner. They still have their coconut rice. I HAD to try them out as I do love my hawaiian food! I ordered the korean chicken and decided on the pineapple and spam fried rice. When my food came out, I was so excited. The rice was dry and flavorless, the macaroni salad was missing oomph and the korean chicken's sauce tasted burnt. I was sadly disappointed. In all fairness, the chicken itself was nice and juicy. After trying them out again recently twice at an event and food truck rally... I can officially say the coconut rice is bland, the mac salad is nothing like it use to be and tasteless, and the chicken was super dried out. This Yelp location isn't correct- I went to the new store front 499 S Main St Meridian. I've been waiting for Kanak to open its store front for months and I finally got a chance to stop in after work today. I ordered a bit of everything I wanted to try and there were some ups and downs. The two different rices were really good- the coconut rice and the spam/pineapple rice (my new favorite) and I got the kalbi short ribs (great flavor, not a fan of the cut) the shredded sweet pork (really good) and my go to- pork adobo. I was raised on adobo and I've eaten it around the country but this pork adobo was too salty, very tender but overly salted. I also got the mac salad (yum) and tried the corn salad (surprisingly good with a touch of heat). I was hoping for lumpia, which they had but only banana. They are newly opened but not a new company in this area... I'll be back to try them again but I'm not in a rush. read more

They catered our event with the food truck. If I could rate the food by itself I would give it a 4 (the rice was very hard). However, everything else was terrible. It took 90 minutes for our group to get their food, only one person was cooking, the order process was extremely confusing and it needed to be simplified. The person who was there to help with the ordering was obviously new and not familiar with the process. I would recommend eating at the restaurant and bypass the food truck. I wrote the restaurant an email with my concerns directly and never received a response or apology. read more

Love this place! Kahlua pig is sooo delicious and I also recommend the spam and pineapple rice, spicy Asian slaw and Mac salad. Don't forget the Hawaiian Sun in lilikoi passion flavor. Yummm this food is so good! I lived in Hawaii for several years and I'm so happy this restaurant exists in meridian! Disclaimer: You're getting this review from the Father of the Bride. Also of note I had ZERO contact with Kanak Attack prior to the wedding night - this was all handled by my wife, my daughter (bride) and her fiance (groom). We had a 5:30 wedding and KA Katering truck was supposed to be on site before that time so they could be prepped and start taking individuals orders by 6:00, 6:30 PM at the latest (nothing wrong with a cocktail or two while waiting on food to be ready!). When wedding started, no KA on site, when wedding over, no KA on site, when family photos after wedding completed, no KA on site. The things I had to endure my (only) daughter saying about her wedding guests that now SHOULD be eating cannot be repeated. It was so painful to be out on a beach at a park in Emmett Idaho and hungry guests for my daughter's wedding and no food in sight. Long story shorter, I ended up googling 'pizza in Emmett Idaho' and had to place a $250 order for 14 or so pizzas to feed our 60+ guests. Idaho Pizza Company had the pizzas ready for pickup in 25 minutes, so hats off to them! About an hour later, maybe more, KA truck finally showed up. I never got an answer on where they were, what went wrong, but heard lots of 'too many pokers in the fire' for excuses. Not sure what that means. I should add that, once they showed up, MANY of our wedding guests were excited as they already knew how good KA food was and I'll agree - the food I had (brisket and edamame noodles) was great. A little later I got a call from Travis of KA who was very apologetic and I TOTALLY appreciate the phone call but, the fact is, my daughter's wedding reception agenda got totally messed up due to the change that KA Katering forced us to make. I didn't even get to give my Father of the Bride toast at the reception, which is selfish to say but true. We didn't get to give any toasts, for that matter because our schedule got so messed up starting with dinner delayed a solid 60 minutes. Travis, who called me, then showed up on site (an hour, plus, drive from Boise) and did a huge job with my wife and with me trying to recover. There was a fair amount of money returned in cash to my wife which covered about 70% of our total outlay between KA Katering and Idaho Pizza Company. This is appreciated and helped, in no uncertain terms, but cannot remove the stress and anxiety the bride went through mere minutes after getting married. Would I ever hire KA to Kater another wedding, or any event, of mine? Not on your life, unless I knew I had 65 steaks, baked taters, and sides on standby in the case of another no-show. On that note alone I'd give a zero star rating - I cannot unfeel the pain that my daughter and I were going through in looking at all of our wedding guests that SHOULD be eating and no KA truck on site. Based on the GREAT food, however, and the awesome service of those working the truck that night, and Travis's huge efforts, I'll give 3 stars. read more

I have been at SEVERAL events where they have catered. Each time they were late, extremely unorganized and didn't have great service. They forgot things on the day of the event and had to leave to get them. Completely unacceptable. I would recommend using a different caterer if you want a stress-free event. read more
