Alright. here we go with this review.Kandela has a great vibe right off the bat, really nice decor, well maintained, and clearly set up more as a night hotspot. We came around 3:30 PM and it was surprisingly empty, but that wasn't a bad thing. Service was prompt and cheerful. When it comes to the menu, it leans Mexican with a lot of fusion going on, which was a little confusing (tacos next to bandeja paisa), but the food delivered. The chips and the salsa were on point! For entrees, I had some tacos de chicharron, my mother-in-law had tacos de chorizo, plus some street corn and sopa de tortilla. Portions are huge!!! No one's leaving hungry. One taco alone nearly took me out. Pickled onions and sides of rice and black beans (Black beans??? Another confusing aspect) were on point, presentation was solid, and everything tasted good. The sopa de tortilla was hearty. Maybe almost too hearty. They loaded it with rice and potatoes, but still well made. Overall: food was good, strong portions, friendly service, and a cool atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing. This is going be my new go to place for Mexican. I had a chicken quesadilla with onions and it doesn't sound like much but it was amazing. Great flavor. I was surprised when I walked in here and it was totally empty at noon. I was the only one in here for a bit. The food was yummy but I also rate mostly based on the service. It was confusing how since I was the only one in here that I never got anyone come to serve as I was seated. My order was delivered but then never had any service until I asked for my check and a refill of water. Nothing was horrible here but I kinda have a thought why it is empty at lunchtime. Place is real nice and clean but menus were very dirty. Ordered food and was surprise by some of the food portions. Burritos are as they say grande or just crazy big. Ordered an appetizer of Texas dip but had to ask it is steak chicken and shrimp cutup and place in white cheese with tortillas really good. Place had some nice margaritas. Food Stopped here for a quick dinner. Had chips & salsa to start and then got a small queso. We were incredibly impressed by the food at La Santa. The steak tacos were delish & the beans were incredible! The sauce on the side was also very tasty, a bit spicy, but I loved it! The burrito was very large & filling and we would definitely order it again. Service The service was very slow. Our waitress never came back after our food was delivered and we were out of water for quite some time. She also was not sure about the Happy Hour taco deal and what was on the tacos. Ambiance We went on a Tuesday around 6pm and the place was pretty busy. We got seated right away in a booth & it wasn't too noisy for the amount of people there. Atmosphere - Great! Located in a shopping center, the restaurant has a very nice, modern style. The place is bright and colorful. There is a large bar with lots of seating. There main dining area has a combination of booths and tables. There also is an outdoor patio that is screened in. Service - Excellent! Our server was very pleasant and attentive. Food - Excellent! My apologies. I don't know what happened to the picture that I took of my entree. I had the combo fajitas (shrimp, chicken and beef). The proteins were very tender and the veggies fresh and cooked perfectly. The flavor was great. The portion size was perfect for the 3 flour tortillas. The salsa and chips and house margaritas were very good as well. Overall Value - Excellent. I loved the atmosphere the minute we walked in the door and I saw the decor. The bar is beautiful and inviting. The variety of skulls and wall decorations just made the place so inviting. There was no way I was eating outside when I could enjoy the interior. Our server was quick to bring menus and take our drink order. I must have a margarita when I eat Mexican and this one was served so pretty and tasted great. They also brought us a small bowl of chips and sauce which were good. The menu is extensive, so there is something for everyone. I am an enchilada person, and can never choose which one I like the most, so luckily they had an Enchilada Supreme which was 4 different kinds. La Santa could easily be a 4-star review. The food is great, the outdoor patio is very nice, drinks and presentation are fun. However the service was lacking, staff not very friendly, menus need to be cleaned (were sticky) and other small things that management needs to fix. Great Mexican food and just what we were looking for. Some Mexican restaurants in SWFL don't have the taste and style that you get used to when coming from other states. La Santa was a good choice for lunch. First of all, the restaurant is clean and has good service. Their table salsa is delicious. I tried the Pollo La Santa, which is a slice of chicken topped with flavorful veggies and cheese sauce. Alan ordered his all time favorite, the Mexican street tacos. He was so pleased, they were what he had been looking for and were served to his liking. Lunch was a bit pricy, but so worth it to find a Mexican restaurant that serves delicious and authentic Mexican food. This would be a fun place to drink margaritas in the evening. read more

I was visiting my parents and we were craving Mexican food, I found this place on yelp and needed to go! The skull decor is fire! Super instagram worthy! Fun spin on traditional Mexican style. Service was great! Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Food was aaammmmaaaazing! Full of incredible flavor. I ordered the fajitas trio, which included steak, chicken, shrimp with rice, refried beans, lettuce, sour cream and grated cheese. I chose flour tortillas to accompany my feast. Outstanding Mexican food; some of the best I've ever had and I've been to Mexico more than a dozen times. I had the Camarones Cancun. The shrimp were extremely fresh and perfectly cooked. The sauce mixed well with the white rice side. The male server was attentive and knew the menu well. There is a discount for paying in cash posted on the receipt. While it's tailored to more American cuisine, there are some authentic options with a safe flare. The servers are nice and friendly. I ordered some food to-go online on Friday. Their prices are a bit high but thought I'd give it a shot and see if it was worth it. It wasn't. I ordered Chicken fajitas and bacon wrapped jalapeños. I paid the $2 extra dollars to add cheese to the fajitas and when I got home and took the food out of the bag, there was no cheese added. Also very disappointed that there were no tortillas for the chicken fajitas. I'm not sure how fajitas don't come with tortillas?! My wife and I used to order from this place all the time, but after several instances of horrible, rude customer service, we stopped dealing with them and went elsewhere. Fast-forward about a year, we figured we would give it another shot. I went online today to place an order, which went through successfully. About five minutes later, I received an email stating that my order was canceled and that they would refund our money. So, I called the restaurant to place my order over the phone. I specified that I wanted ground beef in my cantina bowl. My wife works across the street, so when she got off, she went to pick up the order. When my wife got home, she unpacked our food, and of course, my order was wrong. Instead of ground beef, they put carnitas in my bowl, and I do not eat pork. I called the restaurant and asked for the manager. The manager refused to come to the phone to address our concerns and let the same girl who took my order the first time deal with it. They offered to remake my order, which meant we had to drive all the way back to the restaurant to pick it up. To no surprise, OUR ORDER WAS STILL WRONG and had to wait for them to fix it. I think it's safe to say that we will NEVER order from this place again. They can keep their mediocre food and horrible customer service. read more
