We popped into this small Filipino cafe for a cold treat. The breads and cakes looked too heavy at the moment so we ordered halo halo, the quintessential Filipino summer dessert. Their version came in a large (about Venti Sized) cup for $9. It was made very traditionally with a topping of ice cream, Frosted Flakes on a bed of vanilla shaved ice hiding an inlay of pandan, nato de coco jellies, red bean, and flan cubes. I couldn't really tell what flavor the shaved ice and ice cream were but it tasted similar to pandan. The coconut strips and ube swirl added to the refreshing experience of eating the milky shaved ice with the sweet mix ins. There were so many differnt textures and jellies that each bite remained exciting to the very last. Although I have enjoyed halo halo with ube ice cream, I think this version holds its own. These 5 stars go out to the incredibly nice staff, those Ube Ensaymada's and Ube PanDeSal's with Cheese! When you walk in, your senses do a little dance. It smells SO good in there! Ube Ensaymada: I love ensaymada, Kape't Torta's are divine. The Ube ones are just that much better, the cherry on top one may say. The cheese melting on top when you put it in the toaster oven, it's just beautiful! ($2.50) Ube Pandesal with Cheese Filling: this ones a mini treat! There's a LOT of cheese inside. I recommend a quick 20second microwave to melt the cheese and then toaster oven for crisp. ($1) Pork Asado Bun: Dare I say, this is the Filipino version of a Chinese Roast Pork Bun? Dang this was good. I should have ordered more. ($2.50) Ube Cake: Super fresh, The ube filling was yummy but that white whipped cream, YUMMO! I want a layer of that on top of the cake! I didn't know there was a custard option!!! Next time! The cake is dense, not typical fluffy asian style. This is where it differ's from what used to be Krystals. We still miss Krystal's but we're lucky we now have Kape't Torta. Avocado Shake: Not too sweet, which is probably a good thing, haha. ($4.50) Halo Halo: WINNER! ($6) Sapin Sapin: Little hard. Ok ($2.50) Sky Flakes Condensed Milk Flavor: This is a hard pass. We LOVE Skyflakes but the grainy sweet sugar based concoction between the crackers was not great. No Condensed Milk flavor. Only purchase regret. It's also $8 for 10 but probably imported so I get it. Just a tip, don't expect to grab and go. I preordered but waited about 10min to get my order put together (not counting the Avo shake and Halo Halo time). Regardless, totally excited we found Kape't Torta (which means Coffee and Torta, a cake delicacy in Cebu). My girlfriend was craving Filipino dessert, specifically ube cheese pandesal for months. She finally found it at Kape't Torta. We took a nice drive out to Queens and boy were we boy disappointed. It was warf, fresh n gooey! Even a couole days later, after beeing reheated, it was delish. Also got some pork adobo to try lut. It was my first adobo thatt she didn't cook. Thank you for being open during COVID-19. What a delight to find this place! I've been wanting to try some ube cheese pandesal and was able to stumble upon this place by Google search. Thank goodness my better half drives because I don't think I would want to commute to Queens from Brooklyn. I ordered in advance by phone and I ordered 10 pieces. Only two people ate that in a span of two days, haha. It was even good the next day. Just pop it in the microwave. I think that it could use more ube filling but I will not complain! The cheese and ube inside is so good and I recommend eating it warm so the filling inside is more melted and gooey. I also got a mango shake and it was so good. I've been here 4 days in a row and might make a weekly trip a habit. I'm addicted to the pork asado buns and ordered a couple extra to last me throughout my day. The coffee is SKRRRONNG and delicious (I like my coffee black so this says a lot about their coffee standing the is this strong enough test?). Design: quaint and modern. I'm into the wooden tables and chairs which gives it a contemporary vibe and especially the hanging light fixture. I haven't come across a Filipino cafe that's contemporary or has modern vibes in NYC, usually they feel home-y or lack aesthetics so this is a first. It's definitely a place you can go to for studying, they have WiFi and it's clean. Baked good: they have an array of cheesy and plain ensaymadas, reminiscent of my childhood and tortas and hey, they're made in house. I had the pandesal which was good but a little on the rubbery side? I would prefer it to be more fluffy and light. They also have spanish bread, Yemq cake, upside down pineapple cake and cupcakes. All in all, I would 100 come back and I love supporting local Queens businesses, especially when they're Filipino. read more

3.5 stars Limited selection. There's really not much to choose from honestly. I tried 2 pastries. They had some cupcakes and a few other desserts and some snacks on the side... One was a small bread and it had a ton of cheese in it. I'm not a fan of eating cheddar cheese unless it's a grilled cheese sandwich or on a burger, which this was not. I guess if you really like a lot cheese, you'll enjoy it but I did not care to eat more than a bite. Another pastry I tried turned out to be a corn muffin perhaps? Ube pandesal does have that authentic ube flavor & aroma. Good taste and affordable price. Regular pandesal is the same, although compared to other Filipino bakeries around NY, they have a VERY dense bread. Personal preference is a soft pandesal. Ube Cheese Pandesal does have a chunk of cheese, but it is hard and somehow not fully incorporated into the bread. Works well when you zap it in the microwave, then toast. read more

I love almost all in their menus even their daily specials. However, my family loves Kape't Torta's cheesee ube pandesal and spanish bread the most. Their food are always fresh and all are cooked/baked in the store's kitchen. We drive from NJ to Queens just to get our favorites. The ambiance of the place is great too. The lighting, furnitures and decor are well thought of. It is very clean and the servers are very polite and always wear their most beautiful smiles to greet you. this is a relatively new cafe at Grand Avenue and I just randomly walk in because I need a place to study. glad I did! it turned out to be a Filipino bakery and most of the stuffs they sell are new to me. but most importantly the place is clean, comfortable, not noisy, have plugs, wifi, basically the place is perfect for me to study that day. I lost track of time and before I know it I've sat there for 5 hours, ordered 2 drinks and 2 food throughout. thank you so much for the staffs who were so nice, didn't kick me out, and didn't even seemed annoyed but instead were incredibly nice. the ladies were very lovely. i literally sat there from the cafe was quiet until it was really packed, until it was quiet again. - anyway I tried the Suman, which is a sticky rice cake cooked in coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaf. it was sweet, chewy, warm, has a particular pleasant texture, and very fragrant - the green tea taste different from what I expected but it was good - ice coffee was good and it was pretty big. not too strong, which was good so I don't hve to deal with palpitations - halo halo - it was pretty big and it was really good! especially the custard cake and ube ice cream on top. it looks pretty but more importantly it wasn't too sweet so I can finish it with ease i forgot my adapter plug and when I came back the next day they kept it for me. thankyou again! plus the price is very cheap! most of the stuffs are under $3 read more

First time I went I tried Spanish bread, ube torta, and some other ones I don't remember. The only one I took note of was the ube torta. First bite I actually didn't care much for it. Wasnt anything special. Froze it and then took out of freezer for lunch next day. I thought it tasted really good that day and I kept thinking about it. Went back a couple months later and bought 2. First one again I didn't think much of it. I froze the second one and in couple days I take of freezer and took few bites of it. I noticed some weird white ish patches on the bottom after I took a few bites. Thinking it might be mold, I sniffed and it stank really badly... I felt so grossed out I spat out whatever was in my mouth and threw away the rest.. made me not want to go back anymore.. read more

My cousin went here early in April to buy some pandesals (bread) and the staff asked her if she wanted a paper bag and she said yes not knowing that they were gonna charge her $0.25 a bag. I know it was only less than a dollar and is not a big amount for most people but I find it shameful for a business to charge x5 for a paper bag when NYS law is only requiring businesses to collect a 5cent fee for a bag. I know times are tough these past months and everyone is just trying to survive and make a living and my cousin also wanted to support local and small businesses. But businesses should also follow the law and not overcharge for a paper bag. If they wanted a tip, that would have been fine and my cousin would happily oblige. But to demand on collecting 25cents for a bag was so unnecessary and rude. read more

I really try not to leave bad reviews, as i understand how difficult it is to run a small business, but I'm hard pressed to give a higher rating. I sincerely hope they can get better with time. Maybe we just came in an off day. Service, while friendly, was too slow. We had to wait ten minutes to place an order, with only one party in from of us in line. Then we had to wait another 15 minutes as all our drink orders very slowly came out one at a time. Oddly enough, the Halo halo came first, then it was five minutes to get there regular coffee. Then it must have been another ten minutes to get the avocado shake. I worry what it would be like if they were actually busy. The avocado shake came out in a grey color (see photo) and hardly tasted like avocado. Just some unidentified milk shake flavor. The suman tasted heavily of ginger, and the yema cake was pretty dry. Can I just say that this will be a must visit every time I'm in Elmhurst? Ordered a dozen of the ube cheese pandesal and triple cheese pandesal and they were everything I envisioned it to be. The dough was soft and had a mochi consistency while the cheese was nice and oozey since it was fresh. Perfect with a cup of coffee. Also, these were bigger than expected so that was a plus. If you want them nice and hot, just throw em in the microwave for 30 secs and it'll be just as amazing. read more
