    Beef Bulalo

Dined here on Saturday shortly after opening. This was my first time trying Kusina, having already been to the other neighboring restaurants in the area. We ordered the Bulalo, which was a generous size and tasted pretty decent. Service was lacking, which unfortunately isn't the strong suit for many Filipino restaurants. Overall, I'd love to come back for dinner and try their Calamares Gigante!

Walked in to singing along with a guitarist accompanist. The music selection was good however the volume was a bit too loud even for people who like loud music. Could hardly have a conversation or communicate with the wait staff without using hand gestures. The place is a nice size and a bit deceiving from the outside. We had the Kamayan Special which was a first for all of us. They lay everything out on a tray lined with banana leaves. You are given gloves to eat with. No utensils (but they did have forks and spoons with their napkins if you so wish). There were two vegetables in clay pots. There were squid on a stick, 13 additional items: shrimp, mussels, chicken, pig, pork, lumpia (egg rolls), fish & rice. They offer soda, water as part of the package. The special is $275 for 6-8 people. However after the three different kind of fees, and tax and tip the bill was way over $500. The surprise were the fees that were not mentioned beforehand. We did order 2 drinks and a dessert. Figure about $60 per person. Aside from the sticker shock, the entire experience was tasty and fun.

Very fun place for hanging out with good friends for drinks and treats. I enjoyed the karaoke, very competitive and talented guests.

My first Filipino restaurant experience was about 8 years ago at Jeepney, a popular Kamayan restaurant once located in the East Village. Since Jeepney closed in 2020 I've been looking to relive the same app, entree and dessert flavors offered back then. Fast forward to Fall 2024 with an invite to visit Kusina Pinoy Bistro located in Woodside. I quickly learned from this experience that there's an authentic version versus a more modernized version of Filipino cuisine. My inexperienced palate preferred the latter. Kusina Pinoy popular with the locals, is a brightly lit, colorful, unpretentious restaurant. Kusina's service was efficient and friendly thanks to the service we received from Lisa D., who by the way took our orders by memory and wrote nothing down. She had all food staples committed to memory. Pretty impressive. While navigating our meals that came out very quickly, I was informed by my Yelp friends that the Filipino flavors here are more authentic than my Jeepney experience. Of all of our dishes, only one fared well with me, the Milk Fish which was filleted, seasoned and prepared perfectly. I cannot say the same for the other dishes such as the Lumpia, they were a tad over fried and cut in halves. The Kare Kare Oxtail, some parts of the oxtail were tender and some were tough, the sauce was tasty though. Pork Sisig with egg, the raw egg white made the dish unenjoyable. And then the garlic rice and plain rice were both mushy. Not a fan of overcooked rice. The hit with everyone was the gigantic calamari. Great presentation and tasty. Yet its giganticness was overwhelming to me and for this I won't be having calamari for a while. I'm sad to say that the majority of our orders were either over or under cooked or under seasoned. Unfortunate. Though not the food experience I was expecting, I appreciated the opportunity. It was nice sharing time together and enjoying great conversations with my Yelp peeps, while also listening to karaoke tunes being sung by one of the neighborhood locals. For those curious, by all means check Kusina out, your food experience may fare better than mine. 2.5 / Nov 2024 TIP: Parking is quite difficult in the Woodside area but attainable with some patience.

The kindest staff and very filling food. There's karaoke and music in the background and it feels very homey. Get the halo halo to share because it's huge!

Re: Likely Cause of Food Poisoning I'm disappointed to write this because I enjoyed celebrating my birthday here. Unfortunately, my experience at Kusina Pinoy Bistro was something I wouldn't wish on anyone, and I am sad with their overall response. On Saturday, 3/14/2026, I came in with a group of 12 people to celebrate a joint birthday with a previously scheduled reservation. We ordered two Kamayan Sa Bilao platters, which included mixed meat and seafood. The atmosphere was great, and everything seemed fine while we were there, except for the busy staff; if you want something, you have to really get their attention or go up to them. Unfortunately, after I got home that night, I became extremely sick. I vomited for hours and had diarrhea that night up until 3AM. The next day the symptoms continued diarrhea, nausea, chills, and body ache. I went to urgent care, where they said it was likely food poisoning. I had to miss school that Monday and spent the rest of the week with no appetite and feeling uneasy about food. What's more concerning is that I wasn't the only one. Another friend who ate from the other platter we ordered also got sick with similar symptoms and had to miss work that Monday. The fact that we ate from separate platters makes this even more troubling. When we called the restaurant to explain what happened and ask about a refund, the response was disappointing. I understand the hesitation, but it felt like our concerns weren't taken seriously; it felt like they thought we were trying to scam their restaurant. The owner we spoke with, Dennis, was defensive and suggested other possible causes of the food poisoning, such as whether we had eaten something else or even the birthday cake my friend had made for us, rather than considering that the food might have been the issue. That conversation made us feel really disrespected and gaslighted. We understand that running a business is hard (he tried to argue that the business was struggling which felt like a guilt-trip but this is what running a business entails) , but he was unwilling to acknowledge that his restaurant had 58 health inspection violations in November of 2025, and it has a poor track record on the NYC Department of Health website. In hindsight, this is something we should have checked, and I hope people don't make the same mistake as we did for any restaurant. He also tried to use his job as a nurse to evade accountability and cast doubt on whether it was their food that got us sick. They eventually comped one of the platters, which we appreciated; still, it felt unfair to pay for food that likely made us sick, since my friend who ate off the other platter was also sick. We spent $550 on two platters and were reimbursed $275 for one, and they made us come pick up a check in person even though we paid through card and surely their system allows for them to refund us electronically. I strongly encourage anyone considering dining here to review their recent health inspection history and make an informed decision. It's a shame because the ambiance is nice, but based on my experience, I can't recommend eating here.

(Ratings based solely on the desserts). I loooove sweets, I loooove dessert, and I LOOOOOVE halo halo. One of the better halo halos I've had because I really liked the proportions as well as the way they assembled everything. The only thing I'd note is that I wish the ice was more finely shaved, but other than that it was perfect. I also got to finally try taho for the first time and it tastes just like the sweet Chinese tofu pudding (douhua). I might actually prefer taho just due to how much more syrup you get, which I find myself never having enough of when eating douhua. So light and refreshing and would've been great on a hot day.

Very good Filipino restaurant in Queens! Come here if you are craving authentic Filipino food. Location: It is located along Roosevelt avenue. The interior is typical Filipino restaurant, lot of seating but might get hectic maybe during dinner. Street parking available. Service: the staff and owner were nice, they are very attentive and give us recommendations. Food: The food was good! Very authentic Filipino food, feels like home. CALAMARES GIGANTES: a must! The calamares is big and the presentation was spot on! The outer layer was crispy and the calamares were soft and not rubbery. PORK SISIG: very crispy and cooked well! Wish there was raw egg tho but still good. INIHAW NA LIEMPO: so tender and marinated well. Dip that pork on the sauce and it tastes so good! BEEF BULALO: this is a must! The beef is tender and the soup is soo good!!! Omg huge serving too!! Best soup ever!! UBE SHAKE: get this!! Omg soo good! If you love ube you got to try this! So creamy! Price rating: 7/10. To be honest the price is not bad for the good food. I will definitely come back here and try their other food. Get the beef bulalo and ube shake!

didnt expect to order so many things here but everything was so good we kept getting more. started with the chicken sisig, kare kare oxtail, and tagalog beef steak which paired amazingly with the complimentary rice. first time having kare kare and oxtail that i actually liked. we ended up getting the calamares gigantes after seeing it at other tables and it was fried so well for how big the squid is - not too chewy. the wait staff were super friendly and even turned the karaoke music down without us prompting when we said it was a bit loud. we ended with the halo halo for dessert which wasn't too sweet and my favorite part was the ube halaya. lots of families here and vibes are festive even for a weekday evening.

Think they cut corners and ripped me off on this one lol $13 lumpia. Not worth the visit
    Christine Y.

In general the atmosphere is lively and the food is tasty. However, I'm a bit peeved about the appetizer we received. We ordered lumpia shanghai (the app), fish, and the grilled chicken and garlic rice. The rolls that came looked different from the ones I've seen in pics and compared to the table next to us. The table next to us had whole rolls like the pic I compared it with but we got 6 rolls cut in half. The menu states its 12 spring rolls ($13). Either they were pressed for time and cut corners on our dish or they suddenly changed the presentation after the table next to us got lumpia. I don't know what happened but I don't think this was fair. We did not mind waiting if that is what was needed for us to get FULL ROLLS because we had to wait a bit for our chicken dish to come anyways. The chicken didn't come with garlic rice either. We didn't ask to change that bc we had gotten a large garlic rice to share anyways. I will say however, the white rice was cold and dry. The large rice portion is really for 2-3 ppl not 3-4 as listed. The atmosphere is lovely as they were doing karoke and practically everyone was singing. That was a fun sight. Besides the appetizer thing, meal was good. I don't think I would come again though. I wouldn't frequent a place that serves inconsistent food qualities.

Came here for dinner sunday night. The place was not busy. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Food came out fast. The fried squid was good and the crispy skin was nicely seasoned but it was kind of hard to eat. The skin kept falling off. The oxtail kare kare was okay. Not the best I have ever had. The oxtail was tender but the peanut flavor wasnt as strong. The other dish with coconut milk and veggies was definitely much better. Nice deep coconut flavor. And the squash was really good. The pancit was good. Nice flavoring. Overall we have a great time and enjoyed ourselves. Would visit again if we were in the neighborhood

My friend and I needed a sweet treat after dinner and we were looking for halo-halo places in the area. We stumbled upon Kusina because our original choice was closed for the night. Surprisingly they also had another item, Taho, which my friend had been waiting to try for the longest time! The halo-halo was sweet and creamy, reminding me of how my family would make it back home! Pro-tip: really get in there when you mix up the dessert, because there are extra jellies, red beans, and coconut strands buried at the bottom! Overall we loved it, and the only thing we would change is using finer ice, though we know that's a personal preference! As simple as it is, taho is really dear to my heart and reminds me of childhood summers in the Philippines. There's something about the warm, silken tofu, sago, and caramelized syrup that satisfies your sweet tooth and makes you feel all cozy. My friend really enjoyed trying it for the first time! I definitely want to come back and see how their Filipino food stacks up. I noticed a party next to us had ordered the traditional boodle fight style meal which you don't see much back in Texas! You need to reserve those in advance but the food looked amazing!

A family favorite joint in Queens. Every time we go, it doesn't disappoint. From the last time we went, they added more decor so the restaurant feels like a party! Liza was our server on the day we went and she was very helpful in helping my mother choose a meal for the table. We knew before coming in that we didn't want to order separate entrees and was looking for more of a kamayan style feast. Luckily, Kusina has those kinds of options. We ended up choosing the meat & seafood platter. Because we don't eat pork (but my parents do), Liza made sure that the pork was separated from the platter and served on another plate. I appreciated that! The meat & seafood platter went above our expectations. The garlic fried rice was perfectly seasoned! The lechon manok had crispy skin and it was juicy inside. The sauce that they provided tasted really nice with it. The lechon kawali that my parents had was very good - my parents enjoyed it as well. It satisfied my mother's craving! The BBQ chicken skewers were a little over cooked but seasoning was spot on. The pancit has a lemony flavor and our daughter loved that! It paired really well with the garlic shrimp. Speaking of the garlic shrimp, it could have been cooked a little more but I still loved the flavors it had. I wish I could have that shrimp every day. Lol. Halo-halo is classically made! Just the way my family is used to. :) I'm definitely returning with my parents again because this has officially become our go-to spot whenever they visit NY.

Lumpiang Shanghai - 5 stars! Nice and crispy and not too hard.
