This is the only restaurant I know that charges $0.25 for every extra plate or container. We bought a 2 item combo and I asked or an extra plate since Wifey n I were sharing the meal. He never notified me ahead of time that the extra plate would cost an additional $0.25! And he did not give me a receipt for the transaction until I asked for one. And only then did I notice the extra charge for the extra plate! This Pinoy restaurant is something else. Did you know that they also do not price tag their grocery merchandise? This is the closet Filipino besides Jolly Bee and the Filipino point-point one inside 99 Ranch to my house. I'm just not a fan. Ladies first of all don't seem to be grateful for my business. Even if I say salamat and speak my tagalog-english. Nope..doesn't work to impress. They always seem to be grumpy, but then again I've only ever gone after work around 6pm or so. As for food wise, I always tell myself maybe it will be better. First of all, the prices are kind of expensive now around $10 or so a plate. I was coming from an appt in the Anaheim area and I knew this place was right off Euclid and the 5, so I said what the hell, let's hit "Good Neighbors" (English for Kapit Bahay). The entrance is actually on a side street off Euclid behind the Red Ribbon and Chow King which face Euclid. I ordered the 3 Item combo ($9.75) w/ pancit bihon (thin rice noodles w/ vegetables, chicken and shrimp), pinakbet na baboy at ipon (an Ilocano stew w/ pork, shrimp, bittermelon, okra, green beans and squash and lechon kawali - pork belly (lechon) fried in a wok or deep frying pan (kawali). The pancit was ho-hum. The noodles were good and the vegetables were crunchy. However, there was not much meat or shrimp. This dish should be treated as a side and be offered as a 1/2 and 1/2 w/ rice, vs being considered an entree: 3 Stars. My late father was Ilocano (from the country vs Manila peeps who generally only speak Tagalog, the National language). He used to make a mean pinakbet. BTW, the dish derives its name from the Ilocano word pinakebbet - "shrunk" or "shriveled", which is what happens to the veggies when cooking this stew. Kapit Bahay's version was very good in comparison to my father's. It was loaded w/ meat and shrimp and the vegetables were super fresh (especially the squash): 4 Stars. The lechon kawali was also very good. The meat was moist, the skin was super crunchy and it was a good sized portion: 4 Stars. This is a turo turo (point point) place where the food sits in warmers and you "point " at what you want. Pet peeve: Why don't these kind of places put labels on the glass so they can market to non-Filipinos? That has always bugged me. Consequently, there were only Flips on the Tue I came for lunch watching It's Showtime on TFC (variety show on the The Filipino Channel - lol). The server was polite and also gave me a small cup of broth from the sinigang (a sour and savory fish stew flavored w/ tamarind), which was pretty good: 3 Stars. Overall rating: 3.5 Stars rounded down to 3 Stars because of the type of place it is. The food at Kapit Bahay is better than the recently reviewed Fil-Am BBQ and Manila Bay, but not as good as most places in Cerritos. She's always very rude to me when I come in. To people who speak tagalog she's smiley and very nice but when I come in and smile and say hi she just says, "What do you want!" No smile just straight face and when I have questions she just answers rudely. When I check out she just hands the receipt and doesn't even look at me when i say thank you. I wasn't all that impressed with this spot. The person working the counter wasn't all that friendly. In fact, she wasn't real familiar with the ethnic names of the foods. She didn't know it's ingredients. She didn't really listen well when we were trying to order. In addition, we were charged a fee for using our debit card. When we asked why we were being charged a fee, she couldn't tell us. We'd exceeded a minimum spending of $10. That was real disappointing. I'd read that this was a "fun Filipino spot." I had the Kare Kare, Pinakbet, & pancit. Kare Kare is peanut butter based sauce usually cooked with ox tail or beef shank with tripe. Sadly... I didn't get enough beef pieces. Mostly tripe. And veggies. The flavor is good. And with a little bit of bagoong on the side which is a condiment that smells fishy and made out mini shrimp paste. They have the pink bagoong. I usually like the brown one that has been sautéed. But overall it satisfied my taste buds. Pinakbet is good. It had a lot of my favorite squash, kombocha. The pansit is just okay for me....pretty oily. And peppered up. I was kinda sad that my coconut water had sodium metabisulphite as a preservative. ;( it was more my fault for not reading the label... wish I just had water.... The dining area is not that cozy or comfortable. I'm feel I'm the middle of a market. They have a lot of Filipino Snacks for sale.. from crackers, chips, to cookies, other things. My standards are not very high when it comes to Filipino food, but I feel like I have some favorites which should be pretty hard to mess up. This restaurant has a lot of food options to choose from and I haven't tried them all (though I will probably would not be willing to). I came here on a few different occasions to eat some 'authentic' Filipino food. My favorite dish is Kare-Kare (Beef stew thickened with peanut butter), which they have. I've gotten that alongside some other options. Most recently I've paired it with Bistek (Beef Steak) and of course, rice. From the first experience, I knew right away that is just didn't taste that good. Honestly I had this place written as a draft with 2 stars... But after coming here again (I came here with my mom because she wanted to eat out and they were pretty close by) and recently getting it. Let's just say my stomach wasn't happy later on in the day. They have a lot of chips, crackers, and snacks that are native to the Philippines but honestly all of that stuff can also be found at 99 Ranch Market... which is next door. Filipino food is popping up everywhere here in California so there are many places to choose from. Some are really authentic, and others have some sort of fusion twist to it. My advice would be to go to any one of those restaurants because up to the date of this review, I haven't found a worse Filipino Restaurant. read more

Even in the pancit, they're just using old chicken meat they couldn't sell from yesterday and they mix it into the pancit. That's why all the chicken is hard and old. And their garlic rice is old and expired. The beef caldereta tastes sour. Don't even try to go to this place, all they serve is leftovers from the day before. I showed it to the lady named Lisa, and she kept saying sorry and apologizing to me, she knew the food was old. And when I was looking for the owner, she said the owner was still sleeping. And that was around 1:20 PM. These people are full of lies. I knew she was the owner. And I told them that they shouldn't do that to the customers, your customers know what is fresh food and what isn't. They don't even deserve 1 star, they don't deserve any stars. Come and give it a try and you will be pleased!! They have good empanadas and fried pork too!! I loved the jackfruit entree and pumpkin dish and stewed ham hocks too!!! Everything here is soooooo good!!! It is located on Euclid and Cresent right by the 5 freeway and next to 99 Ranch Supermarket and Anaheim Chiropractic office too. So it isn't the greatest Filipino food restaurant in Orange County, I mean I'd rather go to Manilla Grille in Buena Park (but they tend to run out of food early) or to Kainan Sa Kanto in Stanton (even though it's super small inside). This is the closest Filipino food to the crib since they closed Pinoy Fiesta (Lincoln & Anaheim Blvd.). I ordered a 2 item combo, chicken adobo (which was actually boneless and had a shred like texture), bistek (beef steak) w/onions and did half steamed rice & half pancit. The husband had a 2 item combo, pork adobo & lechon kawali (crisp-tasty pork) w/rice. $6.95 for a 2 item combo. Seems about average for Filipino food spots. Portion wise, my husband gives it a thumbs down (keep in mind though, he's Samoan and prefers gargantuan amounts of food), me on the other hand their portions work for me. The adobo's here are fantastic! Such a joy I wished I had ordered extra. Lechon is good, pancit is good, and I gave hubby my bistek because dude, they just didn't cut it--literally! It was like an actual 8 or 9 oz piece of steak meat that they didn't chop into pieces like I am used to. I didn't want to eat it like a savage so I gave it to the hubby and he dug it! I seal this with a 3 because the food gatherer/cashier guy Levi(?) needs to step up his customer service game. He was too emotionless and unresponsive. I would like to say "as good as my mom makes it," but my mom cooked mostly other cultures food. I like this place. It's like all Filipino restaurants, but this one is slightly better than most. If you have a hankering for some greasy Filipino food, go here. Personally, this place is too far to warrant driving out from Mission Viejo.
