I pulled up to order some lumpia to-go for my work and to support the local community but ended up ordering more than expected because I was equally hungry and reminiscent of my childhood. It had a fairly simple set up of a few tables with the food warmed up and ready to be served at the front. You walk up to the counter and just let them know what you want cafeteria style. They don't really have a menu listing everything they serve, nor did they have labels on the glass so you know what to ask for. You just point and they put it in a container. You also seat yourself, but there were only a couple people there aside from me so there was no issue finding a seat. Their water can be found sitting in the front that you serve yourself through an open pot into a small cup. A little questionable as it's not covered or dispensed through a machine, it's just sitting there in an open area. But I'm still alive and healthy while writing this review so no issues there. After ordering the 40 lumpias to go, the lady at the front repeated it with wide-eyed emphasis and told me I'd have to wait. Of course I'd wait, lola! I'd wait all day for lumpia! This is also one of the reasons I ended up ordering for dine-in as well. In addition to the lumpia, I ordered pancit and what I believe to be ginataang baboy. Pancit consists of glass noodles with a mixture of veggies and chicken. It was a bit greasier than I expected, but tasted good. Ginataang baboy is pork stew that is cooked with coconut milk. The cream was rich and incredibly heavy, I would describe as one of the foods you can probably only have once in a while. They also served my dishes with a side of sinigang, and sinigang has always been good to me regardless of the restaurant. While it doesn't quite take the #1 spot on my list of Filipino restaurants, it's a place that I see myself coming back to consistently just to experience my childhood again through a bite, a munch, a slurp, or a sip. read more

On way to Disneyland and family was feeling like some pinoy food and this popped up. Located in a strip mall and had a good selection for combo plates. Went with the pork adobo, bistec, diniguan and pork bbq stick. Also had a side of chicken lumpia. The owner was very nice and helpful and place was filled with locals. All the food was good but I think I'd ask for pork lumpia next time if they have it. I didn't know I ordered chicken lumpia and I prefer the pork one much better. Would I come back? Yes I would. It's best to call ahead for catering at least two days in advance although they have a quick turn-around for last minute requests but be prepared to place your order over the phone with little wiggle room to change your mind and edit (reduce/swap) the order although they are more than happy to add to your order once made. The restaurant itself is clean but small with a handful of tables and is tucked in-between a plaza shared with ramen and Mediterranean choices with decent amount of parking. Lumpia Shanghai or small fried pork-stuffed egg rolls are always a hit at parties, and their pancit canton-bihon is packed with protein and veggies. There are no legitimate good Filipino restaurants in OC. Visited here months ago and it was gross where I had to mostly toss it away. The lady is nice but the food is the opposite. Lukewarm dishes; I'd suggest a better warming system or made to order type of restaurant. I ordered the longanisa sausage, beef stew and lumpias. The longanisa was a size of a baseball but not tasty at all. 2 bites and I gave up. Next the stew was mostly fat and hardly any meat. Lumpias were tiny as hell, 1 inch long. I had mine to go. Their AC was wonky or didn't exist. It was hot and I wanted to leave. Absolutely awful Filipino food. Once you taste it, you can tell there wasn't any passion. read more

Tender with a good flavor. * Savory and Sour Beef Stew (Sinigang?) 2/5 - Generous amount of beef and onions, but very sour. * Turon (Banana Lumpia) 4/5 - Banana and Jackfruit lumpia deep fried and covered in a layer of brown sugar. I'd like to recommend this place because the food is good and tastes like home-cooked meals--simple and filling. Not everything, but most of the dishes are great. I especially like their pork BBQ, liempo, sinigang, bistek, pancit, Pampanga-style caldereta, halo-halo, siomai, and lechon kawali. What I don't like, sometimes (not always), is when they make the pinakbet and the vegetables are sliced a little bigger than usual, like it was rushed. Also, the younger lady who serves can be inconsistent with prices or tends to upsell. If you find the grandma a little grumpy or rude, don't take it personally. It's not you--it's her. So on my second visit, I was actually excited to see they opened early at 10 AM -- the "Open" sign was lit and the "Welcome In" sign was up. But when I got there, the doors were locked. The food was good and definitely satisfied my curiosity, but if I'm being honest, it wasn't anything that stood out in a way I'd rave about. Maybe it's a regional thing? As a Fil-Am, "Pinoy Food for me is Layf," but I understand that each region in the Philippines puts its own twist on classic dishes. Take adobo, for example--what we think of as "just adobo" in the U.S. can vary greatly across provinces, even though the base ingredients are the same. So, I'm guessing Fil-Am BBQ Grill's offerings may be influenced by a neighboring province in Luzon. The staff were incredibly friendly and warm, which I really appreciated. In California, where great customer service can sometimes be hard to come by, it's always refreshing to find a place with such a welcoming team. The restaurant itself isn't very large, but it's clean and well-lit, which I always appreciate. I'm picky about the ambiance, and good lighting and cleanliness really set the tone for a positive experience. All in all, Fil-Am BBQ Grill is a solid spot. I'm not sure what happened. I got here at 10:30 a.m. and their sign says they are open. Online. Says they are open as well. But nobody is here. The door is locked. There is food waiting out in the buffet trays. But nobody comes to the door! How do businesses stay in business when they State they are open but the door is locked?! This is too bad! read more

Was fortunate enough to try Aling Lucing's Sisig version (supposedly the best) located in Pampanga, Philippines in 2022. I heard of Fil-Am located in Southern California serving Sisig tasting closest to Aling Lucing. Got there on a Saturday and found out better priced combo meals for Sisig was only served every Saturday. But I was on a mission. So I opted for the $25 larger positioning (good for potluck). Wow! It sure was very good and tasted like Aling Lucing's. Also tried their Pancit and Pork Sinigang. Both were cooked very well. I'll surely be back to get meals and potluck dishes here.
