Worth the splurge! You are required to pay in full for the reservation at booking just FYI.. Service and execution was well done! We enjoyed every course. Highlight for me was the potato foam and potato skin crumble on the boeuf bourguignon. The wagyu was also amazing! Crab chawanmushi (steamed custard eggs) was yummy too. I appreciate the explanation of every dish as they were served. They had hokkaido uni a la carte, I did opt for it, can't say no to uni. Drinks were ok, I'm not a sake person. Entrance is through the Proper Hotel entrance, to the right after you enter the hotel.

Kappo Kappo was such a special experience, left me speechless. The entire place has an incredible vibe: intimate, stylish, and perfect for celebrating something memorable. It is on the pricier end but it was worth it. From the moment we walked in, the chefs (who are twins!) were so warm and welcoming. They were incredibly sweet, courteous, and made the whole experience feel personal. What really stood out was how intentional every single dish was. They were all so beautifully decorated too. You can tell so much thought goes into the flavor combinations, each component complements and balances the other beautifully. Nothing felt random, every bite felt carefully crafted. The Japanese wagyu completely melted in my mouth. I actually loved that they paired it with American wagyu as well, which added a nice balance and contrast. And the seared fatty tuna was unforgettable: smoky, buttery, and incredibly flavorful. Definitely can't wait to come back! I initially wasn't sure if adding truffle would be worth the extra cost, but honestly it ended up being such a fun part of the experience. Watching them absolutely shower your plate with truffle was hilarious and indulgent--definitely a "make it rain" moment. Overall, such a thoughtful and memorable dining experience. Amazing food, amazing hospitality, and a perfect spot for a celebration.

I usually love a fine dining, omakase experience but over $700 for 2 people was just not worth it. Every dish, except the A5 waygu, was just OK. When paying this amount money I expect to be wowed with each bite. The brothers fun and exciting personalities made me want to love it but we just did not. There are plenty of other fine dining options in the city that are worth the splurge.

What an amazing French-inspired omekase dinner experience this was! We ended up splurging, and two of us got the wine pairing and another got the sake. I also tried the strawberry Sakura cocktail and it was outstanding. Very personal experience at the chefs table, with each of the head chefs as well as their team members coming to speak to us about each course and the sommelier shared her knowledge about the sake and wines. It would not have been the same experience if we had been sitting at regular tables vs chefs table, so I encourage you to go when that seating is available. We loved the upscale modern vibe that drew upon Japanese influences. Not for the budget conscious. All in all, dinner, wine pairing, and cocktail was over $400 for one, but worth it if you're in the mood for a special treat.

Kappo Kappo is the new it-spot in town for the fancy meal that may as well have the potential to change the way you see food. Kappo, meaning to cut / cook, is rightly named after the twins Haru & Gohei's philosophy to showcase the many ways food can be prepared. Whether it's a snack, an aperitif, sushi, braised, grilled, or whatever it may be, you are bound to get a journey of Japanese cuisine prepared in a very technically French way. These two Japanese chefs hail from France and spent a good 7 or so years in Japan with a love of both specialized and local ingredients executed in ways learned from both countries. Examples of the tasting menu include salmon mi cuit, a gougère with A5 wagyu and caviar, pecan-based yakimiso to pair with the most tender A5 wagyu, and a chawanmushi that beats the rest in Austin (even places with a higher price tag). Whatever you get out of the 11 or so courses are bound to be delicious and a perfect blend of French and Japanese roots. Cocktails run a little pricey, but they are made with a great balance. There is a sake or wine pairing with a very fair price to add onto. The surroundings look out of an Architectural Digest magazine with an appreciation for great serveware and lighting that could make me believe it's some type of Noguchi lamp. The service is impeccable while the two are warm, friendly, conversational, educational, and excited to share the menu with you. Expect to see this place on everyone's recommendations list soon!

While I would love to give them stars based purely on the taste of food and the brothers' personalities, coming to Kappo Kappo is an expensive endeavors that competes with so many other Omakase experiences in town, and at this very moment, it's not quite a 5-star experience to me (YET). To get to the point, the food is good, technique shines through, there's variety which I appreciate, and I was actually full afterward (which isn't always the case with Omakase). There's a good mix between lighter and heavier, of fish and meat, of savory and sweet. We got fresh fish, but we also got Wagyu, we got rice, and we even got soup. Oh, and there're vegetables! What else could you ask for in an Asian meal? The atmosphere and set up are where I hope they continue refining and addressing. Music was way too loud and gives of a hotel bar vibe. It's like the bar outside just continues into what's supposed to be an intimate space and experience. Synchrony with the flow needs work, they can't pause to tell everyone each course they're serving because it's just so damn loud. The space is also interesting. It's somewhere in the middle of intimate and not so intimate. There's the counter, but there're also tables in the back (similar to the set up of their sando pop up, just more glamorous). To bring food to those in the back requires the chefs/servers to go all the way around the bar, which cuts into efficiency and make things look chaotic in a relatively small space. Maybe that's the vibe they're wanting to achieve, but the space itself might be a smidge small for all the people moving about and all the noises. They're also very new and will need time to iron out all the kinks - hopefully we'll support them enough so that we'll get to a point that this is one of the top omakase experiences in Austin. I would definitely still recommend that you give Kappo Kappo a try and form your own opinions because the good (the food along with the brothers' experience and personalities) certainly outweigh the not-yet-good.

Kappo Kappo is one of the best dining experiences in Austin hands down. It was definitely a true blend of french and japanese and not just sushi- in fact, only a little sushi. The restaurant is beautiful inside. There is a large sushi bar which has a full view of the kitchen and prep areas. There are also tables. I highly recommend sitting at the bar to watch and interact with the chefs and preparers. Only downside was that it was a little hard to hear each server because they all presented each dish and spoke at the same exact time. The cost with tax and tip is roughly $250 pp not including drinks. Yes, that's very expensive- but also had lots of expensive fish and wagyu cuts and certainly had excellent preparations (for Austin). The least expensive 6oz sake pour was $24 which turned into $34 with tax tip and fees- they let you choose your glass as well.

Exquisite, very well executed, and clean omakase. This place deserves a Michelin star. You can feel the Japanese French fusion of each course. Each course was delicious. Loved the wagyu dishes and the torched otoro.

I genuinely think Kappo Kappo might be my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time, and my best friend who was visiting from NYC says it's her top 1. That's a pretty good summation sentence of our experience that we had here. We both love trying omakase and Michelin-star restaurants, so it's incredible that Austin has such a memorable and stunning restaurant because you'd think this was in NYC or another food capital of the world. Mark my words--they will get their star soon! I will say that in the beginning of our night, we were a bit annoyed because usually omakases start right on time and if not, then there is a waiting area for guests to sit, chat, and drink some wine. It felt weird to stand by the door for ~20 minutes as the previous seating was still finishing up their meal. If I could offer any suggestions to improve the dining experience, it would be to have a seating area or ensure that the seating times are spread out enough that the next seating time isn't waiting too long. Especially because our dinner was scheduled for 9:30PM and we hadn't eaten anything in preparation for the meal, we were more hangry than usual haha. Their menu is actually incredible, and my friend and I kept exclaiming how they couldn't miss after taking a bite of each course. The entire experience is designed really thoughtfully, and you can tell the brother-duo chefs (who happen to have spent a great deal of time in France) incorporated a lot of their professional background and working experience into the meal. Ingredients are guaranteed to be incredibly fresh and high quality, and despite us not eating much the entire day, this meal was VERY filling. I love that you can watch all of the sous chefs and head chefs present and prepare each of the courses, and they take the time to explain each course to you before serving. Timing of each course is also really great. They do have some tables available to dine at, but if the chef's counter is available, I HIGHLY recommend you book at the table. I can already tell the experience will be completely different if you are sitting at a table versus sitting at the chef's counter. My friend and I are already talking about the next time we are able to visit because the meal was really that incredible. Words cannot do Kappo Kappo justice, and I'm ecstatic that Austin has such a gem right in the heart of its downtown.

Best experience with a meal ever had. Everything was coursed to perfection. So fun to watch the meticulously prepare every little piece.

What a treat to try Kappo Kappo on the early days! Unfortunately we came when they were down some cooks so it did feel like the chefs were frantically serving. It felt less like an omakase experience and more like a fast service to get all of the items out. The music was also extremely loud so it was challenging to hear the chefs. Despite the ambiance mishaps, the dish's spoke for themselves. The item that felt out of place was the brown butter rice. It was randomly served after miso soup and was quite overpowering. It didn't complement the Wagyu course. I loved the persimmon cake dessert. Over time I think they will perfect the flow and ambiance so I would give it a few months!

One of the most amazing restaurants in Austin! I am gluten free and the chefs were so accommodating! Everything we had was beyond good. The chefs but so much into this menu and it shows! The restaurant is decorated beautifully. The only thing is the chairs at the sushi bar start to hurt your back after a while. But again the food is so good you hardly notice.

A new Japanese restaurant with an incredible omakase experience. A beautiful fusion of Japanese sushi and French influence--every dish was stunning and packed with flavor. The only minor thing I noticed was their dessert pieces were too sweet and was just ok to me.

Carrots were undercooked and soggy at the same time. Tuna tartare was solid but the plantain chips were so thin they broke when you tried to use them as a chip. Nice concept but had little flavor to the plantain. Yucca chips were nice. 1/2 chicken was dry and overpowered by citrus. Market fish was divine. Ambiance was beautiful however it smelled like a mix of fabuloso and used restrooms which was tough to get past. We were also seated in a busy hallway that made it hard to have a conversation. I was a little apprehensive for a couple of reasons: 1-I don't eat seafood. 2-I'm often leery of corporate/chain-style places. *Yes, I go to them but often times not good experiences. Let me tell you something, my concerns vanished almost as soon as we walked in. My cousin made reservations and we were sat immediately. They were pretty busy however, we had such a lovely time that we shut the place down. We were there for almost four hours! It's easy to get lost in conversation with a good glass of wine (or a bottle + several glasses after that lol), good company, food, and a place with great ambiance. The ambiance was spot on. The decor and lighting are exquisite. I can see why so many people choose Truluck's for a special occasion or date night. It's upscale & magical. Truly a premium dinner destination. Service was incredible. Talk about premium...we were treated like royalty. Curtis went above and beyond for us. Such a nice & sweet guy. Even at the end of the evening when we shut the place down, the manager took pics of us on our behalf and chatted with us as well. He didn't make us feel rushed or that we weren't wanted there any longer. Food: We had sides for the table that included asparagus, truffle fries, Lyonnaise potatoes, and Parker House-style rolls. All delicious. I had the tomato salad (minus dressing) with black pepper & it was perfect as a summer main. It paired wonderfully with the asparagus & bread. My cousin had the filet mignon cooked at medium. I had a couple of bites and that was one delicious steak. Her daughter had the Ora King Salmon and she absolutely loved it. She said it was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. My boyfriend and my cousin's sister-in-law had the lobster bisque and they were in heaven. They couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Must have been because it had a strong lobster smell (remember, I don't do seafood). My boyfriend loves a good wedge salad so he had one with his soup. He was definitely jiving on its goodness. The sister-in-law had the jumbo lump crab cake and raved about the texture and flavor. As I mentioned earlier, the wine was flowing. However, I opted for still water with orange & lemon slices. We all had still with either citrus or cucumber slices. My boyfriend and I kind of shared a mini-Manhattan. By kind of I mean I had three sips. That was a proper Manhattan. Cheers to the incredible mixologists on staff. We rounded the evening out with two desserts for the table, Baked Alaska (see vids) & Key Lime Pie. Holy sugar were they good! I was pleasantly surprised by this experience and look forward to going back again. It's nice to be able to spend time with family in such a luxurious setting. Impeccable all around.

The bar definitely had plenty of TVs, so if you're sports person. You could easily catch a game while here. One of the Table tents, notified guest of a happy hour for oysters, which I'm not an oyster fan, but hey to each their own. Had to try out the clam chowder and it was one of the best clam chowder I've had quite some time. You could easily taste the clams at a really nice consistency not too thin, not too thick and I didn't even have to add any salt to it. It was just really tasty. When the clam trotter was delivered, I happened to look at what other plates were on the serving tray ready to go out in one of them happen to be this phenomenal salmon dish. I asked the gentleman what it was and he said it was his favorite dish on the menu, so of course had to try it the salmon dish absolutely out of this world the glaze on it side. It came with it. Everything just fit really well together and y'all that plate was clean by the time it went back. This place is definitely on my shortlist as I really would like to try some of their other plates again that salmon and the clam chowder really made an impression and highly rate this place if you're looking for a good seafood place in Austin. The vibe of the restaurant was laid-back, but also very open, clean setting clean lines plenty of light and they even had really clean restrooms. The staff also was very pleasant and friendly with every one I interacted with.

May be my favorite burger in Austin. It's delicious! Fries - 10/10. Perfectly thin and crispy. Get the caviar ranch! Fried Green Tomatoes - 10/10. We ordered these expecting just a normal appetizer but they were so much better than that! We returned with my parents who agreed they were phenomenal. Tuna Tartar - 9/10. Super flavorful and the wontons provide a good crunch. Mozzarella Sticks - I give them a 8/10 but my husband gives them a 10/10. Lobster roll - this was just fine to us and not worth $40 in our opinion, but we're also not huge lobster people. Cocktails - 7/10. I liked their central market martini a lot on another visit, but this recent time I got a regular dirty martini and it came out with so much ice. After some waiting I got it strained and it was much better. Ambiance is great too! Comfy place, and I love the paper on the tables.

Went inside to check in and was seated on the patio without a reservation. They had a beer and a shot offer for $8 so I had a mezcal shot and added an oyster to it. Also had $10 martinis and I ordered a cocktail to enjoy as well. We ordered 18 of the $3 oysters and they were were fresh, clean, and well-shucked, exactly what you want when you're there for a classic oyster experience. The happy hour pricing made it even better, so it felt like a great value for the quality. Discovered they had $2 oysters from the gulf so we ordered 6 more of those. These were larger in size than the others and a bit more filling. The oysters were served with horseradish, cocktail and mignonette sauce for a fresh and flavorful bite. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything came out quickly. It's a great spot whether you're meeting friends or just stopping in for a casual bite and a drink. Definitely a great place to try oysters happy hour, would love to return and try items from their regular menu.

All of the employees were warm and welcoming and we never felt like a burden. They were kind enough to give us a note signed by all the staff for our anniversary! Our server also gave us complementary champagne as well as a dessert. The restaurant itself is also very cozy. The kitchen is cool as the concept is an open flame cooking. Now the food was simply amazing. The halibut was melt in your mouth and I still am thinking about how good it was. The scallop was probably the best I've ever had, and I love scallops. I had one of their cocktails and it was also outstanding, and the ice cube even had an H on it! For the quality of food I felt the prices were very reasonable on the à la carte menu. If we lived in Austin we would be regulars here for all of our special events! Thank you Hestia team for making our trip so special!

We ordered: scallops, texas Wagyu bavette and halibut. The server recommended the bread so we ordered that too. When we received the bread, it was in a small basket and freshly out of the " oven ", which they seemed to be proud of serving very fresh bread. The bread was approximately 1/6 of the length of a regular baguette for $6 and a bit of unsalted butter. We split the bread in half and after eating a piece, immediately, it tasted gummy and very sour the inside part of the bread. I double checked if the sourness came from the butter, but the butter was fine. The sourness came from the center of the bread. I informed the server that the center was sour/gummy and felt undercooked. They took my piece and returned it to the kitchen and gave us a new piece of bread. But that bread had the same issue. Gummy and sour in the center. I had to peel away that part and just eat the outer parts. For the scallops, unfortunately the sauce did not meet expectations. You could tell the scallops were of high quality, but the sauce was too salty and too acid. What a disappointment. The entrées were fine. The halibut was good, maybe a bit dry, but the sauce saved it. The Wagyu bavette was initially a tad too salty, but then as I kept eating it tasted fine. But I realized I just slowly got used to the saltiness of the meal. This meal ended up being way too salty because I had to drink a huge amount of water and felt dehydrated after this meal (I didn't consume any alcohol!) I did give the feedback about the bread and scallops to the server, he stated that he will share it to the chef. Hopefully they can improve. They did comp the bread which was a nice gesture. I did look online what could cause the gumminess and sourness of the bread (as I was curious if I was the abnormal one) and here is what they say: " A gummy center combined with a very sour taste is the classic signature of an under-fermented loaf (often called "under-proofed").When dough does not spend enough time in the warm bulk fermentation phase, the yeast fails to create a strong, airy structure, leaving the center dense and wet. Concurrently, the bacteria keep producing acid without the yeast balancing it out, resulting in a highly sour, flat flavor. " Solutions to fix this is : " Extend Bulk Fermentation: Let your dough rise longer at room temperature until it increases in volume by 30% to 50% and feels full of air.Watch the Temperature: If your kitchen is cool (under 70°F / 21°C), move the dough to a warmer spot like an off oven with the light turned on.Cool Completely: Always wait at least 2 to 4 hours before slicing into a fresh loaf so the interior starches can finish setting as the steam escapes. " They should have definitely not served us the bread pipping hot and they should have allowed the bread to rise longer. Perhaps take out the bread of your menu if you don't have the time to let your bread rise longer or cool.....
