Fries: Setsuna fries are really unique. They are fries soaked in butter and soy sauce. This lessens the crisp that the fries have, but the flavor is just so unique. Overall good spot with some critiques. Everything had really good flavor. We got the fries with spices and they were easily a 5/5, amazing flavor, didn't even need a dipping sauce imo. We got a side of the curry sauce which was also really good. The hamburger in a meal was nice and juicy. The chicken itself was alright. The crust tasted of oil and was kind of bland. The meat didn't seem great quality because it was very rubbery. The sushi we got had great contents and flavor but the salmon didn't taste that fresh. Everything else was really great but kind of disappointing that the chicken wasn't good as that seems that was supposed to be the star of the show. We walked over here from the Space Needle for a quick lunch. It was a super small hole in the wall. It was also super hot inside, even with a fan and the windows open. I'm sure this isn't a usual issue in Seattle, but the heat from the kitchen was really hitting us. We were seated almost immediately at around 1 PM. We ordered the karaage curry and the loco moco. The portions were really big. While the curry is mainly rice, there were only a few pieces of chicken. The curry sauce tasted really good with the rice. Our friend really liked the loco moco with the macaroni salad. We also tried the grape soda and it was pretty refreshing. While I did enjoy their curry, I probably would want to try another place to eat. It was definitely affordable, being in a busy part of town. I think it would be good for take-out orders. read more

I think this might be one of my new favorite places in town! The staff is very friendly here. A nice touch to the restaurant is that each table has a bin for your coat, bags, and other belongings, similar to many of the restaurants I visited in Japan! This is one of those spots you can go to with your friends to catch up over high quality fried food and Sapporo beer. We ordered a large original kara-age and a large order of setsuna fries with sweet onion ponzu sauce. Split between 4 people, this was more than enough and worth the price. Kara-age is a good option if you want boneless fried chicken. The original kara-age is crispy and flavorful, very juicy on the inside. The setsuna fries were amazingly buttery and thick. I really enjoyed the sweet ponzu sauce, just wish they gave you more for the large amount of fries we ordered. Chicken is my favorite food so I'm a little worried I'll get addicted to this place. Being from Hawaii, There a few times I order food from a Place that claims Hawaiian food and it comes out tasting amazing! This place is not one of those places, however the food is was still clean tasting and good. I ordered several dishes, the loco moco, ramen, chicken kaarage, what appeared to be age-dashi tofu, garlic shrimp, spam roll, and salmon poke. Loco moco: the burger was delicious, mac salad on point, the eggs were more japanese style (along with the burger, had a marinade) and the gravy appeared to be a type of demi-glaze. Overall tasty, and definately fusioned with more of a japanese style influence. 7/10 Ramen: Not what I was wanting when I went to this place, but this ended up being the most tasty dish and my favorite from this place. I love Ramen and have many ramen from Japan and around the world. 8/10 Kaarage(regular/spicy): a place that has the name kaarage must mean they make a mean kaarage? Right? Luckily the kaarage was good! A bit dry from what I am accustomed to but overall great. 8.5/10 Aged Age-dashi tofu: I love age-dashi but this pace is unique as it seems to be stinky tofu that has been fusionized into age-dashi. Love the creativity but not my favorite. 5/10 Garlic shrimp/ Spam Roll: I combined these two because they both were not what I was expecting and expecting to taste. Fusion type for sure, the shrimp was tasty and light! Which was surprising. The Spam roll was basically a americanized sushiroll in sushi vinegar rice with furikake powder. Omgg this is THE BEST kaarage I have had since I was in Japan a few years ago ! It's spicy , moist (lol, obvi a good thing ) meaty ! Mm mm . I've had the karaage takeout and in-store, and it has been crispy and juicy in both of my experiences. I'm just very disappointed in the different flavoring options they have for the karaage. There is never a bad time for karaage. I am so excited to find out that there is a karaage place relatively near my place. I found myself at Karaage Setsuna with a friend because we both were looking for a place that served comfort food. There is nothing quite as comforting as karaage and Hawaiian food in my opinion! This restaurant gets pretty packed around peak hours, so I definitely would suggest eating at around the peak hours if you can, especially if you have a large group because the space itself is fairly small. We ordered a loco moco dish and chicken karaage. Just about everything on their menu is a comfort dish--Japanese curry rice, French fries, and yakisoba to name a few. The dishes were reasonably priced for the quantity and for the fact that it's located in downtown Seattle. The karaage was perfectly crispy and well seasoned. You can choose from three different dipping sauces as well. The loco moco plate came with rice, Macaroni salad, and a boiled egg. I couldn't finish the plate and had to bring some home. The meat was tender and the gravy had a rich flavor to it that complements the macaroni salad perfectly. The service was lacking a bit, as the waiter didn't come by the fill up our cups of water. However, that was understandable because there were a lot of customers when we came in. What Karaage Setsuna lacked in service, it made up for the food, because the food was great! Definitely a hidden gem in Seattle and my go-to place when I'm looking for something that is affordable (for Seattle standards) and delicious at the same time. The quality and service have always been consistent and I love bringing my friends here to enjoy the food together. The karaage here is light and crispy without being too greasy and they offer a lot of fun options for dipping sauces. I find this place to be OK. I got the kaarage plate. The rice and mac salad aren't very notable so I'll skip those. The chicken was kind of a disappointment. They were freshly fried so the crispness and juiciness is really good. The flavor was a big let down though. They didn't really have much flavor and even with the shimichi spice, it was kind of hard eating the chicken with the rice because it didn't have enough flavor. I got the mango bbq sauce on the side so that helped a bit, but I really wish the chicken had more flavor on its own. Maybe getting the curry kaarage plate would be a better move since it has the curry to help the chicken. It's kind of a hole in the wall also so it can get crowded very easily. I think going during lunch on the weekdays, the prices are reasonable. However, looking at the regular prices, I don't think this place is worth it. Yelpers came thru for me big on this one. It's getting cold and dark, but I still want to eat dinner. So instead of heading to my hotel, I get a ride to Karaage Setsuna, with my luggage and everything, and am seated promptly. I'm kind of caving curry, so the curry rice with karaage is their riff on the chicken cutlet, and it's delicious! I'm a little surprised that you don't get to pick the level of spice in the curry, but that's ok. It's got just the right amount of heat, and in no time my plate is clean. If you want any salad or veggies, you have to order it separately. The karaage is awesome. It's crispy, juicy, flavorful and the breading is very light. You get about 8 nice sized pieces of karaage per order. The curry had pretty good flavor, but was a bit thinner than I prefer. The portion sizes here are huge and you will be stuffed. If you're not starving, I would suggest sharing and trying a few things. Service here was quick and friendly. They had no problems splitting the bill for our party. I wish I could have eaten there in the restaurant but the Mr. and I ended up having to do a carry out order. The employees were super nice when I came in. True to their name, the karaage chicken here is straight-up delicious - dark meat so it's juicy and the fry is perfect crispy. This is what I usually get along with a side of the red dipping sauce. The curry is also pretty good if you're into that, but I feel like you get less chicken. The rest of the menu can be spotty (the shabu shrimp was really meh) but there are some other gems here - the savory fries are addictive and the poke salad is criminally under priced for pretty quality fish.
