I didn't think I would find any unique food options when searching for food in La Plata but was pleasantly surprised when this restaurant popped up on my Yelp search. I had little time & a big appetite. The 5 stars & the pictures sold me. When I entered to pick up my order I was greeted with such pleasantries by everyone that worked behind the counter. The smell of the establishment hits you as soon as you open the front doors which is nostalgic of Sunday's dinner of thanksgiving. In my 50 plus years of life, I have never threw a plate of ox tails in the trash. Today was the day. Maybe they specialize in too many foods bbq, soul food and Caribbean. I ordered the ox tails and my god today that was the saltiest piece of meat I have ever tasted. I can't even identify the flavors and I been West Indian all my life. How do you mess up rice. The rice and peas had NO flavor. Also ordered a beef patty and it was Luke warm. I don't understand when I had to wait 30 minutes for the food. Maybe their soul food is better. I'll never know. I was in the mood for fish today and wanted to support a black owned business. They only had fried fish but the person at the front recommended the salmon. I opted for the salmon with greens and beans and rice. The greens are so salty I cannot even enjoy them. Not sure what type of sauce this is but it was spicy as well if I had been told this was how it came I would have asked for no sauce. On top of that there is a 6% sales tax and 4% service free. We were very excited to try this establishment however when entering signs simple states "seat yourself" which we did however after no one came to the table to take order after 15 Minutes we placed the order using the scan code menu thinking perhaps they were like other establishments where you order and they bring the food to table or call you name something. That was not the case! So after 15 wasted minutes and another hour of waiting of which time customers walked in ordered and left. Our in house or online order took OVER AN HOUR to make it complete. THIS WAS THE WORSE SERVICE EVER! Even after that the order was WRONG! I will never go back nor recommend this place. My bf , bff and I left highly disappointed and the food was no where near the quality of such a long wait. I must say the cabbage was cooked well but I didn't like the seasoning, but others may enjoy it. I really loved the ribs & Mac & cheese. My friend got the shrimp mac & cheese can carry chicken which he enjoyed. My 2nd. visit I got the same items except the cabbage. I added the peach cobbler which was different but I enjoyed it! My significant other and I went to Ka'ribbean Fire for take-out. The online menu looked incredible, so imagine my surprise to arrive and find out that smothered fried chicken and smothered pork chops aren't served. Do you know what is like to have your mind set on something and then it is not available? I am serious about food and was too devastated to order a different entrée. My significant other ordered oxtails with cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains. I got a beef patty and peach cobbler. I tasted a little of his oxtails and rice, which were tender and good. However, later that evening he had abdominal trouble. I ate the beef patty and was disappointed. The pastry was good but the interior meat was a paste consistency. I've had better both fresh and frozen. The peach cobbler which had my mouth watering was beyond disappointing. I was served a cup of too sweet peach cobbler filling and some peaches. That was not peach cobbler. Again, I've had better both fresh and frozen. This is a black owned small restaurant, so I want to support it and others. However, based on the above-mentioned, I am on the fence about returning but will give them a few months to pull everything together. I also forgot to mention the interior. This restaurant is really lovely and I believe due to COVID it was void of seating. However, I am sure once COVID restrictions lift, the dine-in experience will be amazing. read more

The portion size was good, the Mac was kind of dry but the yams were good. The egg rolls were soggy in the middle with some kind of cream sauce and it was dripping all over the place. Customer service here sucks - the cashier that had to hit the keys with her knuckles because her nails are too long, is snappy and rude. We arrived excited to try something new with our family while celebrating a birthday. Only to receive fries and bread and beef patties an hour later. Most food was thrown out but was not mentioned because we wanted to support a small black business. Unfortunately, when we got out to the parking lot we were met by a screaming lady yelling at us. She then proceeded to have the rest of the staff come out yelling cussing and acting crazy threatening us because she didn't like the response she got. Once the police were called they quickly realized it was a false claim as we were not the aggressors. It's so unfortunate how black businesses are unable to succeed due to the lack of customer service and professionalism. I take pride in being able to share new businesses with others.
