Food is just simply amazing and packed with mouth watering flavors.

I actually really like this place, the food is good. But the owners of the restaurant, their son; he had bad hospitality. My friends and I came in for lunch and we asked if they could possibly rush our second order cause they took a bit of time the first order. A few minutes later the son said, "if you want fast food, go to a fast food restaurant" out loud for a lot of people to hear. It was obvious he wanted us to hear his comment. We like Kasagiri the best of the three sushi restaurants in town because the food tastes the best for the best value and because we really like the atmosphere. I like the rainbow roll and the miso soup but I've never gotten anything that I didn't like. I would definitely recommend Kasagiri as the best sushi restaurant. read more

My friend and I go to this place at least once a month (she's a local but I'm not). I have NEVER been disappointed by the food or the service. BTW this is about 3 years I have been going. My only complaint is that they are not open on Saturdays for lunch anymore! Booo!!! The fish tastes fresh, the rolls are delicious. The baked mussels with the cheesy stuff on top are the best I have ever had! I would highly recommend that, and the philly roll. Oh and the baja. And the pepperjack! That one is kind of dangerous though because it has fresh jalapenos in it. So some bites are hardly spicy and then some bites are like fire! But I love spicy food so it's all good. Pair that with the cool philly and you will be doin juuuust fine. The tempura is also good. And the dish with chicken and rice (I forget the name) is pretty tasty. I really don't know why this place has several bad reviews! Trust me I have been to almost every sushi place in the AV. This is the second best place I have ever been to in my opinion. Shogun is top. What I care the most about is the fish being fresh (melt-in-your-mouth, not chewy!) and good service. I guess there is no pleasing some people. I don't put away food like a trash can so the fact that they don't have all-you-can-eat bothers me none at all. But I guess some people like to stretch their stomachs! The other place (Ichiban) is slacking, big time. They are nice people but I want raw fish and rice, not fake crab (Kasagiri uses the real stuff) and soggy benito flakes piled on top! I understand they want to get creative but eh....I guess I better leave that for their review! I couldn't disagree with the only 2 poor reviews more. Kasagiris is a special restaurant in a small community where good food is hard to come by (although it is getting better). Takashi and his family have added culture to a small mountain town. My husband and I are big sushi fans, and live in San Diego where great sushi restaurants can be found all over. I lived in Hawaii for several years, and had my share of great Japanese restaurants there too. Kasagiris is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever eaten at. I agree that the wait staff could be a bit better, but the food and experience is exceptional. Thank you for always giving us a wonderful experience when we come to town. I am shocked at the previous reviews of Kasagiri. I have been there several times and the only issue I have had is slow service. But that is mostly due to the restaurant being PACKED! Gina S.'s review states that there is no miso soup at Kasagiri; she is mistaken. I have miso soup every time I am there. My favorite dish is Combination plate B, which has wonderful and light tempura shrimp and vegetables, fried gyoza that tastes great, california rolls, teriyaki chicken and beef. It is always delicious and freshly made! My husband loves the sashimi that comes with Combination C. He's a picky sushi eater and has never said it is stale. One of the things I notice about Kasagiri is the clientele. Tehachapi is not a heavily Asian town, but there are many Asians that regularly frequent the restaurant. I would assume that is because they like the food. The sushi bar is packed with guests, and they order a lot of sushi. Honestly, I have yet to meet a Tehachapi resident that dislikes Kasagiri. My wife and I really like this place. The food is very good. We love the sushi rolls and my wife thinks the Chicken (with a cream sauce and asparagus) is to die for. Katsu is very good. Dropped a star for being a bit pricey and soup brought out before the meal doesn't do it for me. read more

These other reviewers are complete idiots. Kasagiri gets fish shipped to them from LA area twice a week (i asked). They do have miso soup (its delicious). The service can be slow at times if you sit at the tables. The waitresses seem to concerned with text messaging their boyfriends, however if you sit at the bar the service from the chefs is amazing. At first glance the prices seem high, but they give you so much food for the price its amazing. The rolls in other places ive been 6-15$ a roll for a tiny 6-8 piece. Here they give you 10 large pieces for a roll for 10-20$ Odd that the best sushi ive ever had in my life came 100 miles from the coast, but it did. I guess God made cars for a reason. Also some other places get fresh fish shipped to them too (well within 50 miles) cough gina is a moron cough. And Jason eat at a place before you review their food. You probably got sushi and let it sit in your car or fridge for a couple hours before you ate it, of course its not going to taste as good as it does there. I am a chef, I have been working at Kasagiri for almost 6 years now. I always hear people say they don't like to eat where they work, but I am the opposite. I have tried everything on the menu multiple times and I love it all. I didn't know if I should give it a rating or not because I work there and obviously love this place and all the people, but even before I worked there, Kasagiri was my favorite restaurant so 5 stars it gets from me. Please allow me to clear up a few misconceptions. 1. Gina G says, "I steered clear of the fish. I didnt think that they get fresh deliveries being that its the ONLY sushi restaurant out there for like 50 miles. " 1. Honestly Gina, I don't know where you are getting your information from but you are so completely wrong. What do you think, we get our fish from the local lakes? maybe Albertsons?! We actually get fish delivered multiple times a week from a seafood company out of Long Beach. They also deliver to many other places on their round. Your assumption robbed you from some great sushi. Believe it or not some people will drive a couple hours to make some money, its called work. Even before a fish company delivered to us, the owner would drive down to LA a few times a week to pick up some fresh fish. 2. Prices- The prices are a little high yes, but the rolls are much much larger than any other place i've ever been to. I feel sushi should be about quality and I would pay the higher price for the better fish. Eating anything raw is always a little risky, why take a chance on bad fish from chains? -Coming from a sushi chef, two things that should never go together are: -All you can eat. -Sushi. All you can eat sushi is a horrible idea, if the place puts out good fish they are going to lose money so of course they are going to put out mass amounts of garbage. Anyone who loves all you can eat sushi for 25$ doesn't know the first thing about good sushi. (the exception would be the cooked rolls) 3. Service. A lot of people complain about the service. I can't blame them here. Currently at the date i'm writing this, every waitress we have in awesome. They try hard, they are all pleasant and know what they are doing. In the past however we have had some pretty bad waiters and waitresses, i'm not going to lie. There is a long wait at times, but we sometimes have more demand than we can put out in 20 minutes. Now for my favorites! Spicy tuna roll, Salmon roll, Any Nigiri sushi, Chirashi, Rainbow marine roll. sashimi B Seafood udon, Gyu don, yakimeshi(fried rice), sukiyaki, tempura udon, Zaru soba, My wife loves the avocado chicken bowl, and cucumber rolls! This is the go to spot when me and my husband have a date. I don't eat seafood so I usually get the chicken teriyaki. And my husband always orders sushi. The food is always consistently good with a lot of flavor. I would recommend making a reservation though as the building is on the small side and can fill up fast. read more

Although the quality of the sushi was great, it didn't make up for the utter lack of customer service. Our server took 15-20 minutes to get to us for everything, despite the place clearing out less than half way through our meal. We told her we were ready for our check and waited at least 15 minutes to receive it. Then, despite having put our card on the check immediately, she went on to do busy work that wasn't needed at the moment and we also saw her eating. After about 20 minutes we just went to the cash register to pay because we had waited so long. Also watching people who work there take shots with customers was so unprofessional. Our sushi was very good. The magoro tuna and the hamachi in the sushi came in large and generous chunks and both had that mild flavor you get from really fresh fish. The waitresses were sweet and determined to do the job properly. They brought us a delicious little dish of marinated fish-cake. Decor-wise, it reminded me of some rural eateries I went to in Japan -- clean, a little cluttered, and very sincere. It's not grand or pretentious and they don't do knife shows or make onion volcanoes like some places that claim they are Japanese. I'll be back. read more

I went to Kasagiri on 6-27-13 to celebrate my daughters 15 birthday. The waiter never came back to see if we wanted another drink. The Salmon dinner I ordered was good but there were only two little peaces of potatos on the plate. At the end of are meal the Older Japanese Lady leaned over to me and said "you need to move." I said what and she said you "need to move know." My son looked over at me and said I think she is trying to say it is time for use to go. Thats when she said "yes it is time for you to go." Thats when I said I was getting ready to go, I was just looking at the bill, so I could get the tip to correct. I don't want to short the waiter Thats when the Old Japanese Lady said no "you need to get up and leave know we need this table." I got mad and said you are rude. I have never been treated like this in a restaurant before. Then one of the female waitreses came over and said what's the problem? I told her she is being rude. I tryed to tell her what had just happend. she ripped the bill right out of my hand and said I am going to get the manager. I said I don't give a shit she is rude. The waitress came back with my bill and said we took 20% of your bill. I said I don't have a problem with paying full price for are dinner. I just don't like being treated like that. The waitress contunued to be rude to me like it was my fault. I tryed to talk to her and she would not talk to me she would just walk away. I have never ever been treated like that in a restaurant before. I have eaten there lots of times and this has never happend to me and my family before. I guess this is the way they treat everyone know because thats what all the other reviews say. I will never go back to that shitty restaurant ever again. I am a long time Tehachapi resident who has live in this town for over 41 years. i am a japanese, born and spent 40+ years in japan and currently living in california. i would say this restaurant is almost authentic japanese style, cooked under the supervision of a japanese chef. in other words, if you do not like this taste, i would not recommend you to go to japan on business or sightseeing, or you should not go to any places other than mcdonald's while you are in tokyo. one small complaint is the slow service.... it was not lightning fast when i tried this place for the first time, in busy saturday evening. read more
