Chili Cheese Cajun dog w/ jalapeños

This place ain't it. Chili is flavor-less. The woman making the food does every hot dog alone and one by one. It feels like people come here to support her and not the food itself.

I had to wait for 5 minutes and was given a free bag of chips. Great service and they have regulars. It was the first time I went into this one.

Hours on door state closes at 5pm. I stopped to pick up Hot Dog for my Senior friend. The two employees waved to me as I exited my car closed at 4:45pm.

As a kid I used to passed this on my way to school and I think tried it once as a young adult. Now 30 years later it one of the few locations still open. Did you know its founder was Armenian? When I was a kid I didn't know what Armenian was, but with time and travel I end up working in one the 2 largest Armenian communities outside of Armenia, but I digress. Have moved back I'm trying my old haunts (that are still around and haven't succumbed to gentrification. Kaspers is one of them. The decor certainly hasn't gentrified from the late 60s or 70s and the orange strips are calling Austin Powers for reboot. Menu is simple and service is simple. Hotdogs, chips, and fountain drinks. Step up, tell the nice lady what Hot dog you want, what if any topping you want and for there or to go. Toppins like onions, tomatoes are fresh cut. The ladies know their regulars. I ordered the cajun dog, with onions and tomatoes and mustard, bbq chips, and an orange fizz. (Note it not actually fizzy, but reminds me a nonfrothy orange julius) In a world of overload this was a nice simple lunch for under $9.

Kasper's with a "K"! Don't be fooled by Casper's with a "C" if you're looking for the original Chicago-style hot dog from the Armenian who started it all in Oakland, Kasper Koojoolian. These are the BEST hot dogs in the East Bay...bar none! These hot dogs are 100% beef, unlike the ones sold by Casper's. This is easily verified by looking at the ingredients of the Casper's hot dogs sold at Costco. Oakland, San Leandro, Castro Valley, Pleasanton, and Concord are the last Kasper's locations that are still running. I've seen the Fremont and Hayward locations close in recent years so I'm hoping the other five are here to stay! On a related note, I would love it if the "Original" location on 45th and Telegraph in Oakland would reopen. That place has been closed since 2003. Anyway, whenever I come to Kasper's, I always order the 1/4lb-er with cheese, tomatoes, and ketchup. YUM!...I'm hungry just thinking about it! If you like Chicago-style hot dogs, then Kasper's is the place to go!

Very nostalgic in every way. And delicious meat dogs with ample choices ample condiments and portions. Kraut dog made me happy and the kids chowed down as fast as they could. Definitely deserves its loyal fan base - we will come again

Yes, I LOVE the beef dogs here!

Been coming here for a very long time. Kasper's has a very interesting and long history in the Bay. All types come here to get a dog or two, tamale, chili or a combo. The dogs are made to order and are 100% beef - not to be confused with their kinfolk who own Casper's on Telegraph Avenue on the Northside. Casper's hotdogs are pork and I just can't make that happen. The two ladies are super cool & know most of their customers cuz they're regulars. I remember when these dogs were $2.00 and that wasn't in 1911 either - just so you know! Kasper's was my gourmet treat back in my college days when I was cranking out midterms + finals.....O yeah! I typically get a combo but end up eating just the one dog with mustard, onion, tomatoes, relish and I add dill pickles. I don't eat here often but when I do, I try so very hard to eat two cuz they are just sooooooo delish!

I enjoyed this sauerkraut dog so much I ordered another one!

So...I ate 3 hotdogs. If you personally know me, you know that is quite a feat! What drove me to glutinous, reckless abandon? The steamed buns and dogs themselves. The hot dog snaps when you bite into it and there isn't a gush of gross fat sludge after the snap. Also, the hot dog wasn't super salty like say, a Hebrew National hot dog. The soft steamed warm bun was everything I love about carbs. The humble, clean space isn't what makes this a great place. The hot dogs, the price, and the friendly personable service made this a great place to grab and go. Loved it. Can't wait to visit again.

I always get the "Cajun Dog," with everything, sub brown mustard, add sauerkraut. Nice and spicy! Basic, but just what you'd expect. Hot and fresh.

Their food is freaking fantastic. I ordered the corn beef and hash which came with two toasted eggs and a side of sourdough toast. Their coffee is also top-notch and I'm crazy picky about coffee. I could only eat half of my meal, but I was happy to take the rest home for breakfast tomorrow. Staff was super nice and friendly. I got seated right away although it did get busy and there was a line right after I got there on a Friday around 10:30 AM. Can't wait to come back and try their other items. Great great job.

The restaurant itself is so well decorated and even has a fireplace. It's only downstairs the upstairs seems to be all storage. The outside was also set up cutely but it was pretty windy. The staff was all super lovely, even though it was crazy busy and there were a bunch of people waiting that staff was amazing and got us in and out of there in no time. The food even came super quick. The food itself was a bit of a let down but I'm not giving up! I got the chilaquiles with scrambled eggs. The chilaquiles themselves were pretty soggy and not much flavor. There was a light tomato flavor but not enough to make it amazing. They did have a lot of extra condiments which I appreciated but cholula could only save them so much. Even the eggs they were pretty tasteless I had to load them up with pepper. That being said they were very soft and moist.

How have I grown up in the Bay Area without knowing about Crogan's? I was invited to attend a…read morepresentation (about cremations) and lunch was to be provided here at Crogan's. Nestled comfortably in a cute little section of shops in Montclair, it is conveniently located to public transportation, I decided not to drive and hopped on the 18 bus from downtown Oakland and it was a short 3-5 minute walk to the restaurant. As you walk in, you instantly notice how spacious the space is. Plenty of seating and a bar area- visually it gives me the vibe of "Cheers" and I'm waiting for Norm to walk in any minute. I arrived at 11:30 for the presentation and there were only a few people inside. Upon leaving a couple hours later, the restaurant was almost full on a Thursday afternoon. Our party was a total of 11 including our host and we were seated in a private area in the back. So this would be perfect if you are looking for a place to rent for a special event- it could easily fit 15-20 people. Now, on to the food- when I tell it came out piping hot and fresh! We were told that we could order anything off the menu up to $26. The menu cost range was about $6-30 so pretty affordable in this economy. I ordered the fish and chips as did a few other people. Everyone raved about how fresh their food was. My fries were seasoned perfectly and needed no salt. The fish was cod I believe and came with (3) medium sized strips and I got a side of coleslaw. The fish wasn't really seasoned at all BUT it was so crunchy and crispy (texture) and the inside was so flaky, tender and super fresh like they caught the fish outside. I was able to eat a couple of pieces and took the rest home- NOTE: the fish doesn't reheat well in the oven so it needs to be devoured when you order. The person to the right of me ordered the shrimp and avocado salad which looked really appetizing. A good portion of bay shrimp alongside ripe avocado, tomatoes on top of a bed of greens. The gentlemen to the left of me ordered a double portion of ribs. I wish I could've snuck a photo- the ribs were HUGE and he didn't talk the entire time which is a good sign. Overall, this is a family friendly sit down place with great American and Seafood options. Food is prepared fresh to order- I definitely will be back to check other options on the menu!
