I was contemplating leaving this review, as this is one, if not the only sushi spot we visit in Turlock. Review is based on service only. We went last week and were seated quickly and given menus. However, we waited approximately 20-25 minutes and we were still not even acknowledged or offered any drinks. I understand times can get busy, but a simple acknowledgment or "thank you for waiting" goes a long way. Then we noticed a couple who arrived after us were attended first. We have been here a handful of times and do like the place the problem is service place is never completely full but they still manage to have extremely long wait times the last time we came in for dine in we got seated after a 45 minute wait and our order was never taken after being seated for approximately 20 minutes we decided to leave today we decided to give them another shot we were told 45 minute wait again mind you the restaurant only had a few tables occupied talk about turning a decent place into a bad place because of its customer service. Katana Sushi Bar is by far the best sushi in Turlock. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and nice inside. The staff is also very friendly and helpful when it comes to navigating the menu. The spider roll and dragon roll are my personal favorites. The food is delicious and I can't get enough sushi. Hogwarts needs sushi and now I know it. I highly recommend Katana. read more

Disappointed because the food actually got better, but the service was very unprofessional. Called in an order over the phone and was told 20-25mins after being hung up on the first time. When this restaurant was named Sushi Garden, everything was perfect. The rolls and the Miso soup was amazing!!! Within the last two months, I have ate at Katana 3 times. The first 2 times, my stomach hurt within the first 20 minutes of finishing my role and I ended up having stomach issues for the rest of the night. The third and final time I ate there I actually ended up having food poisoning like symptoms. I ended up at the hospital for severe dehydration. I'm not sure what happened to their quality of fish but it has gone way down. The rolls don't taste very good. Their Miso soup tastes like water....no flavor at all. Unfortunately I will never eat here again. We now eat at Samurai Sushi in Turlock....I have ate here twice in the last week and my stomach is perfectly fine with zero hospital visits. I support local businesses to help bring money into our sweet little town, but unfortunately this business I can't support. Not when I end up in the hospital for 48 hours. read more

Came here after searching for lunch locations on yelp. They have a cute outdoor seating area with fans. They also have a bar which is new from the last time I came. We had a spider roll, California roll and their chicken Katsu. All three dishes were delicious just took a while to be served. Right when Katana opened years ago we went and service was the worst I have ever had in my life and sushi was just ok with very little flavor. I knew they had just reopened and forgave the crap service because obviously they were working out the kinks. Well a year later (a few weeks ago) we decided to give it a chance again hoping it improved. I honestly think it was worse than before. We ordered edamame beans that we got 1hour after ordering and 2 simple rolls that came out 30 minutes after that. It's pretty sad when people sitting around us got their food before us. We had little kids with us that were hungry. It was 8:30 at night when we got our food. It's not like we could have gotten up and went to another restaurant. So we waited. There was only 2 servers working I get they must have been busy, but it was the same servers that were there last time we went which tells me they just need to hire more people to work. However after getting our rolls we scarfed them down because we were starving, but honestly it was 5/10 sushi. Just not much to it. The rice corner in Turlock is counter ordering and their sushi beats this. I leave this review to hopefully correct this. I noticed you had a lot of regulars in their that are friends with your staff which is great for them and your business, but when my kids are hungry and service is shit but my waiter is taking shots with their friends in the corner that pisses me off. The best part is we were never told the kitchen was behind and they forgot to make our food. We were told when we went to pay that he was sorry about the wait.... Went for lunch with 6 people. .3 got food next 3 were 25 more minutes. Plates were rushed together. Our sashimi was on ice that had melted and made fish soggy. Not anything like when it wA Benny and Issac as a team. New bar drinks bad. Serveres were really busy and new manager came in with fr6, sat down and never helped out. Won't be going back. Sad because this has been our favorite for years. The shrimp tempura is now the cheap panko pieces. It's just all down hill. Pretty good service. We stopped in for Father's Day lunch here and the food was decent. By no means the best sushi I have ever had but not the worst. My kids ordered a chicken teri roll which my son who dosent like sushi enjoyed. My daughter who's middle name is Harmony ordered a Harmony roll but the garlic sauce was over powering and the scallops were fishy. Mine was a tempera roll which was good and a spicy tuna roll. I wanted to use the RAD card so I chose to try Katana. I wanted a bento type box for me, my husband and our son. We chose beef teriyaki, mixed nigiri, and sesame chicken. The nigiri came as sashimi so my husband was extremely disappointed. The meals also come with a mixed greens salad, tempura and potato salad. That potato salad is more like mashed potatoes with wasabi.. very strange. The sesame chicken was hard, like it had been sitting all day. My son said the beef was okay. The tempura was awful- the veggies were pretty much raw inside so very crunchy broccoli and carrots. I was also surprised that my bill was $129(showed that on my receipt) but to my surprise I was charged $151. I am very sad that it took almost all of my RAD card funds for a crappy meal. :( read more

I tried to reach out to Katana. Sadly uninterested. Dear Katana, big plus for friendly server and cashier! 1. Sticky table required a washing. 2. Price for Dragon roll 30% over better restaurants. 3. Five flies would not leave my table area. 4. Waited 5 -10 minutes for Miso to be served "15 seconds before" roll. Odd and awkward. 5. Watched and listened to five staff hanging out around end of bar. Inappropriate language and demeanor. Lazy...disinterested...untrained? 6. Dragon roll...honestly, I've had supermarket which rivaled yours. Shrimp was out of cooler, prepared much earlier as it was cold. I've never had a cold Dragon roll. Looked like cornmeal covering. Rice clumpy. Tasted odd. Edible perhaps, but did not enjoy at all. I wanted to stop eating and go to taco shop...but this was costing me $20.00. TWENTY DOLLARS for one sub standard sushi roll. My intention is not to belittle your new restaurant. I was a business owner for 40 years. I lived and died by customer feedback. I wish you to succeed. However you'll never improve unless people are honest with you and you're willing to listen. I'd hoped the previous owners attempts would be improved upon, as I live fairly close. But, from what I can tell...there is no difference at all. Nice lights perhaps? When I went to the restaurant the man up front was dismissive and said "I don't know what to tell you. No one that doesn't work at the sushi bar shouldn't promise a particular time."
