I ended up over here after another bakery I frequent was busy! Despite it being a Saturday late morning, the vibe was very laid back and seating was available immediately, it was quiet and just what I needed on my day off. The patio is very cute, shady, and secluded if you don't mind street traffic sounds (on the quieter side, but it is right next to a busy street). Mario was very nice! He was very accommodating and service was fast. I had a quick breakfast, croissant, and cappuccino and was out within 30 minutes (I could have stayed longer for sure, but I made it short and sweet today). Food was great, originally I was planning on just getting coffee and a pastry but I'm very glad I stayed to try a plate. The sweet potato hash with eggs and bacon was perfect, I did have a tiny bit of cholula with it as that's how I usually eat my hash but it was great on its own, no modifications really needed. You do have the option instead of toast to have a croissant with it and this was a nice treat with my cappuccino (they do have alternative milk which I appreciate as an Italian who unfortunately can't drink a ton of dairy at once lol) I say you should try it!! The background music at the right volume soothed me. I met up with a friend of mine at this place for a brunch at 10:30am on a Saturday. From the past experience, I knew it might be hard to grab a table during the peak time in the morning especially on a Saturday. I needn't worry; there were a good number of tables available inside and outside. This place has everything: from benedicts to crepes to quiches to French toasts to fruit cups to salads, I mean you name it. Out of so many items on the menu, my friend and I went with crepes. I went with Boulder (crepe). It's got sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, spinach, haystack goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes. I asked for an addition of one-egg scrambled. My friend went with Breakfast (crepe) (bacon, egg and cheese) with avocado addition. Just so you know, they have both savory and sweet crepes. My crepe was amazingly good; A little tanginess that comes from the sun-dried tomatoes did the magic by adding a great flavor to the entire dish. And both hers and mine crepes were a good size (we couldn't finish it so we asked for boxes.) Now, this place got busy after 11:30am. It took such a long time before our waitress got us the boxes and the bill (because she was busting her bottom.) We were very understanding of it; it appeared a little short-staffed and fortunately, we had time. We, of course, stopped by at the display of cakes and pastries to look at before walking away from the restaurant. Everything looked amazing but I went with the lemon tart. My friend got her a chocolate croissant. There was a huge display of Eiffel Tower built with Lego pieces (which had a sign that said "Do not touch"); I took a picture of it. I was able to try their espresso (which I found it hard to find good espresso in Denver), banana Nutella crepe, and their apple/brie omelette. The food and service was amazing. Came for a late lunch and it took a few minutes to get seated but nothing crazy. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with a side of pasta salad. The chicken salad was okay, but nothing special. I was hoping for a more flavorful experience, but it was comparable to any grocery store deli, really. The croissant was buttery and delicious, which salvaged the meal. The pasta salad was very dry, and I wanted to ask for extra dressing, but the server wasn't anywhere to be found. Given the lackluster experience thus far, I opted against getting dessert, mainly because I didn't want to be disappointed again after my lunch, but maybe that's where they shine. My daughter and I ordered a BLT to share and a French onion soup to share plus a coffee and an iced tea. When I asked for a straw for the iced tea I was ignored so I had to get up and ask for one. I'm no Karen and I've worked in restaurants for years, so I seldom complain and we weren't going to complain about the bad service and food ...until...my daughter then ordered the quiche because the soup was not fit for consumption. The quiche was grossly eggy and cold in the middle. When the owner dropped off the quiche, I asked for more iced tea. After 10 minutes I got up again to request more tea. When he asked what was wrong and I tried to e plain, he became hostile and said: "We aren't McDonalds!!!' Well sir, I've been eating at your restaurant since my daughter was in diapers and the food and service used to be okay. I ordered a SAUSAGE QUICHE W/FRUIT as well as a CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST w CARAMELIZED RUM BANANA TOPPING. The filling on the quiche is amazingly fluffy and flavorful. The quiche crust is nice and tender but slightly underdone. The french toast is yummy but the alcohol from rum was not cooked off completely so I had to push those to the side. They make cakes fresh everyday! This chocolate mousse cake was so moist and savory! We got this cake for my friends birthday! The chocolate cake is moist and has a great chocolate taste! The mousse is a little watery. The frosting on top is whipped cream so that was a delightful twist (I'm so use to buttercream frosting). Had the scrambled egg breakfast and a cappuccino, and got a pack of the French macarons on my way out. Definitely recommend this place. Recently on Saturday October 11 2008, a group of us who crave for our monthly cupcake fix came here. Personally, Katherine the Chef was indeed wonderful to be there when we meet her. She baked us like about 4 different flavors of cupcakes. For our tasting, she did not charge any cupcakes at our table. But we offer her a group tip for this service. Indeed she was this wonderful. Furthermore the other owners and chef, Mario was also accomodating to our needs and assists us in any shape or form. He is so friendly and not forgetting the rest of the staffs of Katherine's French Bakery. The flavors that I could recall were Red Velvet, Pumpkin Spice, Orange White Cupcakes and Chocolate Cupcakes. My sincere apologies Katherine, coz I AM NOT WOW by your cupcakes... but what STOOD OUT for me was The Pastries you have. While having our cucpakes at Katherine's I also ordered the Hibiscus Hot Tea since on that day, it was quite cooling, glommy day with rain. I purchased several pastries for me and hubby to take home. Hubby loves it so much... I was surprised that hubby likes pastries to begin with.
