Burgers are so good! Walked in on a whim because we were looking for something halfway between the museum of science and industry and downtown. Ben was so hospitable! We didn't know they didn't have seating and he asked us if we were eating in our car and we said we were going to walk to the nearest park. He told us there was no reason to go out in the cold and brought out two tables and chairs from storage so we could eat in the warm store. Unbelievable! He also told us he plans on adding seating soon. As for the food, it was just as amazing. I had a cheeseburger and fries with a Coke for a reasonable price but the quality of the food vastly surpassed the price. After learning that this was our first time, Ben told us we HAD to try their famous chicken sandwiches. So he went to the back and made us two, then cut them into five pieces for us to try. I cannot rank this deli high enough! I've been sick the last few days and had finally managed to get an appetite back and the only thing I wanted in my life was a turkey sandwich. Unfortunately, the cabinet was bare (as was my checking account) and I didn't have the willpower to get to the grocery store. So I jumped on GrubHub just on the chance I could find something to be delivered in my budget...and low and behold, Kathy De's was there to welcome me! With no minimum order charge and only $3.00 delivery, it was exactly what I needed. Honestly, I would have been perfectly happy with a soggy, month-old-toppings sandwich at this price. But the quality of the food I got could rival even the higher-end deli's I've eaten at! It was delicious and exactly what I needed! I got an 8" sub, intending to save half for later....but it was so good that I just had no restraint and gobbled the whole thing right up! Not to mention that the service was so great. The driver was incredibly friendly and chirped a happy "Heeeyyy, Angela! Lunch is served!" into my cellphone when he called to let me know food was delivered. I'm so, so sad I'm moving from this area soon and only just found this place. Ah well. I know who I will turn to on my moving day when all I need is a good turkey sandwich to drive the stress away. I was kind of happy that I was able to visit this spot again. The food in here is really good and the prices are very reasonable. When I went in here for the first time, I was like this is definitely one of the good spots in the area and it is still is. It is just basically a small spot that you most likely bumped into and it is located in Hyde Park. They still do not have a parking but there is a street parking that I found just near it. The staffs are so nice and very friendly and most importantly they have a variety of options on their menu. What I like about them is that their food is reasonable and at the same time it is so good. I just order an Italian sub with fries and a cup of coffee. I stayed inside and the atmosphere was really nice. I highly recommend this spot this is just so nice the food is good and they are definitely a spot where you can go if you are in a hurry to grab some food because they make sandwiches or any food in their menu really fast. read more

Just as everyone has said before, the cajun chicken sandwich is prob the best sandwich I've ever eaten. I've been coming to Kathy De's for a while now but finally decided to write a review because of the amazing service I recently received, but their service is always great. I walked in after a long day of moving and it was very obvious that I was exhausted. The owner (at least I think it was the owner) noticed and grabbed my order quickly from the back. "Fresh out the kitchen" he exclaimed. As he rung my order up, he tossed in a side pasta salad "on the house." And let me tell you, that pasta salad was one of the best I've had. Awesome little place. You get a ton of food for a low price, the staff is super accommodating and friendly, and the food is fresh and hot when you get it. Never had a bad meal here! It's a super casual little place, like eating your sandwich in a grocery store or deli. There are no indoor tables but the outdoor seating makes for a nice place to eat with kids. Side note- I ate here alone with my preschool aged son last week and we sat outside. A random older drunk man who was leaving was asking for my sons left overs and Mario came out right away to be sure we weren't being bothered and everything was ok. I really appreciated that! We were fine, pretty sure the drunk guy was just looking for a free meal (it was a little annoying but I didn't feel my safety threatened at all), but it was nice to see a staff member who cares for the customers!! Great find! Fantastic Burger and Eggplant Parmesan! My ten year old and I really enjoyed our meal. This review is based on my experience with their catering and not so much their food. I'd been to Kathy De's on several occasions and the food was usually above average. So when given a chance to order food for an event we were hosting, I wanted to support one of the few local restaurants in our neighborhood instead of the usual big pizza venue close by. I placed our order and was told they'd call me by the end of the day with a total. The call never came but I didn't see any reason to worry. I had explained my hope to do more business with them and a few of our staff had ordered many times from them in the past. The day of our event came and our food was delivered on time, a good sign. But as the food was unpacked, I realized I only had 1 tray of subs and not 2 like I'd ordered. Each 1/2 tray was good for 15-20 people and I had 40 people to feed. I realized that wasn't going to be enough and called over to Kathy De'a to find out what happened. Instead of chalking it up to miscommunication, which I would have accepted, I was basically told it was my fault the order wasn't correct. I didn't have time to argue so I just ordered another 1/2 tray and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. In reality, it took about 20-25 minutes. This experience had quickly gone south but I didn't realize just how bad until I looked at the receipt I was given earlier when they delivered the food. I ordered 2 half trays of chicken salads and she told me there would be an increase in price because it wasn't the basic salad but she didn't say how much. How much more could it be I thought. Shame on me for not asking. Try almost double. Yes, I paid double for them to add chicken to my salad. I'm surprised they didn't charge me for the salad dressings. The highlight of the whole entire order? The half tray of french fries, and that was about it. 2 half trays of chicken salads, 2 half trays of mini subs, 1 half tray of french fries and 3 individual garden salads cost almost $300 dollars! They even charged $14 for plates, forks and knives for 40 people. I should have bought them at Costco. Moral of the story? Go for a hot lunch but stay away from the catering. It's a shame that we couldn't do more business with a small neighborhood restaurant as we had hoped to do. Guess we'll stick to the usual reliable places we've been ordering from up until now. read more

Great place to grab a bite to eat! Found it on yelp prior to heading to a meeting out south. I had the Meat Loaf and mashed potatoes which was really good. The food, service and price was top notch. The menu offered everything fresh from sandwiches, sub's, burgers, chicken, shrimp, soup and salads. Had a side of pasta salad which was just made and it tasted amazing. The owners take a lot of pride in their business and treated me like a regular. Will definitely be back and try other menu options. I have since returned because if this immense CRAVING I had for the breaded steak. Red sauce, Giardiniera and BAM! All in my belly! Aaaand I got the Cajun Char Chicken and it is pretty splendiferous. The cucumber makes it. And I'm not a cucumber fan, but the way it all comes together with the mayo sauce is ridic. Aaaaand I'd like to take a bath in that Giardiniera. Fries are also quite good. I just give them to my 2 year old because I'm a terrible parent, but whatever, he was hungry and I had fries I wasn't eating. Cajun Chicken Sandwich was ok, bread was super fresh and cucumber were good, chicken was juicy but needs more layers of flavors, Cajun Mayo was ok but could use a bit more zip. This place is great. A small, family owned business who seem to have a loyal following of customers. Best breaded steak sandwich I've ever had. My favorite soup is the cream of chicken.
