Good food. Order the katsu curry that was amazing. All I can say is the food is spicy.

I was so excited to see this spot was open so I had to swing by. This spot is located in Culver Plaza near Panda Express and Wagyu Beef Grill. Plenty of parking available. The inside is on the smaller side so I can definitely see it being hard to secure a spot to dine in when it's busy. The owner was very welcoming and worked with pride which is warranted. I came on Wednesday for their $13 curry udon special. The specials are dine-in only fyi! I got the beef katsu at extra spicy level. Though it could've been a little spicier, the flavors were delicious. The beef was juicy, but the chicken portion was larger if you're looking for more volume. The udon itself was the proper texture, not too chewy but I wish there was a little bigger portion for the udon. The curry was great and paired well with the katsu. The owner made sure everything came out okay and even offered us a bottle of their delicious strawberry milk. I'm not usually a fan of sweet drinks but this was very balanced and great for the end of the meal. Overall, great food and very hospitable spot. I will certainly be back for their other delicious looking specials. read more

Their katsu is great! I got their katsu sandwich with the curry dip and that curry dip is freaking amazing! It's a must! Dip your katsu pork sando in that and wow. I came here initially because I was looking for Japanese egg sando, no where has ever come close to making it like the convenience stores in Japan. I was extremely dissappointed in their egg sando here - it was dry and not the usual soft Japanese bread that makes an egg sando great. First time trying this place after seeing it a few times online and it did not disappoint! I got the rosemary katsu sandwich with chicken and the waffle fries and it was amazing. The chicken was tender, the bread was soft, and the fries were perfectly crispy. The employee helped me pic which one and gave me a side of all the sauces to try which was so nice! My family of five wanted to treat ourselves to good food! The katsu curry is done in a Korean style that pleased our Korean parents. The tteok is soft and chewy (밀떡!) as my younger sister likes. We devoured everything we ordered - four dishes to feed five, two parents in their fifties and their three kids (23,19,15 - growing boy!). The katsu was well cooked and covered in a good amount of batter. I really appreciate the sauces that are used - the flavoring reminds me of a Korean-American-Japanese fusion. Service was kind. My brother had asked for a cup of hot water, and the person working heated it up for him! Thank you so much. The servers were patient with our questions regarding the best things to get. We came at a time when there weren't that many people and got to fully experience a lovely place to grab a meal! We ordered the katsu plate and the spicy chicken udon. Tha katsu plate was mediocre at best and the Katsu sauce came cold. The udon was so much worse, it was straight up frozen udon that has been cooked and they clearly used Ramen spice packets of some sort and threw in some dry diced chicken. I have such a low bar for food honestly, and this didn't even hit that. I only came because this instagram influencer Kell @_myfoodiediary_ advertised it, and I'm seriously questioning the integrity of food influencers after this restaurant experience. 5 stars for it being an amazing fast casual experience with little to no areas of improvement, and not necessarily 5 starts cause it's the best katsu I've had. But the first thing that stuck out is that they have an amazing shared outdoor patio area in front of the store that is shared with the other store in the plaza. But it's partially covered with an overhanging structure and really heavy duty chairs and tables. Makes for a great outdoor eating spot when the weather is nice (which is was when I ate here). The other surprising thing was how good their black garlic ramen was. Just *chef's kiss*, perfectly umami flavor with bouncy noodles. Shocked how good this was for a non-ramen specific spot. I still don't understand why they want to put fried katsu in soup though, it got soggy and wasn't great. Their sando's were solid, but I would stay away from any flavored katsu sauce. The lady working the register recommended the berry katsu and it was not great. Other than that, the service was friendly and helpful when needing utensils etc. Will come back. read more

I think this is my 2nd time here, and the food is fine. My review here is on the customer service and follow up. My family went and ordered 2 chicken plates to go, we opened them and ate them down the street at another restaurant where my son wanted to eat. We opened them up and realized we received one fish and one chicken plate, and the fish plate had a hair in it, I udnerstand it happens, but still gross. I went back to the store to see if I could get my money back or something, since it's not what I ordered and there was a hair in it. The cook and cashier tried to do something w/ the register but explained they can't do anything with the order since the owner wasn't there. No other attempt at helping me out here. They took my name and number down and promised the owner would call/text to help me out. It's been 4 days and no contact has been made. It's not about the money, but you would think if the restaurant made a mistake and said the owner would contact you, that would be a priority. Needless to say, I don't plan on coming back here. Ordered the rice katsu bowl with beef katsu and it was not enjoyable at all. The katsu was dry with no flavor, and the egg with onion was EXTREMELY sweet. The marinade in the egg was so strong I could barely tell I was eating egg. It could've been that I ordered a bad menu item but it was surprising since it was on chefs specials. Decided to check out this spot that just recently opened! I've had Katsubar in Westminster before and remember it being really good and this place was just as amazing! If anything, maybe even more because of the customer service. Despite the self service ordering system, Ethan was very kind and helped my group with everything. It was just him in the front I believe so it took a while for our parties food to come out but I did not mind. Ethan so graciously gave us a strawberry sando and strawberry milk which he didn't have to but so kind of him I got the Rosemary Katsu Sando w/ Waffle Fries. The katsu was also moist, and the sauce they used had a good flavor. The Katsu Curry Rice, was ok. It was spicy and has a good kick. The flavor average. It wasn't anything special to it. It came with pickled turnip and a side salad. The portion is hefty for a regular size. The Yubu Pocket, while interesting and fancy on the traditional Inari, in my opinion, can be skipped. The rice was moist but lacked flavors. The tofu skin didn't have the sweet flavor found in an Inari. It wasn't anything that, when bitting into, made you say, wow, this is good. It was mediocre. Katsu Bar opened up in the 99 Ranch/CVS/Tasty Garden plaza at the food court. Perks of this spot is that there's lots of parking and outdoor seating. Customer service is bare here; you order from a kiosk and pick up your food when called. I got the chicken katsu curry at regular spice level and liked how I could choose to opt out of the sides I didn't want such as the macaroni salad to cut down on food waste. My meal was only ok. It wasn't bad, but it was bland. I've gotten regular spice levels at Coco Ichibanya and Curry House, so I don't think ordering regular spice level was the issue here. The curry was just slightly savory but I had a hard time pinning down any curry flavor. The chicken katsu was odd. While it was nice and crispy, it had a spongy texture that reminded me of chicken nuggets more than katsu. The one perk though is that the portion size is decent and was more than enough food for me. However, if I ever crave curry katsu in the future, I'd probably go to Hako, Sagami, or Curry Ichibanya instead. read more
