I didn't know what the difference was from their regular Katsu and Mira Katsu so I asked the server and she mentioned it was their signature and it's what they're know for since it was a darker cut of the pork. My friend and I came here before closing and they didn't make us feel rushed. My second time here was with a party of 4 and it was pretty busy on a Sunday night. We waited outside and shout out to one of the staff his hospitality for turning on their patio heater for us! This time I came in the evening and the staff told us they were out of chicken skin, but he recommended these mini fried tofus that weren't on the menu and I have to say, it was good, but we weren't craving it as much as the chicken skin. I did have to wait nearly 10 minutes for my food to come out while my friends were almost done eating. It was a disappointment to find out that the party that sat next to us minutes after we sat, were able to order chicken skin. At this point I felt like they were being selective, but that's just how I felt. They could have informed us that it's back on the menu. We came here on a weekday evening and I was surprised at the seating. There were multiple two-seat tables open and they gave us one in the middle of restaurant where everyone walks past you. So I immediately asked for another table near the window because of less traffic. I found the staff member very rude, saying that we could either sit there or the bar. So we sat there and withstood all of this extra traffic and because the place is tight, people's arms and bags were hitting our table. The katsu curries were delicious, and the portions were quite large as well. My family of 4 tried this spot on a Thursday night and there was a bit of a wait ~20 min. It's an open kitchen concept so it's a smaller seating area with maybe 8 counter seats and 10 tables max? When our table was almost ready, they had us come inside and look over the menu/order first. Once seated, it rook about 15 minutes for our food to be ready and we dug in! We tried the - HIRE KATSU SET: The hire katsu is tender despite being thickly cut, and comes with sauce and pickles. However, the pork definitely could've used more flavor (rather than relying on the dipping sauces). - CHICKEN KATSU CURRY: solid dish - TONKATSU DON: The don had thick cuts of pork but with more of a bite/chew to it. The pork was also a bit bland and while the rice was doused with a sweet-savory broth, there just wasn't enough balance. We were a party of 2 and came early for dinner for their soft opening. We live close by and had been eyeing this place since the signage was put up. We were seated immediately and they let us know they added takoyaki as a new appetizer so we ordered that along with an order of ebi curry katsu and chicken curry katsu. When the takoyaki came out, the waiter placed it on our table but didn't bring out any small plates for us to eat them off of. Ok fine, I asked him to bring us a couple of small plates. He proceeded to ask the head chef/manager/ owner? but the response made us really uncomfortable. He kept grilling the waiter on WHY we wanted these plates. Why make such a big deal and so loudly where we could hear? You would think I was asking him for a kidney with his attitude... WTF. Anytime I've eaten out and had appetizers, the staff always gives you small plates to eat off of. Am I suppose to shove a whole takoyaki in my mouth? What if I picked it up with my chopsticks and it falls onto the table? That's why I like to eat OVER a plate. Anyways, after that exchange, waiter brings me one plate. Fine, I proceed to take a bite and the middle of the takoyaki is ice cold. Let waiter know, small apologies, said they would remake. Our entrees come out and we were pretty underwhelmed with the whole experience. Husband didn't care for the food, I thought it was a solid 3. They bring out the replacements takoyaki and it looked almost burnt. By then, we were pretty much done with the whole experience. Packed up the leftovers and left without a single apology from management. Should I chalk this up to the newness? Nah I don't care for the attitude and abrasiveness in front of guests. There aren't many Katsu places that I know of in the bay so this restaurant is definitely popular. We came as a party of 6 around 5:55PM and got seated around 7:10PM and served around 7:25PM. It's a relatively smaller restaurant that could fit probably about 30-40 people total so there is always people waiting for a table outside. I got the Tonkatsu set $18 instead of the Tonkatsu curry because I wanted cabbage as a side. We also got a side of curry to share between 3 people and it was the perfect amount just to try and share. The tonkatsu was moist, and it was served on a wire rack but some pieces of the katsu were soggy on the bottom despite being placed on the with rack. But it was still very tasty regardless. Staff were attentive and friendly, happy to answer any questions we had Menu is pretty simple - mainly offers dry / curry katsu sets. Meat quality was impressive and breading was nice and crumbly with a decent crunch. Seasoning was on the light side but that's okay with me because I love meat flavor by itself. Also comes with katsu sauce, pickles, and a spicy pepper sauce to enhance flavor. hire katsu set (pork tenderloin) meat was JUICY but not overwhelmingly fatty! The chunk was really thickkkkk so it doesn't dry out / overcook as easily. More of like a trade off between crunch vs juice. Went during their soft opening and it was pretty packed! The restaurant isn't super large but has a decent amount of seating. Once sat, we promptly ordered our food and it came out faster than I expected! For appetizer, we ordered the takoyaki. Best takoyaki I've had in forever. I honestly would come back just for this dish. For entree, I ordered the Hire Katsu. The portion was larger than I expected. I only was able to eat half then got the rest to go. I liked that they offered a spicy and normal katsu sauce too. Both were pretty good, but I definitely preferred the regular katsu sauce. (The katsu reheats nicely in the air fryer!) read more
