You're really just paying for the ambiance. The food wasn't memorable and not worth the high price point in my opinion. I went specifically because I was offered a discount through the kind app and it was my birthday, so i decided to treat myself to their lunch during my work day. HIT AND MISS DISHES I used to go to the Katsuya in Studio City years ago, so I was excited when a branch opened on this side of the hill. We had an impromptu birthday celebration one weekday after work. When we popped by the restaurant in the late afternoon, we were immediately able to make a reservation for that night. Dinner doesn't start until 5PM, so we wandered around Westfield Century City Mall for awhile. When we returned a little after 5PM, we were escorted to the Garden Bar. Since we were in the middle of a heat wave, and this is a roofless enclosure, it was too staggeringly hot to enjoy. Ten minutes later we were led into the cool, air conditioned dining room. While I perused the menu, my companion immediately noticed that the shōyuzara was dirty. Turns out, mine was too. We asked our server to replace them, which she did. For a Warm Beginning, we ordered Crispy Brussels Sprouts ($17), which were fantastic. The Balsamic soy, toasted almonds, and bonito flakes added an addictive flavor to our heaping plate of veggies. We wanted to try a Specialty Roll, so we opted for the underwhelming Katsuya ($25). This tasted like a wrap from a grocery store. I could see the tuna, hamachi, salmon, scallop, and crab, but I what I mainly tasted was the cucumber. Next time, we'll skip this. We were also eager to eat one of Kasuya's Signatures. The Baked Crab Hand Rolls (2 pieces for $21) were phenomenal! Katsuya's dynamite baked snow crab was wrapped in soy paper and wonderfully warm. We had to cut our two pieces apart. Too bad I didn't order a full dish for myself. This was my favorite! For our main course, my partner selected the Branzino ($35), which she liked. I thought the Shiso Wasabi Chimichurri over powered it, so I just had a bite. I chose the Yuzu Kosho King Salmon ($34) with a wafu sauce and crispy salmon skin salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The veggies were colorful, but practically tasteless. Good thing we also had a Japanese Sweet Potato ($9) with flavorful chive citrus butter. It was amazing! Despite these critiques, we devoured everything. When the bill came, I neglected to study it. At home, I noticed a 5% wellness fee was added, which we could have asked to have removed if I had paid more attention. Prices are high enough here, so I found this addition absurd, especially since I had tipped well. The space here is lovely, the presentation of the food is pretty, but heed your friends' advice. Only order what they recommend, unless you don't mind being disappointed. The meaning of "Katsuya" is lively, and as it got later this place certainly was. read more

The light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, which are industrial and huge, and really add to the ambience. Seating areas include a sushi bar, a regular bar, and tables. We sat at the bar and the bartender who waited on us was very nice and made a mean old fashioned. We ended up trying a Katsuya Roll and it was fresh but the flavor was just ok. Beautiful location in Century City mall that took over one of the marquee locations in the area. You walk into a completely zen and modern space with very friendly and helpful staff. We walked in without a reservation at about 5:30 on a Sunday and were able to grab a spot at the bar but by the time we left it was packed! We ordered several items - katsuya is known for their tuna crispy rice but we tried the salmon crispy which was good but I think I like the tuna better. We also ordered the cucumber salad which was refreshing. The star of the night though was the miso cod with nicely grilled broccolini. Really nicely prepared and tasty. Finally made it to their new location in Century City. I give this place a 3 1/2 stars at best, we were literally the first customers and the whole restaurant. The restaurant is huge! Nothing like what Katsuya used to be like. But the prices have definitely gone up, but the service and quality of food has really gone down. They do also charge a lovely "wellness of extra 5%" to the Bill to help offset the servers or I should say the employees medical benefit benefits. Hate this! But we still left 20% so essentially you're leaving 25% on a hefty bill. With such a huge restaurant organization, this should be their responsibilities go take care of their employees and not the customers. Will be our last time I will be going there. Memorable dishes from my last visit: Katsuya roll, Smoked Salmon roll (favorite), rock shrimp. The branzino wasn't bad, but it is definitely small. I liked that they cut it up into pieces to make sharing easier. If you're planning on getting this and only this, I'd highly suggest you order more stuff or you'll leave hungry. We tried a couple grey goose and Vesper martinis, also blistered shishito peppers to snack on. Our bartender was so accommodating that he pulled Grey Goose vodka out for us. I sit in their nice dining area wondering how the food can be sad every time. Everything is so unimpressive. Their ingredients are unimpressive (imitation crab excuse me?). Their flavors are unimpressive (very burnt Brussels sprouts every time, very salty short ribs every time, very bland cod every time). The price is just absurd for what they serve (and the automatic 5% fee for what? I don't know but it's there). If you want seafood, go to Javier's - at least they seem to serve some quality food. This new Katsuya restaurant is located inside of the century city mall. It's a beautiful, open, and well-lit space. Our server was very kind to us, along with all other staff members. With this aside, there were a few issues with our experience. For starters, we were told to walk ourselves to the bar by the hostess, which we didn't mind doing, except for when we got to the bar a man in a suit (I'm assuming a manager) was confused as to why we were sitting down and didn't have much sympathy for when we explained we were instructed to do so. The actual pacing of the meal was inconsistent. All of our appetizers came out very quickly but then the main dishes took much longer. There was a 15 minute gap in between my sister's entree and mine. We were comped with a free dessert, which was nice. We visited Katsuya for lunch on Saturday and walked in without a reservation. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. According to our server, the restaurant had only been open for about three weeks. I really loved the open layout and high ceilings, featuring huge bell-style ceiling lights and a stylish bar. The atmosphere was very relaxed and chill. The food exceeded my expectations. I tried the Power Lunch Prix Fixe ($38), which includes miso soup and a choice of one appetizer and one main course. For the appetizer, I picked the Yellowtail Jalapeño, which was fresh and flavorful. The Miso Black Cod as the main was delicious and perfectly cooked! The Wagyu New York 10oz ($56) was also amazing--tender and packed with flavor. The Katsuya Roll ($25) was good, and the Spicy Edamame ($11) was full of flavor. For dessert, we ordered The Orange ($16)--fantastic in both presentation and taste! A must-try. The Kakigōri ($16) was also good. The service was great! Our server was very friendly and attentive. The only downside was that the air conditioning didn't feel very cool--we're not sure why. For some reason, I ended up on the Westfield Century City email list so when I read that Casa Dani/Katsuya finally opened in the previous Rock Sugar space, I was looking forward to checking them out. Visible from Santa Monica Blvd., the entrance is directly across from Javier's. You're welcomed by a host/hostess, and then guided to either Katsuya or hook a left to Casa Dani. Due to the time that I arrived, only the Garden Bar was open for business while in between lunch and dinner hours. There is no happy hour at this time, but they do have limited offerings on small plates. I chose the wrong day to visit though due to it being the hottest day that we've had in a while, and once you look up, you realize the Garden Bar area is an open-air space. The bar itself was very hot to the touch, and I felt bad for the bartender who was out there in long sleeves and a vest. Thankfully the sun wasn't beaming directly at the bar (anymore), but it sure felt like it. Restrooms were through the doors to the left, and are unisex. Luis at the bar was great! He was very informative with all of my questions and if he didn't know, he found out from someone else. The only thing I wanted on that limited menu was crispy rice but with avocado, but only the spicy tuna was listed. It didn't hurt to ask, and this substitution was no issue. Compared to other places where I've had this item, the four pieces were tiny. Avocado slices were fresh, and to be honest, I've had better rice cakes elsewhere. However, it was still enjoyable and I finished this off within minutes. Presented with my check, they do the 5% wellness surcharge which can be removed, and he was happy to do so. This was a first for Century City mall but this restaurant happens to be under the sbe company which most likely explains why. Explored Casa Dani since they were opened by the time I left and it was A LOT cooler since they're located indoors. Looked nice in here, so I look forward to trying them as well. On a whim craving sushi my husband and I decided to check out the new katsuya in the century city mall. I mistakingly made a reservation at the Brentwood location. Upon arrival they didn't have my reservation in the system but they were nice enough to squeeze us in on a busy Friday night.. I've been waiting for the opening of this location for what seems like years. And boy is this restaurant impressive and worth the wait. The interior is absolutely stunning. Gorgeous high ceilings, beautiful finishes, stunning outdoor patio and a beautiful sushi bar. I've been to all the other katsuya locations. From the fanciest to the hole in the wall casual spots. My expectations were low, but I was extremely impressed by this new katsuya. The menu was super creative and unique. They had several new menu items, but still kept their og signature dishes. We decided to be adventurous and try some new items. I loved the wagyu crispy rice and the wagyu tataki. The meat was buttery and literally melts in your mouth. And you can't go wrong with the katsuya signatures, yellowtail jalapeño, albacore sashimi with crispy onions, the spicy tuna cut roll with shrimp tempura. But the real stand out of the night, even more than the food, was the outstanding service by our server Alex. I've never seen someone so happy to be at work. Yes! Stopped off here while when we picked our son at school (small little college down the street ). Went in to grab some lunch, we were looking for something fresh and not too heavy. Unfortunately, it took us a little bit to get through the maze of the parking structure and mall (all the shiny objects in the windows don't help) to get to the restaurant. Made it in and were right away greeted by the hostesses. They asked if we had reservations, but turns out not necessary here... We grabbed a seat at the sushi bar. There were 3 of us and seating worked out fine. This place is pretty open and "airy" was comfortable weather for a CA 70-ish degree day. Seemed like a cool go to spot for local business people grabbing lunch (and a few people trying to look important (I'm just having fun, breath )... Any way grabbed a couple lunch sushi platters and a stir fried rice... was exactly what we were looking for...seemed fresh and light. Unfortunately, no cocktails (were tempted), had a busy rest of the day. I would recommend eating here, and probably even hanging if you have more than a lunch window to chill. If you can get it, the food is imaginative and delicious. I highly recommend the Rock and Roll, Rock shrimp and spicy tuna roll. Stay away from the overpriced drinks. The Jasmine Garden cocktail was flavorless and wildly overpriced at $16 for a glass of fizzy water. The actual alcoholic beverages cost less. The service was indifferent at best. Our server never checked in with us, and regularly avoided our table of 2, lavishing his attention on the better-populated 5-tops near us. The restaurant was not even half full, and there were several servers. The kitchen/server forgot about our order of Rock and Roll, delivering entire meals to diners who came in well after us. After FOUR reminders, we received it. No effort at apology was made by the restaurant, such as a dessert or complimentary drink, or even "I'm sorry." Finally made it to Katsuya in Century City. I LOVE the ambiance here, especially the high ceilings. We had their lychee martinis (one of the best I've ever had) their rock shrimp (I thought this was ok) their Karai roll (also a favorite) the blue fin (SO good) and the branzino which was cooked in a very different way compared to other places. Of course I can't forget the salty edamame starter. Food was great, the service was lovely, and deff looking forward to being back! Cheers! read more
