This place is on Yonge street near Centrepoint mall. There are a few parking spots. We got lucky and got the last spot. The place is bigger than I thought. Lots of seats, all booths which is nice. Lots of deals also on the walls for frontline staff like police, firefighters (except nurses, they're "not frontline" enough). They have 13% off for cash pay, so tax free. Service is a bit slow here but it's tolerable. The waitresses are really nice. The Katsuya was honestly SO DELICIOUS! The breading is light and the right crisp. The chicken was also tender, not bad at all. They gave us the wrong wings instead of what we ordered which was the bulgogi wings (forgot to take a pic). We ate one of the wings and the server came back to let us know and took it back. They apologized, brought the right wings, took a while so they said immediately that it's on the house. Very kind of them. One of the wings though wasn't cooked to be honestly... maybe they rushed it? We didn't tell them or take it back, we weren't paying for it. I had food poisoning the night of, felt like vomiting. Regardless I would come back here honestly because the katsuya is just so good. Would like to try other ones or maybe a pizza.

I used to go to Katsuya every month, but because they closed in Markham, I haven't been able to go. But when I learned that the north York location had free parking, I went immediately. The restaurant is large and roomy with many available booths. All the tables were kept spotless, and the waiter was always ready to assist. In this Katsuya, it was combined with Pizza Mary, giving plenty of options. But this day I ordered the pork loin Cheese Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu, as well as the Cheese Crab Croquette, which was my non negotiable for myself as it was my favourite. Prior to our meals, we were given the complimentary soup. And it hit the put as always. The cheese crab croquette came out first and they were as good as I remember, maybe even better as they put lots of sauce on the top. When the katsu came out, I was a little surprise to see that it was much smaller I remember, with much less sauce. In terms of the flavour it reminded me of their carbonara udon which I enjoyed. Overall, regardless of the size, it was plenty and satisfying.
The portion is huge! The restuarant has a lot of tables but the location parking is quite limited. Based on the two dishes we tried (original katsu and sweet chili katsu), the sweet chili katsu has a good flavour profile with a bit of kick. I do wish they gave more sauce, but they do charge extra if you would like more. The original katsu was alright.
Came for their summer time promo with cold noodles. Nice and refreshing, the katsu is smaller than their regular items paired with rice, but portion was still decent.
Take out the fish katsu and after air frying it, it still tastes good. My best sauce is still red carbonara though
Came here for their 10 year celebration promotion for only limited for a time( check their IG). Admitted my first time here. No lines got there at opening. Staff were friendly. 4 different katsu to try for this promo. Original, Japanese, curry and sweet chili. Came with small bowl of soup and our katsu came quickly. The sesame in a mortar and pestle nice touch but doesn't add much to the food on the original flavor katsu as it gets stuck in the bowl. All katsu came with rice and cabbage and small yellow radish. The katsu was a large portion crispy light the pork was tender could cut with chop sticks ( though I'd prefer an actual knife to cut the bigger pieces). The sauces were nice curry tasted like golden curry cubes, original had a sweeter slight tomato taste to it was very good and the Japanese style all crispy no sauce on top instead had a plum sauce on side. I did find the sauces were good and would prefer it on the side as it would make the katsu soggy. I would recommend and come back to try other items on their menu. Outside there is a small parking area in front of the store fully parked. Large waiting area with some seating. The table closest to front is the windy cold seat as there are no double doors and wind gets pulled in. Booths seat by the window other table and chairs seats. Open kitchen view can see the staff cooking from a far. They also have an "incentive" where if you give 5 star review you can get a free drink this was advertised on the table. This means there could be bias reviews on their Google reviews. Just an FYI.

Decent katsu chain restaurant -- the pork katsu was flaky and crispy, and had good flavor. Definitely not the best but great portions and value. Waitstaff kept on bringing us free appetizers (from cancelled delivery orders?), which was very nice. The kids enjoyed munching on pizza. A casual restaurant experience. Parking is extremely limited, but you can park on the side streets in the residential area.
I originally wanted to come here for my birthday weekend, but unfortunately they do not take reservations on weekends. So I ended up coming here with friends on a Tuesday. The restaurant was pretty empty a 6PM, but the service was quick and efficient. The best thing about the North York location is that you get access to both the Katsuya and Pizza Maru menus in one location. We ordered the following: The Pizza Maru Seafood Bay 16" pizza: This pizza was huge! It had a sweet ranch sauce, cheese. crab meat, shrimp, ham, pineapple, onions, mushroom, bell peppers, corn and sriracha mayo. Overall it was an OK fusion pizza. It was a bit different than what I'm used to since it was sweeter than we thought. 3/5 The Katsuya pork loin Katsu: This is their signature dish, and never a disappointment. The pork was tender and juicy, and was deep fried to absolute perfection! It came with a sesame sauce coleslaw and a side of rice. The Worcestershire sauce was slightly sweet and fruity, which perfectly complements the katsu. All in all, a great experience! 5/5 Highly recommend! The Boneless Chicken Karaage: This was a bit of a disappointment. For the same price as the katsu, it didn't come with any sides and the portion was quite small (1 lb). It was fried in a different batter than the katsu, and was not really crispy. The waiter also forgot to bring the sauce, twice. So we were eating it dry at first. I think that the Karaage is better at other places. I would not order this again. 1/5.
Came here to have the Mala Promo again Nov 18-21! Delicious Carbonara mala pork katsu! My only complain is the rice is tiny! I ended up getting a refill and having my friends review also! The place wasn't that busy, but they did have lots of takeout of order!
I've been a loyal customer to Katsuya and I love their different variations of Katsu as well as the broad range of flavour profiles alongside the sauces. I went in today to grab a special platter for myself to try and I've got to say that I'm very much impressed. The service is an added bonus as the establishment has friendly and hospitable staff that will accommodate to your allergies and try to make your experience the best way they possibly can. Last but not least, most places have loud background music, but this place gets it right with a soft backdrop without it being too overbearing This set included: Japanese Pork Loin Katsu + Deep Fried Shrimp (x2), and a Small Udon + Side Dish
Highly recommended - I ordered the Original Katsu - Loin set and it was so crispy and it tasted so good! The portion is kinda big as well. They don't have a lot of options in the menu and the environment and service is okay, more look like a fast food restaurant.
Came here today for dinner. Small little place with limited parking (not to worry, you can park in the neighborhood for free). You come in and put your name on the list. Came in around 715 for dinner, 3 tables in front of us and wait was not long, about 10 minutes. Food is worth the wait. They give you a miso soup which they do offer refills if you like which is nice. Also we got some pickled jalapeno and some kind of shoots (possibly artichoke). This was a little to pungent for my taste buds. As a starter we ordered the tartar shrimp, not to big but was tasty. Fresh fried battered shrimp with a nice tartar sauce. You get 5 shrimp and lots of cabbage for $6.50. the main is what you come here for. I had the cheese Katsu pork carbonara. This was what made the wait worth it and why people usually line up here. Freshly fried cutlet with the cheese baked in smothered with the cream sauce filled with squid brocolli and other goodies. Comes with rice and more cabbage. It is garnished with a nicely pickled turnip and some pickled ginger. The flavours from this dish was really good and even though the portion is huge I finished my plate. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other dishes at this establishment. read more
I can't believe it took us so long to try Katsuya (Yonge location). Parking - only a few spots are available in front of the restaurant with alternate parking on side streets Wait times - we arrived just a few minutes after they opened on a weekend, so there were no line ups Décor - very simple and modern with wood tables and seats - we found the seats to be a bit uncomfortable Staff - efficient and friendly Food - portions are quite generous and they offer complimentary refills of rice, soup and coleslaw We ordered the Curry Chicken Katsu ($17.50) and Garlic Chili Chicken Katsu ($17.75) so we could try different sauces. The cutlets were crispy but not greasy. They're very generous with the sauces, and I'm glad it's served slightly off to the side; otherwise, the crispy chicken cutlets would be a soggy mess. I found the curry sauce quite bland and salty, and ended up dipping the rest of my cutlet on my husband's order, the garlic chili sauce, which is probably our favorite of the two. There are a ton of garlic slivers, and needless to say, while tasty, the garlic will stay with you for a while ...lol We both ordered refills of the soup, rice and coleslaw, so despite the pricey entrees, we left very full. Just a side note (no pun intended), the coleslaw is very light, not heavy like the mayo version. There is a location in Scarborough, so we'll have to try that one next. read more
Wow, this is really good Katsu! The Katsu is perfectly crispy and juicy, the rice done perfectly, and the accompanying cabbage slaws is refreshing. My recommendation is the chicken Katsu, get sauce on the side if you want your Katsu to stay crispy. read more

First time at this location, it's set up kind of like an elevated cafeteria. We came in during their anniversary and got a great deal. Katsuya is always pretty consistent, my favourite is their original sauce. You get a big portion as well as refillable rice and soup, only one refill each although sometimes they'll just give more. They don't have miso soup right now so they're giving an udon soup. It was my first time trying the takoyaki and I thought it was pretty good. read more
I love Katsuya!!! I've been to this location multiple times and it's always so good. We got takeout this time around due to COVID. The red carbonara sauce is a little spicy, with a thick creamy seafood (it has shrimp pieces) base that goes so well with the katsu. The curry one is also delicious, I love a good staple Japanese curry and katsu. I find the katsu is always crunchy and delicious as well. I really love the cabbage too, the dressing is delicious! I miss eating in for the refillable miso soup, cabbage, and rice but takeout offers 30% off cash orders (atm, idk for how long) which is such a great deal! Can't wait to try their other sauces and sides! read more

Tiny lil katsu restaurant located at Yonge-Steeles ish. They serve mainly katsu dishes with some other fried appetizers. For two people, we ordered the Original Pork Tender Katsu and Chicken Kaarage to share. This was def enough food for 2 people. Original Pork Tender Katsu - Tonkatsu that comes with their own special sauce which basically is like a slightly sweet, tomatoey gravy. Personally, not really a fan of the sauce. Their panko coating is very light and not heavy at all. The meat itself is very tender and not over-done. But, it could have used a bit more seasoning/salt before the fry. Curry Chicken Thigh Kaarage - Supposedly marinated in curry but you really cannot taste it at all LOL. It's served with some wasabi mayo on the plate. Served super fresh out the fryer! Despite it being served hot and fresh, somehow the coating could have been crispier as it was soggy-ish in some parts. It was super moist though horrayyyy! (Overall, I think I like Mr. Tonkatsu more.) The service was aiight - the waitress was friendly. In terms of parking, there's literally just 3 spots in front of this restaurant LOL. If you come during a weekday for lunch, this is probs no problemo but during the dinner rush it could be iffy. Decent katsu location option at Yonge & Steeles! But the teeny parking space and average food doesn't really make me want to return. read more
Ahhh this was the first location I went to check out with a few friends when we entered phase 3 of Covid reopening for restaurants. There were 5 of us. We dropped by around 6pm it wasn't so busy we were seated about 5 mins. We weren't given our menu or water or anything for about 6-10 mins. But they did serve the other people who came after us first ... we were a mix racial group and the other were all asian... not sure if that was the case but felt like it. After waiting and waiting we finally had someone come Serve us. While dining on the patio for the evening the service got a bit better ? But it was quite hard to get the server attention when we wanted something. Service 3/5 On to the food review. 5/5 the food we ordered were amazingly yummy it came out fresh and hot. We all ordered some kind of katsu. Each plate came with rice, cabbage and miso soup. Cabbage and miso soup is bottomless if you order the combo katsu and rice you can get a one time refill. The portion of the katsu if quite large so with the small amount of rice it was already filling. We were quite full as we all got 3 rounds of soup and cabbage and our server our rice. Katsu was very crispy, hot and delish. My bf also bought take out. Even the take out the katsu is still kept crispy and delicious after putting it in the oven to heat up again. Overall, we would return here as the food is phenomenal but I hope service is better next time. :) Although we ate out in the patio, servers /employees all wore masks and followed proper protocols for Heath and safety. I don't quite get all the hype with Katsuya. It's good but not quite outstanding. We got: - Fried oysters: Pretty good batter-to-oyster ratio, though oysters weren't as plump/juicy as we hoped they'd be. - Original katsu: The pork tender lived up to its name as you could really taste how tender the meat was. The sauce though was a bit bland and had a weird/unique taste (kinda like a crisp between curry gravy and tomato). The side veggies were nondescript. - Teri mayo katsu with double cheese: The pork loin wasn't as tender, the teri mayo sauce was good but there wasn't enough, and there wasn't as much cheese as I thought there would be (though the mix of cream cheese and mozzarella was good). Overall, not a must-try for me, especially since there are other katsu places that are just as good and much more convenient to get to. read more

Came here and ordered takeout. There is more parking at the back of the building from patricia. Ordered garlic chili chicken katsu with an extra pork loin katsu and the crabmeat cheese croquette. Very delicious and big portions. 1 katsu can definitely be shared with another person. I really enjoyed the croquettes, tasted light and crispy. Between chicken or pork katsu, i like the taste of chicken more. The chili sauce was like a light creamy tomato sauce. Nice tang, though maybe I didnt enjoy the garlic chips that much. They currently have 10% off w pick up orders with additional 5% if you pay in cash. My order came to $32 after tax and discount. As well, on the door front noticed they are having a special promotion on bobooya menu items for a limited time. I may try this next time. read more
WOOO DOGGIES! I don't normally eat meat anymore, but holyy, this place makes me want to again. (Food:) CARBONARA CHEESE KATSU is soo good! They somehow put a layer of cheese in between the pork and the breaded/deep fried part, and then coated the whole thing in a seafood creamy carbonara sauce. Honestly the portions that they give here are amazinggg. The cut of pork is larger than my fist. They definitely do not skimp here. Added to the side is also a touch of raw cabbage, just to keep the dish a bit more balanced. (Price:) CARBONARA CHEESE KATSU: $19.75 (Ambience:) I like the feel of this place, it's rustic and cozy. (Service:) Great! (Comparable:) There's no real comparable place! The best in Toronto for Katsu by far! (Overall:) Great portions, great tasting! I can see why this place is so popular. The pork loin is juicy and the exterior is nice and crunchy. There's a fair portion for ~$15 worth of food. The sets come with unlimited refills of: sushi rice, miso soup, salad (cabbage slaw with some asian sesame dressing aka. incorporating sesame oil + soy sauce probably) Curry pork loin katsu set DELICIOUS! The curry is so flavourful and isn't super oily. *peanut free* Original pork loin katsu set Nice tomato-ey flavour and has a very unique taste that I've never tried at any other place before! Pretty good! I would definitely recommend this to those who aren't allergic to peanuts. HUGE plus for complimentary parking right outside the restaurant. Especially since the general Yonge and Finch areadoesn't accommodate that on weekdays. read more
Ok, it took soooo long for us to get in and that is my only gripe. We received free pop when we were finally seated. Lady who served us was really nice. Food was very filling and just so delicious. I was starving at this point so I practically inhaled my dinner. I wish I could have had the carbonara dish. Sad that I cant have fresh cream. My friends who got it kept moaning with every bite coz it was so good. Jealous! Maybe gonna have it to go. ;) would I go back? Not for a while. Would I get take out? Absolutely! Worth it! Deep Fried Goodness+Happy Waitress with Smiley Faces+Huge Piece of Pork = Super Happy Me Spicy Cheese Pork Tonkatsu. I love spicy so that's the way to go. If you want to have a cheese pull, maybe a double cheese one would be better for the perfect photo? The breading just so crispy and the pork juicy and tender. I would have at the whole thing by myself but it is also good to share with your friend. There are so many different sauce option so I would be trying something different every time. read more

This cute hidden Japanese restaurant is along Yonge st (right after Steeles ave). There's minimal parking spots in the lot, but room to park into the neighbourhood! They don't take reservations so first come first serve! I went on a Friday night around 7 which was perfect because right after there was a rush of people. The seats are wooden stools, with a combination of high top and low top tables. I really liked the overall ambiance of the restaurant because it felt very authentic and the staff always greets you when you walk in!! As for the food... Come here with an appetite!!! The portions are large. The prices vary between pork and chicken, oh and if you want cheese in it! I got the pork tender Terri Mayo Pork Tender Katsu w/o cheese and shared an appetizer of Crab Croquettes as everyone recommends. Crab croquette (4/5): Large portions, really taste the crab, stuffed with cheesed, not too crunchy - very flavourful! Terri Mayo Pork Tender Katsu (4/5): You definitely get your required protein servings for the day with this one. Lots of flavour, Pork Tender crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The sauce drizzled on top complements the texture. (You can ask for extra sauce on the side). The salad that came with it was different, not too sure how to explain it but it was white and yummy.. pretty good overall! If I were to come back I may try something with stuffed cheese! read more

Last time I was at this location I was on a blind date my friend dragged me on in 2018 hahaha, Since then I've learnt that their Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu is my favourite go to dish so I always order it. It wasn't until recently I went back to this location again so I decided to completely change it up and got their newer menu item, their Honeycomb Pork Loin Katsu ($18.50) as well as their Crab Cheese croquette ($5.75/3pc or $8.50/5pc) which my friend has been telling me to try for some time now. Let's start with the crab cheese croquettes! The portion size was pretty good, nice for sharing between two people (we got the 5 pc). The cheese was really stringy and melty which made for some satisfying cheese pulls, I just wish there was more crab! But overall they did use real crab pieces and the sauce was really yummy. I would not recommending ordering this with Carbonara Katsu as it could get really heavy with all the cream sauce. Which brings me to the next menu item, the Honey comb Katsu which I opted for instead of my usual which was topped with Mayo, Mustard and Korean sweet and sour sauce. The sauce to Katsu ratio was really good and paired nicely with rice but wasn't super mind blowing. Since the portions at Katsuya are huge I usually get one Katsu and two bowls of rice to split with another person. The meal also comes with soup and sides of cabbage, ginger and pickled cabbage. Overall still a really nice meal (3.5/5)! I still have a love for their Carbonara Katsu though (5/5) for me hahah but next I think I want to try the karaage which i've heard good things about, Red Carbonara Katsu, Cheese Katsu or their Udon with shrimp tempura... This was the last stop on our food crawl so sharing an entree seemed like a good idea. We'd had some good food so far! The menu had many choices, mostly variations of breaded and deep fried pieces of meat and/or cheese. We chose a spicy pork loin katsu with cheese. After some complimentary miso soup, we got our order, a huge piece of breaded goodness, served with tomato sauce, rice, and a slaw. The meat was perfectly cooked and amazingly tender, lots of flavour. The sauce was a good match, not too spicy. I also enjoyed the slaw, albeit a bit understated. Cute small place with large portions of Katsu! Came here with a friend and got the original katsu which was recommended by the server. Didnt disappoint, not a huge fan of curry but the sauce it came with was on the creamy, sweeter side and tasted pretty good with the chicken katsu I got. The meal also comes with miso soup. I believe you can also get an extra complimentary rice bowl for free if you ask since there is definitely a difference in the meat to rice ratio. Pretty good, wasn't able to finish the whole meal since there was such a large portion of meat, and also comes with cabbage salad. All in all, was pretty impressed with this place and would come back to try other flavours of katsu they offer! read more

I had lunch here today with a couple of friends, arriving shortly before noon. The restaurant was empty, so we pretty much had a choice of tables. I'm not a fan of stools, so we took a lower table on the left side of the restaurant. Our server immediately brought over a bottle of water with cups, but couldn't be bothered to pour for us. No biggie. After browsing the menu, we decided to share a couple of appies and a selection of mains to share. We chose the udon carbonara, cheese & crab meat croquettes and 3 of the tonkastsu dishes: curry, white snow and traditional. I really loved how crispy the coating was on the croquettes as well as the pork. Very light taste, not greasy at all. The croquettes were super cheesy and creamy, with a nice crab flavour. But I think my favourite dish was the carbonara udon. I'd definitely order this again. read more

Overall food quality and service was great. However it's so hard to find a parking spot at this location. Unlimited serving of miso soup and cabbage salad 1 refill for steam rice Takoyaki - average. Nothing special Karrage thigh - juicy and yet crispy. Very flavourful and well seasoned. Spicy garlic tender - pork tenderloin was nicely seasoned. The batter needs to be more crunchy. Sauce were so sweet and fried garlic was so soft and a bit of greasy flavour. Carbonara - taste like Alfredo or cream of broccoli.. not recommended. read more

This time I made sure to sample two of their katsus with sauces so I wouldn't be eating just fried cutlet - don't want to be parched with a side of their salty miso soup Their curry tastes identical to Glico curry if you make it well - not sure if this is kudos to Glico or if it's dissing Katsuya... Homemade sauce is most likely tomato based/canned soup, like the sauce you would get on a Hong Kong style pork chop rice. Katsu itself is great!!! - thick piece of CRISPY tender pork which 100% will have you taking home a good 33% of the cutlet.
