This place is pretty reliable, and during the pandemic, they've been extra awesome. The delivery guy came with a mask and gloves on and set the bag down for me. Their food hits the spot when you have a craving for American Chinese. Sometimes their chow mein is a little salty, but the scallion pancakes are insanely good. We often get their orange chicken as well. The batter is actually crispy! The king Pao chicken is good but it's seriously seriously spicy. Just came back from Katy's in Oak Park. My family and I have been a few times over the years and finally decided we needed to review this amazing restaurant. This time we had their juicy steamed bao, Chengdu Dan Dan noodles, Cheng Du noodles, Seafood Soup, and Cumin Lamb. All fantastic and better than any other takeout we've had. This place is highly rated and for good reason. If it was possible to go beyond 5 stars I would. It's Chinese Cuisine at it's finest and with authentic dishes and great soups you can't get anywhere else. If you've been thinking about eating here and hesitating, then take the plunge. Oh, the service is also super nice and friendly too. They gave me warnings for spicy dishes and adjusted the heat level, while constantly checking in to make sure everything was perfect. Had to call them five more times, after they called drivers and never called me back they finally told me it was a technical glitch and no food was coming. I could reorder but would take 45 minutes. The food was incredible! A quiet, ambient atmosphere with high booth dividers created a private space to talk and enjoy our meal. The NEW management has done an incredible job-- this was not the same place I remembered. I tried the Chicken Noodle Soup, it was full of veggies, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and broth was so flavorful. My partner tried the General Tao's Chicken. The chili pepper sauce was just to his taste, full of flavor with a nice spicy kick! We were fortunate enough to have a very kind lady named Karen serve us this evening. The juicy steamed buns (Xiao long bao) seemed prepackaged and reheated. The skins were tough and chewy. There was very little broth to the dumplings. The host/server was disengaged. We had to go find her to request the black vinegar for the dumplings and we were the only customers in the shop. The chicken lettuce wraps were tasty enough. This was the first we visited in more than a year because the last time the service was similarly disengaged. Ordered General Tao's chicken and grandma fried rice every time. Ordered for the second time this week and still in love with it. Called at 1:30 pm and ready to pick up at 1:45. Excellent! Chicken is still crunchy when we get home. Right amount of sweet and spicy. Grandma fried rice is fried rice with famous Lao Gan Ma chili sauce. So good that we ate all of it. Always wanted to try out some of Katy's dumplings, and they did not disappoint! The entrees are family style of course and are great to share with or be the whole meal if eaten by itself and alone. Great variety and selection of chinese american dishes and fried pot stickers or steamed dumplings on the menu, and they even had a BOGO for some delicious items if ordered online. They also have boba smoothies too. The place inside is very clean and the decorations are nicely done as well. Great staff as the food came out faster than expected & attentive servers with courteous service. Had takeout from here as the locals were raving about new management and how great it is now. Prices is high for the amount of food. The food is decent. We had the sticky rice cake which was good. The beef chow fun was good. The fried rice was ok. The juicy steam buns are small and not worth it to us. This was so disappointing, service and food were awful. The decor is pretty. We had to ask the staff multiple times for extra napkins, chili oil, soy sauce, water, and finally went to the server's station to ask and even after that, it took over 5 minutes to get them, and the place was empty at 1pm on a weekday! We ordered potstickers and noodle soups. The potstickers were not properly cooked. They were deep fried in old oil, and soggy, and the filling was tasteless. I like the thicker dough at Katy's in Westmont, but these were awful, deep fried (not the way a potsticker should be cooked) and not fully cooked. Since these were inedible, and we were hungry, we ordered some boiled ones. These, too, had little flavor and were served on a cold plate, so they congealed quickly. My soup wasn't hot when it arrived, the noodles were overcooked with no chew, the broth was made from ramen packets, was missing the main vegetable, and the pork strips were all gristle. The pickled cabbage in my friend's soup tasted good, but her soup took so long to come out that the rest of us were done. I tried one of each dumpling (of about two dozen, we only ate maybe 8 total, and only because we were hungry), ate half of the soup, didn't take anything home, and left pretty hungry still. I love the Westmont location and will go back even though it's a long way, but this one is off my list. Not sure what happened on that day, I hope it was that their usual cooks were absent, but not willing to try again. read more

We had an issue with Grubhub delivering the wrong order and we called Katy's and they sent their own driver out to fix it right away. Just wow! I have had my eye on this place and I'm so glad I finally was able to try it. We got the grandmas fried rice, chicken chow fun, pork dumplings and Szechwan hot wok. The dumplings were to die for, so fresh and delicious and the hot wok was amazing. The flavor was just yum and the right amount of spice. Can't wait to come back and try more on the menu! We came on the night of Oak Park Winterfest. They had been under renovation for awhile so was dying to try them- i had heard good things on Eater. Not sure if they are under new management or what, but the entire experience was chaos- no one was sure who our server was- they would deliver food but no plates or utensils. At one point I finally had to walk up to the serving station to try and get us some utensils- asked up front about plates and they said they were out and gave us paper towels for our dumplings instead- started serving all of our drinks out of styrofoam cups. I hope that isn't normal. The server apologized and gave us a free coke upon exit? Thing is, we don't drink coke and didn't ask for one. read more

I absolutely love Chinese food. I especially love dumplings and potstickers. Katy's Dumplings in Oak Park is, in my opinion, the best place to enjoy authentic Chinese dumplings and potstickers. I try to make it out to the Oak Park area to try Katy's Dumplings at least once a month. Whenever I go, I order so much food, because everything on the menu is fantastic. I have some go-to favorite dishes that are a must when I visit this restaurant. The pork with chives dumplings and the Chengdu dumplings are fantastic, especially with the spicy chili oil. The three chili chicken is fantastic with perfect amounts of spice. The orange chicken is always perfectly crispy with perfect hints of orange flavor. Katy's Dumplings also hand-makes all of their noodles for their noodle dishes. Their noodle dishes are so rich in flavor. My personal favorite is the Chengdu Dan Dan noodle. It is coated in a delicious spicy sauce and it is the best noodle dish that I have ever had. Another item that is a must-try is their fresh fruit smoothies. My personal favorite is the fresh pineapple. The flavor of the smoothie is so refreshing and really compliments all the salty and spicy foods you may have here. I love Katy's Dumplings, but of course, the restaurant is not perfect. Service here can sometimes be very spotty or rushed. Items sometimes are forgotten with orders and it may take some time to get my server's attention once my food is brought to the table. Also, the parking is very limited in the Oak park area. Be prepared to pay for parking in a lot that might not really be close to the restaurant. I really love this restaurant and I highly recommend it for its true authentic Chinese food. We came here based on Yelp reviews. I wish we had had as good of an experience as everyone else. Unfortunately we did not. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived because we came at an off hour - 3:30 on a Sunday. They had two people working but they barely spoke to us or checked on us. My husband and I had to keep getting up to refill our own waters and get silverware. The staff watched us but never offered to assist us or refill our drinks. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles, which I normally love but these had barely any meat on them. I spent most of the meal pushing around the noodles looking for little bits of pork. I almost asked if I could just get a second serving or protein to add to the dish but no one came to check on us. My husband ordered pad Thai which was good but again, he had to go to the counter and ask for limes. I ordered egg drop soup which they forgot to bring me until we were done with the meal. The portion size was huge and we both had plenty of left overs but we were so unimpressed with the meal that we left them, rather than take them home with us. I'd consider trying them again in case this was just a one-off, but it would take a lot to get me to go back there when other places give better service and food. read more

Simple cafe set up with view of Lake Street....great Chinese kitchen menu and nice service. Took my cousins visiting from Shanghai who enjoyed the lunch tremendously. Spicy Hunan and Szechuan spices...but staff is very good about explaining hot spices and sauces...that was for my benefit as Chinese-American. Recommend the small juicy steamed buns...shao lying lao...or soup dumplings. If spicy flavor is too much, recommend sipping milk or eating white rice during servings. Bon Appetit! read more

A nice surprise. The "juicy dumplings" were really good. Some food snobs might complain that the skin was a little thick and not super juicy but they were really tasty. The beef and broccoli and general Tao's chicken were both really good and the portions were huge. I would also recommend the chow Mein if you like thick noodles.
