Really really wanted to love this place. The owner is so sweet! We opted for the mango scone, coconut muffin and brownies. Unfortunately the scone wasn't what we expected. It seemed more on the bland side, not being able to taste any mango. It seemed somewhat of a savory scone. The coconut muffin was yummy! The brownies were a bit dry and bland similar to the scone. We walked by as we were grabbing lunch in the area and smelled the bread from outside so we made sure we stopped in on Day 2 of their reopening. We tried MacNut Shortbread and peanut butter cookies as well as a Sticky Bun and Taro roll. My son bought a sourdough loaf and breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was gone before I could get outside. We quartered the sticky bun and ended going back inside to but two more! Later, we toasted the sourdough bread and enjoyed it with a little butter! The MacNut shortbread cookies had just the right amount of crunch and sweetness. Macadamia nut bar was so good $8 but like a slice of pecan pie but with macadamia nuts so good, and very moist and all of the ingredients were something I could pronounce and find. VIP Treats and Sweets is a MUST visit for anyone seeking true from scratch baked goods with high quality ingredients. All items are clearly made with love and masterful baking. I appreciate the clean, simple ingredients and that it all tastes home cooked and not sickeningly sweet like treats served at other cafes. Please stop selling malasadas. Just please. Stopped here looking for a treat. Staff was friendly, the malasadas seem to be their pride and joy. They're nothing like what a malasada should be. Malasadas are good when hot but cool off to very dense balls. The cinnamon roll was a big miss, being neither sweet, cinnamony, nor light. The pumpkin crunch is a square with pumpkin pie filling and whipped cream on top, with a crust of macadamia nuts, ginger, and graham cracker crumbs (probably). If that sounds good to you, then you'll like it. We got a papaya soursop bar and it was absolutely delicious. Usually it's hard to taste papaya in homemade desserts, but I was very pleased with the way you can taste both fruits. This place serves more kindness and caring than sweets, breads, savories, and other consumables. Today is the five year anniversary and I write this review to celebrate that landmark achievement! The owner is a shrewd business woman who built her business from nothing. She does not overuse sugar, and her atmosphere is wholesome. It's a nice place to stop for a snack or a chat when she does not have customers standing outside her door. Local Spot!! A one woman show (that we saw) baking some yummy treats and breads. Hands down the best sticky bun I have had in a long time! The pineapple muffin was so fluffy and was perfumed with pineapple. She had warm breakfast sandwiches and masubi. Found the perfect place in Kauai for the freshest Malasadas. Since you can only find these in Hawaii (that I know of) I was so happy we chose VIP's. They make them to order so it takes appx 10 minutes from the time you put in an order but they are so worth the wait! You can also call in an order so that you still get the just baked taste upon pickup. We spent the wait talking to the owner who was super sweet. Decided to order half topped with cinnamon/sugar and the other half sugar only...both were delicious! Had to try them as we left but even stayed warm on the 15 minute drive back to our hotel. We just arrived in Kauai and explored some local shopping plazas. We walked past VIP Treats and Sweets and saw a sign in the window offering made-to-order malasadas (Portuguese donuts) every T, R and Saturday. Seeing we had just arrived and knew we would be up early with the time zone, we knew this was our spot. The owner is fabulous. She is so friendly and has had the store open for just over a year. She spoke to us while we waited for our malasadas to fry. She told us about the island and her business. The bakery offers so many wonderful treats. Macadamia nut sticky buns, cinnamon buns, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast bread pudding, fresh baked breads and rolls, including a sourdough that is made from the owners in house starter which she has fed since 2015. There is also ciabatta in load form, which you don't see that often. Let me tell you, the malasadas did not disappoint. The dough is delicious and the fry was perfect - not too oily. We will be here throughout the week and are excited to try more delicious goodies. read more

They were dense and like eating a hush puppy with sugar on it. If you want traditional malasadas, go somewhere else. Super disappointing. The chickens loved them though. read more

I love supporting local businesses when possible, and I'm happy to leave a review for this bakery! Every time I go in the owner is always baking her @$$ off and welcomes me with a smile. It looks like she bakes / makes a series of desserts and pastries but I've only managed to try the French rolls, rosemary roll (omg so good with pastrami and mayo jeeeeeez) and her ciabatta breakfast thingies, lol.
