I've been getting my haircut here since 2001, when I enlisted and my recruiter took me here for my first military haircut. I've been getting my haircut here for the past 11 years. Since I got out of the service in 2009, I've only been getting my haircut down to two inches all around, which they've done up until today. Today, they refused to cut my hair to that length, saying it wasn't "regular" enough. I really liked getting my haircut here for the past 11 years, when I was getting a military haircut, but if they refuse to cut my hair to the length I want to wear it now, this is the end of my patronage. In conclusion, if you want to get a "regular" haircut, they're good and inexpensive, but once you stray from their norm, it seems like you might be randomly turned down. read more

Hi, Kay-Mar has been around for decades. When I moved to Orange as a child my mom use to send me there all the time. Then I started going to a stylist. If you can wash your own hair and like a good old standard haircut, show up an hour before closing time (mornings seem to be best) and you will not be disappointed. If you need anything fancy, go someplace where it will cost you $25+. This place is a great bargain! read more

If you're looking to be pampered, have your butt kissed, engage in conversation about what the Kardashians are doing, or have special requests fulfilled, this is not the place for you. If, however, you're looking for a decent haircut for around $8 including tip, and be in and out in less than 30 minutes (if there's no wait, you'll be done in 10 minutes), this is definitely the place for you. Not a whole lot of "personality" cutting hair here but when I get a haircut, I'm not much on conversation either. So, this place is a good fit. Apparently some old man yells at my brother "we don't wash dirty hair here, go wash it at the gas station". His hair wasn't dirty, he had gel in it. After going to wash his hair at a gas station my brother comes back and tells the guy what hair cut he wants and the guy tells him to go to another barber shop and not to come back! Because of my brothers condition, if you told him to do anything, he will do it. He doesn't know better. How disgusting can you be?!? i have been going here for about 5 years now and it is the best deal in town. I only get a buzz cut, but it works for me. I have seen people come in and ask for a stylish cut and the barber advise the customer to take there butt to a salon. No joke. Don't ask for anything stylish or you just might get embarrassed in front of other customers. The funniest guy is the young guy at the end, he talks so fast you can't understand what he says, but he is kind hearted. Remember you cannot wait for your preferred barber, when it is your turn you have to go the barber that is open. I made the mistake of trying to let an older man go before me and the owner said it wasn't allowed. My bad, but that is how they keep the price down. read more

I recall this place not being one of my favorite barber shops but wanted to try them out again to see if it was as bad as folks say it is now. First there were no parking spaces in this small spot and I had to park in the back. The floor was quite hairy. When asked what I wanted, I replied basically a crew cut or a 5 all the way around. I got what I asked for and thought something was missing when I was told I was finished about 10 minutes later. Oh and I didn't get a mirror to check for approval. Only after I got home did I notice that the hair on my neck was not cut, guess I will have to have my wife trim it for me. Guess you get what you pay for, for $6 and change, left a $10 spot, which was half of what I normally pay for a premium haircut that takes about 1.5 hours(including wait time). So for a no frills quickie cheap haircut, this is it, just make sure they trim the back of your neck! read more

We had a really bad experience when I tried to take my three year old in for a haircut. It was not my sons first haircut and he usually is really good about haircuts, He went to a barber for the first time in Indiana and did great. So I took him into Kay Mar because his Dad {My husband} goes there all the time & Never had a problem. The "younger" blonde guy gave us a hard time, Asked me if My son was going "To sit still or move around a lot" I said I thought he would sit still just fine and the guy goes "Just because your THINK doesn't mean it's going to happen" So we chose to leave instead of get my sons hair cut. Which my son was crying because he was excited, but whatever no biggie, you don't like kids. It's cool. My husband continueed to go there because he really liked their hair cuts, Cheap & good. Until yesterday. My husband goes in and wants #3 on the sides #4 on the top, blended. Great. The guy has shakey hands and my husbands hair came out choppy and just.. bad. Looked long as it was when he went in and he hated it. So we ended up going to Target and purchasing clippers ourselves and I finished the cut. We're never going back, it's pretty sad when my husband would rather his wife {who is a dog groom, not a human one} cut his hair than a "professional". read more

Been coming here since 1986. Great place for a basic GI haircut. no frills. Barbers have come and gone but the idea has remained the same. If you're looking for your "fade" or something else special...go across the street to supercuts. Basically good ol' boys giving good ol' haircuts. read more

Have been going here for many years and have never had any problems. Every barber here has cut my hair at one time or another and every one did a fantastic job. Surprised to see so many on here with all their problems. If your hard to please, go to the shops that charge 30 to 40 dollars, at least then you have a right to whine. I have had the rest of the bad experiences here that others have too. They close early, as I'm pulling in and they give a half assed hair cut too. I don't have much for hair these days so it doesn't matter . Today I went back for the same punishment. Got home and it looks like I had a fight with a weed eater. So now because I went cheap I get to pay double to go somewhere else and have what little hair I have left fixed. It was cheap and I got what I paid for. These guys are great! Cheap, can't beat the price!! Quick in and out. They aren't gonna take any crap and they'll let you know that, if you can't take it go somewhere else. Yup good Hair cut from guy in center chair, Has cut mine last 4 times. Give 55% tip each time also. Today I went in, and his chair was empty and I was directed to another chair. I said no I'll wait. Then I was told no waiting. I said ok, I'll come back, and was told no you won't. You know what, your absolutely right, I won't go back. Pompous Ass's when you find some one to do it right, and they tell you, you can't that raises red flags. They will fit right in with Hillary. I have had my hair cut once before with them and the barber did a great job. My second visit was not so great. I sat down and explained the style I wanted and the barber informed me that they do not do "those hair cuts here". I saw the barber who cut my hair the last time and mentioned that he cut my hair the same way last time. He still wanted to argue so I said "Have a great day!" and walked out. My dad has dementia, he always wants things the same way, especially his hair cut. My dad has had a regular barber in ELA and I took him out of his normal, and asked him to try a different barber. We stepped in the shop and this cowboy guy (who might be the owner)was racist . this barber was so rude he told us to go back to the other barber . and his workers were Mexican . all I asked was , how much is it to make his lil boy line in his head he really wants it. I have been getting my hair cut here for over twenty years. Most of the barbers do a pretty good job if you want a standard (their standard not yours) haircut. The last chair has a couple of lousy barbers working there, but don't try to get another barber if your turn comes up when they are next to "serve." I tried it today and was told to get out and never come back by the guy in the last chair. He said his dad owns the place. I have been coming on his day off for about a year, but today he was working and, of course I was HIS customer. I've had problems with him in the past and decided today that he was not going to cut my hair. By the way, my haircut usually takes a maximum of five minutes (1 1/2 clipper), but this jerk can screw up a free lunch. So I was told to get out and stay out. He used some rather colorful language to tell me to buzz off. Fair enough. I didn't play by their rules and don't ever intend to. I found another shop about a mile away and got the haircut I was looking for without the caustic lip and lousy cut. read more

I just got a haircut today (11/23/12) at Kay Mar Barbers and I won't be returning there as a customer ever! The haircut I received was from an approximate 5'7" bearded employee there (manning the chair farthest from the door) who to say the least was extremely unprofessional and when asked refused to give me either his name or any means of contacting his manager, claiming to be the manager himself. When he started, he asked me what I wanted and I told him, 1" length, cut close around the ears, and cut sideburns even leaving them fairly long. He said, you want a standard haircut. I told him, I don't know what you call it, as long as it is what I described. When he started taking the sideburns way high, I pulled away, and he said, whoa that's how people lose an ear, I've done this for (I think it was) 23 years and I know what I am doing. Well, evidently not as much as he thinks he does. Then a couple of snips and he turned me to the mirror and said, well, what do you think. Since he had spent all of a minute or two and it really didn't look much different then when I came in, I asked if he could thin it a bit more at the sides. He said, I wouldn't recommend that. When I politely reminded him that I had asked for a 1" length he gruffly said, well that doesn't tell me much, you really don't know how to describe a proper haircut do you? With the trimmers buzzing at the side of my head I didn't answer (because I didn't want an intentional slip that would leave me looking like a sheered sheep for a month), and after a few rough passes, he whipped the cloth off of my lap and said, there, you're done. Being a visitor to the area, I have a barber at home who makes masterful work out of these same haircut descriptions, and doesn't charge much more than this shop does. The bad attitude and the rudeness displayed by this haughty employee, as well as his slipshod worksmanship merited this rating for a shop which might have received a much better rating if I had gotten one of the other hair stylists there, but, in taking a number and not getting a choice between the people who will cut your hair, I will never, ever return!!! His parting comments when I asked for his name and the name of his manager, were what are you going to do arrest me? And what does he want for a $5 haircut (actually $6.25), What I wanted was a good haircut by someone who actually has enough pride in themselves, their shop and their profession to be courteous, attentive to detail, polite and professional, none of which I received at this shop. call me ,ishmael. we been getting our hair cuts here (me & the kids)@kmbrs for sometime now, i enjoy the speedy no nonsense reg. mens haircut. i get what is called a close taper. top a bit spikey, i get my haircut about every 3weeks. the price is outrageously low about $6.00 dlls & ur in & out of there be for u know it.. i like the guy by the window .he is not as fast as the other barbers but, he is very thourough.we ca'nt imagine going any where else. we love this place. damn good haircuts read more
