Large sashimi combination platter. Fresh wasabi.
    Steve C.

My wife and a friend had a great lunch experience here so she suggested we go. This week we did and will definitely return regularly. We prefer sitting at the sushi bar where we can watch each order being prepared and served. More, so we can chat with the outstanding chefs and learn about what they suggest. Highly recommend this experience for others. We first ordered the large sashimi special and will again next time. Each bite was perfectly fresh and beautifully served. As my wife correctly says, one eats with their eyes first. So accurate! Their presentation is unequaled. A chef recommended their jazz roll based on our first order. Holy cow was he right. The jazz roll is yellowtail, avocado, ahi and spicy tuna topped with sliced jalapeño and cilantro sprouts. Incredible flavor explosion in each unique bite! TIP: splurge on the fresh wasabi especially if you've never tried it! You likely won't eat the paste (although nothing wrong with it) next time. Add a dollop atop each bite, then dip it briefly in soy sauce. Great atmosphere and service, ultra clean and an all around enjoyable experience. We'll return regularly.

The roll with orange in the middle is the spicy salmon roll and the other one is the crunchy roll

The food was super good! I got sushi and the crunchy roll was a 10/10! The spicy salmon roll wasn't my favorite but I loved the flavor. And the pork pot stickers were SO SO good! The service was great! It wasn't a long wait time and our food came out quick! I loved the mood lighting in the back where we sat and the music was a vibe! It was kind of weird that we had to write down our own order but that's not too important. Overall I really enjoyed it and I will be coming back!

My friend and I came here for a lunch date to celebrate my birthday! It was our first time at Yasuo, though not our first time in this plaza, and wow, parking here is a nightmare. It's really hard to find a spot! Once we got inside, the place looked nice, clean, and open. Since it was just the two of us, we were seated at a small table. Honestly, it was tiny, but luckily we're not big eaters or it would've been a squeeze! Our waitress was super friendly and sweet. The menu had so many options, but we decided to go with their bento boxes and share an Agedashi Tofu. Each bento came with rice, miso soup, salad, an entrée, sushi, and a side. I got the Chicken Curry Katsu, California Roll, and Squid Tempura, while my friend ordered the Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, and Gyoza. Everything was delicious! The sweetest part, when our waitress found out it was my birthday, she surprised us with complimentary green tea ice cream, such a nice gesture! We'll definitely be back for dinner next time, hopefully parking's a little easier then.

Rarely do I get a date night but randomly TWICE I've been near here looking for excellent sushi near me with my date during the day. This place is fantastic. The combo plate is enough for 2 and provides cooked, u cooked and rice rolls. The quality is excellent and service is fast. This is one of my top places for sushi when in north Scottsdale area.

Thanks Yelp for the recommendation. Easy parking, clean space, nice staff, tasty food!! Great drink menu and diverse food options. Happy Hour hours are longer than usual too which is awesome. We love everything we got.

I came here Halloween and sat at the bar. The staff was very attentive and kind and sushi was amazing! The chefs even gave me a complimentary piece to try. Beautiful ambiance, I would def come back again and again.

Not that bad for the amount of food ordered...

One of the best sushi places in town! Nigiris, fried rice, rolls, rock shrimp! Great place!

This is my favorite place for lunch when I'm in the area. Their lunch specials are amazing and the sushi is always very fresh and tasty. The rice to fish ratio is excellent as well. I had 5 pieces of nigiri, 8 pieces of spicy tuna roll and miso soup for only $14. Wife chose 8 pieces of nigiri and a miso soup also for $14. The staff is very nice here too.

First time experience! Excellent. I was warmly greeted and happily seated. Wonderful sushi choices and fish from Japan!!! Yellow tail and the scallops soooo good. The interior is contemporary clean and classic. The music lively. And the chef is a true artist. Using radish And seaweed at beautiful decorations on the plate. Another insight.. all the customers were Japanese which is always a great indicator of fine quality. Thank you. I shall return.

Met up with my friend there last week. The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there around 4:30, but it was almost full by the time we left around 6ish. We ordered monkey brain, which was pretty good. We also ordered the crispy spicy tuna which was ok, and the rainbow roll which was also ok. These were all off of the HH menu. We both loved the presentation of the wasabi and sauce on the rainbow roll dish. The service was friendly, but I wasn't very impressed with the food which is why I'm giving it 4 stars.

It was my first time at this dimly lit, family owned restaurant. The occasion was for my mother's 73rd birthday and since they were church friends, we didn't hesitate. The food was exceptional, the music was , and the atmosphere was perfect. The workers were all friendly while staying busy and attentive. I was surprised at the prices once it came time to pay due to the location. 10/10 would recommend!!

Great lunch specials from 12-2. Great quality fish, great customer service, and I like this location better for food quality, than some of their sister restaurants. Oh, and they are reasonably priced for the quality in which you are getting! If you sit at the bar, it does get a bit chilly as you're sitting right under the fans, so bring something to throw on if you tend to get cold easily.

Great lunch special, with fresh tasting fish and good portions. Service was good. Definitely recommend this place among the several sushi options in the area.

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

We brought family from out of town and had a party of 11 (six adults and five kids). There was a long wait, which we completely understood. We spent the time at the bar where the service was excellent, and the kids browsed the nearby shops. Unfortunately, once we were seated, the experience went downhill. Our server seemed to have little sense of urgency. Everything took an unusually long time, but the biggest issue was the food, which took well over an hour despite being a very simple order of burgers, sandwiches, and other basic menu items. Throughout the wait, we watched tables seated after us receive their food and leave while we were still waiting. The most frustrating part was the lack of communication. Rather than checking in or providing an update, our server was frequently visible chatting with coworkers and rolling silverware. When our food finally arrived, it was at best room temperature, making it seem like it had been sitting for quite a while before being brought to the table. We asked to speak with a manager, who said she would look into it, but never returned to follow up. That lack of acknowledgment or accountability was even more disappointing than the delay itself. We declined the offer of dessert because we needed to get the kids home, yet instead of bringing the check promptly, our server spent additional time clearing the table before finally processing our payment. As someone who has worked as a server, I understand that delays happen and kitchens get backed up. What makes the difference is communication, ownership, and making guests feel like their time matters. None of that happened here. It's unfortunate because we've had good experiences in the past, but this visit left us embarrassed that we chose this restaurant to host visiting family.

The retro-vibed atmosphere of the Papago Motor Inn complements the laid back pace of your meal. This is not a sushi spot or an Izakaya. Hai Noon is a chef presenting southwestern ingredients in a most respectful, flavorful and innovative manner. I was lucky enough to return 3 times in the past month. To my surprise, ingredients and sauces did not repeat themselves, and dishes were completely distinct in flavor and presentation. This is definitely my favorite food experience of the past few years...anywhere. All of our visits were handled by our waiter/guide "Arizona", who described dishes, and when asked what his favorites were (and unlike many other places that say everything is good when it isn't), he informed us we would love everything, but he could help us with the order we ate them, and suggest a sampling if we were just picking out a half dozen dishes. He was right. Everything was captivating, surprising and...absolutely delicious. Do not miss the specials...there will be 4 or 5 on a small piece of paper, and a couple of "special" drinks. These are seasonal items the chef wants to add because of the timing and presentation. They exemplify the category...they are indeed, SPECIAL. The second visit established a pattern. Have Arizona order, until you are full. He checked in with us along the way, and made a few modifications based on our hunger level, and allowing for certain dishes to be repeated. A few things really stood out because I hadn't tasted anything quite like those dishes. Other dishes ie: variations on classic aguachile, were just better than anything I've had elsewhere. Salmon and Whitefish carpaccios were both stellar, with really good hot sesame oil adding to the dish's garlic, ginger and Yuzu base. And, when you are done with the last bite of fish, they bring out rich, grilled slices of bread to mop up that sauce. We last started with Sashimi featuring Sea Bream, that had fatty belly, and less fatty but oh-so-flavorful filet slices, and an accompanying broth. Big Eye Tuna was served on a flavorful beet puree with sweet dark cherry wine notes. Since we didn't read the menu's notes before, a quick check showed that Nobuo does create a Pinot Noir reduction that invites wiping the plate clean. The first time, the Tuna and all traces of the puree were finished by the time Arizona walked out to describe the dish for us. That's why I re-ordered it each time we visited. Soup spoons present a sashimi/ceviche/aguachile experience that is delicate, nuanced, complex and downright spectacular in your mouth. Whether it showcased an oyster, hamachi or kampachi, each spoon was an amazing taste experience with complementing flavors and textures that were completely unexpected. Softshell Crab with cold noodles was the most succulent Softshell crab I have ever enjoyed, warm, beautifully moist and flavor popping within its crispy exterior, set off by the chilled vinegar and broth accented noodles. Brussel Sprouts with a honey mustard and wasabi glaze disappeared immediately. As it turns out, wasabi is the missing ingredient in many Brussel Sprout dishes! The Yams with goat cheese and Fresno chiles reminded me of the amazing fire-grilled gourds and yam dishes I have had at Bacanora...just unique and different. Two Wash chicken was beautifully caramelized finger food that I could also have made a meal out of. We thought it was amazing, and then the chef came out and told us how inspired he was when he first met the chicken farmers and cooked with their chicken, and if possible, the chicken became even more memorable for the story and connection. Curry marinated lamb was rich, and savory, and was another dish I could make a meal out of. The Pork Belly and Mushroom rice was likewise delicious, and full or deep umami richness and delectable meat and mushroom morsels. The Mushrooms en papillote (mushrooms served in paper), had absorbed what tasted like a delicious Veal Stock, were tastily caramelized, and then steamed in the paper container. They were so good we had to have another...and we weren't skimping on food. Beverages (Alcoholic and non) get the same attention. The cocktail list sounds absolutely crazy, with improbable ingredients. But all of the ones we sampled work, and they are wonderful (sharing amongst our table, we have now tried over half of the cocktails...and so far, they are damn great drinks). The beer selection is small and ideal for the food, as are the well-chosen cold sakes that span all budgets. It is better with a small group of people so you can really explore the breadth of fabulous offerings, but I think it's also an amazing spot to share food on a date!

I booked a solo seat at the bar just two hours before dinner, which, in hindsight, should have been my first clue. The night before, my plans at Chilte had evaporated after I arrived to discover the owner was hosting a baby shower and the ceilings were being painted instead of dinner being served. I wasn't eager to go 0-for-2 on my Scottsdale food pilgrimage. Pulling into what looked more like an aging roadside motor lodge than the home of a James Beard-recognized restaurant, I wondered if Google Maps had developed a sense of humor. I parked around back, followed the sign to the dining room, and found... a locked door. Naturally. For a brief moment I thought the Arizona restaurant gods were playing another practical joke. Then I spotted another entrance simply marked "Bar." Inside, Hai Noon revealed itself as a tiny oasis. Phoenix met Tokyo somewhere in a dimly lit room with clean lines, warm wood, and mellow music humming through the speakers. Three other guests occupied the restaurant--a couple finishing dinner and what appeared to be a delightfully intimate two-person baby shower. I took my place at the bar. The server welcomed me warmly. When I admitted I was in town for work and wanted to experience the restaurant rather than order safely, he smiled and took control. A few menu staples were unavailable but he confidently selected four dishes. The grapefruit avocado hamachi spoons arrived first and immediately justified the trip. Rich, buttery fish balanced against bright citrus acidity with avocado quietly stitching everything together. It's the kind of bite that reminds you why chefs obsess over simplicity done well. The white fish carpaccio followed with a little theater. Hot sesame oil was poured tableside, barely kissing the fish into submission. Fun presentation. Beautiful execution. Though once the spectacle faded, the dish itself never quite reached the same emotional high as the hamachi. The garlic butter mushrooms arrived... in a plastic bag. It shouldn't have worked. It absolutely did. Deeply savory, unapologetically rich, and refreshingly unconcerned with appearances. The house chicken, unfortunately, couldn't keep pace. Twice fried and topped with egg salad alongside a chili vinegar, it sounded far more exciting than it tasted. Sometimes clever combinations simply refuse to become memorable food. Cocktails, however, were another story. My first choice--the Kosho--was unavailable, so I settled on the Japanese Moss, a gin cocktail topped with yuzu cold foam. The foam leaned aggressively tart but never overwhelmed the drink. Later, after finally coaxing the bartender away from his phone, he suggested an off-menu serrano-infused rum cocktail with miso. Complex, vegetal, spicy, balanced. Exactly the sort of drink you hope to discover when you stop ordering from menus. By 7 p.m., I was the only customer left. Summer in Phoenix is merciless. One hundred thirteen degrees has a way of convincing even adventurous diners to stay home. I watched two reservations cancel while chatting with the bartender and server, who explained that between May and August, three tables can qualify as a good night. Location doesn't help either. Hidden behind an unassuming hotel, Hai Noon isn't exactly benefiting from walk-in traffic. The chef emerged from the kitchen several times during service. Each time he glanced at the empty reservation book, quietly acknowledged another cancellation with a shake of his head, and disappeared back into the kitchen without speaking to anyone. There was something heartbreaking about it. Here was someone capable of creating award-winning food, still chasing perfection while circumstances far beyond the plate slowly worked against him. Hai Noon isn't flawless. Service occasionally drifted. One dish missed the mark. The room felt almost too empty. But I'd rather spend an evening in an imperfect restaurant full of ambition than a polished dining room serving food without a soul. I just hope Scottsdale's relentless summer doesn't prove too Hai for many more Noons.

We seated ourselves at a booth since it wasn't quite busy and that just means more room for our food and drinks to spread out *teehee* The cocktails were amazing my cousin ordered the espresso martini which she loved they make the espresso fresh. I went with a gin cocktail that had coconut flavors something I would never consider with gin but if you read my reviews you know gin is my preferred spirit. It was so good! For two people we ordered three types of empanadas we probably could have gotten away with two flavors and maybe a lighter tapa or desert but really wanted to try the cheese and guava empanada and didn't want that to be a main option in case we didn't like it. Needless to say we really liked all three: picadillo, arroz con pollo and guava and cheese - the picadillo was the favorite however both for the inside flavor and the accompanying dip. Pricing is not bad I'd say the serving and size of the three empanadas for $14 is a great price.

My husband had the cubano which was a big portion and he liked it. I had a sangria which was decently priced, we also got a Mojito which thought was pricy for the amount of alcohol. Would go back to try other things in the menu. They are literally next to the light rail which makes transportation very easy because parking in downtown is a nightmare. Would def go back.

Flavors…read morewere all on point and as expected from the components on the menu, which doesn't happen often in Phoenix. The Papas Verde had an addicting tang from the tomatillo salsa but were brilliantly balanced out by the chorizo and asadero cheese. The shaved brussel salad could have used a little more date and chile to balance out the vinegar but I was pleased either way. The elote was probably the only thing that fell short execution-wise as I didn't get much of the chorizo flavor, but the cook on the corn itself was perfect. The Gambas al Ajillo are absolutely a must-get. Juicy, sweet shrimp with an unexpected kick from the butter sauce and unsurprisingly great bread from Noble. The Tlayuda was a little heavy on the lettuce, but the smoked pork and bean puree combo were so flavorful that it helped balance out the richness with texture and freshness. I also loved the crispy contrast from the fried tortilla. We ended with the Concha and Mango Sticky Rice ice cream which sounded pretty simple but was quite impressive in its own right. The ice cream was a touch too frozen, but it ended up working out well with the crunchy cornflake coating and lightly warmed, pillowy concha to make a really satisfying ending to our meal. Service was excellent and the patio was well-lit and had heaters ready for colder weather. Vecina is on the pricier side for sure, but you will not be disappointed.

We ordered a bottle of wine and went to town on: White Bean Puree * Crispy Short Rib | Herb Salad | Flour Tortilla: Karaage * Aji Amarillo | Citrus Gastrique | Togarashi | Lime Elote * Chorizo Butter | Lime Creme Fraiche | Toasted Chiles Romaine * Buttermilk Dressing | Mexican Sriracha | Parmesan | Noble Bread Breadcrumbs Gambas al Ajillo * Wild Shrimp Co. Mexican Shrimp | Paprika Garlic Butter | Serrano Cruda | Garlic Noble Bread - this was the only dish that was not my favorite. SUPER flavorful but I wanted a more.. 'traditional' tapas Gambas al Ajillo flavor aka less paprika please. Saudero tacos (a brisket confit suadero tacos with a chile jam, aguacate, serrano cruda, toasted sesame, fresnos and micro cilantro) We sat on the patio for a wonderful AZ spring evening. The service was great. I also enjoyed their extensive tequila and mezcal menu. The only downside is the parking -- it's pretty small and shared with Lou Malnati's next door!

I got a mixed red and green and both sauces were delicious. We also ordered a tuna tostada as an appetizer and that was awesome. It came with a sauce that had some sort of soy sauce, and I couldn't even tell you, but it was really really good and made the whole. tostada taste amazing. My favorite part was the drinks! The bartender Diana was super friendly and had great recommendations. Great service!! I tried the coconut Mezcal drink and as a Mezcal lover, who doesn't like anything too sweet, it was perfect. In the picture is the margaritas. My girlfriend got the tamarindo margarita and it was super unique and very refreshing. Would recommend that one as well. The agua de jamaica is a must try as well!!

Our food came in pretty quick too. We had the Baja tacos and they were good. 8/10 You get 2 fried shrimp tacos and like a 1oz serving of beans, unfortunately you can't sub out for rice, you have to buy a side if you don't want beans or just wanted to substitute it -which was a bit odd as most places do that. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and super flavorful definitely worth the $28 as you can taste the quality ingredients. I love that they have a summer $8 happy hour! Makes for a nice brunch spot without breaking the bank!

My boyfriend and I have been avid fans of the show Next Level Chef, and we have had our eye on stay…read moreat the Grand Hyatt for almost the entire year we've been officially dating. For our one year anniversary, we decided this was a must for a romantic weekend at the Grand Hyatt as a staycation to try both Celebrity Chef Richard Blais' restaurants with Tiki Taka being the first one. Reservations are very easy via Open Table, and located on the first floor of the Grand Hyatt near the pools. Lots of seating outside and some seating in the inside which we chose as July can be very hot in Arizona. Our server Kyle was very friendly, knowledgeable, and even acknowledged our anniversary with complimentary sake - thank you! What We Ordered: - White Orchid: very refreshing and one of my favorite lychee martinis as I've tried a few recently! - Belvedere Vodka Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives: now this is more my style. Very delicious, and great blue cheese stuffed olives. If I returned, I'd likely stick to my usual and only do a lychee martini if I want something sweet. - No Mori: a little sweet for a Negroni, but noticed it used two sweet vermouths, so it was to be expected. My boyfriend said he would order again, but request only one vermouth. - Somakase ($75/person to order an item for each session, which was a great deal): + Spanish Octopus: A pass for me as I hate octopus, but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. Loved the spiciness of the dish, and the grill on the octopus. The mandarins added a nice sweetness, and he would definitely order again! + Tempura Vegetables: a personal pass for both of us as we didn't think they had much flavor. Love to see a shrimp tempura on the menu outside of a roll. + Hokkaido Scallop: perfectly seared and enjoyed the yuzu kosho as a great citrus to balance the flavor of the scallops. + La Gamba: a delicious roll that we both enjoyed and remarked we would order again as the shrimp tempura was delicious. We still craved a little more and ordered: - Ny Strip Skewer: a steak skewer to order with mushrooms? You can bet that I enjoyed it! Loved the pickled mushrooms to complement the flavor, though we both did not like the sauce it was paired with. I'm a firm believer if a steak is cooked well, it does not need a sauce. Even if it's a skewer. - Takoyaki: This dish was presented well, but my boyfriend wishes it had more octopus flavor. I tried a bite, which was pretty good though I'm not a fan of octopus. The batter was delicious, and I think a great dish for someone who doesn't want a fully octopus forward dish. Cheers to one year of dating and thank you for the complimentary sake to toast to our anniversary! Kanpai & Salud!
