    Vegan tater tachos
    Ashley R.

Kayak Kafe (midtown) was really good! The vegan options are plentiful and rather unique. The food is flavorful and came out quickly. We had a nice server who was new but knowledgeable and able to answer questions since it was our first time in. Vegan cauli wings were crispy and well-sauced. I got franks original sauce but tried the habanero sauce too which was awesome (i bought a bottle of that)! The vegan tater tachos were HUGE and flavorful. Walnut meat vegan tacos were unique and delicious. Would not order the tomato basil soup again or the peach vegan ice cream. The actual food deserve 5 stars. And I would definitely return. But we had a few issues/mixups originating in the kitchen that I just have to take a star off for. Our vegan tater tachos were amazing but accidentally came with no black beans. Similarly, my cauliflower wings that the menu touted would come with vegan avocado ranch came with a some white, very creamy ranch. After one bite I asked the waitress to confirm it was the vegan one and it turns out they'd given me the regular non-vegan ranch. Since vegan food and condiments are getting so advanced it would be hard for many to know that was non-veg if they hadn't focused on the fact that the vegan one was "avocado" so should be a little green. So I'd advise people to go to kayak kafe for sure, but be diligent and ask questions if anything feels off if you have dietary restrictions. And if you're a tourist, this isn't the cutest most scenic area of Savannah so I'd maybe opt for the Downtown location if you want to walk around before or after your meal. But note the downtown location doesn't have cauliflower wings!

AMAZING FRESH FOOD! I fell in love with this place! Many vegetarian options and healthy options using fresh, flavorfull ingredients. I eat meat, and found they excel in food for everyone. Midtown location has nice inside environment. We sat outside which was nice but scenery is not spectacular. ROASTED LIME CHICKEN BURRITO was remarkable. I recommend it without reservation. The cilantro cream sauce served on the side MUST be drizzeled over the burritos as it really makes the dish! Burrito comes with Black Beans, Pico de Gallo, Sliced Avocado and Melted Pepperjack. Yum! HOMEMADE HABANERO HOT SAUCE - if you like a little spice then top your roasted lime chicken burrito with this delectable sauce. Yes, habaneros are super hot, but they tamed it down while still providing nice flavor and a little heat. Mmmm. REALLY GOOD MAC 'N CHEESE - that's the official name on menu. It is really good and cheesy! They served it saying "here's your mac 'n cheese" so I had to return it to get the really good stuff. ;) Their wine and beer selection is not bad, but not remarkable. Important thing is you'll easily find something to your liking.

I ended up winning a gift card to this place from CycleBar or else I never would have known this place was here. I had no idea it was a restaurant and a bar I was expecting coffee cafe. The food was really good and the service even better! I got a Bloody Mary and a dozen wings (lemon pepper and the spicy sauce) totally would come here again!

Kayak Kafe Midtown is a fave. The menu is filled with so many options. From vegan, gluten free, classics, originals, & fun! It is family friendly as well. The restaurant is located right off of Paulsen St in a shopping complex. Their sign can be difficult to see from a far. So be on the look out for it. It is next to my favorite macaron place in Savannah, Marche de Macaron. If you see a sign with macarons at the end of the complex you've got the right place! There is a parking lot for you to park in. But if it is filled you can park on the street. The restaurant is spacious with seating inside or outdoor that is covered. A large bar when you walk in with much counter space & bar seats. They have taken COVID precautions with a scan only with your phone for their menus. And have spaced out their seating for safety. The staff are wearing masks & friendly. I've enjoyed every entree, snack, &/or drink I've had there. This was my first time at brunch. I always love bottomless mimosas! Which they have! They have another location downtown on Broughton street if the midtown location is not convenient for you. But I prefer the midtown location. Because it is spacious, & has parking. Parking matters!

I have heard great things about Kayak Kafe from several friends, and I was excited to see their new Midtown Kafe was open. I was in the area one Saturday afternoon and decided to stop in to get lunch to go. We ordered inside at the bar, then waited in the car for the food to be prepared. The Kafe is in a small strip mall with only a handful of other stores. The parking lot is relatively small, and I can picture parking being a struggle during peak hours. Maybe not! When we entered, the Kafe has modern decor and was clean. The one associate we saw wore a mask, and was seen wiping down the bar area in between customers. Lunch was ready in the promised amount of time, about 20 minutes. When we got the total bill, I was surprised to see it was $36 for two meals that were on the menu for $13.99. After reviewing the receipt and the menu again, the price added up. The GA Shrimp & Avocado Quesadilla had an up charge for seafood. My (almost) $14 quesadilla was $16! The Southern Fried Chicken Tacos were $13.99. We were also charged for a side order of tater tots that we did not order. We took them and enjoyed them anyway. The Southern Fried Chicken Tacos lived up to their name and tasted great. The GA Shrimp & Avocado Quesadilla, however, did not. It was very soggy and the avocado was a sad excuse for guacamole. There was hardly any cheese, and if there were 4 shrimps in the quesadilla that would be a lot. It was not worth the price, and I would not order it again. Because it was such an expensive lunch for simple meals, I would not go out of my way to return here. If I was in the area or a friend asked me to go, I would return. I was very underwhelmed by this experience.

Found Kayak Kafe on Yelp and decided to give it a go. The parking lot was packed which we believe is a good sign that the food is good but we may have to wait. To our surprise there were still a few open tables so we grabbed a seat. We started off our meal with a Cucumber Lemonade. It was light, tasty and very refreshing. I ordered the Turkey Cubano with Turkey Chili and my wife got the Lime Chicken Tacos. Everything was simply delicious. If I lived in Savannah then this place would be a must go to weekly. Highly recommend. Author David Moon Books on Amazon Zomosapiens Scales of Justice Pickle's Pickle

Not the easiest spot to locate, but you'll find an open, light filled, welcoming restaurant in midtown. Plenty of vegan and gluten free options here! Beware, however, this location is so sloooow for the food and drink to arrive! Our waitress blamed it on the short staffed kitchen! Unfortunately, a conversation with a friend indicated this location of Kayak Cafe is always slow! Hence, 3 stars. The wait fostered a conversation in "opportunity cost". In short, this business is losing out on revenue because of staffing issues! Tonight I enjoyed the Broughton Cobb with all that you expect and served with their homemade Spicy Ranch. Five other homemade dressings are available, too. Fresh, colorful and filling. Additionally, I ordered a cup of their Tomato Basil soup and it hit the spot on this cool evening!

Yes, and definitely yes! Tequila and tacos--how can you possibly go wrong?…read more We grabbed seats at the bar, looked over the menu, and I immediately ordered a tequila soda with jalapeños. If you enjoy a little spice in your cocktail, I highly recommend it. Since we were only in town for one night, we planned on hopping around downtown and trying several different places, so we kept it simple and ordered three tacos to share. There were quite a few tempting options on the menu, and every taco we tried was delicious. Looking back, we honestly should have just stayed here all night eating tacos and drinking tequila because none of the other places we visited afterward lived up to this experience. The atmosphere was bright, lively, and fun, with a great location right on the boardwalk. Between the food, drinks, and overall vibe, this ended up being one of our favorite stops of the trip. We'll absolutely be returning the next time we're in town. After experiencing some of the other disappointing spots downtown, this place made us realize we probably didn't need to go anywhere else.

Margaritas were tasty with lots of flavors to choose from. We tried the chips and dip trio. Guacamole was amazing and so was the queso. The salsa we had was okay but would probably choose something different next time we visit. Everyone loved their tacos with everyone having a taste of something different. We finished it off with churros which were just as great as the ones in Disney! Our waiter was very friendly and had good recommendations for tacos to try! It wasn't too busy when we first got there but picked up as the night went on! I recommend for a solid girls night or anyone wanting some great margaritas and tacos!

My Cozy Go-To for Date Night Vibes…read more I love this place so much, it has officially earned a permanent spot on our date night rotation. Órale Tacos + Tequila has everything I want in a restaurant: comfort, good food, and people who make you feel like you're right at home. My husband and I are hooked on their American-style quesadillas--mine with shrimp, his with chicken--and let me just say, the portions are generous and they somehow taste even better the next day! Moffie (I hope I'm spelling her name right) is usually our server and she is just the sweetest soul. Always smiling, always kind, and just a pleasure to see. But then... there's JAZMINE. I don't know where she learned how to make an Old Fashioned, but I never want it made by anyone else again. Her hands are blessed. Seriously, I get happy when I walk in and see her behind the bar. The very first time we came, she was experimenting with a jalapeño drink and asked if I wanted to try it--it was FABULOUS. Since then, she's just had that "it" factor. Warm, creative, and magnetic. One time we came in and she wasn't working, and I genuinely felt a little sad! But the time before that, we hugged as soon as we saw each other. That says everything. This place has heart. From the food to the cocktails to the people who make the experience so special, Órale is more than just a restaurant--it's a vibe. A cozy, joyful, delicious vibe. Can't wait for our next visit!

I asked them to add Refried beans and ordered more sour cream and guacamole on the side. The beans were on the bottom while I was told they would be on top - a little hard to spot and taste. We went around 8:30 PM EST and it wasn't busy. We were seated right away and the servers where attentive. Music was playing and it wasn't too loud. It was low enough to still have a conversation. My mother only ordered one taco with guacamole on the side. I found the food flavorful. So much so, I took my cousins back the next evening after a ghost city haunted pub crawl for late bites. Even though there is a completely different menu for late evening, everyone (group of seven) said they enjoyed what they ordered (various dips and tacos). Perfect for drunken cravings! We were also seated immediately during this late night visit. I would definitely return if I find myself in the area again.

Treylor Park was probably exactly what we needed at 11:30 at night…read more It's somewhere between a diner and a sports bar, but the decor is what makes it. The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. It was a vibe, the food was good, and it did exactly what it needed to do.
